[Bug 1949412] Re: Upgrade fwupd for Atomic Docking Support

2021-12-14 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
per request by the customer, we'd like to support the atomic docking in
focal by using fwupd 1.5.13

AI: wait 1.7.x land in jammy.

plus

Plan 1:
- land 1.5.13 in impish.
- SRU 1.5.13 in focal.

OR
Plan 2:
- SRU 1.7.X in impish.
- SRU 1.7.X in focal.

If we want to use the same fwupd-efi binary across all releases, we need
to go plan 2.

[Bug 1953223] Re: USB device is not detected during boot, again

2021-12-14 Thread Jarkko Toivonen
I downloaded the following packages:
linux-image-unsigned-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb
linux-modules-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb

And installed them with sudo dpkg -i linux-image-
unsigned-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb
linux-
modules-5.16.0-051600rc5-generic_5.16.0-051600rc5.202112121931_amd64.deb

While trying to boot it, it stopped after "Loading initial ramdisk...".
It didn't respond to keys in any way. I read that proprietary drivers
(nvidia) could cause problems, so I selected Nouveau instead of nvidia
from "Software & updates" -> "Additional drivers". This removed the
nvidia-driver-460 package. Then I reinstalled the mainline kernel. But
still it wouldn't go any further in the boot. (Kernels 5.4.0-89 and
5.11.0-36 still booted.)

Am I doing something wrong or is the problem in the kernel?

Re: [Bug 1901470] Re: [i915] HDMI monitor's native resolution (EDID detailed mode) not available, defaults to 1080p instead

2021-12-14 Thread jerry collins
Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the help and the quick response.

I don't see any marking on the HDMI cable I'm using so I'm guessing it
isn't one a high quality one.

So, I played around with the refresh rates and got it to work at a lower
refresh rate:

xrandr --addmode HDMI-2 2560x1440_24.00
xrandr --output HDMI-2 --mode 2560x1440_24.00
xrandr --newmode "2560x1440_24.00" 113.75 2560 2648 2904 3248 1440 1443
1448 1463 -hsync +vsync

This ties in with the poor quality cable idea.

Thanks again for the assistance,
Jerry.

[Bug 1954762] Re: When selecting or navigating text with CTRL + LEFT ARROW or RIGHT, or even just mouse clicking within text, the cursor jumps backwards and forwards erratically

2021-12-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't seem to reproduce the issue in those apps, on Xorg with
fractional scaling. Although I am using 22.04.

Does the same happen in a Wayland session?

Does the same happen if you use a USB keyboard?

It seems to affect different apps. Certainly it affects Mozilla Firefox,
Gnome Text Editor Gedit, a Java-based translation app I use called
OmegaT, and Microsoft Office Word and Excel 2006 running under Wine32.

I have this problem in all our environments.

I see this in the above quote from the patch"As we require a running

Since when? We don't use winbindd and never havethis worked until
this week.

[Bug 1901470] Re: [i915] HDMI monitor's native resolution (EDID detailed mode) not available, defaults to 1080p instead

2021-12-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm guessing a common cause of this bug is low quality HDMI cables. If
you're stuck at 1080p then that suggests the cable is only HDMI 1.2. To
achieve 1440p at 60Hz you will need an HDMI 1.4 cable. And to achieve
2160p (4K) at 60Hz you will need an HDMI 2.0 cable AND a modern GPU to
plug it into. 3K and 5K requirements are somewhere in the middle
depending on the vertical resolution of the monitor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Refresh_frequency_limits_for_standard_video

If you're shopping for a new monitor then it's best to find one with
DisplayPort (or USB-C) which doesn't have quite as severe limitations as
HDMI does.

What kinds of tests are we hoping for, here? From people who never
backed out the broken glibc manually? (This might be a difficult group

Or from just anyone, to try to find out if the revert and new fixes were
done correctly?

Thanks

[Bug 288964] Re: sudo does not work with unbinding usb interface from usbhid driver

ALinuxUser, Xiaofan Chen's example was unbinding the usbhid driver via
the /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usbhid/unbind control file -- yours is using
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/unbind instead. You probably have to use the
control file that corresponds to the driver your device is using. (Check

[Bug 1948764] Re: Fail to pass suspend/resume test

2021-12-14 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I think we're talking past each other again.

I believe you when you say that this update will not cause a regression
for users of the Xilinx desktop image who have not edited the
configuration in /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config

The issue we, on the SRU team, are concerned about are the two caveats there:
1) Users of the *Xilinx desktop image*, and
2) Who haven't edited the configuration.

The xf86-video-armsoc-endlessm package is in the Ubuntu archive, not
just the Xilinx images, and the guarantees we try to provide for
packages in the archive is that updates will not break anything that
currently works.

My understanding is that, currently, a user of a Xilinx board could have
built their own images from packages in the Ubuntu archive and not
include the metapackage containing the /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config
configuration, and this would work.

Also, a user of the Xilinx image who chose to edit
/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config and remove “needs_root_rights = yes” would
currently have a working system.

My understanding is that this update would result in both of the above
cases failing to work. *This* is what we are concerned about.

It's possible that we need a dedicated policy for volatile hardware-
enablement packages like this, both so that we can process them more
quickly for you and so that users are made aware that these specific
packages do not have the usual stability guarantees associated with the
Ubuntu archive. If that seems like a good idea, the next step on that
would probably be to start a discussion on ubuntu-devel@.

[Bug 1954713] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 (manual / autoinstall) language pack not installed despite chosen language

2021-12-14 Thread Flauschie
I am coming from Ubuntu 18 netboot/server image and in my d-i setup i
defined the language and also the desktop-package and everything got
applied.

Sorry, but I am confused right here. Don't get me wrong, but if I am
able to chose the language, within the installer and it doesn't get
applied at all (and is just a visual thing during the installer), there
is something working wrong as I would expect this to be installed. Maybe
I'm the only person on this. But if nothing gets installed I don't need
a different installer language available.

There is also no hint that the language selection on the very first
screen is only for the installer itself. So I would definitely assume
that this will be applied properly, everywhere.

I resorted to manually install the packages mentioned above. How to
properly use `check-language-support`, can I use this in packages as an
extra line per `check-language-support -l LANG` ?

[Bug 1954719] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 autoinstall - User not available until reboot

2021-12-14 Thread Flauschie
Ah, I see, though it doesn't make sense. If cloud-init does the job the
installer did not finish his work in my opinion. Either the system is
ready or not.

Since you consider the system as installed at the last stage, late-
commands, there is probably nothing I can do about it. But could you
give me a hint into the right direction then? I read about commands to
be executed as first boot but for my life I cannot find it. Is it
bootcmd or runcmd but those are not in the user-data section? Or is the
term user-data used here for two different things?

[Bug 1921658] Re: Can't compose kvm host with lvm storage on maas 2.8.4

2021-12-14 Thread Seyeong Kim
@ddstreet

yep I've checked that ( [:1] or something else )

This issue is only happening when back storage is LVM.

If it is not lvm, it is ok, only with lvm, pexepct returns weird string

2021-03-17 20:43:34 stderr: [error] Arguments: ([' ',
'<3ef-46ca-87c8-19171950592f --pool maas_guest_lvm_vg', "error: command
'attach-disk' doesn't support option --pool"],)

I've checked MAAS code first at the time, but pexpect related code
showed me the same result everywhere.

So I suspected that it is underlying issue. and compared libraries in
maas snap, then I found out libreadline patch attached in this LP. ( as
libradline is related to running command )

But I still can't find original libreadline reproducer or link between
maas and libreadline yet.

I've asked this to libreadline's maintainer ( this patch's auther) but
he also doesn't know, and the mentioned that this could be a side effect
of patch.

Thanks

[Bug 1954340] Re: Fan stopped working after firmware upgrade

2021-12-14 Thread One
I got the problem resolved. I went to Lenovo's Website:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-
laptops/thinkpad-p15s-gen-2-type-20w6-20w7/20w6/20w6001nus/downloads/driver-
list/component?name=BIOS%2FUEFI

And got the firmware from there (version 1.46). It had two files in it.
'N34ET46W.cab' said it was already installed and 'ThinkPad-
EmbeddedControllerFirmware-1.37.cab' installed and when it booted back
up the fan was working again.

[Bug 1954713] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 (manual / autoinstall) language pack not installed despite chosen language

2021-12-14 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
The server installer has never (to my understanding anyway) installed
language packs. Once you've installed ubuntu-desktop you can use 'check-
language-support' to find the packages you should install for the
configured locales.

The new subiquity-based desktop installer will do this by default, fwiw.

[Bug 1954844] [NEW] lxqt-panel 0.17.1 is leaking memory, v1.0.0 fixed it

2021-12-14 Thread Tong Sun
Public bug reported:

The culprit might as well be the same as reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-panel/+bug/1881397

The reason I'm opening this, according to upstream, where I initially reported
the problem,
https://github.com/lxqt/lxqt/issues/2154
is that the problem has been fixed in the newest version.

So upgrading lxqt-panel from 0.17.1 to 1.0.0 should be able to fix the
issue.

Please upgrade lxqt-panel to 1.0.0.

Duplicating my initially reported problem (at
https://github.com/lxqt/lxqt/issues/2154) below:

[Bug 1949643] Re: iptables-persistent unconditionally drops existing iptables rules

2021-12-14 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  The iptables-persistent plugins/{15-ip4tables,25-ip6tables}
  use ip[6]tables-restore without --noflush unconditionally.

This doesn't play along well with ufw, which starts before
netfilter-persistent typically, and gets its rules flushed.

This makes `ufw status` return that ufw is disabled, which
is misleading, as `ufw.service` is enabled and ufw actually
loaded all its rules correctly (but they were flushed later.)

Some images ship iptables-persistent rules, thus are subject
to this issue if ufw is used.

  [Workaround]

Disable the netfilter-persistent.service unit, after rules
  have been migrated to ufw.

  [Fix]

+ Add options IP[6]TABLES_RESTORE_NOFLUSH (disabled by default)
+ to `/etc/default/netfilter-persistent` to allow not flushing
+ existing ip[6]tables rules.
+
Proposed in Debian bug #998416 [1], Salsa Merge Request [2].

  [Test Steps]

- See the Debian bug.
+ See commment #14 (based on the Debian bug.)
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Regressions would manifest when netfilter-persistent.service
+ starts/loads rules, probably in the form of failures to run
+ ip[6]tables-restore or incorrectly (not) flushing rules.
+
+ Note: there is _no_ behavior change is by default, so users
+ have to opt-in, which should reduce the chances/numbers of
+ potential regressions.

I can see this effect on Debian on kernel 5.10.0-9, and its also a

Also, I've noticed that the messages disappear when the thinkpad_acpi

See this unload/load cycle:

[Bug 1950193] Please test proposed package

2021-12-14 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Robert, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qtbase-opensource-src into focal-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-
src/5.12.8+dfsg-0ubuntu2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1954837] [NEW] FTBFS in armhf: test_rpc fails

2021-12-14 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Public bug reported:

Version 2.0.35-1 is currently stuck in jammy-proposed because the test_rpc
test, run during package build, is failing on armhf:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/573635110/buildlog_ubuntu-jammy-armhf.netopeer2_2.0.35-1_BUILDING.txt.gz

The logs are a bit intertwined, here is my attempt at capturing the output:
2: [ RUN ] test_lock_basic

The same happens in debian:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=netopeer2=i386=2.0.35-1=1637934181=0

I searched upstream briefly at

reported. Will do that next.
