can't turn it off after I write a word in italic, but I can write

I usually use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+i, but for turning it off

screen while resizing... or some variant thereof).
So... it is still a bug and should be kept open until it is fixed in
Compiz and Ubuntu can change mode. (Having this fixed in Compiz won't
automatically mean that Ubuntu's
99.% of users of ubuntu, if they find out how to run fsck at that prompt,
will say YES
to every of fsck's suggestions, only a few kernel hackers would know enough
to not follow
the defaults in fsck.

I'm running a fully updated Gutsy install.
Did mkdir /var/run/screen dir, chmod 775 and chgrp to utmp. Don't see
any point in doing sudo screen after that. :) (Fixed it before filing
the bug.) I also have screen instances running right now so deleting the
dir right now isn't an option.

Can't run screen in Gutsy
This is still a big problem in Gutsy. I have never, repeat _NEVER_, let
apport finished running.
When an application crashes the cpu spikes to 100% and the whole system
becomes unresponsive. After a few seconds I usually manage to do a
killall apport and everything is peachy again. It never
And if there's some tool out there that is better at recovering data
than fsck, why not investigate running that tool instead (or maybe in
addition to fsck).
Anyways, asking and making it CRYSTAL CLEAR and DEAD SIMPLE what needs
to be done to get back to a working state is better than what's
Kdevdesigner crashed also under gutsy.

I've got the same problem with network-manager. I'm on Kubuntu, and I'm
using it with the Knetworkmanager applet.
Selecting a wireless network from the list won't get me a connection.
Knetworkmanager says Connection failure, and re-connects to the wired
connection.

Not so obvious to me.
Well, it's obvious that /var/run/screen can't be created when screen is
run (as !root) so it must be created before that. At boot? At install
time? Don't know. But yes, if it is supposed to be created by some init
script, and isn't, perhaps finding the bug in that script
fsck puts all data that can be salvaged in lost+found, right? Other than
that, is it really useful to dump the disk image for any other purpose
but debugging?

Hi,
I'm using Kubuntu Hardy, and it seems that fullscreen video playback (in
VLC or Kmplayer, didn't check others) disables the automatic monitor
switch-off, not only while watching (as it's supposed to), but for the
whole session after stopping playback. I have to reboot to
Stefan's manual fix above worked for me, I applied Ilja's patch after
that and it's still working.
I'm using Kubuntu Hardy, fglrx from the repositories.
Is this receiving proper attention? Because it's quite nasty.

If I boot with the last 2.6.24-19, the nvidia driver (nvidia-glx-new
from ubuntu repositories) is not used, and not listed in System -
Administration - Restricted drivers.

As I don't use suspending much since this bugreport and I also upgraded
kernel (from ubuntu repository), I haven't reproduce it recently.
Therefore now I will start using suspend again and let you know my
results soon.

I've upgraded to Feisty, but with the same result. It still does not
work. There seems to be a bunch of bugs related to the ICH7 rev 2, this
might be a duplicate of one of the other filed bugs??

I had the same problem on a Fujitsu-Siemens C1410 with i915 chipset and I just
uncommented the line that as default said # SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=true
It now works as it should. Great!
