[Bug 806284] Re: nfs-kernel-server fails: hostname "has non-inet addr" on boot, before eth0 comes up

2021-11-16 Thread Daniel Moyne
since installation of Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS (Focal Fossa)20.04 nfs
connection between client and server on my home lan is no more possible
; I removed autofs and firewall before using direct mount command on
client with no success though the export check on server shows
authorization ; everything has been done following the rules for client
and server ; need help to recover proper access

[Bug 1180728] Re: kernel crash

2013-06-14 Thread Daniel Moyne
no my system is still usable as this problem appears once in a while. But as I
keep updating the kernel through the normal updates it may disappear. For me
the main question is :
- When this bug shows up as I have a complete freeze of my computer how to
collect the information for a complete report?

[Bug 856710] Re: KMail2 migration wizard does not work on localized versions of Kubuntu

2011-10-12 Thread Daniel Moyne
In my case it is even more complex as I have used the following line in kmail
setting :
folders[$ie]=${KMAIL_HOME}
where I do set KMAIL_HOME in my ~/.profile.

Apparently the migration script does not follow link or does not take
into account this particular setting !

Now the user does not know where Kmaiul2 is storing mail which is not
acceptable as a user MUST have full control of its own data whatever the
software involved : akondadi, mysql, nepomuk.

Another way to handle migration is this :
- at first use do not migrate now,
- use migration possibility in main menu,
- then move folders wherever you want.

In my case same problem with coexistence of equivalemnt folders like
sent-mail et boîte d'envoi with no possibility to either :
- rename a folder,
- delete it.

[Bug 181476] Re: [boot-internet-gutsy]Slow down when computer is not connected on internet

2008-02-02 Thread Daniel Moyne
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 181475 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181475

For some reason in network setting I added a wrong domain name where
there was a blank field ; this created a stop in the boot procedure (I
had to select the special kernel mode to access a console root mode
otherwise there was no error message displayed on the screen that had
gone from graphics to text mode) ; I fixed it because I remembered the
recent modification ; again there is no reason why a wrong set of
parameters for internet or for network should create such a situation ;
I would expect a boot as a single machine with no network / Internet
connection to allow for a fix in this new status.

[Bug 181470] [kde4-gutsy]bug in installation of some application

2008-01-09 Thread Daniel Moyne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kamera-kde4

When installing some KDE4 application packages such as kamera-kde4 I collect
bug report such as :
E:
/var/cache/apt/archives/kamera-kde4_4%3a3.98.0~svn755919-1ubuntu1~gutsy1~ppa1_amd64.deb:
tentative de remplacement de « /usr/lib/kde4/lib/kde4/kio_kamera.so », qui
appartient aussi au paquet kde4graphics

Is there any fix to at least be able test KDE4 applications for test
before final release

[Bug 181477] [boot-internet-gutsy]Slow down when computer is not connected on internet

2008-01-09 Thread Daniel Moyne
Public bug reported:

I had to move my computer from one location to another one where
internet was not available and consequently I had no more a cable
connected to my network card at the back.

Booting, logging and even running applications in these new transient
conditions was awfully slow ; I do think that we have an architecture
problem making installation of the distribution internet slave for no
valid reasons ; if for some reasons internet is not available it should
not have any major impact on boot (after some time out this could be
understood) but no impact at all on running typical applications such as
Gimp for example.

For your information I am using an Ldap local data base with some users
in this data base but again this data base is not linked to internet
whatsoever.

So this situation may be considered as exceptional (no internet
connection on a distribution where internet link may be parameterized in
different areas) I think a fix must be designed.

** Affects: boot (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 135573] Re: [Gutsy]ati or radeon driver for X300 PCIE video card

2007-12-15 Thread Daniel Moyne
Tormod,
I have to back-up on my statement because installation is misleading ; I
investigated the bug on Internet and found the fix ; I had to remove the
package xserver-xgl though not described by the installator as incompatible
with driver radeon as provided with package xserver-xorg-video-ati.

After doing so and rebooting I had as with Feisty my radeon driver
working with or without compiz with metacity decorator ; it looks even
faster than proprietary driver fglrx which might not be still true
with the new Catalyst drivers not yet packaged ; kde decoartor does not
work cleanly but it can be used.

So you can definetely close my bug report ; sorry again but by principle
I trust the package installator.

[Bug 135573] Re: [Gutsy]ati or radeon driver for X300 PCIE video card

2007-12-10 Thread Daniel Moyne
Sorry for being late in answering you question :
This driver is still buggy whatever ati or radeon setting I use in
xorg.conf :
- without compiz it slows down reaction of desktop,
- with compiz it crashes KDE session.

Consequently I have to go back for fglrx driver (8.37.6) not working
with GoogleEath but working well with compiz.

Tormod :
(1) is free driver known to work with some Atir Radeon cards (mine is (X 300
PCI Express) ?
(2) when can we expect Catalyst new ATI drivers to be packaged for Ubuntu.
Thanks.

[Bug 148458] Re: [Gutsy]Compiz-fusion ati radeon KDE 64 bits

2007-10-10 Thread Daniel Moyne
Sorry but I have to back-up on the statement saying that driver
radeon worked fine because I had not rebooted my system when I
reported this. Apparently with Compiz a simple reload of X server as an
option of the logging application (such as gdm or kdm) is not enough.

A problem that I have noticed : if you install the proprietary driver
with synaptic or with the special feature regarding proprietary drivers,
the ati package is not removed though it is incompatible to get fglrx
driver working properly at least in Gnome ; I think this should be
fixed.

[Bug 148458] Re: [Gutsy]Compiz-fusion ati radeon KDE 64 bits

2007-10-09 Thread Daniel Moyne
With last update of Compiz :
- driver radeon works fine on Gnome on first session automatically set for
Compiz (very fast cube + reflexion) but on quit and new Gniome session again
Gnome is crashing reverting back to logging manager ; this may simply due to a
extra motion not correctly supported

I am still puzzled between vitual horizontal size, virtual vertical size and
number of desktops as it looks like that the horizontal size is adding more
desktops !
- on KDE no way with radeon driver to properly set compiz even when usinh
metacity or emerald

[Bug 148458] [Gutsy]Compiz-fusion ati radeon KDE 64 bits

2007-10-03 Thread Daniel Moyne
Public bug reported:

Compiz-fusion works only in the following conditions :
- with Gnome (automatic setting no compiz --replace action necessary, with KDE
without even trying compiz --replace no way to move quickly the windows making
KDE unusable),
- with fglrx proprietary driver (no way with free drivers radeon or ati
though radeon works fine with Feisty,

In these conditions some extra plugings like the geras inside the cube
do not work but this is less important.

This is with :
- a X300 PCI express Radeon video card,
- compiz 1:0.5.2+git20070928-0ubuntu1
- xorg-driver-fglrx 7.1.0-8.37.6+2.6.22.4-12.4

[Bug 134763] Re: [Feisty]fsck shows a bug on a partition

2007-08-27 Thread Daniel Moyne
Ok I will try to bring more information but I need to understand what is a UUID
:
- is this somehow hardware related to the HD partition and in which case it
will all the time the same whatever the distro,
- or can it be changed from one distro to another one in which case this
sophistication will bring problem when like in my case I want to acces the same
partition from.

Now something else : when installing my new distro fstab is rebuilt to assign
UUID's to selected partitions and even if the UUID assigned in this later case
is different from the one in the current distro there is no reason why data
could not be accessed ; if not we are really facing problems !

Dave,
thanks it fixed the bug as now fglrx driver is loaded correctly ; I do not
know yet whether I have to do :
sudo /usr/bin/restricted-manager

If necessary the best way is to add this command line in the file :
/etc/bash.bashrc
file for example to obtain all users to get benefit of the fix.

Thanks.

[Bug 105834] Re: [Feisty]no way to install kernel 2-6-20-14 on AMD 64 machine

2007-04-26 Thread Daniel Moyne
joorus as expecyted this trick :

$ sudo ln -s /usr/sbin/update-grub.real /sbin/update-grub
does not work on my up-graded FEdgy to Feisty ; by the way where did yo get
this information.

I still think the problem is related to a combination fsck ATA disks as my
updraded distro is installed on SATA HD where Edgy worked fine until I upgraded
; I am on AMD 64 machine and I do not know whether this is also a problem on
i-586 machines with SATA HD.

[Bug 105834] Re: [Feisty]no way to install kernel 2-6-20-14 on AMD 64 machine

2007-04-25 Thread Daniel Moyne
I am processing this answer message from a freshly installed Feisty on
hda1, hda2 and hda3 partitions ; for the time being no way to boot any
kernel from up-dated Edgy installed on sda1, sda3 and sda6 partitions
even with kernel 2.6.17-10 which is left from Edgy ; it is really
difficult to undestand what is going on as after some various tries and
modification as I have related for this past days ; I had a few correct
boot sessions until again the same problems reapear all of them stopping
the boot ; I think now it has to be with fsck not compatible with old
partitions but I am not sure ; I will to try your GRUB solutions though
I do not beleive it is a fix because it has to do only with boot loader
installation and even with LILO I cannot boot ; anyways if you know how
I can apply your fix to my bugged updated Feisty from this current
feisty I will proceed.

Globally on AMD 64 machines it is a real disaster at least on updated Edgy ; I
was really suprised that after reporting bugs from pre-released Feisty I never
got any update when Feisty was released on 19 04 2007 as they had not made any
corrections !
Regards.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After a good installation of Feisty fawn from Edgy with update_manager
everything worked fine until I added some more repositries as feisty backports
to collect some extra codec for amarok to work on streams ; then at one time
Adept notifier proposed an upgrade of 256 packages apparently from typical
repositries ; when rebooting I got this error message which is a joke :
The program 'apt-get' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing
apt-get install apt

I am sending this message from my current Ubuntu Edgy distro ; The one
messed-up is installed in parallele on other partitions but I may get
acces to some log files for developpers as they would request to
unsterstand what is now wrong.

[Bug 105834] Re: [Feisty]no way to install kernel 2-6-20-14 on AMD 64 machine

2007-04-14 Thread Daniel Moyne
I have installed in parallel Feisty from a CD (Beta version) ; in this case
kernel 2-6-20-15 is booting with no problem ; I am really puzzled ; basically
the main difference between the 2 installation is that :
- with upgrade procedure (update_manager) the main / partition (here /dev/sda1
SATA HD) is not reformatted,
- with fresh installation / partition (here /dev/hda1 SATA HD) is reformatted.

With the upgraded distro the only kernel booting sofar is 2-6-17-10 from
Edgy ; any freshsly installed kernel such as 2-6-20-15 may use modules
not compatible with the partition as is ?

What I can try to do is copy /dev/sda1 on another freshly formatted
partition and change accordingly fstab and check whether my upgraded
distro is then bootable with kernel 2-6-20-15.

Some comments on all this would be greatly apreciated.

To be further investigated

[Bug 105729] Re: [apport] package linux-image-2.6.20-14-generic failed to install/upgrade:

2007-04-14 Thread Daniel Moyne
Marco eventually I could download this kernel and make a try : it did
boot but got stuck in the middle of the process with no clear error
message but I had a fair idea about what was wrong from a fresh
installation of Feisty from CD in parallele to this upgraded one ; I
edited fstab and commented all hda* and hdb* partitions out (I recall
that I use the following partitions sda1, sda2 and sda3 on this upgraded
one) ; then I tried to boot again and this time I finally got through
and could access my graphical session successfully.

Then I checked the content of /dev directory and oh surprise there are NO hda*
or hdb* files ; what is funny is that on the Feisty distro mounted from CD in
parallel on the following partitions :
- hda1 (/)
- hda2 (/home)
- hda3(/usr/local)

I have the same problem I mean after the boot there are NO hda* or hdb*
files present ! ; I think here we have a major issue with UDEV and
possible on ide HD.

Keep me posted because I will not make any further tests until I hear
from you.

I will try to switch back to grub and report waht I am to after this new try.

[Bug 105834] Re: [Feisty]no way to install kernel 2-6-20-14 on AMD 64 machine

2007-04-13 Thread Daniel Moyne
Actually there was a grub issue which is unormal as to the installation
of a kernel ; I switched from lilo to grub ; now it starts booting but
stops with no error messages ; the last lines displayed in console do no
help to understand the problem ; I tried to remove and reinstall this
kernel but I am still facing the same issue.

I think I will wait for the next kernel to be proposed as an update and then
decide what to do.
Regards.

This error might be related to a linked package ; for the time bieng the only

but it not entirely compatible with fglrx driver as some typical other
necessary packages are missing.

Note : I have upgraded from Edgy to Feisty by using update-manager -d

[Bug 104182] [Feisty]impossible to access graphic session after main update

2007-04-07 Thread Daniel Moyne
Public bug reported:

Regards.

[Bug 67487] Re: [regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup

2007-02-07 Thread Daniel Moyne
Sorry :

I entirely disagree with your diagnosis :

It has also become confusing because of people like you who obviously
experience a different problem but insist on posting here again and again. It
should have been painfully obvious for you from the beginning, but as it isn't,
I will point it out in detail to you:
 - This bug is only about the ati driver, yet you use the fglrx driver.
 - This bug is only about computers that freeze each and every time, but yours
only freezes occassionally.

On the manifestation of the bug FROM TIME TO TIME on my AMD 64 MACHINE
with RADEON X300 VIDEO CARD it is exactly the same diagnosis : I CANNOT
ACCESS CONSOLE MODE ON BLACK SCREEN.

This is the reason I said it is copnfusing simply because the spectrum
of occurances on that very same diagnosis is very wide !

I tried a live CD from time to time to fix my system and as far as I
know I never experienced the bug though nobody asked me to do so and
anyways the live CD is now a different system compared to my installed
one with plenty of upgrades.

I plan to test Feistry in parallel.

If you think that I have nothing to say about my bug that has been on
from the very beginning of Edgy on #67487 topics you simply tell my so.

[Bug 67487] Re: [regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup

2007-02-05 Thread Daniel Moyne
All this has become very very confusing ! ; can we split bug reports between
i586 machines and AMD 64 machines ; also some people about fix speak about AGP
cards but most of the new ATI video cards are PCIE can we here sort out the
types of video cards ?
Thanks.
