I've tried the commmand mode by +++ many times. I've tried reset in
Ubuntu, and also going to the Windoze side of this same machine where
the modem works fine, and resetting it, then going straight back to
Ubuntu and checking responses. All is still the same, no response, no
echo, no nothing in

on a 12.10 Live USB + persistence set up.
In fact, I got it trying to apt-get install mdadm - so it seems possible
it occurs any time update-initramfs runs rather than just on a kernel

I'm trying that, and especially need to verify it will work from
initramfs as my root is encrypted. Ironically it stores the passphrase
in the kernel forever, whereas something that temporarily stores the
passphrase while the initramfs is running would have it available for
considerably less
It turns out that the script is already in the right place and all the
initramfs hooks are in place etc. It is merely necessary to add
keyscript=decrypt_keyctl into the relevant places in crypttab.
Unfortunately doing so causes update-initramfs to fail with the
cryptkeyctl hook giving error code
Ok, more progress. keyctl must be installed otherwise update-initramfs
fails and you have to guess why.
And with everything plumbed in, I can't actually enter my passphrase and
the machine is unusable. The reason is decrypt_keyctl is not using
whatever means is correct for prompting for the

Thanks for the follow up, but I had to give up on Ubuntu years ago!! I
could never get the help when needed ... case in point.
