Happens on a clean install of Karmic right before I start the first audio test
of the systemtest-application.
Btw. when I boot the machine, the ubuntu start sound crackles and lags (like
running on a not linear timeline, gets behind and catches up) a bit.

I had the same issue with my Thinkpad T41 which has a Radeon Mobility
9000. When i plugged out the second/external monitor, everything worked
fine (glxgears 835 instead of 88 fps) again. But I have the resolution
and the colordepth hardcoded in my xorg.conf - didn't try without it...

Dapper-Hardy upgrades.

The custom reactor doesn't look to be unit-tested, but I guess the only

I can confirm this.
My setup is similar to the above.
Sometimes the system is not able to go into standby and crashes
completely.
