[Bug 1963719] Re: Sync pagekite 1.5.2.200603-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2022-03-06 Thread François Marier
With respect to the importance of this bug, I would say that it's rather
important and not wishlist. This bug doesn't make the package completely
unusable in jammy (the client still works), but if you wanted to run a
pagekite server on jammy, you can't.

In Debian terms, this would be an RC bug.

2022-03-04 Thread François Marier
Without this fix, pagekite frontends are completely broken (unable to
accept incoming connections) due to Python 3 incompatibilities:

The new version in Debian only contains a single 3-line fix for this
issue: https://salsa.debian.org/freedombox-

[Bug 1893724] Re: safe-rm breaks upgrades from 18.04 to 20.04

2020-11-29 Thread François Marier
I just uploaded safe-rm 1.0.0 to Debian unstable. It was rewritten in
Rust, which means that the interpreter dependency and possible race
condition have been eliminated.

So if you end up adding a conflict on the safe-rm package, please make
it < 1.0.0.

I backported the fix to 18.04 in my PPA:

but I don't have an easy way of testing the 18.04-20.04 upgrade so I'm

[Bug 1893724] [NEW] safe-rm breaks upgrades from 18.04 to 20.04

2020-08-31 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from bionic to focal this weekend and discovered that one of
my packages (safe-rm) can totally break the 20.04 upgrade. Not sure how
reproducible it is (I only upgraded once), but I had to remove safe-rm
before manually restarting the failed upgrade.

It comes down to the fact that safe-rm takes over the rm command and
unfortunately is written in Perl so while Perl isn't quite working (e.g.
while it's being upgraded), the rm command is broken :/

I just pushed out a fix to limit the takeover to interactive shells only
(https://salsa.debian.org/debian/safe-
rm/-/commit/6dbe2adaed423f61464c343f8b9a1b1f42f721f4), but the real fix
which I'm hoping to get to in the next few weeks is to rewrite the tool
in Rust (https://bugs.launchpad.net/safe-rm/+bug/1854103) to avoid
depending on an interpreter.

That said, it's a pretty serious issue so probably the best thing for
20.04 might be to conflict on the package somehow to make sure it's
uninstalled prior to the upgrade.

I wasn't sure which package to file this bug against so please re-assign
if needed.

[Bug 1889699] [NEW] Brave is not included in the Ubuntu helpers

2020-07-30 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

The Brave browser is not included in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions
/ubuntu-browsers and /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/ubuntu-helpers which
means that when it's set as a default browser by a user, profiles like
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince break.

In this case, it means that users can't click on web links in PDFs for
example: https://community.brave.com/t/brave-does-not-open-links-

[Bug 1818344] [NEW] Sync safe-rm 0.12-7 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2019-03-02 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Please sync safe-rm 0.12-7 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

  * Resolve /usr/bin and /bin rm symlink conflict by moving the created
symlink to /usr/sbin. This is an Ubuntu specific solution, because
/usr/sbin is part of the PATH for all users. Closes: #759410 LP:
#1768539
  * Drop templates and pre/postinst scripts that workaround unsafe
diversions that happened 10 years ago introduced in 0.2-5, as these
are now tripped up with usrmerge package installed.

The symlink which was conflicting between /usr/bin and /bin has been
removed entirely which means that the Ubuntu-specific hack is no
longer necessary.

Additionally, the debconf templates have been removed, so that Ubuntu
patch has essentially been merged.

Changelog entries since current disco version 0.12-3ubuntu1:

safe-rm (0.12-7) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Use a minimal key in debian/upstream/signing-key.asc
  * Bump Standards-Version to 4.2.1

safe-rm (0.12-6) unstable; urgency=high

Bourne-compatible shells. Patches for other shells are welcome.
(closes: #759410)
  * Update desktop action to use new user config file
  * Bump Standards-Version up to 4.2.0

I was still getting the error messages after upgrading the package
because the cached file still had the unescaped ampersand in it.

It seems like `fwupdmgr refresh` doesn't re-generate the file if it
hasn't changed on the server.

[Bug 1780520] Re: fwupd fails to refresh because of badly encoded data

2018-07-08 Thread François Marier
I have uploaded a fixed package to my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~fmarier/+archive/ubuntu/ppa?field.series_filter=xenial

Here's how I fixed the problem:

1. upgrade the appstream-glib package to the one in my PPA
2. delete /var/cache/app-info/xmls/fwupd.xml
3. run `fwupdmgr refresh` as root to re-download the XML file

[Bug 1616734] [NEW] gnome-session exists immediately at login

2016-08-24 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

The root cause is a missing dependency after installing the Xenial LTS
Enablement stack. This is the fix:

apt install libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial

If I add "--debug" in /usr/share/xsessions/gnome.desktop, I see the
following in ~/.xsession-errors:

gnome-session[12878]: DEBUG(+): GsmAutostartApp: starting
gnome-shell.desktop: command=/usr/bin/gnome-shell
startup-id=10d41f1f5c81914ec614719711371830012878
gnome-session[12878]: DEBUG(+): GsmAutostartApp: started pid:13121
...
/usr/bin/gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries:
libwayland-egl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
gnome-session[12878]: DEBUG(+): GsmAutostartApp: (pid:13121) done
(status:127)
gnome-session[12878]: WARNING: App 'gnome-shell.desktop' exited with code

which shows that gnome-shell won't start because of a missing wayland
library.

[Bug 1451477] Re: /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/90rkhunter security loss

2015-05-06 Thread François Marier
I'm not sure whether or not this is technically possible.

The manpage for apt.conf doesn't mention any parameters (such as the
package names) that can passed to the DPkg::Post-Invoke hook.

If someone can find a clean way to do it, I think it's a good idea.

[Bug 1220425] Re: Update rkhunter on Lucid (LTS) to supported version

2014-12-22 Thread François Marier
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1303564 ***

There is a 1.4.0 package for Precise in my PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~fmarier/+archive/ubuntu/ppa?field.series_filter=precise

I'm not maintaining that backport anymore because I no longer have any
12.04 machines, but you're welcome to use it, it's not any less
maintained than the unmaintained package that's in the official archive
for Precise :)

[Bug 1184878] Re: when upstart init the session jobs, it should be robust against environment changes (fallback?)

2014-07-14 Thread François Marier
I also had this problem after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04 and fixed it
by creating a new file (/etc/X11/Xsession.d/01path_fix) and putting the
following in it:

  # Fix for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1184878
  PATH=$PATH:/sbin

It's a bit annoying that it puts /sbin in normal user paths though.

Thanks Stanislav, I was able to fix this by following your instructions.

Here's my fix for the Plantronics .Audio 626 DSP:

1. Put this in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-plantronics.rules:

  ACTION!=add|change, GOTO=xorg_plantronics_end
  KERNEL!=event*, GOTO=xorg_plantronics_end

  ENV{ID_VENDOR_ID}==047f, ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}==c006, ENV{ID_INPUT_KEY}=1
  ENV{ID_VENDOR_ID}==047f, ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}==c006, RUN+=keymap $name
0xc00e9 volumeup 0xc00ea volumedown 0xb002f micmute

  LABEL=xorg_plantronics_end

2. Reload udev:

  sudo udevadm control --reload

3. Unplug the headset and plug it back in

[Bug 1050509] Re: Duplicity doesn't handle non-utf8 filenames well

2013-01-22 Thread François Marier
I can confirm that the work-around in comment 16 does work, although I
had to add this to my backup script:

  export LANG=en_US.utf8
  export LANGUAGE=
  export LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8
  export LC_NUMERIC=en_US.utf8
  export LC_TIME=en_US.utf8
  export LC_COLLATE=en_US.utf8
  export LC_MONETARY=en_US.utf8
  export LC_MESSAGES=en_US.utf8
  export LC_PAPER=en_US.UTF-8
  export LC_NAME=en_US.utf8
  export LC_ADDRESS=en_US.utf8
  export LC_TELEPHONE=en_US.utf8
  export LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US.utf8
  export LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.utf8
  export LC_ALL=

Another locale that can be used to reproduce the problem is fr_CA.utf8.

So this bug has in fact nothing to do with filenames and everything to
do with the localized error messages breaking duplicity.
