Orca version 3.4.1 is working very well for me. My only issue is that
speech is sometimes lost when using Skype. I'm not sure if this is an
Orca bug, or if the issue is being caused by the Voxin speech engine. I
will test with Espeak and report back.

Thanks,

[Bug 950713] Re: Brother printer fails to print anything but a blank page

2012-05-01 Thread Jochen Fahrner
Michael, if I understand you right you have some other issue, some kind
of pdf's are not properly handled. What is discussed here is the broken
postscript code that makes Brother printers to fail completely. Did I
understand you right?

I installed the release version of Xubuntu 12.04 and printing on my
Brother DCP-7045N is working fine.

Before I was testing Linux Mint Debian Edition (which is based on Debian
testing) and had the problem which is described here. What I must say
here: the Ubuntu developers are making a good job! The printer
installation procedure is much easier than under native Debian. My
Brother network printer was completely automatically recognized, even
manufacturer and model was detected automatically. Under Debian I had to
select manufacturer and model manually.

[Bug 993056] [NEW] gnome-control-center: Privacy>Diagnostics, Hook does not remain active after activation

2012-05-01 Thread Benjamin
Private bug reported:

If I active the hook in "send error reports to Canonical" and then close
the windows and later open, the hook is not set.

And I can't at the moment send any crash reports to launchpad if a
programm crashed... apport-gkt opens but if I clicked Continue then
nothing happens. Firefox does not open. Nothing happens also If I try
"ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_pam_fprint_enroll.1000.crash" Same
result.

[Bug 690308] Re: bamf doesn't return the .desktop of all apps (emacs)

2012-05-01 Thread Schwarzburg
This bug is still active in 11.10 (0.2.104-0ubuntu1.2). GNU Emacs
23.3.1

Emacs is not correctly recognized:

when launching e.g. from the commandline with "emacs" the output of the
above pasted program is:

** (process:15397): DEBUG: current file
** (process:15397): DEBUG: emacs@schwarz-UL30A

However, a launcher entry is created which works (focus, arrows, etc).

BUT, when launching from the dash or from the command line with the full
path "/usr/bin/emacs23", the output is this:

** (process:15734): DEBUG: current file /usr/share/applications/emacs23.desktop
** (process:15734): DEBUG: GNU Emacs 23

BUT: no launcher entry is created!

[Bug 993051] [NEW] totem sound cuts out predictably on repeat

2012-05-01 Thread Gregory Gauthier
Public bug reported:

Expected behavior: When totem is set to repeat indefinitely, the file
should play continuously until a new file is opened in totem or totem is
closed or paused. (This is the behavior in Oneiric.)

Actual behavior (Precise): The audio file plays normally on the first
playthrough. On the second playthrough, the sound cuts out at 12
seconds in. (To test, I used elf-land.ogg and legends_of_the_north.ogg
from wesnoth). The audio file appears to continue playing, but no sound
eminates. If you pause, the song jumps to the end. If you unpause at
this point, the song appears to jump back to the point at which it was
stopped, but there is still no audio output. If you seek at this point,
the song cuts out 12 seconds after the point at which playback was
started (so if you start at 0:28, the music will cut out at 0:40). I
have also observed the sound restarting for no reason.

I also receive the following error message in console:

(totem:4869): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: Read/writable property 'object'
on class 'ZeitgeistDpPlugin' has type 'TotemObject' which is not exactly
equal to the type 'GObject' of the property on the interface
'PeasActivatable'

This appears to be confined to totem. Running mplayer -loop 0
does not create any discernable playback problems, including
the issue described above.

[Bug 951143] Re: [Asus eeepc 1225B] Suspend and hibernate not working

2012-05-01 Thread b3nn0
I was now able to solve the problem with a script I found on askubuntu
and the kernel bugzilla. So at least the r252b can be made working
completely.

In order to fix the suspend problem:
do the steps described here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/53372/suspend-hibernate-doesnt-work-on-an-asus-laptop

If you also have the problem that the computer doesn't shut down, but always
reboots if you hit the shutdown button, but this command in your /etc/rc.local
(the r252b has this. not sure about the 1225B although they are almost equal):
echo "LID" > /proc/acpi/wakeup
right before the "exit 0".

[Bug 989793] Re: blank screen on startup

2012-05-01 Thread Steve Langasek
The apport information shows the following kernel commandline:

  BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-24-generic-pae
root=UUID=24932d57-f79e-4449-9703-4f6f382e1412 ro quiet

Did you forget to readd the 'splash' option? That may explain why it's
consistent. It also means that if there are any kernel errors related
to trying to load the splash screen, they won't be shown in the
attachments.

I do see this in the attached dmesg:

[ 207.726053] [drm] nouveau :03:00.0: error fencing pushbuf: -16
[ 207.840664] [drm] nouveau :03:00.0: cal_space: -16

But I'm assuming your machine doesn't actually take 200 seconds to boot?

[Bug 991106] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 bootloader installation problem on RAID

2012-05-01 Thread Tim
Hello Phillip.
Ok, I'll try it again and will report here as soon as I'll get access to that
PC, but it seems to me that my bug has a lot of similarities with this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/973147 (found it today)
Maybe my bug is duplicate of 973147. Last one is still unassigned, so I think
it is not resolved yet. Since beta 2.
Anyway this time I'll make screenshots of essential points of installation
process. If some additional information is required, please tell me what should
I perform during the installation process. I'll try to repeat the whole process
this week.
Thanks.

[Bug 993046] [NEW] icplus ip100a eth not works with network-manager

Public bug reported:

After install Ubuntu (also tried kubuntu), my ethernet card does not work. I
searched and find this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1952883&highlight=ip100a

I did remove network-manager, did "dhclient eth0" and connected to
network. After that, I installed wicd. Now I can use my eth card. Does
Ubuntu not support old eth cards ?

The second command was a desperate attempt to install the gpg key
directly. The last command shows which packages are explicitly
installed. My gut tells me there is a package missing in a normal
pbuilder installation for this to work.

[Bug 983884] Re: wrong help text

2012-05-01 Thread petroo
Just an addition to my reports so far:

Christopher indicated a potential error with respect to the German
translation. I assume he pointed to the help text translations, which
would not be the crucial point though: From his comment I would expect
the "RADIANS" to be a correct invocation of an existing function, which
at least in the German version of LO it is not. Instead the "RAD" is,
which I found out only by experimental computer science. :-)

So, for my part, I doubt, whether:

# The correct function should indeed be RAD, and the help documentation adapted
accordingly, or
# the correct function should be RADIANS. in that case the LO code would have
to be adapted in the German version.

Not being a M$ Office Suite literate I would prefer, in any case, the
best possible functional compatibility with Excel - whatever direction
of change that means.

[Bug 983884] Re: wrong help text

2012-05-01 Thread petroo
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise

** Description changed:

calculating trigonometric functions for *degrees* requires the addition
  of the operator RAD.

The libreoffice help system displays respective examples for SIN, COS
  etc. as

  Examples
=COS(RADIANS(60)) returns 0.5, the cosine of 60 degrees.

which will result in an error. The correct version would be:
  =COS(RAD(60))

- Since these kind of examples are given for several functions they are
- strongly misleading!
+ Since these kind of examples are given for several functions they are

[Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share

2012-05-01 Thread Nhorning
Medium is not high enough priority for this bug. If the solution in
#29 works for everybody, can't it be fixed downstream by adjusting the
default settings for smb.conf? It's great that there's a fix, but
asking users in a remote location to modify this setting on each one of
their machines is obviously not ideal.
