[Bug 1953223] Re: USB device is not detected during boot, again
I downloaded the following packages: linux-image-unsigned-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb linux-modules-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb And installed them with sudo dpkg -i linux-image- unsigned-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb linux- modules-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb While trying to boot it, it stopped after "Loading initial ramdisk...". It didn't respond to keys in any way. I read that proprietary drivers (nvidia) could cause problems, so I selected Nouveau instead of nvidia from "Software & updates" -> "Additional drivers". This removed the nvidia-driver-460 package. Then I reinstalled the mainline kernel. But still it wouldn't go any further in the boot. (Kernels 5.4.0-89 and 5.11.0-36 still booted.) Re: [Bug 1901470] Re: [i915] HDMI monitor's native resolution (EDID detailed mode) not available, defaults to 1080p instead
Hi Daniel, Thanks for the help and the quick response. I don't see any marking on the HDMI cable I'm using so I'm guessing it isn't one a high quality one. So, I played around with the refresh rates and got it to work at a lower refresh rate: xrandr --addmode HDMI-2 2560x1440_24.00 xrandr --output HDMI-2 --mode 2560x1440_24.00 xrandr --newmode "2560x1440_24.00" 113.75 2560 2648 2904 3248 1440 1443 1448 1463 -hsync +vsync This ties in with the poor quality cable idea. [Bug 1901470] Re: [i915] HDMI monitor's native resolution (EDID detailed mode) not available, defaults to 1080p instead
I'm guessing a common cause of this bug is low quality HDMI cables. If you're stuck at 1080p then that suggests the cable is only HDMI 1.2. To achieve 1440p at 60Hz you will need an HDMI 1.4 cable. And to achieve 2160p (4K) at 60Hz you will need an HDMI 2.0 cable AND a modern GPU to plug it into. 3K and 5K requirements are somewhere in the middle depending on the vertical resolution of the monitor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Refresh_frequency_limits_for_standard_video If you're shopping for a new monitor then it's best to find one with DisplayPort (or USB-C) which doesn't have quite as severe limitations as HDMI does. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901470 Title: [i915] HDMI monitor's native resolution (EDID detailed mode) not available, defaults to 1080p instead To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1901470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1948764] Re: Fail to pass suspend/resume test
I think we're talking past each other again. I believe you when you say that this update will not cause a regression for users of the Xilinx desktop image who have not edited the configuration in /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config The issue we, on the SRU team, are concerned about are the two caveats there: 1) Users of the *Xilinx desktop image*, and 2) Who haven't edited the configuration. The xf86-video-armsoc-endlessm package is in the Ubuntu archive, not just the Xilinx images, and the guarantees we try to provide for packages in the archive is that updates will not break anything that currently works. My understanding is that, currently, a user of a Xilinx board could have built their own images from packages in the Ubuntu archive and not include the metapackage containing the /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config configuration, and this would work. Also, a user of the Xilinx image who chose to edit /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config and remove “needs_root_rights = yes” would currently have a working system. My understanding is that this update would result in both of the above cases failing to work. *This* is what we are concerned about. It's possible that we need a dedicated policy for volatile hardware- enablement packages like this, both so that we can process them more quickly for you and so that users are made aware that these specific packages do not have the usual stability guarantees associated with the Ubuntu archive. If that seems like a good idea, the next step on that would probably be to start a discussion on ubuntu-devel@. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948764 Title: Fail to pass suspend/resume test To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-video-armsoc-endlessm/+bug/1948764/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1954713] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 (manual / autoinstall) language pack not installed despite chosen language
I am coming from Ubuntu 18 netboot/server image and in my d-i setup i defined the language and also the desktop-package and everything got applied. Sorry, but I am confused right here. Don't get me wrong, but if I am able to chose the language, within the installer and it doesn't get applied at all (and is just a visual thing during the installer), there is something working wrong as I would expect this to be installed. Maybe I'm the only person on this. But if nothing gets installed I don't need a different installer language available. There is also no hint that the language selection on the very first screen is only for the installer itself. So I would definitely assume that this will be applied properly, everywhere. I resorted to manually install the packages mentioned above. How to properly use `check-language-support`, can I use this in packages as an extra line per `check-language-support -l LANG` ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1954713 Title: Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 (manual / autoinstall) language pack not installed despite chosen language To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/1954713/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1954719] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 autoinstall - User not available until reboot
Ah, I see, though it doesn't make sense. If cloud-init does the job the installer did not finish his work in my opinion. Either the system is ready or not. Since you consider the system as installed at the last stage, late- commands, there is probably nothing I can do about it. But could you give me a hint into the right direction then? @ddstreet yep I've checked that ( [:1] or something else ) This issue is only happening when back storage is LVM. So I suspected that it is underlying issue. and compared libraries in maas snap, then I found out libreadline patch attached in this LP. ( as libradline is related to running command ) But I still can't find original libreadline reproducer or link between maas and libreadline yet. [Bug 1954340] Re: Fan stopped working after firmware upgrade
I got the problem resolved. It had two files in it. [Bug 1949643] Re: iptables-persistent unconditionally drops existing iptables rules
** Description changed: [Impact] The iptables-persistent plugins/{15-ip4tables,25-ip6tables} use ip[6]tables-restore without --noflush unconditionally. This doesn't play along well with ufw, which starts before netfilter-persistent typically, and gets its rules flushed. This makes `ufw status` return that ufw is disabled, which is misleading, as `ufw.service` is enabled and ufw actually loaded all its rules correctly (but they were flushed later.) Some images ship iptables-persistent rules, thus are subject to this issue if ufw is used. [Workaround] Disable the netfilter-persistent.service unit, after rules have been migrated to ufw. [Fix] + Add options IP[6]TABLES_RESTORE_NOFLUSH (disabled by default) + to `/etc/default/netfilter-persistent` to allow not flushing + existing ip[6]tables rules. + Proposed in Debian bug #998416 [1], Salsa Merge Request [2]. [Test Steps] - See the Debian bug. + See commment #14 (based on the Debian bug.) + + [Regression Potential] + + Regressions would manifest when netfilter-persistent.service + starts/loads rules, probably in the form of failures to run + ip[6]tables-restore or incorrectly (not) flushing rules. + + Note: there is _no_ behavior change is by default, so users + have to opt-in, which should reduce the chances/numbers of + potential regressions. + + [Links] [1] https://bugs.debian.org/998416 [2] https://salsa.debian.org/debian/iptables-persistent/-/merge_requests/3 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1949643 Title: iptables-persistent unconditionally drops existing iptables rules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iptables-persistent/+bug/1949643/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
