[Bug 1653476] [NEW] no thumbnail for WebP images

2017-01-01 Thread Bosko
Public bug reported:

Images in the WebP (.webp) format don't get a thumbnail, but just the default
stock black icon. When you click on the image, it displays fine. And you can
also send it via Telegram and it will display fine.
In the attachment you can see two identical images; one in PNG and the other in
WebP. And only the PNG image will have a thumbnail.
I use Gallery version 2.9.1.1322

2017-01-01 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
@Alexis,

I would like to ask you to register the Sony bug as a new one as this
will allow us to track it more efficiently.

As for the logs, try sending us syslog with debugging enabled.
Instructions on how to capture it are here
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingBluetooth

Also, could you share which Ubuntu version are you using?

Thanks!

[Bug 1653482] [NEW] Flash player crashes sporadically in Konqueror

2017-01-01 Thread Pierre Abbat
Public bug reported:

I was browsing forum.419eater.com and scamwarners.com/forum together,
which I do often. It crashes without warning when I'm just looking at a
page or scrolling. It's crashed several times in two hours, which it did
not do before today. The last time I updated packages was December 23.
The crash handler could not get a backtrace, so I ran konqueror in gdb
and got the following:

[Bug 1653481] [NEW] Memory leak in libcrypt.so

2017-01-01 Thread Andrew Parker
Public bug reported:

ubuntu version: 16.04 LTS (also seen in 14.04 and suspect all versions)
glibc version: 2.23

Repeatedly opening libcrypt.so, calling crypt and closing libcrypt.so
leaks memory. I believe the issue is with static arrays which are
allocated on demand but never deallocated. See both md5-crypt.c and
sha256-crypt.c: both these files have a static buffer:

libc_freeres_ptr (static char *buffer);

which is allocated by the __md5_crypt and __sha256_crypt functions
respectively.

This is not a pathological issue. I have encountered it in a real world
use case. The following describes the situation in which it occurred.

- A continuously running process uses PAM to perform authentication.
- PAM module used relies on crypt function call.
- Each call to auth causes libcrypt.so to be loaded and unloaded.
- Result: Small leak in main process each time auth is performed.

Workaround was to force a dependency in the main processes source code
on libcrypt.so thus keeping the library permanently in memory.

I suspect this may be a bug destined for glibc itself rather than the
Ubuntu distribution but, as per glibc guidelines, I'm reporting it here
first. I haven't investigated the source code in enough detail yet to
conclude where the responsibility for the bug lies.

[Bug 1522675] Re: Can't drop privileges for downloading : _apt user not allowed

2017-01-01 Thread dino99
>From the Debian commit:
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/apt/apt.git/diff/?id=78db351 which is
supposed to be a reworded less scary message:

-_error->WarningE("pkgAcquire::Run", _("Can't drop privileges for
downloading as file '%s' couldn't be accessed by user '%s'."),
+_error->WarningE("pkgAcquire::Run", _("Download is performed
unsandboxed as root as file '%s' couldn't be accessed by user '%s'.")

For the non techies (says the huge majority of Ubuntu(s) users), that new
reworded message is as scary as the first one !!!
David (maintener) should completly silence that warning for the common users,
and consider it only as an internal/debugging warning.

[Bug 1629782] Re: Hotspot crashes the device and reboots

2017-01-01 Thread Jan Baarda
E5 OTA-14, After switching of hotspot system will hang within a few
minutes (not immediately). When called mobile rings, no possibility to
answer. The device heats up when system hangs. This till signal "battery
critical low", after which the system resumes normal operation.

N.B. System also hangs when battery fully loaded (>90%)

In all cases the system can only be restarted after prolonged pressing
(>40 sec.) of the restart/switch-off button.

[Bug 1652562] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E130] BCM4313: very slow speed with brcmsmac

2017-01-01 Thread tim474
>tim474, the latest mainline kernel is 4.10-rc1 (not 4.4, or 4.9).

When I tried, it was 4.9. I'll try with 4.10, but I doubt that it was fixed. I
tried Ubuntu 16.04 on another laptop (Samsung NF-310) with the same WiFi chip:

>Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn
Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:4727] (rev 01)

And on Samsung it works properly.

And on Lenovo E130 I noticed that brcmsmac can work properly if I
install wl propriteary driver, and do

>rmmod wl
>modprobe bcma
>modprobe brmsmac

and don't reboot or suspend. After reboot (with blacklisting wl and
unblacklisting brcmsmac and bcma) or suspend-resume it has the same
problem.

Maybe cause of the problem is firmware?

And I noticed a problem with wl. It doesn't connect to some public
networks. But brcmsmac (after the hook above) or windows (on the same
laptop) connects to them.

[Bug 1431332] Re: sddm not starting after upgrade

2017-01-01 Thread Daniel Albers
I was asked to fix a machine affected by this after upgrading from
trusty to xenial (LTS releases).

On this machine systemctl start sddm started sddm successfully, but
enable did nothing.

Reinstalling the sddm package added the previously missing
/etc/systems/system/display-manager.service symlink, which fixed the
issue.

[Bug 1653456] Re: ASUS G752VS: Touchpad and Fn keys not working (Ubuntu 16.04.1/16.10/17.04)

2017-01-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1653456/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I am seeing the exact same bug - highly annoying!!!
Everytime I edit and save a file via Komodo it crashes the file manager,
doesn't matter which file manager I use. Tried Caja, Nautilus, etc. The error
is the same as above:

[Bug 1270189] Re: Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi connection

2017-01-01 Thread Steve Arnold
My problem sounds like comment #20 exactly: with no SIM card (yet) and
a fresh mako image of stable/ubuntu-developer I have no DNS at all after
connecting to WIFI. Manual fudging of resolv.conf makes things work
again. I'll install the log viewer next...

I DID, however, fix this by uninstalling Unity. I could't say which
specific package, unfortunately, as I just picked large swathes of them.

I never liked Unity anyway.

[Bug 1653457] [NEW] Three finger tap not working for "ELAN1010:00 04F3:3012 Touchpad"

2017-01-01 Thread Jason Edgecombe
Public bug reported:

three-finger taps are not working with my touchpad. One-finger, two-
finger, three-finger, four-finger, and five-finger taps are detected by
evtest, but only single and double finger taps are detected by xev. All
other touchpad features are working, including two-finger vertical
scrolling, two-finger horizontal scrolling, tap and drag, clicking on
the left and right virtual buttons on the bottom of the touchpad.

My end goal is to use two-finger tap for paste (i.e. middle click) and
three-finger for right-click, but the three-finger tap is not detected.

If it matters, a two-finger tap still brings up the right-click menu
after running "synclient TapButton2=2".

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS x86_64 on a Dell Inspiron 7559. logs from
xev and evtest are attached.

[Bug 1653459] [NEW] Huge lag when using mouse and keyboard on m10 with OTA14

2017-01-01 Thread Kristijan
Public bug reported:

If I connect bluetooth keyboard Logitech k810 with tablet m10 FHD (with OTA
14), everything works nice, but if I add bluetooth mouse Logitech MX anywhere
2, everything starts to lag. It only does that when both of them are connected
at the same time.
And not only lag, when I type a text, I get additional letter, which are
already pressed. Something like this:
I write "hello"
I get "heo"

If you need anything else, I will be glad to help.

Thanks

[Bug 1653456] [NEW] ASUS G752VS: Touchpad and Fn keys not working (Ubuntu 16.04.1/16.10/17.04)

2017-01-01 Thread aljosa
Public bug reported:

Non-Optimus laptop ASUS G752VS-GC063D-CST256.
17.3" FHD LED 1920x1080, Intel Core i7-6700HQ (3.50Ghz), 16GB DDR4, 256GB M.2
NVMe SSD + 1TB HDD 7200rpm, DVDRW-DL, Nvidia GTX1070 8GB GDDR5, Wifi
802.11ac+Bluetooth 4.1 (Dual band) 2*2, Gb LAN, HDMI, mDP, Intel WiDi, USB3.0
x4, USB3.1-Type C(Gen2) with Thunderbolt, HD webcam, Illuminated KB, no OS.

Hello, after experimenting few days ago with Ubuntu 16.04.1, 16.10 and
17.04, among other problems I found that touchpad and Fn keys (all
except volume control) doesn't work on my brand new ASUS G752VS.

It is very hard even to try Ubuntu 16.10 and 17.04 because of the
missing mouse pointer. This problem must be related to a video driver
because if after installing one is capable to install Nvidia drivers -
problem is solved. This problem doesn't exist both while trying and
installing Ubuntu 16.04.1!

I'm currently on Windows 10, and this bug report is made from Ubuntu
16.04.1 LiveCD.

[Bug 1568429] Re: 1002:68b8 Radeon won't work with KMS enabled

2017-01-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

After upgrading to Xenial today and ensuring the xorg radeon driver was
enabled, when booting both monitor lose signal input and the keyboard
  becomes unresponsive.

  My hardware:
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Juniper XT [Radeon HD 5770] [1002:68b8] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

+  Subsystem: XFX Pine Group Inc. Juniper XT [Radeon HD 5770] [1682:2990]

WORKAROUND: Use one of the following kernel parameters:
  nomodeset
  radeon.modeset=0

- The machine will boot but the radeon driver will not load. Attempting to
- load radeon driver with `sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1` after booting
- with modesetting off results in the same fail state explained above.
+ The machine will boot but the radeon driver will not load. Attempting to load
radeon driver with:
+ sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1
+
+ after booting with modesetting off results in the same fail state
+ explained above.
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+ 1. Computer in OFF state, press power.
+ 2. At boot select screen, press `e` and edit kernel line by appending:
+ modprobe.blacklist=radeon
+ 3. Press `F10` to boot.
+ 4. At login screen, click gear icon in upper right and select `Suspend`.
+ 5. After computer is in suspended state, press any key to awaken.
+ 6. The display does not "reawaken" and still appears off.

2017-01-01 Thread Jont Allen
Pascal,
I installed your suggested fix, and it works perfectly. I have been using it
for more than 24 hours,
and the button-sticking problem is gone.

I am able to return to using the X250. It was sitting on the desk,
unused, but now its back in operation.

I cant thank you enought.

[Bug 1653450] Re: Insatll XUBUNTU 16.04 on SSD with(out)UEFI

2017-01-01 Thread brunli
Possible to update the MBR on the SSD can Help.

Before last year I had XUBUNTU 16.04 installed to try it, it worked, but the
Applications I use daily were not so nice. So use Version 14.04 up to today.
I updated the Mainboard Firmware just before I tried to install the new Version
16.04, without other effects.

[Bug 1607535] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 fails to install core fonts and should be updated to version 3.6 from Debian

2017-01-01 Thread Richard Elkins
Automated work-around (no failures, no re-runs, no manual edits), 3
steps:

sudo apt-get -y remove --purge ttf-mscorefonts-installer
wget
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/contrib/m/msttcorefonts/ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb
 -P ~/Downloads
sudo apt install ~/Downloads/ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb

(Mind any line-breaks in step 2 above i.e. the wget step)

Hopefully, the Ubuntu repo version will be fixed soon.

editing "/etc/gdm/...", on my system fully updated though, there is no
dangling files in /etc/gdm/, so that's good.

This is what is actually needed (as we know):
{{{
$ cat /etc/gdm3/custom.conf | grep Auto
AutomaticLoginEnable = true
AutomaticLogin =
}}}

Even if we fixed the installer, what to do about all the existing
versions with the bug?

Will we have it auto-correct once the user runs patch updates? - or are
they just stuck with googling to find this bug report and then have to
fix it manually? :(

[Bug 925405] Re: VNC server does not work with Mac Screen Sharing

2017-01-01 Thread Rui Carmo
Hey there. Will git tip from September do? At that time I built QEMU on
Ubuntu 16.04.1, pointed my Mac (10.10) at it again and had the same
experience (had to use a third-party client)

Considering I opened this four years ago, I'm kind of surprised it's
still a talking topic. Was kind of expecting more people to report it,
but then again Launchpad is a bit off the beaten path these days and
most people just sigh and fetch a third party client.

It's just that it seems like a trivial thing to fix overall, so I
thought it worthwhile to chime in - Happy New Year!

[Bug 1386005] Re: Password not accepted graphical boot for encrypted root system

2017-01-01 Thread Ondrej Balaz
I am affected by the very same bug in 16.10. I have hybrid
virtual/dulaboot system - a physical encrypted partition + dedicated ESP
that is bootable on bare metal from UEFI and able to load either Ubuntu
or Windows; or bootable via VirtualBox using dedicated ESP and UEFI
boot.

- In case of bare metal everything boots properly and password can be
entered

- In case of booting in virtualbox boot stucks in LUKS password phase.
Any attempt to type is immediately echoed in text-mode over Plymouth
graphical screen (top left corner) and submit with enter doesn't work.
If I edit kernel GRUB's Ubuntu entry and remove these specific lines:

load_video
gfxmode ...

and remove following from kernel commandline: splash $vt.handoff

it boots in text mode, I am able to enter keyphrase and it boots just
fine.

[Bug 1653361] Re: [Asus E502SA] Suspend/resume triggers random hang

2017-01-01 Thread Janne Heikkinen
This computer is only two and half weeks old and Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS with
the kernels mentioned in comment #3 is the only release I've tested.
I've got dual boot with Windows 10 and on the Windows side
suspend/resume works without hangs.

[Bug 1582496] Re: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL failures during Ubuntu 16.04 bootup

2017-01-01 Thread mickEDK
As of 30 Dec 2016 when I did my latest s/w update I still see the same CRITICAL
error messages in syslog, BUT to make a frozen application window close, I now
only have to use the Alt-Tab switcher
instead of, previously when I had to momentarily press the power-reset button
- progress of a sort.
