[Bug 1820173] [NEW] Screen brightness buttons change gain instead of brightness
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On my HP stream 11, when I use F2 or F3, the brighter or less bright buttons on my keyboard, Lubuntu changes screen gain, not screen brightness or backlight. Gain will distort colors, but not change the brightness linearly. ** Affects: lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- Screen brightness buttons change gain instead of brightness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1820173 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In qpdfview 0.4.17~beta1+git20180709-2, opening from Firefox, pcmanfm- qt, and terminal, all work without problems. Sure, there's the complaint about the icon, but that's not particularly surprising. [Bug 1824588] Re: Ubuntu Disco boots to or logs out to black screen
Slight change in behavior testing a fresh install of 20190413.2 - if installed with auto-login switched on logout did load and give the expected choices of Ubuntu and Ubuntu w/Wayland. But if auto-login is turned off I still get a black screen on reboot. I suspect that gdm3 is not even loading because I've tried blindly opening a tty, logging in as root, and sudo reboot but nothing happens. Once again just installing lightdm (I haven't tried the old unity- greeter) gives me a working machine. By looking at the changelog nothing has changed in gdm3 so I'm unsure why the logout behavior would have improved with a fresh install?? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1824588 Title: Ubuntu Disco boots to or logs out to black screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1824588/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1802501] Re: Openbox shortcuts involving the Windows/Meta/Super key conflict with the use of that key to open the menu in lxqt-globalkeys
** Description changed: - Resize window to 50% of screen no longer working since 18.10. It did - work in 17.10 and 18.04. + In 18.10, we made use of the fact that lxqt-globalkeys can define the + Super key by itself to open the menu. This had no effect on any Super + key combinations defined in lxqt-globalkeys. Unfortunately, this had the + negative consequence of essentially disabling all of the key + combinations that used the Super key as defined by Openbox. - Configuration is done properly: + Luckily the workaround is simple: remove the definition for the Super + key. [Bug 1824216] Re: Linux 5.0 black screen on boot, display flickers (i915 regression with certain laptop panels)
I've compiled a mainline build from here: https://kernel.ubuntu.com /~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.0.7/. I applied all the Ubuntu patches as well as the patch from here: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/296411/ Raw patch download here: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/296411/raw/ And things are working correctly again. It looks like Intel devs have cherry picked this fix into intel-drm-fixes, so hopefully this gets into mainline 5.0.8 and eventually trickles down to the Ubuntu kernels. If possible it would be great to manually apply this patch to the release kernel for 19.04 so people won't have problems installing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1824216 Title: Linux 5.0 black screen on boot, display flickers (i915 regression with certain laptop panels) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1824216/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1822394] Re: [Dell BIOSes dated 27 Mar 2019] laptop keyboard & touchpad not working at gdm screen after boot
OK, after compiling 5.0.7 mainline + Ubuntu Patches + this patch from here (https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/296411/) to fix the link training issue for my laptop panel, I am able to boot with modesetting. Now I *am* noticing the problem. As others have suggested, bending back the laptop panel on it's hinge "resets" the keyboard and trackpad, then I can bend it back to a normal position and everything starts working. [Bug 1776748] Re: Duplicated nm-applet (network tray icon) on panel
** Description changed: Version: Lubuntu 18.04 What happen: On launching desktop there are two network tray icons depending on how fast you started it. What is expected: To have only one network tray icon whatever the way the desktop is started. Description: The miniapplication indicator's preference have two options: sound menu and application's indicator, the last show the network icon, as well as other indicators (I use Clipit and Multiload), so if unchecked it will hide those as well besides the network one. There is another tray panel for notification area, bringing energy icon, and network again. This panel has no preference, so, if disabled will hide both icons. I noticed that depending on how fast you boot your desktop, or if you installed with the option not to ask the password on login enabled, it may, sometimes, appear to be correct, with one single network icon. If nm-applet is killed and then relaunched it seems to fix the problem, but it's a workaround, it should not be the default behaviour. + + The real solution: remove the indicataor applet from the panel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776748 Title: Duplicated nm-applet (network tray icon) on panel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-default-settings/+bug/1776748/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

An update on this. I installed kernel 5.0, but the same issue occured. I did notice that my wi-fi can be re-activated using the keyboard wireless switch (Fn-Wifi). I have 2 wi-fi networks available, the normal one and the 5G one. I had been using the 5G one, but switched to use the normal one. My wi-fi came back up, and resumes ok after being in standby. I re-booted using the kernel 5.1.rc4, and it works ok as above. I don't remember trying the physical wi-fi function key before, so it is possible it would have worked in the Ubuntu current mainline kernel 4.18, which I will test next. Sorry for the spam, last post for now I promise! Reading this bug report more closely, it does appear different than the bug I am encountering. [Bug 1824669] [NEW] Live boot fails legacy boot Kubuntu 19.04
Public bug reported: Attempted to Live Boot 2 different legacy Dell laptops (Dell Vostro 1720 and Dell XPS M1530). Boot process hangs on the "Kubuntu 19.04 ." screen. Both laptops have NVidia cards, but unsure if NVidia cards have any bearing on the boot. Both laptops had Kubuntu 18.10 installed and have never had an issue with live booting over the last 10 years. [Bug 1821820] Re: Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset
I just tested with a fresh install of 19.04 (booted up with nomodeset and installed). After installation I confirmed I was running 5.0.0-11.12, but the laptop panel link training issue is still present (Dell XPS 9575) causing a black screen on boot. The only way to boot is with nomodeset as a kernel boot parameter. Note: as a side issue it was virtually impossible to bring up the grub menu now in 19.04 (I think because the timeout is set to zero). I had to make sure to chroot into the newly installed system (after installing) and then edit the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file and manually edit the timeout value. I thought that the this Ubuntu bug was referring to this bug (REGRESSION: black screen with linux 5.0 when starting X) https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109959), but perhaps it's referencing another issue entirely? Not sure, but either way the failed link training bug still appears to be present with 5.0.0-11.12 causing black screens on bootups with certain laptop panels. Reading through that thread on bugs.freedesktop.org, Intel realized the problem was caused by certain laptop panels not reporting their specifications correctly (Dell XPS systems appear affected, but other laptops will most likely also be affected), so the code they added to optimize the link (fast and narrow vs. slow and wide) would cause certain laptop panels to never display anything with modesetting. Towards the end of the thread to posted a 5.0 backport patch which completely removes the link optimizations, https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/296411/. Based on the Ubuntu kernel changelog I'm not sure exactly what patch was reverted. My guess is it's for another issue entirely. I'll probably try to compile the Ubuntu kernel with their the freedesktop.org backport patch applied and report back. I can also post my dmeg here for reference. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #109959 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109959 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1821820 Title: Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1821820/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1788018]
An update: The problem I reported in January went away on its own after a few weeks of having the problem every single day when I booted each morning. I was installing Ubuntu software updates when they became available during that time. There is something going on during boot that causes this problem. "my speculation" is that I suspect a timing issue with the way things are initialized during boot up that leads to the problem. Some strange timing issue is occurring which causes systemd-udevd to fall into an infinite loop (continuously looking for something or to be notified about an action completion) and drive one of the processor cores to 100%. When a new kernel was installed or something was done to change initialization activity during boot the problem went away because the timing problem that created it was changed. I believe that some kind of race condition may be at the root of the problem. >From my earlier search on the problem symptoms, it seems that when systemd-udevd isn't working correctly you can get numerous confusing symptoms that mysteriously go away when the something changes timing conditions during boot. Since the problem is in the kernel then it effects other systems besides Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788018 Title: udevd keeps binding and unbinding some usb device und uses all cpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1788018/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1782579] Re: nm-tray is missing a native Qt "Edit Connections" or "Connection Information" menu
** Description changed: - When clicking "Edit Connections" or "Connection Information" when right- - clicking the nm-tray applet, nothing pops up. [Bug 1824665] [NEW] Disconnects from WiFi (SSID)
Private bug reported: [Impact] I am working with several programs at the same time. Like the web browser, Transmission, and others. And it has happened to me twice today. The led of my USB Wifi adapter is always on and there is no packet transfer. Then the NetworkManager asks me for the password. Suggesting me in the small window with hidden characters. Press 'OK' and ask me again. 'I forget' the password and add it again. And I do not accept it either. I had to change the USB Wifi adapter several times in USB ports. And suddenly it works again. [Test Case] - Turn on the Notebook - Open programs that use WiFi intensely (Transmission) - Wait a few hours - Internet traffic is blocked - NetworkManager requests the password of the SSID that I use - Login password - Does not accept the password - I forgot SSID data - Context the SSID that I use - Ask for a password again - Does not accept Password - Change USB ports with my WiFi USB adapter - And after a few minutes, it is correctly connected again. [Bug 1787734] Re: LXQt Arc theme + Breeze widgets hides menu scroll bar when searching
** Summary changed: - Lubuntu Arc theme + Breeze widgets hides menu scroll bar when searching + LXQt Arc theme + Breeze widgets hides menu scroll bar when searching ** Description changed: STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Click the menu 2. While not highlighting any menu item, type a 3. Mouse over the results 4. Use the scroll wheel to move down a screen Note there are additional results despite no scroll bar being displayed. Two idiosyncracies regarding #2: 1. This works in English. If you have another language, especially one that does not use Latin characters, you will certainly want to use a different character. 2. The important thing is that you have a set of results that are greater than the maximum number of entries to display. To see that, right click on the menu button and click "Configure Application Menu" and then look at the value for "Maximum visible items," which defaults to 10. EXPECTED RESULTS A scroll bar should be visible. You'll notice one is if you use, for example, the Ambience LXQt theme. ACTUAL RESULTS The scroll bar is entirely invisible. NOTES Looks like this is in Ambience: #MainMenu QScrollBar::handle { background-color: palette(highlighted-text); color: palette(highlighted-text); } but there does not seem to be something similar in our theme. [Bug 1824661] [NEW] Nvidia issues with 19.04 and XPS 15 9750 GTX 1050 Ti Mobile
Public bug reported: Hello. I am having issues consistently with this laptop and the Nvidia drivers in 19.04. I have tested this on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, and Ubuntu MATE. This is with both the recommended 418 driver as well as 390. Today I tried installing the latest daily of Ubuntu MATE with the proprietary driver option on my Dell XPS 15 9570 with Nvidia GP107M (GeForce GRX 1050 Time Mobile). Boots to blank screen that flashes a couple times. Can't get to tty. Reboot, editing grub to include nomodeset. Boots to underscore character in the top left. I can get tty at least. 418 driver is installed. Looking at logs but nothing seems obvious. If there's anything I can do to help with this please let me know. Thanks! [Bug 1796861] [NEW] Lubuntu 18.04.1 Crashes Spontaneously
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Starting from 08.10.2018 I experience spontaneous crashes in Lubuntu 18.04.1 (two crashes in the last 2 days). I can't associate it with any steps from my side. Error reporting dialog may open when I use browser or when I use leafpad. If I press "Show Details" dialog closes without any response. So I started pressing "Send" in hope it will report the problem successfully. A screenshot of the error reporting dialog is attached. I see nothing suspicious in dmesg or syslog. Here is the tail of dmesg: [ 73.615416] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlp2s0: link becomes ready [ 211.167846] perf: interrupt took too long (2513 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 79500 [ 446.155101] perf: interrupt took too long (3144 > 3141), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 63500 [ 819.275678] perf: interrupt took too long (3942 > 3930), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50500 [ 1973.217158] perf: interrupt took too long (4946 > 4927), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 40250 Here is the tail of /var/log/syslog: Oct 9 16:01:14 LINUX systemd[1]: Started Run anacron jobs.
