It's true that Linux 3.4 is currently the baseline kernel for Ubuntu userspace because that was the kernel used in various Android BSPs for Ubuntu Phone enablement, but that is not a requirement going forward. There's no expectation of compatibility between Ubuntu userspace and arbitrary third-party SoC kernels, and even if there were, this is a very niche use case (kerberos-authenticated NFS clients) and it's been agreed that the bug is in the kernel. We shouldn't feel obligated to carry a workaround for a bug in kernels we don't ship. > Dropping the patch can also cause failure on systems passing -e as an > option thus we may need to keep the -e option at least as a noop for > some time. I don't think this is a requirement at all. This is a non-default option, and the removal of the option will happen only as part of a release upgrade, the point at which the behavior of the system with regard to config handling is not expected to remain consistent. I would say that at most, this should be a Debian.NEWS entry. > Because of the reasons above I kept the patch for the merge and I think > it would be reasonable to keep it. [Bug 1613264] Re: Virt-manager Spice console not working
Hi, thanks for the ping I didn't see the bug before. For me things worked right out of the box, but I could reproduce by uninstalling the gir1 package that was mentioned before. Therefore I can somewhat confirm the issue but IMHO it is not that much a bug, let me explain why. I went back and checked why it worked for me out of the box and the package was installed at first and it was driven by correct dependencies. $ aptitude why gir1.2-spice-client-gtk-3.0 --show-summary Packages requiring gir1.2-spice-client-gtk-3.0: virt-manager So the packaging already has a valid dependency to make this work. Since many or rather most common virt-manager tasks work I think "recommends" is the right dependency in general. We would need to check why you had it not installed, as by default recommends are installed. Maybe you had the packages from the image which can leave out some recommends to keep image size down? Therefore I wanted to ask how you installed virt-manager? - was it without recommends intentionally then this is not really a bug - did it come from other dependencies, images, ... and missed to install the recommends than we should understand and solve that. Setting incomplete until we know how you got virt-manager without the recommended gir1 package. ** Changed in: virt-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1613264 Title: Virt-manager Spice console not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virt-manager/+bug/1613264/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1708292] Re: Please merge nfs-utils 1:1.3.4-2.1 (main) from debian unstable (main)
Based on the linked Debian discussion (LP: #794112 -> Debian bug #648155), I believe that patch 20-ticket-expired-error.patch is irrelevant for Ubuntu releases beyond 12.04 because this behavior was fixed upstream in the kernel in commit eb96d5c97b0825d542e9c4ba5e0a22b519355166 present in kernel 3.10 and later. Do you agree with this conclusion, and should we drop the patch? (I'm not sure that this warrants keeping around the non-upstreamed option to gssd for compatibility) Otherwise this LGTM. ** Changed in: nfs-utils (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1708292 Title: Please merge nfs-utils 1:1.3.4-2.1 (main) from debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-utils/+bug/1708292/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this bug exists in the latest daily build of Kubuntu 17.10 amd64 (downloaded 2017-08-06), both when installing onto a newer UEFI system and when installing onto an older BIOS system. This bug also exist in the latest build of KDE NEON User Edition, which seems to use the same, or very similar, variant of Ubiquity. I haven't tested the latest daily build of Ubuntu, but I can confirm that this bug does NOT exist in Ubuntu 16.04.3 or Ubuntu 17.04. Moreover, this bug does NOT exist in the latest daily build of Ubuntu MATE 17.10 amd64 (downloaded 2017-08-06), and does NOT exist in the latest daily build of Ubuntu Budgie 17.10 amd64 (downloaded 2017-08-06). [Bug 1604750] Re: Byobu not clearing update numbers after updates
@mckub1 I've been running the proposed fix for Ubuntu for about 7 months now. I've only seen it fail to update the updates_available value once during an upgrade. The failure with the proposed fix was running under a virtual instance of Ubuntu on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2016), which screamed through an upgrade. However, I have not seen such a failure since, and clearing the cache manually always fixes it. In general, this issue requires a special race condition to reproduce, since some system configuration are not experiencing it. My older server, which runs on a quad-core AMD Phenom II, was the first to exhibit the issue of failing to update the updates_available value. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604750 Title: Byobu not clearing update numbers after updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/byobu/+bug/1604750/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1604750] Re: Byobu not clearing update numbers after updates
After a few weeks of use, I have to say the fix - [ "/var/lib/apt" -nt "$mycache" ] || [ "/var/lib/apt/lists" -nt "$mycache" ] || [ "/var/log/dpkg.log" -nt "$mycache" ] to the /usr/lib/byobu/updates_available script has worked well for me on two different systems (both Ubuntu 16.04 with HWE). After an apt-get upgrade the notification is sometimes still there - but hitting a few F5's (boybu status updates) or waiting until the status update runs again always clears the notification. Until you solve it you don't need to reboot, you can simply remove the cache file to clear the notification with - rm $BYOBU_RUN_DIR/cache.tmux/updates-available -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604750 Title: Byobu not clearing update numbers after updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/byobu/+bug/1604750/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When prompted I clicked "ok", "continue" or whatever. After a few hours, when that had been long finished, I noticed that I couldn't suspend the computer. Suspend just does nothing (no error message either). Then I noticed that there was this "?" icon in the Launcher. When rolling over it, the tooltip says "Distribution Upgrade". When clicking on it, no window shows up or gets focus. Even in the Alt-Tab list of supposedly open windows, there is one with the same "?" icon, and clicking on it does nothing. So, it seems that the Distribution Upgrade is somehow not responding, and also the window manager and/or Launcher are fundamentally broken if they allow an application to have an active and selected icon in Launcher (and in the Alt+Tab menu) without a corresponding window: that's an inconsistency that shouldn't be possible no matter how broken and buggy an application is. Upgrading stuff is one of the most delicate moments when you most need the system to be absolutely rock-solid, yet it's almost when Ubuntu is most unreliable.
