I tried with your params, but can't reproduce it.
You may try to get a backtrace (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace) or run with
--memory-debug (see doc/INSTALL) to further track down the problem.

[Bug 949685] Re: When running processes a process regularly gets stuck and does not complete

2012-03-07 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
I modified the script a bit so that it's easier to reproduce the problem.
Now I can always reproduce it, sometimes on the first few loops, sometimes on
the 150th process spawned.

May I also note that there seems to be another bug in twisted which
makes gtk/reactor programs hang on exit, so Ctrl+\ is needed to
terminate the script. That doesn't happen on Debian testing with the
same python-twisted-core version, so maybe the problem is in
debian/patches/00_gi_gtk3reactor.patch.

Glyph responded and suspected this may be a bug in Twisted, possibly an
  issue with GTK or glib.

I also noted seeing the following fragment of discussion in #twisted:

jono: I've seen issues with processes using gtk3, but not glib2
itamar: it happens with glib2reactor as well as gireactor, at least.
i think new glib might have changed something which doesn't interact well with
the signal handler bits of the twisted reactor :(
dobey: tm.tl/5512 has a patch that makes *one* problem better
- I can think of another thing that might solve signal issues
+  I can think of another thing that might solve signal issues
if this is a 12.04-only issues it's very hard for me to test,
though, since I'm still on 11.10
itamar: well, it's just twisted 11.1.0 with the patch to added
gireactor. so the same problems should happen with twisted trunk. though it may
be due to changes in newer glib, which is not on ubuntu 11.10 anyway

Later Itamar emailed me linking me to
http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/5512 as something to try. I have
never built Twisted before, and I am not sure if this will solve the
  issue.

[Bug 822128] Re: Atheros Bluetooth AR3011 not working {AMD64}

2012-03-07 Thread Anthony Wong
An updated firmware has recently been posted upstream (ath3k-1.fw) which
we have had a preliminary look at and appears to correct the issues here
specific to AR3011:

http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1262485

May I ask you who currently have AR3011 to give it a test, by putting
the attached ath3k-1.fw firmware file in /lib/firmware. Remember to
first remove the ar3011 dkms if you have installed it before testing.

Thanks!

[Bug 949685] Re: When running processes a process regularly gets stuck and does not complete

2012-03-07 Thread Jono Bacon
Sorry, just a quick note...the attached Python program that demonstrates
the issue is passed five test Python files (test1.py, test2.py etc). You
will need to create these. For mine I just added the following in each
file:

#!/usr/bin/python

a = 1
b = 2
total = a + b

I just changed the values of a and b in each test script for variation.

[Bug 844044] Re: Unity Greeter - Add Network Login option

2012-03-07 Thread Thomas Bushnell, BSG
Robert, I think that will be very great for our case. I agree completely
that it is not plausible to distinguish a "network" account. For our
part, we are not concerned so much with the labeling, and whatever looks
good to the designers is fine with us. I'm very pleased that this change
will let us have a user list *and* a generic login box at the same time,
and I think our users will be very happy with it. Thanks!

[Bug 922976] oops on the wired connection

2012-03-07 Thread gene
Turned off wireless by rmmodding the ath5k module. It soon resulted in another
kernel oops without a system freeze. X server did crash though.
Linux 2.6.38-13-generic #56-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 14 12:40:40 UTC 2012 i686 i686
i386 GNU/Linux

Now I see a this line in the oops message:
last sysfs file:
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:14.4/:09:02.0/net/eth1/statistics/collisions

Not sure if it may give a clue, found this
http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/patch-sysfs-remove-last-sysfs-file-line-oops-messages-help-203317852.html
It talks about a patch to turn off his message in the 3* versions, because the
"last fs file" is irrelevant. So is it irrelevant?
The oops message is attached anyways

[Bug 776264] Re: FFe: Please merge cryptsetup 2:1.4.1-2 (main) from debian unstable (main)

2012-03-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package cryptsetup - 2:1.4.1-2ubuntu1

---
cryptsetup (2:1.4.1-2ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low

  [ Jean-Louis Dupond ]
  * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #776264), remaining changes:
- debian/cryptdisks.functions: Suppress "Starting init crypto disks" message
in "init" phase, to avoid writing over fsck progress text.
- debian/cryptroot-hook: Quiet warnings from find on arches that
don't have all the kernel/{arch,crypto} bits we're testing for.
- debian/control:
+ Bump initramfs-tools Suggests to Depends: so system is not
potentially rendered unbootable.
  + Depend on plymouth.
- Add debian/cryptdisks-{enable,udev}.upstart.
- debian/cryptdisks.functions:
+ new function, crypttab_start_one_disk, to look for the named source
device in /etc/crypttab (by device name, UUID, or label) and start it
if configured to do so
- debian/cryptdisks{,-early}.init: Make the 'start' action of the init
  script a no-op, this should be handled entirely by the upstart job;
and fix the LSB header to not declare this should be started in
  runlevel 'S'
- debian/rules:
+ Do not install start symlinks for init scripts, and
install debian/cryptdisks-{enable,udev}.upstart scripts.

  [ Steve Langasek ]
  * debian/cryptdisks.functions: handle the case where crypttab contains a
name for the source device that is not the kernel's preferred name for
it (as is the case for LVs).

cryptsetup (2:1.4.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * acknowledge NMU. Thanks to Michael Biebl. (closes: #659182)
  * don't print error for non-encrypted rootfs in initramfs cryptroot hook.
Thanks to Jamie Heilman and Christoph Anton Mitterer for bugreports.
(closes: #659087, #659106)
  * use dmsetup splitname to extract VG name from $node in initramfs cryptroot
hook. Thanks to Kai Weber for the bugreport, Milan Broz and Claudio
Imbrenda for suggestions and patches. (closes: #659235)

cryptsetup (2:1.4.1-1.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix dangling .so symlink. Don't hard code the library version but use
readlink instead to determine where the .so symlink should point at.
(closes: #659182)

cryptsetup (2:1.4.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * new upstream release (1.4.0 + 1.4.1) (closes: #647851)
- fixes typo in german translation. (closes: #645528)
- remove patches, all incorporated upstream.
- soname bump, rename library package to libcryptsetup4
  * check for busybox in initramfs cryptroot hook, and install the sed binary
in case it's either not installed or not activated. (closes: #591853)
  * add checks for 'type $KEYSCRIPT' to initscripts cryptdisks.functions, and
to cryptroot initramfs script/hook. this adds support for keyscripts inside
$PATH. thanks to Ian Jackson for the suggestion. (closes: #597583)
  * use argument '--sysinit' for vgchange in cryptroot initramfs script. Thanks
to Christoph Anton Mitterer for the suggestion.
  * add option for discard/trim features to crypttab and initramfs scripts.
Thanks to intrigeri and Peter Colberg for patches. (closes: #648868)
  * print $target on error in initramfs hook. Thanks to Daniel Hahler for the
bugreport. (closes: #648192)
  * add a warning about using decrypt_derived keyscript for devices with
persistent data. Thanks to Arno Wagner for pointing this out.
  * remove quotes from resume device candidates at get_resume_devs() in
initramfs hook script. Thanks to Johannes Rohr. (closes: #634017)
  * support custom $TABFILE, thanks to Douglas Huff. (closes: #638317)
  * fix get_lvm_deps() in initramfs cryptroot hook to add all physical volumes
of lvm volume group that contains the rootfs logical volume, even if the
rootfs is lv is not spread over all physical volumes. Thanks to Christian
Pernegger for bugreport and patch. (closes: #634109)
  * debian/initramfs/cryptroot-script: Move check for maximum number of tries

[Bug 844044] Re: Unity Greeter - Add Network Login option

2012-03-07 Thread Robert Ancell
I've added a "greeter-show-manual-login" option to lightdm 1.1.7 so a
system administrator can indicate to the the greeter that it should
always show a manual username option. In the branch lp:~robert-ancell
/unity-greeter/bug-844044 I've proposed support for this in Unity
Greeter which would have the default install show as in the screenshot
below.

However, this does not solve this request of this bug. The request is to add a
specific "Network" option. There are two issues with this currently:
a) We cannot tell what the system administrator has configured PAM to do, thus
we cannot detect if this machine can or cannot access network accounts.
b) We cannot restrict this "Network" entry to only network accounts (*). So
the naming is confusing.

(*) techincally not true as we could make a special PAM service that
only allowed network logins, however I don't think this is really what
this bug is requesting.

[Bug 844044] Re: Unity Greeter - Add Network Login option

2012-03-07 Thread Robert Ancell
Thomas,

"We want a user list *and* we want the ability to enter a user-name by
hand" - could you define who "we" are and some use-cases where you have
a list of users and and also other accounts not in the list but useful
to log in as?

LightDM (and by extension Unity Greeter) assumes if the OS provides a
list of user accounts (via getpwent()) then that provides all the
possible accounts available on that system. From the getpwent manual
page:

"The getpwent() function returns a pointer to a structure containing the
broken-out fields of a record from the password database (e.g., the
local password file /etc/passwd, NIS, and LDAP)"

The "greeter-hide-users" option in lightdm.conf requests that the
greeter hide the list of users (even if it is provided by the OS) and
instead show a manual entry. The emphasis is not on showing the manual
entry, that is merely what the greeter does if there appears to be no
users on the system (bug 919298 fixed this). It's not a "show user-name
entry" option.

[Bug 949689] [NEW] Wput ends with buffer overflow when rate-limited

2012-03-07 Thread Ben Coleman
Public bug reported:

This started up when I upgraded to Oneiric.

I'm fairly consistently finding that when using wput with --binary and
--limit-rate for an ftp upload, the upload ends with a buffer overflow.

A sample recent run (host, username, and password obscured):

oloryn@fornost:~$ wput --binary --limit-rate=5K svnback2012-03-07.zip ftp://user
name:passw...@hostname.benshome.net/svnback2012-03-07.zip

In Unity 2D, Alt-tab still does not work, even after my last update. It
only displays the window controls of the active window.

[Bug 949685] [NEW] When running processes a process regularly gets stuck and does not complete

2012-03-07 Thread Jono Bacon
Public bug reported:

Today I asked a question (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9610417
/twisted-process-execution-issues) on StackOverflow about an issue I
have been having running a series of processes one after the other. I
have been having these problems in my Ubuntu Accomplishments
(https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntu-accomplishments-system) code but I
wrote a dedicated Python program to test this and posted it to the
StackOverflow question (the script is attached to this bug). The script
basically runs five very simple Python scripts one after the other, but
in almost all cases the scripts are never all run successfully...it
gets to a script and then just gets stuck. You can see a more detailed
description of the issue at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9610417
/twisted-process-execution-issues

Glyph responded and suspected this may be a bug in Twisted, possibly an
issue with GTK or glib.

I also noted seeing the following fragment of discussion in #twisted:

jono: I've seen issues with processes using gtk3, but not glib2
itamar: it happens with glib2reactor as well as gireactor, at least. i
think new glib might have changed something which doesn't interact well with
the signal handler bits of the twisted reactor :(
dobey: tm.tl/5512 has a patch that makes *one* problem better
I can think of another thing that might solve signal issues
if this is a 12.04-only issues it's very hard for me to test, though,
since I'm still on 11.10
itamar: well, it's just twisted 11.1.0 with the patch to added
gireactor. so the same problems should happen with twisted trunk. though it may
be due to changes in newer glib, which is not on ubuntu 11.10 anyway

Later Itamar emailed me linking me to
http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/5512 as something to try. I have
never built Twisted before, and I am not sure if this will solve the
issue.

[Bug 949424] Re: [UIFe] String and feature changes in new Rhythmbox

Launchpad Bug Tracker [2012-03-07 21:47 -]:

Sounds fine.

> - Allow plug-ins to specify they should be enabled by default
(regression already approved in bug #934235)

That sounds very welcome indeed, and I count this as a bug fix
actually.

> - Porting of more plug-ins and example scripts to PyGI/GIO/GDBus

Sounds fine, as they currently would not even run with pygtk, so again
bug fixes.

> Strings:
>
> "LIRC" instead of "LIRC " (This can be updated with a simple
> search/replace.)

Approved. It's a proper noun and acronym anyway, so I doubt it even
should be translated.

Approved.

FF wise I'm ok with this, but this should be coordinated with Debian.
This is quite an invasive packaging change, and we don't want to
carry it forever.

If you already have a script that chooses the best 'su' command, why not
using it in the desktop file, then? That would be better than having a

[Bug 931621] Re: update-manager fail upgrade to 12.04

2012-03-07 Thread RedSingularity

comments here.
