My theory is that the accessibility bridge qt-at-spi is cacheing the
first accessibility values it gets. But these values are not being
notified of an update, or the library isn't able to update them.

flashing of the cursor uses a surprising amount of CPU for us. Thus a

This is due to Unity Unity2D implementing (the same) whitelist of tray
icons, viewable in the dconf entry: desktop/unity/panel/systray-
whitelist
To fix this add 'Skype' and 'JDownloader' to this list using dconf-
editor (part of dconf-tools package).

The minimise animation is Metacity. You could try disabling compositing:
gconftool-2 --set --type bool /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager false

Anyway, last time I killed the Unity 2D Launcher, the Dash didn't reattach
to
the launcher. When I called the Dash, the Launcher didn't respond or unhide,
but the Dash did appear :p

I cannot reproduce this. André, can you still get this?
Investigating this, I see that the KeyMonitor has a thread which watches
for all keyboard events with XNextEvent. If the Xserver shuts down,
XNextEvent will fail and calls _XIOError which calls any error handler
if defined (to quit). Qt

I'm sorry but I can't reproduce this at all. Can you check in your System
Settings - Keyboard panel, opening the Shortcuts tab, selecting the
Navigation option in the left pane, and verify that the shortcut for Switch
Applications is Alt+Tab?
Do other global keyboard shortcuts work ok?
