[Bug 60639] Edgy know 2 - Installer does not detect disk partitions
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop, It has a single SATA disk, with existing NTFS and FAT32 partitions and lots of free space. When I boot with my Edgy Knot 2 liveCD and launch the graphical installer, the disk is detected but not any of my existing partitions. The installer shows an empty, non partioned, totally unallocated disk. Curiously, if I launch Nautilius via Places Computer, my NTFS and FAT32 volume labels are shown!! I tried launching the installer in text mode: exactly the same problem. I am disappointed with this, I didn't expect to run into this issue. I also tried a Dapper 6.06.1 liveCD, same results. I hoped that Edgy would fix the problem but so far it didn't. The problem is a bit frustrating, I can't afford wiping the existing partitions. Thanks! ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Edgy know 2 - Installer does not detect disk partitions https://launchpad.net/bugs/60639 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 60639] Re: Edgy know 2 - Installer does not detect disk partitions
Today I tried booting the laptop with Knoppix 5.0.1 (kernel 2.6.17); same results: Knoppix desktop shows icons for all my existing partitions; but when I try to install it to the hard disk, the partitioner (qtparted) does not detect any existing partition, and shows the disk as fully unallocated. This looks like lack of support for this type of disk at the kernel level. :( -- Edgy know 2 - Installer does not detect disk partitions https://launchpad.net/bugs/60639 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69184] gedit error Could not create a backup file when trying to save a file in a VFAT partition
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit I have an edgy (final) fresh install. It detected and mounts on boot my FAT32 drive that I share with windows. I can create and delete files in this partition with no problems with all applications including gedit itself. The problem is, when I try to save the new file again (or to save a file just opened and modified), gedit always gives me an error message: Could not create a backup file while saving /home/ariel/Desktop/MyFolder/mynewtextfile.txt It looks like the backup filename has something in it that is not supported in a vfat partition, or there is some problem with the way ubuntu sets the default permissions In any case, this is annoying. It happened to me previously with Dapper in another machine. Hopefully this can get fixed soon! Note: being a vfat partition, the user:group is set now set to root:root (initially, the group was plugdev but I changed that to see if it fixed my problem; it didn't help at all). [Bug 69184] Re: gedit error Could not create a backup file when trying to save a file in a VFAT partition
Hi Constantine, first thanks a lot for your quick response! On umask: It doesn't look like that option will accept a user number... it seems to be a permission mask for filesystems that don't support builtin unix permissions umask: octal file permissions You can change permissions using the parameter umask. But be aware that it must be the bitmask of permissions that are not present for the mountpoint. It is an octal number, formed like this: * character '0': Indicates that this is an octal number, not decimal. * first digit: owner user permissions * second digit: owner group permissions * third digit: world permissions (every other user on the system) -- gedit error Could not create a backup file when trying to save a file in a VFAT partition https://launchpad.net/bugs/69184 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 204826] Re: Hardy - After rIght click on folders and opening with application, the selected app is not remembered
Yes this is from a clean (blank) Hardy beta install. There is something weird going on. This is on Folders only. First thing I did, was the Open with other app on one of my audio folders. I selected audacious, audacious opened, all right. Now the Open with audacious was not showing up in Nautilus' context menu. Reboots and all, still not showing, I had to use open with other app menu every time. Now per your suggestion above, I tried adding a second app: VLC. Did the Open with other app on my folder and selected VLC. VLC opened. Again, the Open with VLC has NOT been added to nautilus context menu for folders. BUT now Audacious shows up!! What I also notice is that if I right click on a folder and do Properties, then Open With, I can see both Audacious and VLC listed. However only audacious shows up in the context menu. Looks like the latest additon to the Open With menu is lost in the context menu. -- Hardy - After rIght click on folders and opening with application, the selected app is not remembered https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 204960] [NEW] [Hardy] Lirc devinput (linux-input-layer) broken
Public bug reported: Hardy Beta1. Clean install. I have an SAA7134-based board with a remote control that I've been using for long with LIRC, before hardy. Now it seems support for this type of devices is broken. I'll also attach lircd.conf. I noticed that hardware.conf format has changed, and adapted my configuration accordingly. After reboot irw stays mute, it doesn't get any remote keypress. Doing /etc/init.d/lirc stop; and then launching lircd in non-daemon mode gives me (I'm connecting to lircd with irw): $ sudo lircd -n --driver=dev/input --device=/dev/input/event6 lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: you should specify a valid gap value lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: lircd(userspace) ready lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: initializing '/dev/input/event6' lircd-0.8.3pre1[10361]: can't get exclusive access to events comming from `/dev/input/event6' interface Then, nothing happens. The terminal that is on focus will get numeric keys from the remote (because this is a linux-input-layer type device), which also happened in gutsy. But in gutsy, lircd trapped those events and processed them, and sent them to the connected lirc clients (e.g. irw). If you click on the play button, a new small window pops up with the video content, which plays back OK. However the video content should play back embedded in the page. Ubuntu 7.10 and earlier worked fine in this regard, the videos from cbc.ca actually are embedded in the page (same as in windows IE). Further, if in the small window you click the full screen icon (bottom right), the video will go full screen as expected; if in full screen mode you click again in the same icon, instead of the video returning to the embedded page video (or to the small window per the above bug), the video window disappears but the audio keeps playing back. [Bug 204960] Re: [Hardy] Lirc devinput (linux-input-layer) broken
Yes, I know I am way too lazy. So after a little research I came up with a workaround and now my remote is back alive. Following laga's suggestion, you need to put the attached remote.fdi file in /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/20thirdparty/ Also you need to modify the file to match your remote. In the line that reads: match key=info.product string=saa7134 IR (Compro VideoMate TV ...replace the string content with the string corresponding to your device (mine is a Compro videomate card). You can find the proper string to put there by doing: lshal ~/hal-output.txt gedit ~/hal-output.txt ...and then search for saa7134 IR. To confirm, under the same key you should see in hal's output a line that looks like input.device = '/dev/input/event6' (your event number may be different). That was the problem, HAL was locking that device that LIRC needed to use. ** Attachment added: Make HAL ignore the remote control http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13267853/remote.fdi -- [Hardy] Lirc devinput (linux-input-layer) broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Today the final 0.6 version has been released, for gnome 2.22. [Bug 59060] Re: Invest applet renders incorrectly
just to confirm that the invest applet is still broken and nonfunctional under 7.10. Not only it doesn't do anything (it can't be set up, no context menu, no preferences), there is also no way to uninstall it other than the workarounds discussed above. looks like this applet has been been broker for a year or two. sad gnome doesn't provide an option to monitor stocks. most of us don't care a lot about this but it's important for the average joe.
