[Bug 400236] Re: Mercurial conflicts with python (jaunty sparc at least)

2011-01-30 Thread Stefano Rivera
Hi, I'm afraid that Jaunty has reached the end of its life, and is no
longer supported. See the supported releases list
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Additionally, the version of mercurial you confirmed this with wasn't
the final version published in jaunty, nor is mipsel an Ubuntu
architecture.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mercurial/+publishinghistory

I'm marking this bug as incomplete. If it isn't a bug on a supported
Ubuntu release, there is little we can do to help.

2011-01-30 Thread David Henningsson
BIOS has - likely incorrectly - stated that you only have one line-out
jack. Here's what BIOS says you have:

Pin Default 0x01214410: [Jack] HP Out at Ext Rear
Pin Default 0x99130120: [Fixed] Speaker at Int ATAPI
Pin Default 0x01012050: [Jack] Line Out at Ext Rear
Pin Default 0x01a19860: [Jack] Mic at Ext Rear
Pin Default 0x99a30961: [Fixed] Mic at Int ATAPI
Pin Default 0x0181306f: [Jack] Line In at Ext Rear
Pin Default 0x99130130: [Fixed] Speaker at Int ATAPI
Pin Default 0x01454140: [Jack] SPDIF Out at Ext Rear

We need to figure out what you really have and to where they are
connected.

[Bug 705633] Re: [Realtek ALC889] Horrible Sound distortion

2011-01-30 Thread David Henningsson
As for taking speakers as input - that functionality is disabled since
the speaker node is set as "OUT" instead of "IN". It is not uncommon for
physical pins on the chip to have both input and output functionality.
BIOS sets that correctly (well, in most cases) at boot to make it fit
the physical wiring on your computer.

2011-01-30 Thread David Henningsson
@henritonchain, great that you found a solution. Can you please do the
following:
1) I'm assuming you still have
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules installed
2) Shut down and start up your computer, so the noise comes up.
3) Take an alsa-info https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo
4) Start hda_analyzer and change the minimum number of things you need to
change to make the noise go away - and still have complete functionality, of
course. (If possible, try to make sure stuff as Mic Playback is still working.)
5) Take a new alsa-info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo

I'll see if I can see what you change, and then try to change the same
thing at bootup automatically.

[Bug 710515] [NEW] USB mass storage not automatically mounted

2011-01-30 Thread jeremy-list
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This appears to be the case for every USB drive without exception and
regardless of format. The drive will appear in Disk Utility and can be mounted
from there or from the command line, but it is not mounted automatically and
doesn't show up in the "Places" menu or the nautilus sidebar until I've mounted
it.
I'm filing this under nautilus because udisks is definitely detecting the USB
drive when it's plugged in but nautilus isn't getting the signal

I'm unsure what release of Ubuntu to say I'm using: just used the update
utility to upgrade to maverick, all my apt sources say maverick, "apt-
get update" and "apt-get upgrade" say I'm up to date but "lsb_release
-rd" says I'm still on lucid

[Bug 599255] Re: dmraid fails to read promise RAID sector count larger than 32-bits

2011-01-30 Thread Danny Wood
Unfortunately no I didn't. I don't have the actual promise hardware and so
debugging this issue was very hard.
Nishihama Kenkowo helped me a lot but I never completed the work. Debugging
hardware is much easier when it is sat infront of you.

I think I was close but I decided to give up as I couldn't test what I
had done.

I will have a look through that documentation, if it is what I read
before then it is most likely just from the bios point of view and
nothing to do with the metadata, I was planning on buying an SB7xx
motherboard but didn't find the time.

[Bug 707392] Re: Not possible to upgrade untrusted packages

2011-01-30 Thread RedSingularity
I can confirm this on my machine. 10.10 32bit Fresh install. Seems to
be a regression because there is no problem in a 10.04 32bit fresh
install. In 10.04 update-manager asks if you would like to continue and
then does so accordingly. Marking and updating description.

As part of my list of updates this morning I had one from a third party

  signed.

When I selected OK to upgrade all of them, I got a message box "Requires
installation of untrusted packages" (The action would require the
installation of packages from unauthenticated sources.). The only option
is 'Close' and there is no indication of what to do to authorise this!
It prevented me upgrading the other packages too, until I'd unchecked

[Bug 581566] Re: udevd inotify_add_watch no such directory error for physical volumes

2011-01-30 Thread Danny Wood
@bash.vi

The reason that dmraid will halt your system from booting is that the raid
metadata will still be in your disks.
To stop dmraid from recognising your disks as a raid you have to purge this
data from your disks.

Dmraid can only identify disks as in a raid set by this metadata.

I get these udevd error every-time I boot but it doesn't seem to effect
my raid which has been running perfectly on 10.04, haven't tried 10.10
yet. The dm-xx nodes aren't even associated with dmraid so this bug is
irrelevant from dmraid anyway.

The installer in 10.04 would leave you with a broken install if you let
it do the partitioning, I manually create my partition using gparted
then install using ubiquity. I'm not sure if ubiquity is fixed yet or
not as I have fallen behind in my Ubuntu testing.

It should be painted below. This is a bug and I will look into it when

[Bug 685682] Re: [fglrx] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::IOpenGLSurface::UnlockRect()

2011-01-30 Thread Jay Taoko
I have noticed that the crash happens in IOpenGLSurface::UnlockRect because of
a call to glBindBufferARB. I am able to go past these errors but only to fall
into more errors laters.
I Also noticed that Unity starts in indirect mode and the version of OpenGL
that is use is 1.4. This is the version of OpenGL that is supported by X in
indirect mode. We are currently working on a way to improve the situation.

[Bug 709264] Re: Unity freezes when launched with places installed

2011-01-30 Thread Sam "SmSpillaz" Spilsbury
Interesting - I've been hitting something similar to this while messing
around with the startup order of compiz trying to get the glib mainloop
to start before anything else g* starts. Could people who are having
this problem do the following?

1. Drop to a VT
2. pidof compiz #note the number that it spits out
3. sudo gdb #needed to attach to arbitrary applications
4. attach the_number
5. set logging-file ~/glib-bug.txt
6. bt
7. bt full
8. exit

And then post the resulting glib-bug.txt in their home dir? That would
be fantastic.

Also, Unity Team members - please assign yourself if this bug is related
to you.

This patch does not appear to have gone into the natty kernel. As a

Is there a plan to get this into the mainline or linux-linaro-natty.git

[Bug 710004] Re: package wine1.2 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/wine-preloader', which is also in package wine 0:1.1.42~winehq1-1

2011-01-30 Thread Scott Ritchie
Were you doing a full upgrade or just one of the wine1.2 package? The
wine package should have been upgraded as well, which prevents this.

Try running update manager directly or doing sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

[Bug 710148] Re: The list of languages does not show some available languages consistently

2011-01-30 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your early feedback!

language-selector scans the /usr/share/locale-langpack and
/usr/share/locale directories. If all Spanish translations reside under
'es', language-selector shows the country independent "Spanish" item
only. If country specific Spanish translations are available (i.e.
'es_XX' directories exist), the country independent "Spanish" item is
_not_ shown. The issue reported in bug 700213 is the reason for 'hiding'
the "Spanish" item in the latter case.

Does that possibly explain the behavior you describe, David?

Another thing is whether the design logic makes sense. I think I took
for granted that in cases when country specific translations are
available, the main dialect ('es_ES' in this case) is one of them.
Apparently that assumption was a mistake.

To solve this bug, I think that the code should be modified, so that in
cases when country specific items are shown, the main dialect ('es_ES'
in this case) shall always be included, irrespective of whether there
are any translations under 'es_ES'.

[Bug 709855] Re: Use shorter and more concise text for the "Format preferences for dates etc" tab label

How about simply merging them into "Regional Formats"? :-) Neither
"preferences", "settings" nor "options" makes the label more descriptive
anyway.

I checked out Windows, and they have a window with the title "Regional
and Language Options". The tab underneath (screenshot attached), that is
most like the second tab in language-selector, is labeled "Formats". I
also noticed this page:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-can-I-do-with-regional-formats-and-languages

To me, "Regional Formats" would not be a compromise. I think it would be
better than my previous suggestions.

[Bug 710308] Re: desktop hangs on startup with Unity 3d

2011-01-30 Thread Stephen Cradock
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 709264 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709264

Mark seems to be right - it is apparently the same bug as #709264. Same
symptoms, appeared at the same time.

As with 709264, removing unity-place-files and unity-place-applications
(neither of which seems to do anything at the moment) cures the
symptoms.

Marking as a dup of #709264.

[Bug 681495] Re: Suggests installing a package that is already installed

2011-01-30 Thread Peter Husen
Well ok, I guess it is not that bad in this case, since it does not
suggest installing it. It could note somewhere on the suggestion line
that it is actually installed, though, while picking up that habit of
checking this status anyway.

[Bug 710368] Re: /bin/date --date='next month' is wrong

2011-01-30 Thread Josh Kupershmidt
It does seem counterintuitive, but this behavior appears to be by-design. See
here for a similar issue:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=301972

Feb. 30th is an invalid date which `date` doesn't want to return, which
is why it's bumping the result into March.

[Bug 660003] Re: Did not proper start gnome keyring

2011-01-30 Thread EricDHH
The problem is the missing interaction between 3 parts, so you have to
do a logon triathlon.

1. you have to logon at lxdm
2. you have to logon at modemmanager
3. you have to logon at gnome keyring with same password as 1

Should be

1. logon at lxdm, this opens gnome keyring and this opens modemmanager

I installed pam keyring libs after that, but something is missing in the
base config after all.

And I just checked gbrainy 1.51 on Ubuntu 10.10, to confirm that this
was a bug that has since been fixed. The OP was right about this being
formerly incorrect, see screenshot of incorrect answer from gbrainy
1.51.

Looks like this bug was reported here:

and fixed in git revision 738cd3370e5dd6d71ca04be0073e27c05a78920f on
