makedumpfile is the name of the source package which builds kdump-tools.

[Bug 1598935] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 won't properly boot due to radeon module issue

2016-07-24 Thread Tomdkat
Ok, I _finally_ have an update on this. I put another hard drive into
the system, booted an Ubuntu 16.04.1 live DVD I burned today, and
installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 on this test hard drive. When I booted the
live DVD, the video issue occurred, so I re-booted and specified the
"nomodeset" parameter. After doing that, I was able to get the system
to boot and was able to successfully install Ubuntu 16.04.1. After the
installation completed, the system booted *without* my having to specify
the "nomodeset" parameter and the monitor was running at full resolution
(1600x900 or something along those lines). So, I thought maybe the
issue had been fixed with the 16.04.1 release of Ubuntu. I removed the
test hard drive, reinstalled the primary hard drive, booted the system
to Ubuntu 14.04.2, and performed an _upgrade_ to Ubuntu 16.04.1. After
the upgrade completed, the video issue returned *sigh*. However, I'm
now able to get SSH setup so I can collect the requested logs.

I'm confused as to why a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 works but the
upgrade doesn't. From what I understand, the AMD video driver is in the
kernel and I would think the 4.4 kernel would be the same, regardless of
the system being installed fresh vs being upgraded.

As of right now, the primary hard drive has Ubuntu 16.04.1 installed,
the video issue is present, and kernel version 4.4-31 (I believe) is
running. Once I'm able to get SSH setup and get the logs transferred
to another system, I'll attach them to this bug report.

Thanks!

Another duplicate today.

This bug in libmirclient is now causing Untiy8 to fail start-up
sometimes, and black-screen.

** Tags added: black-screen unity8-desktop

** Summary changed:

- libmirclient gives up and terminates prematurely with "std::exception::what:
disconnected: no new buffers" via ExchangeSemantics::submit()
+ unity8/libmirclient gives up and terminates prematurely with
"std::exception::what: disconnected: no new buffers" via
ExchangeSemantics::submit()

** Description changed:

Under heavy resizing (stress testing under Valgrind), my Mir client
  (Xmir) crashed with:

[1444895332.392862] MirBufferStreamAPI: Caught exception at client
library boundary (in mir_buffer_stream_swap_buffers):

The strange thing is it's only the client that died. The server survived
and I can connect new clients to it.

Hi,

I don't think this bug should be fixed with makedumpfile. I think it

[Bug 1408979] Re: white background on xfce4-indicator-plugin with non-Greybird themes

2016-07-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 15.04 is no longer
supported and support for Ubuntu 15.10 runs out later this week.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I've tried recreating this bug with Xubuntu 16.04 LTS and was unable to
with any theme in shimmer-themes (some of the themes were removed before
16.04 LTS because they were old and had bugs like this one). I was also
unable to duplicate this bug with Xubuntu 14.04.4 LTS. Therefore, I am
closing this bug.

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1246364] Re: update-notifier does not show a tray icon in xubuntu

2016-07-24 Thread John Bigboote
Forest: Any chance for a Trusty .deb of this in your PPA? I've been
running with update-notifier uninstalled for over a year, since it is
effectively broken due to this bug. Real world situations I encountered
before removing it:

1. The update dialog stealing focus while I was typing, causing me to
inadvertently activate it through keyboard shortcuts.

2. The update dialog stealing focus while I was watching a video in full
screen XBMC (now Kodi).

Both of these scenarios are completely intolerable, so I now run updates
manually whenever I happen to think of it.

I was unable to understand the issue you described.

I don't think this is a theme issue. For it to be a theme issue, it
would have to work in some themes but not in others. I believe the

[Bug 1573470] Re: BQ M10 tablet. Libreoffice Impress presentation mode displays wrong colors

2016-07-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Upgrading to Mesa 12 unfortunately has not solved this bug.

I suspect however the idea will still work, and most likely that
aforementioned enhancement in Mesa 12 is just unfinished and/or
untested.

[Bug 1571865] Re: mysql fails to start after upgrade if previous defaults were customised

2016-07-24 Thread Rocko
I found that when it tried to install mysql-5.7 -
5.7.13-0ubuntu0.16.04.2, dpkg just hung forever at postinst (in this
case, forever means overnight). The only way around this was to kill -9
the two mysqld processes that ran (I think one was already running, and
then another ran when I killed the first).

Then I upgraded to yakkety and it installed mysql-
server-5.7_5.7.13-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb and I had exactly the same problem.
Killing the mysqld processes as before allowed dpkg to continue.

I found some other issues too when I tried reinstalling from scratch -
/etc/mysql/my.cnf has the line "!includedir /etc/mysql/conf.d/", but
/etc/mysql/conf.d no longer exists if you have purged mysql before
reinstalling, so the server won't start up and configuration therefore
fails. I had to comment the line out manually to get it to work.

to do 'ubuntu-bug xorg-server-source', although it seems to have
actually reported it against xorg-server in the end.

[Bug 1606103] [NEW] modeset driver does not detect all screen resolutions

2016-07-24 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

My laptop's 4K screen (Dell XPS 15 9550) has these resolutions,
according to the intel driver:

   3840x2160 60.00 +
   3200x1800 60.00
   2880x1620 60.00
   2560x1440 60.00*
   2048x1536 60.00
   1920x1440 60.00
   1856x1392 60.01
   1792x1344 60.01
   2048x1152 60.00
   1920x1200 59.95
   1920x1080 60.0059.93
   1600x1200 60.00
   1680x1050 59.9559.88
   1600x1024 60.17
   1400x1050 59.98
   1600x900 60.00
   1280x1024 60.02
   1440x900 59.89
   1280x960 60.00
   1368x768 60.00
   1360x768 59.8059.96
   1152x864 60.00
   1280x720 60.00
   1024x768 60.00
   1024x576 60.00
   960x540 60.00
   800x600 60.3256.25
   864x486 60.00
   640x480 59.94
   720x405 60.00
   640x360 60.00

But with the modeset driver, it detects these resolutions:

   3840x2160 60.00*+
   2048x1536 60.00
   1920x1440 60.00
   1856x1392 60.01
   1792x1344 60.01
   1920x1200 59.95
   1920x1080 59.93
   1600x1200 60.00
   1680x1050 59.9559.88
   1600x1024 60.17
   1400x1050 59.98
   1280x1024 60.02
   1440x900 59.89
   1280x960 60.00
   1360x768 59.8059.96
   1152x864 60.00
   1024x768 60.0460.00
   960x720 60.00
   928x696 60.05
   896x672 60.01
   960x600 60.00
   960x540 59.99
   800x600 60.0060.3256.25
   840x525 60.0159.88
   800x512 60.17
   700x525 59.98
   640x512 60.02
   720x450 59.89
   640x480 60.0059.94
   680x384 59.8059.96
   576x432 60.06
   512x384 60.00
   400x300 60.3256.34
   320x240 60.05

It seems to be picking up some extra super-low resolutions (like
320x240) but not the higher 16:9 resolutions. I normally run it at
2560x1440, because the native resolution is too high with an external
monitor attached at 1980x1080, but I can't do this with the modeset
driver.

I'm reporting this as per https://tjaalton.wordpress.com/2016/07/23
/intel-graphics-gen4-and-newer-now-defaults-to-modesetting-driver-on-x/,
although note that there are several inaccuracies in that post - there's
a typo in ‘cp /usr/share/doc/xserver-xoeg-video-intel/xorg.conf
/etc/X11‘, the file doesn't exist in any case if you correct the typo,
and I couldn't use ubuntu-bug to report this against xorg-xserver,
because ubuntu-bug said the xorg-xserver package doesn't exist.

[Bug 1605687] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.13-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-07-24 Thread Chris Siebenmann
When this happened to us during a mysql-server upgrade, the root
cause is that we had mysql (the server) disabled, ie 'systemctl disable
mysql'. When you do this, 'invoke-rc.d mysql start' winds up doing nothing
and not starting the server, which causes mysql_upgrade to fail because
it requires a running server.

Explicitly starting mysql before you do the upgrade doesn't help,
because the mysql-server-5.7 postinst script starts out by shutting it
down. What does work around the issue is re-enabling mysql beforehand:
'systemctl enable mysql', do the upgrade, then 'systemctl disable mysql;
systemctl stop mysql'.

(Invoke-rc.d does not directly ask systemd for the status of mysql.
Instead it looks at /etc/rc5.d/ S* and K* symlinks, which systemctl
manipulates for systemd services that also have an /etc/init.d
script, which mysql does. Finding this takes tracing through a lot
of layers.)

A correct bugfix for our issue would be for the mysql-server postinst
script to unconditionally start mysql using eg 'service mysql start',
instead of relying on invoke-rc.d. The ideal sequence would be to
explicitly start mysql, run mysql_upgrade, shut mysql down, and then run
'invoke-rc.d mysql start' to restart it only if it's been enabled.

2016-07-24 Thread Shevek
When I say "invoke-rc.d is not working", I mean that a service status on
the service suggests that invoke-rc.d did nothing whatsoever. No errors,
nothing. The mysql service didn't even notice that invoke-rc.d had been
run.

The problem is that invoke-rc.d is not invoking mysql's start-stop
script properly. Swapping 'invoke-rc.d' for 'service' in invoke() makes
the script succeed. My system is now correctly configured.

[Bug 1606099] [NEW] Drop obsolete gconf override

2016-07-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

mythbuntu-default-settings 1.13 in Ubuntu 16.10 includes this gconf
override:

/apps/update-notifier/auto_launch false

But update-notifier doesn't use gconf any more.

I'm attaching a completely untested bzr commit that disables
notifications.

I'm guessing that this doesn't actually stop update-manager from
notifying you of updates. You might want to look into the 'regular-auto-
launch-interval' key. If you're doing this kind of thing, I think you
should look into enabling unattended upgrades (at least security) by
default too.

The current Xmir may indeed have broken key behaviour for some apps. I
never found an app that was broken but noticed the mistake in source
code and fixed it (will be fixed in the next Xmir). You'll need to wait
for the next Xmir release.

Also, we can reproduce this bug now. So there's no need to add any more

I have separated the two bugs. Because although we believe the root

vastly different. It's OK to have one fix for two bugs.

[Bug 1606097] [NEW] Message "You can now unplug {partition name}" When Unmounting internall HDD partition

2016-07-24 Thread Anthony
Public bug reported:

In Nautilus (or "Files", or whatever it's actually called), whenever I
unmount a partition by clicking the eject icon a message appears saying
"You can now unplug {partition name}".

This is fine if the entire partition is an external drive, but for
internal drives still appearing in the window and still listed in lsblk
(also externals with other mounted partitions) this could mislead
someone to attempt to unplug a drive that is unsafe to remove. Also, if
there is more than one partition in a drive and some are still mounted,
you shouldn't get that message saying you can now unplug the one
partition you unmounted while the other partitions are mounted and drive
is unsafe to unplug.

[Bug 1549455] Re: Unity8-dash on Intel Atom graphics crashes and restarts continuously [qtubuntu: ASSERT: "eglDestroyContext(mEglDisplay, EglContext) == EGL_TRUE"]

2016-07-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've already confirmed Cherryview is not affected by this bug. But I'll
update and check again.

** Description changed:

Qt clients are failing to create an egl context when running on Intel
- Pineview, but not Cherryview systems under Mir.
+ Diamondville and Pineview, but not Cherryview systems under Mir.

eglCreateContext fails with a EGL_BAD_MATCH error code.

When it fails, Qt tries to delete & recreate the context, which then
  crashes the client (bug 1580118)

  === Original bug description ===
This bug Makes the pc UNUSABLE
when I try to launch Unity 8 and Mir, after writing the password on the login
(in the image attached) the bar to enter the password disappears and my
computer screen stays stuck without them let me do anything. the connection
begins to separate and reattach alone and I can only move the cursor. it makes
the computer unusable and I am forced to restart forced to then enter into
Unity 7. represented in the screenshot is the lock status after entering the
password.
  Version: unity8.12+16.04.201604.01.1
  Version of Mir : 0.21

[Bug 1500210] Re: gtk.css incorrectly modified

2016-07-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This may be a duplicate of bug 1473821 which should be fixed in Ubuntu
16.04 LTS. If your config file was already broken though, the fix
doesn't repair it but at least it hopefully shouldn't break it in the
future.

[Bug 1606071] Re: [HP ProBook 455 G3] Unable to boot

2016-07-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Brian, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To clarify, are you able to boot with 15.10 if you uninstall fglrx?

** Description changed:

- This bug affects me on Ubuntu 16.04, but not on 15.10 where the fglrx
- drivers are still available. I have the graphics card A10-8700P APU
- "Carrizo" on my HP ProBook 455 G3 laptop. I get a black screen
- immediately unless I set the kernel parameter nomodeset and boot into
- low graphics.
+ When using Ubuntu 16.04 I get a black screen immediately when booting up. I
tried using kernel parameter amdgpu.runpm=0 Ubuntu boots up into the live
Ubuntu with the correct resolution but after 5 minutes or so, I got the black
screen again. This doesn't happen with 15.10 where the fglrx drivers are still
available. My hardware:
+ 00:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Carrizo [1002:9874] (rev c5) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
+ Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:80ef]

- I found a recommendation at
- https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117591 Comment #7, to append
- "amdgpu.runpm=0" to the kernel command line in Grub setparams. I did try
- that with the Ubuntu 16.04 LiveUSB. The result was that it booted into
- the live Ubuntu with the correct resolution but after 5 minutes or so, I
- got the black screen again.
-
- I wish AMD or Canonical or whoever is responsible for the decision to
- make fglrx unavailable in 16.04 would reconsider and provide for a
- smoother transition by allowing users with graphics cards that are still
- unsupported by amdgpu to "opt-in" to fglrx until AMD works out the all
- the kinks. It's as if they just don't care about end users whatsoever.
- This is the behavior one would expect of Microsoft, not Ubuntu. Man, am
- I frustrated!
+ WORKAROUND: The following kernel parameter allows me to boot into low
graphics mode:
+ nomodeset

[Bug 1606091] [NEW] yuyo doesn't support GTK 3.20

2016-07-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.10 will include GTK 3.20 but yuyo-gtk-theme is not usable with
GTK 3.20.

As has been discussed in detail elsewhere, GTK 3.20 includes a major
rewrite of the theming code and all GTK3 themes have to be re-worked for
it. There are several GTK 3.20 compatible themes now:

- Arc
- Breeze (from KDE)
- MATE Themes
- Paper
- Numix
- Vertex
- and Ubuntu's own Ambiance and Radiance
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/gtk320)

Also, the Homepage points to https://github.com/snwh/yuyo-gtk-theme but that
URL doesn't work any more (which I believe is a hint that the original author
doesn't intend to maintain it any more). I did find a copy of the source code
at https://github.com/Acidburn0zzz/yuyo-gtk-theme

[Bug 1246364] Re: update-notifier does not show a tray icon in xubuntu

2016-07-24 Thread Forest
Launchpad statistics report 300 downloads for my patched Ubuntu 14.04
(trusty) builds.

In order to download those packages, all 300 of those people had to
figure out what package was responsible for the removed functionality,
find their way to this bug report, read through the comments to discover
my PPA builds, and take it upon themselves to either add my PPA to their
systems or manually download and install my package. For each of those
300 people who had the knowledge and perseverance to overcome all those
obstacles, there are surely more who did not, and simply had their
workflows broken by this bug.

The usability studies that led to this change were obviously flawed.

Dear maintainers, I hope you will reconsider your earlier decision soon,
and fix the problem. I have already done the hard part for you. We,
along with those who haven't the time or knowledge to speak up in this
bug report, are depending on you.

For now, I have attached new patches for the version of update-notifier
that is current in Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial):

restore_icon.patch is an update of my earlier patch.

restore_reboot.patch builds upon that work, additionally restoring the
"Reboot Required" UI.

I have also uploaded new builds to my PPA for Ubuntu Xenial. These
include both of my patches, along with updated debian packaging
(actually just an additional line in debian/update-notifier.install) to
ensure the reboot-dialog.ui file gets installed.

[Bug 390959] Re: 045e:00b0 Microsoft keyboard and 045e:0745 nano transceiver recognised as joystick - interferes with some games

2016-07-24 Thread Paulo Villi
Bug happens on fully updated Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon (based on Ubuntu
16.04) with linux kernel 4.4.0-31.

I see my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 as "Microsoft Microsoft®
2.4GHz Transceiver v7.0" with Axes:37 Buttons:75 as
Device:/dev/input/js0 on jstest-gtk.

On Steam version of Doom & Destiny it really treats the transceiver as a
joystick and registers a constant "directional up" from it, making the
game unplayable.

On Steam version of The Banner Saga it works as keyboard but at the same
time when I try using volume up and volume down it detects these as a
gamepad input and starts the built-in gamepad setup in mid-game.

[Bug 1606089] [NEW] unable to boot after 'entire disk' install (16.10, ppc)

2016-07-24 Thread ernsteiswuerfel
Public bug reported:

Just did an entire disk install from todays (24.07.2016) Yakkety daily.
Installation procedure went fine, but the automatically created
/etc/yaboot.conf seems faulty.

1st stage-boot runs fine, the boot options are displayed correctly,
pressing "L" leaves me at the 2nd stage boot prompt where you can choose
between "Linux" and "old" boot options. But either of them does not
work, throwing the error message:

"/pci@f400/ata-6@d/@0:3,/boot/vmlinux: unknown or corrupt
filesystem"

To rule out other issues I did an openfirmware reset, wiped /dev/sda and
tried a second time with a fresh mac partition table. But the problem
stays the same, 16.10 is not bootable on my PowerBook 5,6. It did run
16.04 before.

Partition layout is the standard created by "entire disk" install, /dev/sda4 is
swap.

[Bug 1580348] Re: mksh 52c bi_errorf(Tbadsubst) format string is not a string literal

2016-07-24 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Fix committed – please do try CVS HEAD; if this doesn’t help, I will
require full build logs.

Removing from the Ubuntu package, as it’s not affected by this issue;
adding the upstream package.

With the last code, Build.sh (triggered by mksrc.sh in Android) will
recognise LLVM/Clang automatically and set CPPFLAGS accordingly to not
use our own string pooling but to rely on the compiler’s instead.

[Bug 1606080] [NEW] Ubuntu MATE 16.04 install crashed towards the end

2016-07-24 Thread Csaba Toth
Public bug reported:

This might be the #1583326 I'm not sure. I haven't seen the log files
yet as this ticket started to be filed automatically. /dev/sda is the
install DVD and I have no idea why the installer would try to install
there.

Furthermore, I'm invoked the installer after I booted the live CD, since
neither my wireless is supported by default, also I had to install
mdadm.

[Bug 1606071] [NEW] AMDGPU driver does not support graphics card A10-8700P APU "Carrizo"

2016-07-24 Thread Brian
Public bug reported:

This bug affects me on Ubuntu 16.04, but not on 15.10 where the fglrx
drivers are still available. I have the graphics card A10-8700P APU
"Carrizo" on my HP ProBook 455 G3 laptop. I get a black screen
immediately unless I set the kernel parameter nomodeset and boot into
low graphics.

I found a recommendation at
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117591 Comment #7, to append
"amdgpu.runpm=0" to the kernel command line in Grub setparams. I did try
that with the Ubuntu 16.04 LiveUSB. The result was that it booted into
the live Ubuntu with the correct resolution but after 5 minutes or so, I
got the black screen again.

I wish AMD or Canonical or whoever is responsible for the decision to
make fglrx unavailable in 16.04 would reconsider and provide for a
smoother transition by allowing users with graphics cards that are still
unsupported by amdgpu to "opt-in" to fglrx until AMD works out the all
the kinks. It's as if they just don't care about end users whatsoever.
This is the behavior one would expect of Microsoft, not Ubuntu. Man, am
I frustrated!

[Bug 1577137] Re: saned.service masked and cannot be unmasked

2016-07-24 Thread Michael Härtl
I'm on Linux Mint 18 which is based on Ubuntu 16.04 and have exactly the
same problem. Unfortunately the solutions provided here did not work for
me. If I understand correctly, the fix should be:

# sudo systemctl start saned.socket
# sudo systemctl enable saned.socket

Still simple scan doesn't work and I never see an instance of saned
being started. The scanner is found with "scanimage -L" though and it
also worked fine with simple scan in earlier versions.

So something must still be missing. saned does not start for me.

[Bug 1582011] Re: Swap Failed, Indefinite hang on reboot/shutdown "Reached target Shutdown"

2016-07-24 Thread Red
One addendum to the above, as a verification process, the 16-04 64-bit
install was repeated, each time discarding any previous contents on the
drive, just the eliminate any one-time glitches that might have
occurred.

Also, only Ubuntu and updates through Software Updater have been
installed. No extra software.

[Bug 1582011] Re: Swap Failed, Indefinite hang on reboot/shutdown "Reached target Shutdown"

2016-07-24 Thread Red
I first installed Ubuntu 32-bit desktop some years ago (I believe 11.04)
and have been upgrading it every six months. I am now up to 16.04 and
have not ever experienced this shutdown problem.

Since Chrome no longer supports 32-bit, I have downloaded 16.04 64-bit
(and verified the sha256).

I have burned the 64-bit to both DVD and thumb drives. I can boot live
from either and shutdown without a problem.

If I install to a brand new SSD, I hang during shutdown.

If I replace the SSD with the original HDD with 16.04 32-bit, I can
shutdown without problem.

I have found several suggestions on the Web to modify the
/etc/default/grub file to solve the problem. My two /etc/default/grub
files are identical so I don't see that as a problem.

None of the following work, they just hang:
  shutdown -h now
  shutdown -P now
  reboot -p
sudo reboot -f (Just responds “Rebooting” and then nothing.)
  sudo halt
  poweroff

In summary, 11.04 (32-bit) upgraded to 11.10 upgraded to 12.04 upgraded
to ... 16.04 shuts down without a problem while 16.04 clean install
hangs.

Maybe, given time, I'll download 16.04 32-bit and do a clean install to
see what that will do.
