[Bug 1885246] [NEW] Desktop freezes when moving window fast to other desktop
Public bug reported: For a long time sometimes my desktop freezes suddenly and it took me a long time to find when. It turns out sometimes the desktop freezes when I move a window fast from one desktop to another, normally I would move it to the right. OS is Ubuntu 18.04 and the issue occurs (as far as I remember) with the Open Source drivers and the AMD drivers. When using some default setting/driver the issue does not occur, but then screen updates are very slow. I am using an MSI H81M-P33 motherboard, processor i5-4460, AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series (according to AMD driver). Monitor is AOC 1920x1080. I tried many things, like different kernal versions and different drivers. The currently installed AMD drivers don't work with the 5.3 kernel. I did not recently use something like kernel 5.0, so I don't know if the issue is solved in later kernels. I found some similar reports, but they all or mostly seem to relate to laptops. While writing this report my desktop crashed again and I was not moving a window, but just resizing it from the top down. I can access the system through ssh and just changed the drivers from AMD pro to AMD open source. Not sure what the effect is. More details available if needed. I would appreciate this would be solved, as it is pretty annoying to restart my computer several times a day and sometimes losing work. [Bug 1885006] Re: Search Service broken on Ubuntu Nightly builds
Rico, as we said in the original comment, that patch is no longer necessary. The original issue that caused that to be necessary is now fixed (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1623597). Distribution engines are now loaded first, marked as builtin/app- provided. Worst case, removing that patch completely might cause a few errors on the console about an engine already being installed the first time a user upgrades from a version before 76. However that error should have no user impact. If you don't remove it now you should at least mark it for removing in a release or two as it isn't necessary. If you find it is still necessary, please let me know and we can take a look at it. ** Bug watch added: Mozilla Bugzilla #1623597 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1623597 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885006 Title: Search Service broken on Ubuntu Nightly builds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1885006/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1884455] Re: pulseaudio creates /root/.config/pulse/ before zfs-mount.service can mount the /root dataset
That is a very good observation about not having to be on startup!! After I disabled both vmware.service and virtualbox.service, I cleaned-up: delete the '/root' and then make sure to mount it from the zfs dataset. Then I shutdown the system yesterday evening (2020-06-25). When I started the system this morning (2020-06-26): I saw that again the zfs dataset could not be mounted because a '/root' already exists, this time with an empty ".cache" folder in it. So it seems you were right about the vwmware or virtualbox that they use pulseaudio as root. But that is not the real issue: problem is with the ".cache" folder which is created at shutdown 'after' the zfs dataset is unmounted, just like you said. I'm not sure how to investigate what happens at shutdown, but I'll try to find out. Meanwhile it's clear this not a pulseaudio issue ==> this ticket should be closed (I'm not sure if I can do that, or you or someone else needs to do it). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes. Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with the formerly working configuration. But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state. Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart. Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete. Depending on your particular case there are two solutions: - either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it. - Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting the service will work. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: mysql-8.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885120 Title: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.20-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-8.0/+bug/1885120/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1882671] Re: unbalanced UEFI TPL manipulations in iPXE with DOWNLOAD_PROTO_HTTPS enabled
I beg your pardon Lazlo, but one more question on CONFIG=qemu. Since it was introduced config=QEMU was exported for efi and legacy roms. But it seems for legacy roms like 82540em.rom CONFIG=qemu being set or not doesn't make a difference. I I just look at src/config/qemu/* vs src/config/ there is a massive difference and I see it showing up in the build log, so the export has "some" effect. [Bug 1875459] Re: System hangs when loading google maps on chrome with navi AMD GPU
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection? First, find the last good kernel (v5.6.5 in this case) and the first bad kernel version from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ . Then, $ sudo apt build-dep linux $ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git $ cd linux $ git bisect start $ git bisect good $(the good version you found) $ git bisect bad $(the bad version found) $ make localmodconfig $ make -j$(nproc) deb-pkg LOCALVERSION=-bisect-$(git log -1 --pretty=format:%h) $ sudo dpkg -i ../linux-image-*.deb ../linux-headers-*.deb After installing the newly built kernel, then reboot with it. If the issue still happens, $ git bisect bad Otherwise, $ git bisect good Repeat to "make -j$(nproc) deb-pkg " until you find the commit that causes the regression. Use `git bisect log` to dump bisect history. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875459 Title: System hangs when loading google maps on chrome with navi AMD GPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875459/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1878225] Re: snapd.seeded.service waits forever (?) to have snaps seeded in LXD on s390x and arm64
AppArmor mount rules have had a lot of issues in the past (and still do) depending on the version of kernel, the parser and the exact rule. If you want an easy way out of this, setting `raw.apparmor=mount,` on your container will almost certainly get such issues to disappear. LXD 4.0 has a number of tweaks in the rules to workaround a bunch of those issues. It's a trick we can do on unprivileged containers as we don't rely on apparmor for security there, for privileged containers, we don't get to do the same and so our policy is quite a bit more strict. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878225 Title: snapd.seeded.service waits forever (?) to have snaps seeded in LXD on s390x and arm64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/auto-package-testing/+bug/1878225/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1882453] Re: [nvidia] GUI blanks after long period of use
Daniel, The attached photo has memory utilization data on the Nivida GPU on typical use. I'll try to figure out how to force the problem on demand. I believe its related to an application I'm using, however the problem has not returned and I've updated the driver a few times already. Thanks Daniel, Chris Morales On 6/15/20 21:58, Daniel van Vugt wrote: > Thanks. [Bug 1885239] [NEW] Freeze after upgrading 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS with NVIDIA's driver.
Public bug reported: After upgrading 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS X started to freeze at the login when using NVIDIA's driver 440.82 or 440.100. When investigating log files, the following was found in Xorg.0.log: "(EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to acquire modesetting permission." To prevent the freeze, adding kernel command line parameter "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" was required. Nouveau driver had already been blacklisted, as it has never been stable on the computer in question. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: jamse 1570 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: jamse 1570 F pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=346c2d17-3996-4471-8dbd-02abeb7c4798 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-07-03 (724 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180426) IwConfig: enp5s0no wireless extensions. enp6s0no wireless extensions. lono wireless extensions. [Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape
I also logged https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics- drivers-340/+bug/1876551 about nvidia-340 drivers having the same problem (won't remember the config). My workaround is a .desktop file that calls xrandr with my desired parameters I configured with nvidia tool and then dumped out with xrandr. ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874567 Title: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1874567/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1884754] Re: Fractional scaling not persisted in VMware Player
Thanks for pointing that out. That sounds relevant to bug 1885026 and this one... In the case of this bug it explains why the fractional scaling value is not persisted -- because the virtual monitor resolution has changed. Mutter considers that a different display configuration and so won't keep any old settings from it. You can see this as a separate block in your ~/.config/monitors.xml ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Triaged ** Summary changed: - Fractional scaling not persisted in VMware Player + Fractional scaling does not persist across reboots in resizable VM windows -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1884754 Title: Fractional scaling does not persist across reboots in resizable VM windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1884754/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
