I have the same problem, the game becomes unplayable after a while. Then I
tried the following, under settings, preferences, theme - I chose plain
and the performance-issue was solved. I know this is a work-around at best.

main differences;
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so:

while I had compiled for 1.5.2

I read somewhere on the net about this being a result of a conflict in
configurations - I removed the file /etc/ati/amdpcsdb and it began to
work.
I'm not exactly sure what this does but it seems to do the trick. All
other files in /etc/ati are untouched.

I'm experiencing this problem from time to time on my laptop.
OS: 9.04 64-bit
laptop: Acer Travelmate 5530G.
Both the keyboard and touchpad is unresponsive at the gdm and the only
way to resolve this is to reboot the computer.
If I plug in an external usb-mouse then it works correctly.

figure out what's causing the symptoms by logging in remotely from
another computer and running gdb attached to the Xorg pid... Until now
has that proven fruitless but today I got something different:
I got fed up last week and disabled the compiz-fusion window manager
and noticed a remarkable drop in the number of crashes. This isn't a
workaround - it's just amputating the problem.

I'm dealing with the same problem although the computer is a Acert
Travelmate 5530-704G32Mi (AMD RM-70, 4 Gb RAM, Ati Radeon HD 3470XT).
I have tried all drivers (radeonhd, fglrx and ati) but none seem to get
the monitor going.
The best results have been with fglrx - I can hear the sounds of gdm

I took a closer look at dist-upgrade.log and found that the last entry in that
logfile is
DEBUG The package 'linux-image-2.6.10-5-386' is marked for removal but it's in
the removal blacklist
ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'A essential package would have to be removed'
So how to remove
Actually I got it to work by updating the system with the commands
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade in the console.
after I had manually edited the /etc/apt/sources.list to dapper's
repositories.

Here is the .so file.
Copy the .tar.gz file to / and
run sudo tar -zxvf xf86-video-radeonhd-1.2.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
That will place the file in the right place in the /usr directory.
Otherwise, just place the radeonhd_drv.so file directly into the
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ directory.
What I meant was that through update-manager there was a newer version
of the ati-fglrx package available that was installed.

Computer totally freezes when compiz-fusion

Audio problems when opening new applications while playing flash content
I'm running Xubuntu 10.10 and thunderbird 3.1.7.
