I am running Feisty Fawn Herd 1 (AMD64), and I'm also having this issue.
The temp fix as listed above: sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin worked for
me.
All apt-related commands would SEGFAULT in this scenario. I kept the
.bin files from /var/cache/apt incase I would need to reproduce this.

This can still be reproduced in the current 11.04 simply by using
caffeine and setting it to Prevent screensaver. So this indeed seems
to be a problem on the notify-osd-side rather than an application error.

I reboot my computer and it seems like the sound setting is not being
saved between reboots. It always is 100%. The slider position is
remembered correctly but the volume level is 100% every startup. Once I
click on the volume, it adjusts correctly.

My initial prognosis of not working on UEFI is incorrect. I think it is

Interesting. This is an ancient bug that probably has a really quick fix or
was already solved. This is actually so old that I have replaced my sound
card with a much better one with awesome drivers. It is possible this was a
