[Bug 751057] Re: grub-pc upgrade on Amazon EC2: The GRUB boot loader was previously installed to a disk that is no longer present, or whose unique identifier has changed for some reason.
This problem has happened again. Updating 16.04 instances on AWS, it upgrades 'grub-pc' and displays the missing disk error and tries to push the user into installing grub on one or more disks. If you resist the prompts and do not install, no harm seems to occur. [Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete
After using using 13.04 everyday for good couple months now, I just want to come and let the team know just how aggravating this decision still is every day. I don't care about Ubuntu's politics or disagreements with Linux app developers who don't care to adopt the 'Unity way'. I care that my day-to-day user experience is, and continues to be made needlessly frustrating. Applications I use every day, like Google Chrome and JungleDisk, are still not working and still a pain to have to go kill them from the task list just because am forbidden by Mark's ideology from seeing the tray icon. Anti-user decisions driven by ideology is why my next laptop will definitely not be Linux; I know Mint is there and most people seem to be switching to that now; but it still the Ubuntu-based and I think these things are going to keep happening :-( At least Microsoft brings back the start menu that is what users want. [Bug 1043118] Re: Shows Error while adding the file monitor.
I've done more investigation and it mostly points to the libgnomevfs or inotify. I have tried upgrading Shutter to latest stable release (0.90~ppa4~precise1) but same problem. I have tried downgrading the libgnomevfs packages from the current 1:2.24.4-1ubuntu2.1 release back to 1:2.24.4-1ubuntu2, then logging out and logging in, but that didn't help either, so I reverted to latest stable. I have tried increasing the number of files that can be watched with inotify from the default 65535 to 10, in case between Dropbox and Shutter it was running out (though I only have 5000 Dropbox files and 12 Shutter files). /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches But that didn't help either. In fact Dropbox stopped working too, says 'Can't access DropBox folder'. Again this is a local filesystem folder. I assume gnomevfs and/or inotify flaked for Dropbox too. At that stage a full reboot appears to clear the problem, and Shutter and Dropbox sprang to life again. inotify is a kernel service so I guess it is possible that the kernel, inotify, or gnomevfs has some sort of resource leak, and one of them is the root cause of our Shutter problems. Anyone more knowledgeable on inotify think that is a valid theory? [Bug 1019395] Re: At random times NM applet menu stops responding
I have had it every since the 11.10 Unity release. It affects menus and non-Unity system tray icon menus also (like shutter, empathy, reminna). I believe it is actually a Unity/Compiz problem rather than Network Manager specific. It definitely does not require a suspend/restore to happen, just enough time/activity. What happens is after a period of use, usually less that a day, some kind of resource appear to run out or have leaked itself out. Then various things that require the resources stop works; so dynamically- created menus tend to be the first victims. The Network Manager VPN menu is definitely once of the most crippling because I know no work-around. Certainly no amount of restarting NM etc, will help. Logging out and logging back in again will fix it for a few hours, then you'll be screwed again. I suspect, without any proof of knowledge, that the fault hits when you get close to needing to page or reclaim memory. I have 8GB and usually would be at ~7GB in used for applications/VM when it hits. That could just be coincidence though. I have given up expecting any of major Unity bugs to get fixed, so I just live with it until I get my next laptop, which of course will definitely not have Unity. Maybe Mint, or hell, Windows XP would be a step up at this stage :-) In the meantime, if anyone has any work-around that doesn't require a log-out I'd love to hear about it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019395 Title: At random times NM applet menu stops responding To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/1019395/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for reviewing the patch Clint. [Bug 905793] Re: Tray Icons Suddenly Stop Working in Unity
I still get this problem with stock 11.10 almost every day. It occurs more often when I am using just one screen (laptop). [Bug 905793] Re: Tray Icons Suddenly Stop Working in Unity
I started noticing the same problem with system tray icons in 11.10 in January. At some point in my session all the system try icons stop responding. The applications still work, however the system tray icons do not respond to any mouse clicks. The native/indicator element are not affected. All the system tray icons stop working at the same time. The particular apps for me are: Skype, Remmina, Empathy, and Chrome. If I quit/kil an app, e.g. Remmina, the Remmina system try icon will disappear. If I re-run the app, the system tray icon will appear again, in the left-most location, but it still won't respond to clicks. Restarting the panel service ( killall unity-panel-service ) does not fix the problem, the panel comes back but system try icons still don't work. A complete unity restart via ( unity --replace ) does work, but that's not much of a fix because usually Unity loses windows, stuffs up window/unity stack orders, loses the launcher, or does all the not- wonderful things Unity does on multi-monitor set-up. So in the end the only fix I have right now it to log out completely. I have yet to work out the exact trigger than cause system tray failure. Note you don't need to make any changes, just looking at the backend menu, or clicking on '+' to add a profile, or clicking on export - all these will lead to Unity crashing. - Changing setting within a plug-in is sometimes ok, Unity may or may not die from that. Lots of strangeness though, e.g. both Gnome Compatibility and Unity bind the 'Alt-F2' action to run commands, and CCSM complains about the clash. However, 'Alt-F2' only actually works to pop-up the Unity run dialog if you have it set to 'Alt-F2' in both plug- ins. Currently CCSM and Unity seem mutually pretty incompatible. Looks like Unity is unstable under configuration changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861643 Title: CCSM crashes Unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/861643/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 791770] Re: empty vpn
With recent patches network manager menu is barely functional. Using latest stock NM on stock 11.04. Typically after a restore the sub-menus for 'More Networks...' for wifi, and the 'VPNs' sub-menu, turn into empty little stubs, so you can select anything that is supposed to be on them. So far a completed restart is the only way I can restore them; stopping/starting the network-manager service or stopping/starting networking doesn't help. With last update the enable/disable wireless doesn't work, once connected to wifi I can switch to a wired configuration any more. After restore the 'Edit connections...' option doesn't work. Does NM/Ubuntu only support Unity now? I tried hard to switch to Unity for 4 full weeks with 11.04, but I just couldn't my work done with all the chrome problems; it just killed my productivity. [Bug 508939] Re: Wrong colors when printing
The bug just hit me too, after upgrading to 11.04 Natty. eVince still prints PDFs fine, but the same PDFs printed from Acrobat (acroread) seems to screw any text or the areas of any images that should involve black ink. I am printing to an HP OfficeJet 7410. Using Acrobat 9.4.2-0natty-1 with hplip 3.11.1-2ubuntu2. The problem affects all PDF files I have tried from multiple sources. I tried all the print options in acroread, like 'let printer select colours', 'level-2 postscript', and even 'print as image', but these didn't help, the same problems with any area of the page that needs black occurs. Previously on Ubuntu Lucid I could print from acroread with hp-lip to this same printer fine, with no colour problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508939 Title: Wrong colors when printing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acroread/+bug/508939/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 340099] Re: Scan all pages option doesn't stop when all pages are done
Since I upgraded to 11.04 I've had this problem with gscan2pdf v0.9.31 when using libsane-perl front-end with HP OfficeJet 7410, where scanning never stops, just keeps adding empty pages, whether using flatbed or ADF. Following the tip above I ticked 'Batch scan' under Preferences - Advanced and the problem stopped. Is there any reason you wouldn't watch 'Batch scan' enabled by default? Following another tip above I changed to 'scamimage' front-end in Preferences and I also don't get the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340099 Title: Scan all pages option doesn't stop when all pages are done To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gscan2pdf/+bug/340099/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 340099] Re: Scan all pages option doesn't stop when all pages are done
Sorry, an important caveat to my previous report: Following the tip above I ticked 'Batch scan' under Preferences - Advanced and the problem stopped. Although the infinite empty pages problem stops, the last page in the ADF never get ejected and the scanner gets stuck. I have to press the 'Cancel' button on the scanner after every scan. So selecting 'Batch scan' for HP-7410 is only a partial solution. Following another tip above I changed to 'scamimage' front-end in Preferences and I also don't get the problem. So right now the only complete solution I have is to switch to using 'scanimage' front-end (also with the 'Batch Scan' option enabled - which seems to default on for 'scanimage' but default off for 'libsane-perl').

From reading the VirtualBox site they had the same problem, that none of the emulated sound cards would work with 64bit Windows 7/2008 as they are all too old chipsets. They solved it by adding a new sound card to Virtual Box ('Intel HD Audio'). But appears this remains a compatibility 'bug' for kvm/qemu. This bug has been marked invalid, however I don't think that is a sensible position; as the only viable fix can be a kvm/qemu change, as it seems unlikely anyone is going to write 64bit Windows drivers for the old unsupported chipsets that kvm/qemu provides. Most notable is Firefox and Thunderbird, their auto- complete drop-list won't work expect inside the original (smaller) pre- xrandr screen size. The resolution not being configurable by the vnc client is expected I think. I tried upgrading to the 2.6.30 kernel to reduce the many way Jaunty freezes, kernel oops, GPU lock-ups, and wireless module lock-ups that arrived with Jaunty. So many major regressions in a single production release! Problem is the 2.6.30 kernel is built with an old gcc and that cause problems with vmware server 2, which I need. So I downgraded and I am now trying the 'jauny-proposed' 2.6.28-12 kernel and -intel driver, together with the 'jaunty-backports' wireless (iwlagn) module. Things have been a bit better for ~24 hours. The Jaunty back-ports iwlagn module is still poked, but just causing kernel errors rather than total machine lock-up like the stock Jaunty one. I need to get work down so I have actually been using an ethernet cable to avoid wireless. The 'Oops' is a attached, but I don't get much evidence from the wedge since the system can't write anything to the logs. What appears to be in common is all the 'Oops' seem to related to 'sysfs'. From the info collected here could it be 'sysfs' causing all this grief? All of this grief appears to have arrive with Jaunty kernel, never seen anything like this with Intrepid. --- [25352.636072] usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 [...] [25357.816725] sdb: sdb1 [25357.927293] sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk [25357.927543] sd 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 [25358.551129] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0010 [25358.551135] IP: [8041be4b] rb_insert_color+0x3b/0x140 [25358.551146] PGD 7a5b9067 PUD 2509b067 PMD 0 [25358.551150] Oops: [#5] SMP [25358.551154] last sysfs file: /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.7/usb2/2-4/2-4:1.7/net/usb0/statistics/collisions ** Attachment added: Oops-on-USB-insertion.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26533862/Oops-on-USB-insertion.txt ** Summary changed: - Kernel Oops (NULL Pointer) in 2.6.28-12 + Kernel Oops (NULL Pointer) in 2.6.28-12 (sysfs problem?) ** Description changed: - The symptom was the 'CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor' quitting, and when + A range of kernel 'Oops' and eventually file system-failure crashes that + seem to involve 'sysfs'. + + One symptom was the 'CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor' quitting, and when re-started, quitting again immediately. I checked back through all the kernel logs in /var/log and found a total of 20 'Oops' starting from the day I upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04. Every ones of them mentions 'sysfs'. [Bug 328484] Re: [q45] displayport monitors not detected in Intrepid
I've using the DisplayPort successfully on my Lenovo X301 (Intel integrated graphics) with Jaunty (stock release). I'm using it via the Lenovo (i.e. Foxconn) DisplayPort-to-DVI cable though. Am I really using DisplayPort then? I had thought the cable does an active signal conversion so it is DisplayPort signally. I guess I am surprised it works if the Intel driver doesn't support DisplayPort. Anyway, with the converter the DisplayPort works great with Jaunty. It mostly worked with Intrepid too, but I used to get this phantom third monitor in the resolution control panel. Jaunty has cleaned that up too. Even on new laptops (I'm using an X301) there is no /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness The brightness is outside of the ibm-specific ACPI stuff and under each monitor, e.g. /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness There is a folder in 'VID' for each possible monitor output, including the built in LCD. [Bug 328484] Re: [igc4] displayport monitors not detected in Intrepid
Using stock Intrepid 8.10 Intel driver on a Lenovo X301 (Intel GMA X4500MHD) I can use the Displayport (with both mirrored and virtual monitor) however with the intel X drivers and compiz I get all sorts of missed re-draw events when windows launch. When windows launch they will be partially drawn. 'Wiping' another window over the area fixes the damage. This redrawing problem disappears if I switch back to the RGB cable (same BENQ 20 monitor) with compiz, or if I use the Displaylink cable with metacity. [Bug 293660] Re: tsclient always tries to reconnect
I've found reports of this bug back as far as 2005. I affects me too on 8.04 and 8.10. It appears that if rdesktop generates any output or perhaps exit code at all, then tsclient treats that a valid reason to reconnect. So, for example, if you request 24-bit colour and the remote computer only supports 16-bit, rdesktop outputs a warning (no problem). Later however, when rdesktop exits because you deliberately closed it, tsclient uses the earlier warning about colour depth to trigger an automatic reconnect. Very frustrating. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=86131 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3659984 The reconnect behaviour needs to be removed or disabled until it gets smarter about checking the rdesktop messages. [Bug 281289] Re: compiz crashes when switching resolution in a multi-monitor setup.
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 131679 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131679 I get the sample problem plus others with 8.10 Intrepid and compiz, however I don't any of the problems with unlocking described in bug #131679 of which this is supposed to be duplicate. Also, that unlocking bug apparently affects metacity as well as compiz, whereas the problem described here definitely only happens with using compiz (switching to metacity makes this bug go away). It may be the same crash/exit point, but I suggest it might not be the same cause, so perhaps a separate bug. I'm using an intel video card on an Lenovo X301. When switching back from two monitors to one with compiz enabled, I usually get logged out and need to log in again. I assume the X server is crashing? The workaround is to switch to metacity, change to one monitor, then switch back to compiz. When switching from one monitor to two with compiz enabled, only the original area remains under compiz control, the rest is blank or full off old images. Re-starting compiz gets it to take control of the whole area. Using compiz and switching to using mirror on external monitors with a small res, when switching back I often end up with no window manager at all. Just undecorated windows and no way to get keyboard focus anywhere. I suspect that the multi-monitor support may not be the root issue, it seems like any time you reduce the X resolution of the display, compiz+X can blow-up. Likewise compiz doesn't seem to notice when the X resolution of the display is increased. All the res/monitor switching is done with the Gnome 'Monitor Resolution Setting' applet. It seems like compiz is not really integrated with Gnome. I gather compiz is better integrated in KDE 4, so hopefully that integration is coming for Gnome? If it is useful, what and where should I collect error logs for posting here when this stuff happens? [Bug 135418] Re: black screen after resolution change with activated compiz
I get something similar to this whenever I increase the screen resolution with compiz enabled. The screen is not usually totally blank, it is full of patches of bit of windows (that aren't there) and the real windows aren't re-drawn but can still be interacted with - but only in the area of the old smaller resolution. Using a shell in that area to restart compiz (compiz --replace) gets things re-drawn and working again for the whole increased resolution. Increasing the resolution using metacity does not have this problem, Using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid amd64 architecture with Intel card on Lenovo X301 notebook. [Bug 326104] Re: [iG45] [Jaunty alpha3]Compiz issue: change to higher resolution cause distorted screen
There are similar bug reports like this one for 8.04, and 8.10, e.g. #249790. The common thread appears to be compiz on an Intel card (so presumably Intel X server). It could affect other combinations but the reports I've seen have all been on Intel cards. If *increasing* the resolution, compiz doesn't notice it, doesn't adjust or redraw the screen. Workaround is to restart compiz after the change ('compiz --replace'), or switch to metacity when making the change. If *decreasing* the resolution, compiz+X frequently - but not always - crashes and logs you out. The workaround is to switch to metacity while reducing the resolution, then switch back to compiz. [Bug 326104] Re: [iG45] [Jaunty alpha3]Compiz issue: change to higher resolution cause distorted screen
Not sure if this is the same thing but ATI users appear to be reporting similar problems with compiz and resolution changes in both 8.04 Hardy and 8.10 Intrepid, see #206998 and #205085. Again is these cases, switching to metacity makes the problems go away. Not surprisingly, patches to xrandr are implicated; so it might be versions of xrandr+compiz that is the root bad combination rather than the particular X server. Found a collection of bug reports (#132065 and duplicates) going way back where compiz also doesn't react if xrandr is use to rotate a screen (e.g. for tablets). Again restarting compiz corrects things. Again metacity notices the change and automatically adjusts. Does this mean compiz is where a fix is needed? [Bug 262817] Re: [NM 0.7 - intrepid] DHCP org.freedesktop.Dbus.Error.AccessDenied
I can confirm the same problem just upgraded a stock 8.04 Hardy with Network Manager 0.7 to 8.10 Intrepid. My wired and wireless networking stopped working. DHCP wasn't working for any interface. DHCP worked fine before the upgrade. I was able to manually configure a network interface, but was then blocked from reinstalling 'network manager' by 'network manager' itself claiming I was still 'offline' (the same thing that network manager uses to screw up bluetooth networking and firefox/thunderbird). After reading this bug: By changing the user from 'dhcp' to 'root' in the '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-dhcp-client.conf' I was able to get DHCP going again. Like the rest of us with this problem I have certainly never edited or even heard of the '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-dhcp-client.conf' file. Upgrading to 8.10 has been a huge disaster/regression for networking particularly for netbook users (most problems have been related to drivers used in the market leading netbooks like ASUS and Acer). I've just spent hours reading many many web pages and forum posts from the many suffering Ubuntu users who upgraded and found their networking stopped working, PPTP stopped working, DHCP stopping working, and a few other problems. Then, with no working network, they have extra problems trying to restore their systems. I read several angry venting people say they are giving up on Ubuntu completely and going back to XP. That's sad for all the hard work the Ubuntu team and community put in. 8.10 may have many improvements but I think it has been a net set-back for the Ubuntu/Linux community. Some sort of bold warning about the networking regressions should be added to the upgrade process or a fix applied to 8.10 otherwise more Ubuntu users will suffer if they upgrade their Hardy installations. Even if just a warning to wait for Jaunty or something. I am using the -10 proposed kernel on a Lenovo X301 with Intel 5300 wifi. So I should be using the iwlagn module. It is working for me and no more kernel messages. Still not perfect though, the wifi interface does not come up after a suspend or hibernate. I have to do a sudo ifconfig wlan0 up after any suspend or hibernate. I actually built it into a sleep.d script. Now I reliably get the interface back on resume/thaw. As long as I bring up the interface fast enough, NetworkManager does reconnect me, though it takes it 10-20 seconds to start reconnecting me. If I don't manually bring up the interface fast enough after a resume/thaw, I also find I need to restart NetworkManager to convince it to notice the wifi interface and reconnect. -- kernel 2.6.27-7-generic bug BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper/0/0x0100 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286285 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also see this problem with Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid (amd64), gnome-panel 2.24.1. I've tried locking and unlocking every way I can think of but still the placement and order shifts around. For me is it is particularly the notification area applet (2.24.1) that shifts around. Most other things seems to stay in place. Perhaps it is problematic as it is the only element that changes size? I notice it strikes in particular when the screen size changes - which makes sense I guess. It seems there is no sense of 'right-aligned' and no space-filling elements you can insert. [Bug 270997] Re: intrepid regression: rdesktop overrides window manger key binding even when -K is used
The -K option doesn't work for me either in rdesktop. Installing the older 1.6.0-0ubuntu2 version fixes the problem. The older version also fixes a - what I guess could be related - mouse grab problem. With the current version, gnome, and focus-follows-mouse, once the keyboard gets grabbed you also can't move the rdesktop window or drop-down gnome menus until you can get the focus to another window. Luckily you can minimise or close the rdesktop window or click on the workspace applet to escape. BTW, If that '-y' option has been added then the man page is now out of date as it doesn't mention it. Intrepid has been quite a regression for mixed Windows environments, with both a faulty pptp and rdesktop, neither of which is fixed yet in the official release. Not good if conversions from the Windows user base are any sort of priority. I added 'intrepid-proposed' to my update sources, pinned back to intrepid-updates by default (to stop everything upgrading), and upgraded just 'linux-generic' to the latest 2.6.27-10-generic version and have not seen this issue since. Linux shim 2.6.27-10-generic #1 SMP Fri Nov 21 19:19:18 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux I haven't experience any badness from this proposed kernel with a 8.10 on a Lenovo X301, YMMV. /etc/apt/preferences Package: * Pin: release a=intrepid-updates Pin-Priority: 900 Package: * Pin: release a=intrepid-proposed Pin-Priority: 400 Aaron. -- kernel 2.6.27-7-generic bug BUG: scheduling while atomic: swapper/0/0x0100 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286285 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 276943] Re: Resume from suspend doesn't not work on the Mobile 4 Series chipsets
I've read other threads like this, as I sometimes had the same problem on an Lenovo X301. The workaround for me was to switch to just one cpu core before suspending/hibernating. When you resume/thaw, give it a few seconds and switch the other core back on. This worked for me. The theory is that there is a multi-threading issue somewhere which can affect multi-core CPU, perhaps just these low-power ones. You can automate the fix with a script in /etc/pm/sleep.d/, see thread for example: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=959712page=2 Aaron. -- Resume from suspend doesn't not work on the Mobile 4 Series chipsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 232173] Re: EeePC internal microphone does not function out-of-the-box with Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
The comment above applies to both the EeePC 70x and EeePC 900 series (I can't speak for the EeePC 901 and EeePC 1000). They both do not have working microphones on a Ubuntu 8.04 install. However each has different sound hardware and a different fix. EeePC 70x - Adding options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base is a reported fix. EeePC 900 - Adding options snd-hda-intel model=auto to /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base is a reported partial fix to get the microphone hardware operating. However most people still cannot record reliably or with any volume. A full fix is not yet determined. The microphone done work under Xandros and XP. [Bug 199245] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crash opening any window: BadWindow X error under Xvnc
I experienced the same problem with gnome-settings-daemon using Xvnc (vnc4server 4.1.1+xorg1.0) with Ubuntu 8.04 desktop (all updates as at 15 June 2008). I found that disabling just the keyboard plug-in for gnome-settings-daemon, and logging in again, gave immediate relief. For the other dimwits like me, you can stop searching for the '/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/keyboard' folder in the file system now. People are referring to a tree of settings that you can change using the 'gconf-editor' application. Run that application and untick the 'active' setting for 'keyboard'. -- gnome-settings-daemon crash opening any window: BadWindow X error under Xvnc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 219381] Re: F-spot encountered a fatal error
I can confirm the same error. Before the 10 updates today F-spot ran but crashed on exit. After applying the updates today F-spot crashes on start with the error reported here. One of the 10 updates was 'libart'. From reading the changes I was hoping it would solve the crash-on-exit error. Not at all sure, but maybe it could be involved in this new problem? Is there a log somewhere where I can see the last 10 updates that were applied? [Bug 200304] Re: [Hardy] network-manager-pptp requires system restart but will not tell you
I am using 8.04 beta 4 and I have the same problem. I was reading how-to for ages trying work out why the VPN entries I could configure, didn't appear anywhere. Then, after I haven't to reboot, then they appeared and I could use them.
