While this bug doesn't affect me anymore, I was asking for a quote from
an authoritative source, not an opinion on what gksu should or should
not do.
To settle the difference of opinion, I've found the relevant text from the man
page:
gksu is a frontend to su and gksudo is a frontend to
Ubuntu 10.10 loads a live GNOME session when the user clicks Quit.

The Ubuntu promise is not mentioned or included in the slideshow. The
Ubuntu promise is excellent and short, and gives a good introduction to
