[Bug 1710656] [NEW] Allow user to select power off button functionality

2017-08-14 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release:16.04

The power button suspends the computer. I read the developers deemed it 'too
destructive'. That is a very questionable assumption.

Is the user also considered incapable of deciding what s/he wants if the dialog
to power off, restart, suspend or hibernate the system is displayed? Don't they
think that some users might like to at least have the chance to configure the
behavior in the configuration? What is the point of having a suspend and power
off buttons in a computer if both do the same?

Please configure the power button to display the dialog to restart,
suspend, shutdown the computer, or at least make it easy to users to
select that by using the dconf-editor tool.

[Bug 1540088] Re: NetworkManager crashes after upgrade, preventing nm-applet to show

2016-01-31 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
I am having the same problem. What helped me have back Internet access
was to bring up the interfaces and running dhclient from the command
line:

sudo ifconfig eth0 up
sudo dhclient

Replace eth0 with the interface you want to use.
This will not bring the applet back to life, but at list you will have Internet.

[Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password

2014-11-25 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
I think the fact that Evolution clears the password without interacting with
the user is a bug on its own.
All the workarounds are temporary and do not solve the problem.
Evolution seems to have problems dealing with basic connectivity issues:
connection drops, mail server temporary down (Yahoo, anyone?).
Bottom line: Evolution should never ever clear the password of any account. It
could ask the user to update the password if there are authentication problems
(if they are not related to connectivity issues), but the decision to change
the password should not be made without the user consent.

[Bug 1065825] [NEW] usb-creator has bad window resize behavior

2012-10-12 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

This bug is very easy to find:
Just open the application and resize (expand) the window vertically.
The areas that display the ISO files and the disk to use (both are lists)
should be the ONLY parts of the GUI affected by that operation. Instead, the
whole window rearranges its content (for example increasing the distance from
the Erase Disk button to the label 'When starting up )

[Bug 1035754] [NEW] Joystick doesn't properly read raw gamepad data

2012-08-11 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

I have a gamepad (detected as: ID 0e8f:0012 GreenAsia Inc. USB Wireless 2.4GHz
Gamepad) which is actually no wireless.
After running the calibration process, the retrieved range for each axis is as
follows:
minimum = 0,  center = 12, maximum = 128.
As you can see, having the center at 12 doesn't make sense and leaves the
joystick working badly:
* Values jump up to the maximum really quickly when moving the sticks to the
left and/or up.
* Values work fine (smooth changes) when moving the stick down or to the right.
The gamepad works fine under windows 7, and it displays raw data during
calibration as follows:
minimum = 0,  center = 128, maximum = 248

[Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-14 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
For those of you with Nvidia cards having this problem: if you feel like
giving it a try I solved it by doing two things, but I am not sure if
the combination of both gave me the solution or just the last one:

I first installed Michael Kuhn ppa and upgraded the system:
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:suraia/ppa
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

Finally I installed xorg-edgers fresh X crack ppa to use the nvidia beta
drivers:
sudo apt-add-repository - y ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y nvidia-current

I then disabled this last ppa from software sources to prevent updates
to the driver that is finally working as it should: the random red
screen bug and freeze at shutdown/reboot and the black screen with the
moving cursor problem are gone (I tried suspending the computer with
tons of programs opened for hours and it worked as it used to with
Maverick).

Note that this will leave your computer running the 3.5.0-4-generic kernel.
YMMV

Having done this, I am able to reboot my system however long I have been
using it. So my current shutdown routine is, first reboot and wait for the
login screen, then from there shutdown.
  Thanks for your help.

[Bug 1021790] [NEW] Unable to access all dialog content on small screens

2012-07-06 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

When I work in my netbook, some windows in almost all programs (print
dialogs, libreoffice dialogs, evolution configuration dialogs, and so
on) have their content displayed beyound the screen size and it is
impossible to access it. This is a major usability issue that needs to
be addressed as soon as possible by forcing size-fixed windows/dialogs
as resizable + scrollable if their content is shown beyound the screen
size.

[Bug 1021843] [NEW] Evolution outgoing filter not working

2012-07-06 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

Hi, when I set an outgoing filter with the following conditions:

any conditions are met

it doesn't work. Values between are real values in my installation

[Bug 1021952] [NEW] Backlit keyboard stopped working

2012-07-06 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

Hi,
My backlit keyboard used to work fine under Maverick, although no notification
was shown on screen when hitting Fn+Z.
Now I can see the notification but that doesn't turn the back led light on and
off as it used to.
If I set in the BIOS to auto (turning it on when I type and turning it off
after 15 seconds) it works, although Fn+Z shows the notification and doesn't
change the state.
Thanks!

[Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-02 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
I don't know if this is useful, but I am experiencing the blank screen + moving
cursor + high CPU ussage + locked keyboard problem.
I am running 12.04 AMD64 with propietary Nvidia graphic drivers.
Suspend and Resume work FINE if I use Unity 2D or Gnome Classic (no effects).
It does show the problem with Unity, Gnome Shell, Gnome Classic, and Cinnamon.
In all of these the var/usr/pm-suspend.log shows the resume from suspend
worked. I think the problem is in Compiz (at least in my case).
My computer used to resume and suspend with no problem with Maverick.

[Bug 1019810] [NEW] Wireless card rtl8192se takes way too many tries to connect to wifi

2012-07-01 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

I have a realtek 8192se wifi card in my Toshiba Qosmio X500. In Maverick I had
to compile and install the driver from realtek to make it work, because it had
the same problem that is has now: it tries to connect and keeps failking,
asking for the wifi password (which of course was the right one). The
connection encryption is WPA2.
The card takes too many tries to connect to the wifi. If I click on the Network
Manager and disable wifi, wait a few secons, and enable it back, the chances to
get a connection go up (especially if this is done as soon logged in). Once the
connection is stablished, it seems stable.

[Bug 1019374] [NEW] Firefox should avoid input boxes with same background and font color

2012-06-29 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

Firefox should override web pages settings for text box or anything that
involves the user typing text.
Ideally it should use the theme's settings *everywhere*, and avoid situations
like a white font on white background or black font on black or dark
backgrounds.

[Bug 1019374] Re: Firefox should avoid input boxes with same background and font color

2012-06-29 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
I forgot to mention the theme I have installed is GnomishDark and not
only the text boxes are a problem, sometimes other places are
problematic too: like trying to attach a file to a bug report in this
very same web page. The space where the text of the attached file should
be shown is white: white font on white background... one can discover it
by painting the text.

[Bug 948532] [NEW] Conexant CX20583 Pebble HSF Recording problem

2012-03-06 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

I tried the HdaAnalyzer tool to try to fix this problem and I found the
following:

In Node 0x1e checked Widget Control IN
In Node 0x17 checked Pin Complex 0x1e

This makes the internal mic work and the external mic also work when plugged
in. The only problem is that unplugging the external mic does not make the
internal one to work anymore.
If after unplugging the external mic, I change the Pin Complex to a different
value and then back to 0x1e the internal mic starts to work.

[Bug 915116] Re: blank screen after installing nvidia-current in Precise

2012-02-24 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Ok, what worked for me is adding intel_iommu=off as a boot parameter.
This was suggested in this article by Phoronix:

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTAzNzk

As far as using the upstream kernel, is there any way of integrating it into a
live pen drive or CD?
I don't have 12.04 installed in my computer because it has a bug in nouveau
that corrupts the screen, so I cannot use it. Can I test the kernel in Maverick?
Thanks!

[Bug 909926] Re: corrupted graphics on unity login

2012-02-16 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
The bug is present with NO nvidia-current installed. In fact, the
picture I attached a few days ago was taken after booting from a live CD
(well, pen drive). If I install nvidia-current the screen goes
completely black, but it can be corrected by adding intel_iommu=off to
the kernel options. Adding it when nvidia-current NOT installed doesn't
change the screen corruption.

[Bug 915116] [NEW] blank screen after installing nvidia-current in Precise

2012-01-11 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Public bug reported:

I tried to use Ubuntu 12.04 (daily build from today, Jan 11) from a pen drive,
but even though I can see the Ubuntu splash, as soon as Unity should be shown
the screen gets video garbage and I cannot use the desktop. After switching to

The installation went well, but now instead of corrupted graphics I get a blank
screen and the computer completely freezes.

[Bug 874276] Re: Corrupted video on Live CD with nVIDIA Cards

2011-10-18 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
Can you please give me instructions on how to report the bug from any TTY? The
desktop is not usable.
I tried to run apport-cli -u 874276 but it says it will open the browser. I
assume there should be a way to report a problem when the desktop doesn´t start
in the live CD (the only thing I see is the corrupted screen and one of cores
goes to 100%).
I could also install the nvidia-current drivers in the Live Pen Drive and start
with it... do you think this will report the information you need?
Thanks!

[Bug 874276] Re: Corrupted video on Live CD with nVIDIA Cards

2011-10-18 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
apport information

** Tags added: compiz-0.9 oneiric ubuntu

** Description changed:

Since Maverick I get video corruption right when the desktop should be shown
on screen. My computer has an nVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M. I have the problem even
after adding vga=771 as an option to the startup line. I've been reading on the
Internet that many users have this problem, all with relatively new nVIDIA
cards. Maybe the culprit is NOUVEAU?
This problem is an awful regression introduced in Maverick that should be
fixed and marked with HIGH importance because it may prevent new users from
adopting Ubuntu: it is a horrible first impression!

[Bug 874276] Re: Corrupted video on Live CD with nVIDIA Cards

2011-10-18 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
I saved the report from the live pendrive and used ubuntu-bug to update
the report... but I am not sure it worked as expected. Just in case I am
attaching the original saved bug in case it is needed.

[Bug 874276] Re: Corrupted video on Live CD with nVIDIA Cards

2011-10-18 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
This is the bug report saved previous the installation of nvidia-current in the
live pendrive (that is what allows me to send the report from oneiric now).
Please let me know if you need additional information.

[Bug 874276] Re: Corrupted video on Live CD with nVIDIA Cards

2011-10-15 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Since Maverick I get video corruption right when the desktop should be shown
on screen. My computer has an nVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M. I have the problem even
after adding vga=771 as an option to the startup line. I've been reading on the
Internet that many users have this problem, all with relatively new nVIDIA
cards. Maybe the culprit is NOUVEAU?
This problem is an awful regression introduced in Maverick that should be
fixed and marked with HIGH importance because it may prevent new users from
adopting Ubuntu: it is a horrible first impression!
