[Bug 609651] Re: compile OpenLDAP with OpenSSL
Is there some rationale behind this request? What do you need from OpenSSL that GNUTLS doesn't provide, in this case? [Bug 609593] Re: Lots of problems with new Firefox
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. We needed to upgrade since Firefox 3.0 had reached end of life and it was not feasible to Backport security patches. There was some regression testing. In fact, we requested help from the community to test, but with the number of updates, we could not have anticipated every contingency. Let's address your issues: 1. There were some reports of crashes in Firefox 3.6.7 which prompted Mozilla to quickly release Firefox 3.6.8. This should be released to Ubuntu on Monday. If you'd like to get it sooner, you can try it from the Ubuntu Mozilla Security PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-security/+archive/ppa . If this doesn't stop your crashes, please file another bug report and we'll try to figure out what is crashing. 2. I'm sorry that the tabs show up even if there is one. This was already introduced in Firefox 3.5. I believe that there is a request already for this and I will use this bug as your request for this feature. I'm not sure as this qualifies as a regression, but rather an unexpected feature change. 3. Please file a separate bug report for each page that's broken unless they are showing the same symptoms in which case, just list them all as examples in a single bug. In general, it's best to file one bug per issue. ** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Description changed: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Actually several of those existing bug reports are probably the same, but at this point I don't care enough about Firefox to worry about it. - I'm only writing this because the new bugs are just SO fucked up and + I'm only writing this because the new bugs are just SO upsetting and they AGAIN clearly show the need for some competent regression testing over there. My real attitude is that I'm just waiting for a better alternative--but maybe I'll be forced back to Microsoft's garbage. #1 problem: Now Firefox crashes and closes all of its windows at random intervals. The restore when restarted usually works pretty well. #2 problem: Tabs visible even when there is only one tab. Annoying waste of screen space--but it used to be an actual advantage for the Ubuntu/Linux version of Firefox over Windows. #3 problem: Probably the broken webpages, but there are so many problems now that I can't really say. Suggested REAL solution. A better economic model that insures adequate regression testing. Whatever you have now, it is NOT working well. I don't really care what you do anymore, but here is one suggestion: http://eco-epistemology.blogspot.com/2009/11/economics-of-small-donors- reverse.html At this point Ubuntu is so bad that I am only using it on inertia (and on the two main machines I'm basically forced to use the old less flaky versions, though I am running the newest version on three other machines for experimental purposes--that continually fail). I hope some viable alternative will appear, but I have no more enthusiasm for Ubuntu. I knew quite a number of Ubuntu enthusiasts, but as far as I know, the best case is that some of them are still trying to defend it. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
It's funny how Ubuntu got big by laying emphasis on the community and now you are doing things like this one here. The movement of the window buttons is just one of many reasons I'm currently wiping out all Ubuntus and replacing them with Debian Squeeze (which is, even if it is testing, much more stable, does regard the GNOME standard, doesn't have ads, IS a democracy, plus the devs don't customize the UI to death). On a laptop of a friend where Jaunty was installed she was prompted to upgrade to Lucid. I was surprised to hear that. A dist upgrade can break the system: why are you prompting users to do it??? Anyway... she clicked through, the upgrade was rolling. Sure enough afterward the system was broken and I had to fix it up. Lucid had multiple annoying bugs on that laptop too. I took the /home partition over to Squeeze. Went really smooth. One Ubuntu less. I also don't recommend Ubuntu to other people anymore. I try to hook them up with Debian for their own good as I can somewhat foresee that this is just the beginning of more unpleasant decisions. [Bug 444950] Re: sound stops working with pulseaudio
I'm also experiencing these problems, not sure exactly when they started. With Lucid the symptoms seem to have improved, but i still get stutters from time to time. I'm running the following: Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer Device 0721 2.6.32-24-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 At first i thougth there was an IRQ-conflict, but the soundcard IRQ is not shared with any other device. One of the latest kernel upgrades seems to have improved things a bit over the inital Lucid release, it's still there but occurs less often. On a side note i sometimes get slight freezes where the system becomes unresponsive for a short time. Usually i can unfreeze it by moving the mouse or pressing a key. This is why i first suspected an irq-problem, since the input would trigger an interrupt. Just curious if anyone else suffering from the stuttering sound issues have similar freezes or if they are totaly unrelated. It's still a little eraly to tell if the latest kernel upgrade (i did it yesterday) removes the freezes, sound issues are still there. -- sound stops working with pulseaudio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 368129] Re: Wifi troubles after upgrade to Jaunty on Asus X80L (chip Atheros AR928X)
Hi, Fabio! I can say that next Ubuntu (9.10) worked better, there was not enormose packet loss (70/30 as written before). But several times a day it lost the network and only reboot could help. Unfortunately now I cannot check because I'm using another laptop. Thank you. 2010/7/23 Fabio Marconi marconifa...@hotmail.it Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 609683] Re: adblock plus on, certain web pages show incorrect characters in spanish
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Does this occur with all other extensions disabled except for Ad Block Plus? You could try this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one. You can start the profile manager with the following command with Firefox closed: firefox -ProfileManager ** Changed in: firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- adblock plus on, certain web pages show incorrect characters in spanish https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/609683 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
