Whenever I have chromium open, lxtask manager shows a dozen or so
instances of 'chro' owned by root. This is not the correct owner. When I
use the command 'ps -ef | grep ' for any of these process IDs, it
shows the correct owner, myself.

OK moving back to confirmed
Have had the new BIOS running for a week and have seen the issue recur
several times.
Current workaround is to boot up, and then open [ System Properties -->
Mouse and Touchpad ] mouse properties, where i will only see General
(and not Touchpad). I then close the lid

According to systemd debug-shell the stuck job, is casper-stop waiting on
"plymouth watch-keystroke", see attached screenshot. Atleast on VMware the
plymouth shutdown splash is not being displayed, so I guess keystrokes never
