[Bug 1588428] Re: PCI bus error on startup while booting into login screen (Kubuntu 16.04)

2016-07-04 Thread Abhishek Bhatia
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

With a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab549tx, and Kubuntu 16.04, the problem is
on startup error messages show up before the login screen as per attached
screenshot:
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/263296837/screenshot.jpg

At times it is just stops at this screen and doesn't move to the login
screen. Or while it shuts down it stops at this screen.

  WORKAROUND: Adding kernel boot parameters:
  pci=nomsi
  pci=noaer

stop the messages from showing on startup, but it takes 2.5 minutes to
  boot.

[Bug 179917] Re: Quicklauncher settings display French text in English environment

2016-07-04 Thread Nils Ole Tippenhauer
This feature is still present in Xubuntu 16.04. Of course, it is not
critical, but it would be great if it could eventually be fixed by
changing the source code localization to the more common English. My
locale output is as reported in #21 (only with "en_SG.UTF-8").

Re: [Bug 1598886] Re: Misleading error message when trying to install unconfined snaps from the edge channel

2016-07-04 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
May I suggest:

  $ snap install hotcakes --beta
hotcakes is not fully confined, please acknowledge with --devmode.

... unless we already had language for this in the design document.

[Bug 1595731] Re: package libtidy-0.99-0 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libtidy.so', which is also in package libtidy-dev 1:5.2.0-1

2016-07-04 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This is fixed in yakkety because it is fixed in tidy-html5 and I believe
tidy will be removed this cycle.

In previous Ubuntu releases, the tidy package installs
/usr/lib/libtidy.so which should have been installed by libtidy-dev. I'm
marking this low because it only affects users who install third-party
software. The developers of that software should be aware of this issue
when packaging their software.

** Changed in: tidy-html5 (Ubuntu)

   Importance: Undecided

Re: [Bug 1584284] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LiveCD does not boot on AMD A10 chip

2016-07-04 Thread Roger Merritt
Sorry, this version is even worse. After the grub menu the screen goes
black, than after about fifteen seconds it gores even blacker, indicating
that there is no longer any signal going to the monitor. A few seconds
after that the "No Signal" notice appears, and after it fades everything
sits quietly. At least with 16.04 there was some visible activity after the
grub menu until it went black. Thanks for the effort, though.

[Bug 1582011] Re: Swap Failed, Indefinite hang on reboot/shutdown "Reached target Shutdown"

2016-07-04 Thread Carlos Pineda
I had the same problem but it started after I uncomment the following
line in the /etc/default/grub file:

#GRUB_TERMINAL=console.

I commented it again and the PC start to shutdown again without
problems.

I commented this line at first because I had a problem with my screen
resolution mode... it was always as 640x400 so I commented that line and
my system let me choose another mode. Of course when I commented the
line again the resolution started again in 640x400, but I changed the
line

GRUB_GFXMODE=640x400 to GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768 and it works fine in this
mode... I will try other modes later but maybe this can help you all.

The GRUB_TERMINAL line is related to the graphical terminal and the line
GRUB_GFXMODE is related to the Mode of the graphical terminal.

[Bug 1594493] Re: Extension Pack incompatiblity

2016-07-04 Thread kolokolovorot
I don't know what is SRU, but 'mouse pointer offset' regression in
guest-dkms (https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15324) ruins GUI usability
in linux guests and is worth to be fixed before the release of 16.04.1.

Please read the comments on that ticket from the post #5 , as the bug
appears not only on save-restore but also shows up after a while during
normal usage of guest's gui.

I'm new here, maybe I should create a new bug report on this specific
issue? If so, please let me know.

[Bug 1598935] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 won't properly boot due to radeon module issue

2016-07-04 Thread Tomdkat
Thanks for the reply. With regard to SSH, I have access to only one
system, the system on which I'm booting the live DVD. Ubuntu 14.04.2 is
installed on the system and works just fine. So, I would prefer *not*
touching this installation. I wanted to try the 16.04 live DVD to see
if there might be any upgrade issues, once Ubuntu 16.04.1 is available.

So, I'll see if I can get Ubuntu 16.04 installed on the current system,
using a different hard drive. Once I'm able to do that, I'll install
the upstream kernel and will conduct tests. I'll report back my
findings once I'm able to do so.

Thanks!

[Bug 1576424] Re: Gimp crashes with text tool & caps lock

2016-07-04 Thread JF
Upon writting the bug in Arch's bug report tracker (bug:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/49949), I tryed to reproduce. And ater
reading that it seems to have a relation to GTK+ and that it was fixed
(read it here by clicking at:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=648419), I concluded:

Seems like they (??) forgot to fix the issue regarding the layer's name
dialogs. The bug seems to be non-existent in Arch regarding the "Text
Tool" but still present when regarding the layer's name editor.

[Bug 1595803] Re: [i915_bpo][SKL] Display core init/uninit updates

2016-07-04 Thread Shrirang Bagul
Tim, if you wish to test the kernel mentioned in comment# 4, remove the
existing 3.19.0-64-generic #72~14.04.1-Ubuntu kernel installed from your system.
Use these commands to install the experimental kernel -

$ sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.19.0-64_3.19.0-64.72_all.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i linux-image-3.19.0-64-generic_3.19.0-64.72_amd64.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i  linux-image-extra-3.19.0-64-generic_3.19.0-64.72_amd64.deb

Reboot the system into the newly installed kernel & verify the kernel
version-

$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.19.0-64-generic (root@tucker) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro
4.6.3-1ubuntu5) ) #72 SMP Thu Jun 30 18:23:54 CST 2016

Try suspend/resume at several times to check if the audio issue is
resolved.

This would be very time consuming to do.

Which is the first 16.04 one I should try ?

v4.2.4-wily 2015-10-26 11:00 ?

[Bug 1598993] [NEW] xrandr scaling corrupts external monitor output

2016-07-04 Thread Jim Cline
Public bug reported:

after doing xrandr --output HDMI2 --scale wxh, using any values except
1x1, the screen becomes increasingly distorted when typing in an editor
window. The problem first appears as images of the previous cursor
position being left behind, but as typing continues, lines below that
being edited become increasingly garbled. The distortion can be removed
temporarily by dragging the window to a different position. But of
course it comes back as soon as editing resumes. The problem appears
also in typing in an xterm window, as the image of the cursor gets left
behind while typing the space bar. This makes the scale option
completely useless for my usual purposes, and forces me to live with a
screen resolution that doesn't properly fill the external monitor. The
problem did not exist in xrandr 1.3.3 on my old system.

[Bug 1598994] [NEW] Ubuntu Touch - Changing canera's being used in webcam chat

2016-07-04 Thread Phil UK
Public bug reported:

Currently, the only option for making webcam calls in the Ubuntu M10
tablet is Google Hangouts (web version). The sound works good and so
does the rear camera. However, when you try to activate the front facing

yours, unless you turn the tablet around.

[Bug 1598992] [NEW] MySQL Server installation freezes if root password contains a single quote (apostrophe)

2016-07-04 Thread davidreedernst
Public bug reported:

Running linuxmint 18, had trouble installating mysql-server. After a
fair amount of frustration, I dug around, found a temp file that had a
command in it to change my root password, my password was there (in
plain text), and had a clear problem with the apostrophe in the
password. It looked something like this:

SET PASSWORD FOR 'root'@'localhost' =
PASSWORD('YouWeren'tExpectingThis');

I didn't save the file, did successfully install MySQL with a password
without the single quote, and I'm not going to undo that all just to
give a better bug report. I'm sure your programmers won't have any
trouble tracking this down.

[Bug 1598989] [NEW] Ubuntu Touch - Missed calls notification panel options

2016-07-04 Thread Phil UK
Public bug reported:

These days, if you have not got someone number, they may call your phone
so you both have each others number. If you do not pick the phone up, in
your notification panel you have the option to "Message" or "Call" the
number back. If you wish to add the number to your contacts, you need to
click on the call option and then press "Add Contact" rather than
calling. It would be better to have the "Add to contacts" option in the

very slight) on the 3rd monitor (connected with DisplayLink) I have one
Radeon HD 5770 and all 3 monitors are connected to it. Open source

[Bug 1576424] Re: Gimp crashes with text tool & caps lock

2016-07-04 Thread J.F. Candido Filho
I'm not using Ubuntu for some years but I think it is valid to say I'm
having issues too while using Arch Linux. Been some months!

I found the same bug report in RHEL's Bugzilla (https://www.mail-
archive.com/desktop-b...@lists.ubuntu.com/msg697314.html). And I think I
will create one ticket in Arch's bug report environment if there is no
report yet (probably not). Not that it matters here but it is avalid to
know. But I need to check Debian that I sometimes use.

This is a problems because while I know it's a necessity to save often
to be sure that anything bad doesn't happen, whenever you get yourself
lost into the creativity world, you forget to save. Always!

The basic solution for now seems to be a button connected through my
PC's USB port to automatically save. I need to dev the bord first but I
guarantee it will have a big flashy red led-button and a siren connected
to it with automatic alarm with 1ms trigger.

[Bug 1569926] Re: Package seems to got modified without changing its version number

2016-07-04 Thread Sworddragon
I have tested this by creating 2 versions of a package where the first
creates the configuration file /etc/test/test1.conf (test1.deb) and the
second creates the configuration file /etc/test/test2.conf (test2.deb).
On installing test1.deb and then test2.deb only the file
/etc/test/test2.conf exists so dpkg does clean up obsolete configuration
files. But it seems this does not happen if a package gets reinstalled
as sayed in comment #1.

[Bug 1597290] Re: Wallpapers in Windowed Mode are not scaled correctly

2016-07-04 Thread Michael Terry
My branch updating the default wallpaper [1] makes this a little better.
With that MP, the only blurry wallpapers are portrait-wallpapers-on-a
-landscape-screen (i.e. it fixes the most common case: landscape-
wallpapers).

The proper fix is a little tricky. We can either (A) load a lot more of
the wallpaper than we might need -- which slows loading down a bit and
is wasteful of memory -- or (B) test-load the wallpaper first to see
it's aspect ratio and adjust how we scale it to avoid the double-scaling
we currently see on portrait wallpapers. (B) is complicated by the fact
that it would involve changing the sourceSize of the CrossFadeImage
object holding the wallpaper, which currently makes the CrossFadeImage
go to black. Which kind of defeats the purpose of CrossFadeImage. So
we may need some toolkit work.

[Bug 1598935] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 won't properly boot due to radeon module issue

2016-07-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Tomdkat, I want to make sure you understand what you just said:
>"Well, if I'm not getting any video I'm not sure how I could get SSH setup..."

What is obvious is since you have a WORKAROUND, you engage it, setup
SSH, reboot without the WORKAROUND, and then capture the logs. I'm not
sure where the disconnect was on that.

Despite this, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream
kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ?
Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report Status Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

pam). The first time works great; I enter my password and then a small
banner pops up saying "Authentication Code". But say I enter my password
incorrectly (which doesn't get checked until the authentication code is
good) the second time I have to enter the authentication code there is
no banner. Obviously not critical, but it does make it sometimes tough
to remember if this is an authentication code entry or a regular
password entry.

** Affects: lightdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1598935] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 won't properly boot due to radeon module issue

2016-07-04 Thread Tomdkat
Ok, this time, I have the live DVD booted with gfxpayload=text, "quiet
splash" not specified, and "nomodeset" *not* specified. Once the
optical drive stopped making noise, I pressed Ctrl-ALt-F1 and my monitor
immediately got a signal. I then pressed Ctrl-Alt-F7 and got to the
desktop.

I'll attach the dmesg and Xorg logs now.

Thanks!

[Bug 1580356] Re: OpenVPN causes reboot failure on Xenial in AWS

2016-07-04 Thread Malte Zacharias
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1598522 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598522

I can confirm the above reports as well as the description in #1595822.
OpenVPN is started too early in the boot process. Cloud-Init will default to
configure tun0 instead of the guests main network interface via dhcp. This
breaks the cloud-init process.
