[Bug 1872474] [NEW] Missing gpgme-json prevents use of popular Mailvelope browser extension

2020-04-13 Thread Peter J. Mello
Public bug reported:

As described at the Mailvelope GitHub repository wiki here
users are able to use their local GPG keyring via gpgme-
json (rather than the included Openpgp.js library) with several popular
webmail services, provided that the gpgme-json binary is available to
the browser process. I reviewed the file lists for the binary packages
produced from this source package and found no mention of it. Upon
closer inspection of the packaging files, the d/rules has an override
for dh_missing for the file and a note in the changelog from 2018, but
there was no mention of what the circumstances were that necessitated
that decision.

If it's possible to correct the conditions that led to the file's
exclusion I think it would be well worth pursuing as e-mail becomes
evermore commercialized on top of an infrastructure that never did place
much of a premium on privacy.

I'm running the dev release of Kubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" with
version 1.13.1-7ubuntu2 of the libgpgme11 package.

[Bug 1872103] [NEW] After update to 6.4.2.2: Split database only accessible while running in Safe Mode

2020-04-10 Thread J-K
Public bug reported:

I updated LibreOffice from 6.0.7 to 6.4.2.2 via
ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-6-4. Now I get an error when trying to open
a form in a HSQLDB 2.3.2 split database: “Error in script file line: 1
Unexpected token UNIQUE, requires COLLATION in statement [SET DATABASE
UNIQUE]“

When running in Safe Mode, I can access the database. But even when
using a new, clean profile, I can't access the database!

When starting LibreOffice with
LC_ALL=C libreoffice

I can open a form within the database but then an error like
“The data could not be loaded. There exists no table named "[Name of my
table]".“ is displayed.

I tried installing the DEB packages provided on
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/ , same version 6.4.2.2, and
there the split database is working as expected.

I reported this bug wrongly first here:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132009

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Update LibreOffice from 6.0.7 to 6.4.2.2 on Ubuntu 18.04.4 using
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-6-4
2. Start LO and open a split database (Use this test database:
http://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=159465 )
3. Click on a table

Actual Results:
Seeing following error message (when using German localization as normally)
“Error in script file line: 1 Unexpected token UNIQUE, requires COLLATION in
statement [SET DATABASE UNIQUE]“

When starting LO with
LC_ALL=C libreoffice

I can open a form within the database but then an error message like
“The data could not be loaded. There exists no table named "[Name of my
table]".“ is displayed.

So the database is not usable at all.

Expected Results:
The split database should be accessible.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

2020-04-07 Thread Michael J. Kidd
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubiquity-20.04.9 ubuntu

** Description changed:

  During installation of 20.04 beta:

Advanced partitioning attempts to setup encrypted / and swap partitions,
attempting to proceed beyond partitioning UI results in failure to mount
  crypted volume as /target.

Further checks from terminal show no valid filesystem exists on the open
  dmcrypt volume.

  Reproduction details:
   - Existing windows installation partitions, consuming ~1/2 of a 1TB NVMe
   - Create new 1gb EXT4 formatted, non-encrypted /boot partition
   - Create new 70gb encrypted partition
+ Edit the new partition to be / and formatted ext4
   - Create new 16gb encrypted partition
+ Edit the new partition to be type swap
   - Click the button to continue installation

  Expected results:
   - Installation continues

  Actual results:
   - Time zone selection screen appears, but message pops up indicating a
failure to mount the encrypted / volume on /target
   - Unable to click 'Go Back' or 'Continue' or the 'X' at the top of the modal
dialog
   - Unable to click anything on the time zone selection window underneath (
greyed out )

  Additionally:
   - Attempts to re-use existing encrypted partitions was 100% unsuccessful
+ Tried clicking one, setting it as a raw encrypted partition, setting the
password that existed on it, but the installer never presented details about
that crypted filesystem's contents
+ Tried pre-opening the crypted volumes from terminal using cryptsetup,
which did allow the installation to complete, but was unable to boot due to
missing crypttab entries in initramfs.

Importing the numpy c-extensions failed.
- Try uninstalling and reinstalling numpy.
- If you have already done that, then:
  1. Check that you expected to use Python3.7 from "/usr/bin/python3.7",
and that you have no directories in your PATH or PYTHONPATH that can
interfere with the Python and numpy version "1.17.4" you're trying to use.
  2. If (1) looks fine, you can open a new issue at

 - how you installed Python
 - how you installed numpy
 - your operating system
 - whether or not you have multiple versions of Python installed
 - if you built from source, your compiler versions and ideally a build log

- If you're working with a numpy git repository, try `git clean -xdf`
(removes all files not under version control) and rebuild numpy.

[Bug 1794876] Re: Touchpad doesn't work out-of-the-box in Ubuntu 18.04.1 with ThinkPad X1 carbon

2020-02-12 Thread J. McDonald
I'm using a new ThinkPad E495 laptop with a "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
and Xubuntu 18.04.4 with the current HWE kernel "5.3.0-28-generic" and I
had a similar issue. In my particular case, installing xserver-xorg-
input-synaptics-hwe-18.04 returned normal function to the TouchPad.

[Bug 298617] Re: Popularity Contest should be uninstallable

2020-01-26 Thread J. Snow
@Lenin I'm not sure why you changed the status to "Fix Released". As far
as I can see the ubuntu-standard still depends on popularity-contest on
Ubuntu 19.10. The same applies for the development branch of Ubuntu
20.04: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/arm64/ubuntu-standard/1.443

Could you please change the status back to Triaged to indicate that this
bug is unfixed?

[Bug 1808576] Re: gnome-control-center segfaults when unit bolt.service is masked

2020-01-20 Thread John J. Szetela
So... How about a fix!
For Ubuntu 18.04.3 the bug happens when you inadvertently hit the
gnome-control-center devices/thunderbolt section.
gnome-control-center segfaults and will not restart! Fault:
(gnome-control-center:8315): thunderbolt-cc-panel-WARNING **: 15:36:34.212:
Could not create client: Error calling StartServiceByName for
org.freedesktop.bolt: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.systemd1.UnitMasked: Unit
bolt.service is masked.

Instead of waiting for a fix to this that happens upstream from Ubuntu18.04.3
you can just:
sudo systemctl unmask bolt.service
sudo systemctl stop bolt.service
sudo systemctl start bolt.service

The stop probably isn't necessary, but it doesn't hurt!

[Bug 1491064] Re: Text editing very slow in 0.91 on files with many objects, normal in 0.48

2020-01-17 Thread Marvin J.
lacking any experience with GTK, I had a quick peek at the source and
noticed that the text-tool calls sp_event_context_update_cursor in the
input event processing quite a bit, whereas select-tool does not do
that. Instead, select-tool calls gdk_window_set_cursor(window,...) in
the GDK_ENTER_NOTIFY and GDK_LEAVE_NOTIFY events (which are not handled
by text-tool at all).

Sorry if I am sending people on a goose-chase here. I just found this
mouse-in-window dependency of the slow-down very curious!

[Bug 1491064] Re: Text editing very slow in 0.91 on files with many objects, normal in 0.48

2020-01-17 Thread Marvin J.
I have the same issue with inkscape 1.0beta1 (fe3e306, 2019-09-17) installed
via snap on Ubuntu 18.04.
But I noticed something potentially interesting though: for me, the *slowdown
only happens when the mouse cursor is inside the inkscape window*.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Load a sufficiently complex file that displays slow text editing.
2) hit F1 (selection tool) and click on a text element
3) move the mouse cursor *outside the inkscape window*
4) hit F8 (text tool) and edit the text element via keyboard only (it's very
fast for me)
5) hit F1 again
6) move mouse cursor back into inkscape window

This procedure makes text editing quite fast again. The slowdown is recovered
if step 3) is omitted.
Perhaps this can help to point towards the cause, maybe something with updating
the mouse cursor style (from arrow to text-cursor) is inadvertantly checking
for potential overlap with *all* text elements?

Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps in nailing this bug down. It is a real
show-stopper (also using Inkscape for scientific figures and posters)

from speaking with those who do, they don't have any hardware ACPI
support. Have you explicitly confirmed that your model does?

[Bug 1858254] Re: thermald: [ERR]THD engine start failed

2020-01-04 Thread Peter J. Mello via ubuntu-bugs
It appears the last posted line of your log indicates at least one
obvious potential cause: you don't have a `thermal-conf.xml` file in
`/etc/thermald`. A good place to start to understand what needs to go in
it is `man thermal-conf.xml` and a template from which to make one
specifically for your hardware is available courtesy of Intel at:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/intel/thermal_daemon/master/data
/thermal-conf.xml

If you have trouble or find that there's another issue in play please
add the make and model of your computer as well as the output of this
command to your next response:

systemctl status thermald.service

2019-12-28 Thread Glenn J. Schworak
I forgot to mention there is 1 difference between the two servers.

On 16.04, memcached is version 1.4.25 and on 18.04 it is version 1.5.6.
All other items are the same. Both give the error, but Ubuntu 16.04
returns all keys every time.

2019-12-28 Thread Glenn J. Schworak
I have two servers giving the same error.

Ubuntu 16.04 server returns all the keys then throws this error at the
end.

Ubuntu 18.04 server returns all keys some times and skips some other
times.

I ran the test many times on each server. 16.04 is stable in what it
returns but 18.04 changes each time I run memdump. This is also an issue
when running getAllKeys() from php.

All testing demonstrates that the data stored in the cache is working
perfectly. It only seems to be the command to get the keys that is
causing trouble.

[Bug 1854607] Re: [fastimport 3.0.2] AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute '_transport'

2019-12-03 Thread Peter J. Mello via ubuntu-bugs
Hi Jelmer,

First, thanks for helping me straighten out this issue. I'm working from
a local clone of the xtables-addons git repo (git://git.code.sf.net/p
/xtables-addons/xtables-addons). Originally I was trying to pipe the
output of git fast-export [flags] to brz fast-import -, but I had
absolutely no success with any of a multitude of permutations for the
flags on both sides. Everything I've reported in this thread has been
from attempts at the method tacitly suggested in the brz documentation,
that of working from the git output in the form of a file. I created
said file with the following command:

git fast-export --tag-of-filtered-object=rewrite --signed-tags=strip
--all >debian.fi

I'm not all that familiar with the format specification for fast-export,
but inspecting the contents of the file created by the above command
shows an orderly arrangement of information that I have no reason to be
suspicious of. I then attempted to process the debian.fi file with brz
after moving into the folder I wanted the Bazaar repository to reside in
with this command:

brz fast-import /path/to/debian.fi

I'm unaware of how one would go about "disabling verbose mode" on either
the git or brz invocations; I was under the impression that verbose mode
for both was an opt-in condition, not opt-out. I'll gladly test anything
you might suggest, though.

Regards,
Peter

[Bug 151448]

2019-11-25 Thread D-john-j
I've just noticed that another commit of mine has landed in master, and
with that, pressure sensitivity should be basically functional in
PaintTool SAI 2. Just tested the latest revision
(ddec23013e39b563a3a50c0fe42c2ae8b518d538) with a freshly unzipped SAI 2
(sai2-20190812-32bit-en) and a new WINEPREFIX, and it appears to work.

There are still issues:

- At least on my setup, different kinds of cursors (like erasers) are
treated the same as the pen.

- SAI 2 spits out a bunch of errors when you first start drawing (but
seems to function anyways.)

- SAI 1 is still broken without additional patches. As mentioned before,
the way Wine handles Wintab contexts is not accurate. However, the
behavior is different than I thought and has nothing to do with what
position on the screen the tablet is at. (Playing with Wacom Wintab, it
actually appears that it has more to do with what window is in the
foreground as to what contexts receive events.)

>Hello, just tested the latest patches from staging on PS 2018 and it seems
>like pressure sensitivity is working to some extend.
>
>I observed 2 major bugs:
>- 50% of the time when the brush tool is used, pressure sensitivity does not
>work at all, producing a line with 100% line thickness, seems to be random
>- when a quick line is drawn, it either works or just draws a single dot

I have not looked into your problems yet, but since a lot of stuff is
changing it might help to periodically check and see if anything has
improved. I suspect the issues in PS2018 are probably a lot different
from the issues in SAI. I don't have a modern copy of Photoshop, so I
have been testing with a very old version (which does not seem to have
this problem.)

** Description changed:

I initially posted this bug to the Firefox issue tracker here:
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1596397, but we determined
it was specific to the Ubuntu package.

When I play the video in this JSFiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/ea9h3bg7/,
there should be no audio. This is the behavior in the Firefox 70 build
that you can get from Mozilla's website. However, with the Ubuntu build,
  audio is still heard.

[Bug 1853740] [NEW] gcc-8-riscv64-linux-gnu produces binaries with executable stack by default

2019-11-24 Thread Wladimir J. van der Laan
Public bug reported:

The gcc 8 RISC-V cross-compiler on Ubuntu 18.04, in contrast to other
architectures such as ARM and x86, does not use noexecstack by default.

$ riscv64-linux-gnu-gcc-8 --version
'riscv64-linux-gnu-gcc-8 (Ubuntu 8.3.0-6ubuntu1~18.04.1) 8.3.0
Copyright (C) 2018 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
$ echo "int main() { return 0; }" > test.c
$ riscv64-linux-gnu-gcc-8 test.c -o test
$ readelf -lW test|grep GNU_STACK
(no output)

Expected output:

  GNU_STACK 0x00 0x 0x 0x00
0x00 RW 0x10

$ riscv64-linux-gnu-gcc-8 test.c -c -o test.o
$ scanelf -e test.o
 TYPE STK/REL/PTL FILE
ET_REL !WX --- --- test.o

Expected output:

 TYPE STK/REL/PTL FILE
ET_REL --- --- --- test.o

$ riscv64-linux-gnu-gcc-8 test.c -o test

I've checked with the RISC-V toolchain on Fedora, and that does set the
correct GNU_STACK permissions.

So I don't think this is expected behavior, and might result in cross-
compiled executables being less hardened than expected.

As a workaround, `-Wl,-z,noexecstack` can be passed to the linker, or
`-Wa,-noexecstack` to gcc.

** Affects: gcc-8-cross-ports (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

[Bug 1852645] [NEW] WebAudio API does not behave as expected (Cannot mute videos)

2019-11-14 Thread Jack J
Public bug reported:

I initially posted this bug to the Firefox issue tracker here:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1596397, but we determined
it was specific to the Ubuntu package.

When I play the video in this JSFiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/ea9h3bg7/,
there should be no audio. This is the behavior in the Firefox 70 build
that you can get from Mozilla's website. However, with the Ubuntu build,
audio is still heard.

[Bug 1740026] Re: ubiquity crashed with UnicodeDecodeError in decode(): 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x91 in position 269: invalid start byte

2019-11-07 Thread Michal J
Digging a little deeper, specifically in /usr/lib/ubiquity/plugins/ubi-
prepare.py, in the method setup_sufficient_space() there is a call to a
subprocess, that subprocess being parted_devices. Running parted_devices
on your own in terminal with this device will report the above "HBG4a"
and unicode character, but since this is not UTF8 I think the python
script will fail since the default stance on errors is to fail with an
error code, UnicodeDecodeError(). To bypass this, I modified that call
to be as such:

proc = subprocess.Popen(['parted_devices'], stdout=subprocss.PIPE,
encoding='iso-8859-1', universal_newlines=True)

This allows it to at least get passed this reported error. But
subsequently, it will fail on ubi-partman.py with error code 141
(unknown what it means), and will not enter the partition manager in
ubiquity (skips it entirely).

The problem seems that this unicode naming keeps coming back to haunt
the python scripts as it attempts to run the partition manager. Ideally,
it would be great to remove this unicode in the name entirely since I
don't think it will affect the partitioning in any way (I even looked
into where the hardware reports this from and if it can be manually
changed, but so far no dice). Otherwise, I'm stuck with hunting through
all the scripts that do these calls and reads from the name and patch
them to work with the iso-8859-1 encoding.

Onward.

[Bug 1740026] Re: ubiquity crashed with UnicodeDecodeError in decode(): 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x91 in position 269: invalid start byte

2019-11-06 Thread Michal J
This issue has timed out due to inactivity, but I have recently come
across it while trying to install elementary OS 5.0 Juno, as well as KDE
Neon and a few other Ubuntu-based distros that all use the ubiquity
installer. The issue, I think, boils down to a call to parted_devices,
which returns a list of the available devices and partitions. This can
be seen in the UbiquitySyslog.txt attachment above, where the Hynix MMC
device returns the device name "HBG4a" suffixed by the unicode character
U+FFFD, ie the replacement character when it's unable to read the rest
of the string. I believe this is the cause of the crash since it is a
non-UTF8 character. Hopefully someone else has run into this and can
confirm it.

[Bug 1434959] Re: XFCE desktop - system icons themselves arrange off the screen

2019-10-30 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
I have the same behaviour on 18.04 with ppa:xubuntu-dev/ppa. xfdesktop
is 4.12. The only workaround is to make the system run xfdesktop -R -A
after login. Anyone can do it adding the command to Session and
Startup/Application Autostart.

[Bug 1846940]

2019-10-24 Thread J-ragan
(In reply to Elizabeth Thomasma from comment #33)

> I have CALC workbook with only 1 control. It flickers so issue does occur
> with just 1 control

I can't reproduce it (in files created from scratch at least), without using
zoom functionality (which I don't use in my workflow).
One control on a page with default zoom and non-default column width does not
trigger this bug for me.
Two or more controls and non default column width - it starts flashing after
loading file, or if file is newly created, then it randomly takes up to few
seconds.

However, with single control I can only reproduce the bug with the use of zoom
feature.
Reproduction:
1. Create new file
2. Add one control
3. Resize one column (necessary, could not reproduce without this step)
4. Zoom out to at least 80% or zoom in to at least 110% (those values appear to
be trigger points for this bug for forms with one control on them)

Can you check if you have non default zoom in your file and if yes, then
check what happens with your file if you set zoom to 100%?

Hello,

Like I had several problems with 19.04 (mainly the computer which didn't
stop completly), I've already updated the system to 19.10 RC.

And I have no more this bug : when I drag the adress on the desktop or a
Nautilus window, nothing happens : the URL is not copied but the app
doesn't freeze any more.

Firefox 69.02 - Wayland

Good evening.
