[Bug 1588428] Re: PCI bus error on startup while booting into login screen (Kubuntu 16.04)
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: With a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab549tx, and Kubuntu 16.04, the problem is on startup error messages show up before the login screen as per attached screenshot: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/263296837/screenshot.jpg At times it is just stops at this screen and doesn't move to the login screen. Or while it shuts down it stops at this screen. WORKAROUND: Adding kernel boot parameters: pci=nomsi pci=noaer stop the messages from showing on startup, but it takes 2.5 minutes to boot. This feature is still present in Xubuntu 16.04. Of course, it is not critical, but it would be great if it could eventually be fixed by changing the source code localization to the more common English. This is fixed in yakkety because it is fixed in tidy-html5 and I believe tidy will be removed this cycle. In previous Ubuntu releases, the tidy package installs /usr/lib/libtidy.so which should have been installed by libtidy-dev. I'm marking this low because it only affects users who install third-party software. The developers of that software should be aware of this issue when packaging their software. ** Changed in: tidy-html5 (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released ** Also affects: tidy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: tidy (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: tidy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1595731 Title: package libtidy-0.99-0 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libtidy.so', which is also in package libtidy-dev 1:5.2.0-1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tidy/+bug/1595731/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1584284] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LiveCD does not boot on AMD A10 chip
Sorry, this version is even worse. After the grub menu the screen goes black, than after about fifteen seconds it gores even blacker, indicating that there is no longer any signal going to the monitor. A few seconds after that the "No Signal" notice appears, and after it fades everything sits quietly. At least with 16.04 there was some visible activity after the grub menu until it went black. Thanks for the effort, though. On Mon, Jul 4, 2016 at 10:28 PM, Christopher M. I had the same problem but it started after I uncomment the following line in the /etc/default/grub file: #GRUB_TERMINAL=console. I commented this line at first because I had a problem with my screen resolution mode... it was always as 640x400 so I commented that line and my system let me choose another mode. I don't know what is SRU, but 'mouse pointer offset' regression in guest-dkms (https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15324) ruins GUI usability in linux guests and is worth to be fixed before the release of 16.04.1. Please read the comments on that ticket from the post #5 , as the bug appears not only on save-restore but also shows up after a while during normal usage of guest's gui. [Bug 1598935] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 won't properly boot due to radeon module issue
Thanks for the reply. With regard to SSH, I have access to only one system, the system on which I'm booting the live DVD. Ubuntu 14.04.2 is installed on the system and works just fine. So, I would prefer *not* touching this installation. I wanted to try the 16.04 live DVD to see if there might be any upgrade issues, once Ubuntu 16.04.1 is available. So, I'll see if I can get Ubuntu 16.04 installed on the current system, using a different hard drive. Once I'm able to do that, I'll install the upstream kernel and will conduct tests. [Bug 1598993] [NEW] xrandr scaling corrupts external monitor output
Public bug reported: after doing xrandr --output HDMI2 --scale wxh, using any values except 1x1, the screen becomes increasingly distorted when typing in an editor window. The problem first appears as images of the previous cursor position being left behind, but as typing continues, lines below that being edited become increasingly garbled. The distortion can be removed temporarily by dragging the window to a different position. But of course it comes back as soon as editing resumes. The problem appears also in typing in an xterm window, as the image of the cursor gets left behind while typing the space bar. This makes the scale option completely useless for my usual purposes, and forces me to live with a screen resolution that doesn't properly fill the external monitor. The problem did not exist in xrandr 1.3.3 on my old system. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598993 Title: xrandr scaling corrupts external monitor output To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1598993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1598992] [NEW] MySQL Server installation freezes if root password contains a single quote (apostrophe)
Public bug reported: Running linuxmint 18, had trouble installating mysql-server. After a fair amount of frustration, I dug around, found a temp file that had a command in it to change my root password, my password was there (in plain text), and had a clear problem with the apostrophe in the password. [Bug 1576424] Re: Gimp crashes with text tool & caps lock
I'm not using Ubuntu for some years but I think it is valid to say I'm having issues too while using Arch Linux. Been some months! I found the same bug report in RHEL's Bugzilla (https://www.mail- archive.com/desktop-b...@lists.ubuntu.com/msg697314.html). And I think I will create one ticket in Arch's bug report environment if there is no report yet (probably not). Not that it matters here but it is avalid to know. But I need to check Debian that I sometimes use. This is a problems because while I know it's a necessity to save often to be sure that anything bad doesn't happen, whenever you get yourself lost into the creativity world, you forget to save. Always! The basic solution for now seems to be a button connected through my PC's USB port to automatically save. [Bug 1569926] Re: Package seems to got modified without changing its version number
I have tested this by creating 2 versions of a package where the first creates the configuration file /etc/test/test1.conf (test1.deb) and the second creates the configuration file /etc/test/test2.conf (test2.deb). On installing test1.deb and then test2.deb only the file /etc/test/test2.conf exists so dpkg does clean up obsolete configuration files. But it seems this does not happen if a package gets reinstalled as sayed in comment #1. ** Changed in: dpkg (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1569926 Title: Package seems to got modified without changing its version number To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1569926/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1597290] Re: Wallpapers in Windowed Mode are not scaled correctly
My branch updating the default wallpaper [1] makes this a little better. With that MP, the only blurry wallpapers are portrait-wallpapers-on-a -landscape-screen (i.e. it fixes the most common case: landscape- wallpapers). The proper fix is a little tricky. We can either (A) load a lot more of the wallpaper than we might need -- which slows loading down a bit and is wasteful of memory -- or (B) test-load the wallpaper first to see it's aspect ratio and adjust how we scale it to avoid the double-scaling we currently see on portrait wallpapers. (B) is complicated by the fact that it would involve changing the sourceSize of the CrossFadeImage object holding the wallpaper, which currently makes the CrossFadeImage go to black. Which kind of defeats the purpose of CrossFadeImage. So we may need some toolkit work. [Bug 1598935] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 won't properly boot due to radeon module issue
Tomdkat, I want to make sure you understand what you just said: >"Well, if I'm not getting any video I'm not sure how I could get SSH setup..." What is obvious is since you have a WORKAROUND, you engage it, setup SSH, reboot without the WORKAROUND, and then capture the logs. I'm not sure where the disconnect was on that. Despite this, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind the following: 1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder). 2) The release names are irrelevant. 3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was released upstream. 4) Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report Status Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598935 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 won't properly boot due to radeon module issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1598935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1598978] [NEW] No Notification For Repeat Google Authenticator Attempts
Public bug reported: Not using Ubuntu, but Arch Linux. Lightdm version 1.18.2. I have enabled 2fa using google authentication (pam_google_authenticator.so enabled in pam). The first time works great; I enter my password and then a small banner pops up saying "Authentication Code". But say I enter my password incorrectly (which doesn't get checked until the authentication code is good) the second time I have to enter the authentication code there is no banner. Obviously not critical, but it does make it sometimes tough to remember if this is an authentication code entry or a regular password entry. ** Affects: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598978 Title: No Notification For Repeat Google Authenticator Attempts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1598978/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok, this time, I have the live DVD booted with gfxpayload=text, "quiet splash" not specified, and "nomodeset" *not* specified.
