[Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-06-08 Thread Adys
@Vlado
That's 275.09. You should read more carefully -- it was fixed in 275.09.04.
That version is not available through the nvidia drivers website.

Be aware that ubuntu has a broken glx installation, so do not be
surprised when you install the official nvidia drivers that just
uninstalling them doesn't work.

[Bug 706900] Re: Dolphin servicemenu installation script depends ruby. Ruby is not installed as default

2011-02-11 Thread Adys
Here's a python port of the servicemenuinstallation ruby script. This
avoids the dependency on ruby altogether as Python is installed on all
ubuntu systems and then some.

Note, it's mostly untested, and I've no idea what the hell is happening in the
last three lines. If a dolphin dev could pick this up, it'd be great.
There's another deinstallation ruby script which is much shorter and can be
easily ported as well.

[Bug 326462] Re: gnome-appearance-properties shows html garbage on warning

2009-02-07 Thread Adys
I'm afraid I didn't figure out in which cases it just shows New themes
have been installed, and in which cases it asks the user if they want
to apply the new theme, it looks inconsistent. But yes, it's definitely
reproducible.

I'm using the English locale.

Flash on Firefox under 64bits is an absolute disaster, it leaks memory
and either crashes the browser or gives a gray square.

Someone needs to work on this. It's been going on for a year.

FF3.0.5, Flash 10.

[Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically

2008-12-23 Thread Adys
Reopening.

I can confirm this is happening again. The only app I can think which
would be doing that is flash - I had at least one page with flash open
every time in firefox when it happened (and it happened a good dozen of
times), and I see other reporters using opera/epiphany at the time it
happens.

Switching tty does not fix it.
Switching desktop does not fix it.
Restarting X seems to be the only way to fix it, although suggestions would be
good on something less annoying.

Keyboard input is still perfectly fine.
Mouse pointer still follows in X - the cursor is there and moving, sometimes
changing when hovering a text area and so on. In an application replacing the
cursor (tested with a few games under Wine), the cursor will be present where
it died in the application and never move - the X cursor will be duplicate and
not replaced when hovering the app.
Keyboard input works perfectly.

Dual monitor 1680x1050, nVidia 9800GTX+ proprietary 180.11 drivers. Xinerama
enabled.
Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :0.0. also appears when starting
GUI apps, although I don't think that's related.

A second usb mouse is connected, and behaves exactly like the first one.

[Bug 227452] [NEW] Tweak/Merge nautilus search and selection features

2008-05-06 Thread Adys
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus currently has a useful ctrl-s feature that selects certain
files in the current folder. However, as pointed out here*, there is no
real way to do anything with the result. Here is my proposition to tweak
the process.

Similar to the quicksearch in firefox/gedit, a small hidden bar pops up
on shortcut and lets the user find files given a pattern in the current
folder. Two tick boxes are present, one to force case matching, and the
other to hide non matching files. Hiding non matching files just results
into files being hidden until they match the pattern or the pattern is
cleared. This box should be off by default - someone accidentally hiding
files who doesn't know about this could get annoyed.

I suppose this could easily get nice plugins such as an advanced search
with further options such as searching further folders for files (=
list view), etc. I think such a feature would be a great asset and would
give Nautilus a lot of the love it needs**.

Side note; Think of differentiating search and foldersearch the way they
are differentiated in most web browsers today: Page search is fast,
gives what you want instantly. Full search is slower and the results
need to be doublechecked.

Apologies if this is the wrong section, unsure where wishlist items are
posted.

[Bug 224911] [NEW] Nautilus can't handle big amount of files

2008-04-30 Thread Adys
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Alright, I can't seem to find this bug anywhere, but Nautilus can't for
the love of anything handle big amount of files (15000+). I timed the
opening of a folder of 160 000 folders on my desktop, 2.3GHz 2048MiB
RAM:

Konqueror: 77 seconds
Windows Vista 64bit explorer: ~3 minutes
Nautilus: About 20 minutes (!!)

Why does it need to be so slow? Why can't Nautilus get the file list and
display the first x items? Generally someone opening a folder with a
huge amount of files only cares about a couple of files. Maybe handle
big amount of data kind of the way Gedit does.

And of course this is reflected when browsing files with the embedded
browser when you need to open, upload something or anything alike.

[Bug 224911] Re: Nautilus can't handle big amount of files

I was actually looking at a directory of xml files. I just tried with a
lesser amount on my laptop computer (i386, 512 ram) and it still took
well over 5 minutes to open a directory of 60 000 xml files - nautilus
just loads the folder meanwhile and doesn't let me see any file until
it's fully loaded.

I'm afraid I can't help in any step to reproduce the problem as it's
been happening on all my computers since weeks. If you want any further

Happens a LOT less since last update. Only happened twice since then;
which is probably caused by something else.

[Bug 213689] [NEW] ff3b5 segfaulting a lot, fails to start under valgrind

2008-04-07 Thread Adys
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Since the update to FF3b5, Firefox is segfaulting extremely often -
either during page loads, or on POSTs. I tried reinstalling, purging,
new profile, etc etc. After doublecheck, the official non-Ubuntu version
of Firefox is unaffected.

I attached the very short log provided by Valgrind. It totally fails to
start under it, I've never used Valgrind before though so if I'm doing
something wrong, do tell. Seeing how often and rapidly it happens, it's
100% reproducible though still random.

Ubuntu 8.04 beta, amd64

directly related to Pidgin trying to play sound but not being able to -
due to PulseAudio implementation.

I am totally unable to delete an old SDL-1.3 folder, or move it or
anything else, like if it was owned by root - except that the properties

Second time was when going out of suspend mode. Once again, blank screen.

[Bug 200392] [NEW] Extreme memory leak in Pidgin on message reception

2008-03-09 Thread Adys
Public bug reported:

Pidgin sits usually between 10mb and 12mb memory usage, but since a very
recent update (today, 9th March), as soon as I recieve a message, the
memory usage jumps within seconds to nearly a gigabyte.

Always reproducible on my computer. Tested with no other programs
running.

2008-03-09 Thread Adys
Ok, I found what was wrong after messing in .purple/prefs.xml

pref name='sound'
pref name='while_status' type='int' value='1'/
/pref

The default value of 1 works. Changing this to

pref name='sound'
pref name='while_status' type='int' value='3'/
/pref

will make the program die on message reception.

[Bug 197342] [NEW] Menu items unavailable if file has changed

2008-03-01 Thread Adys
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Certain menu items (notably all the ones in Search menu) become
unavailable if file has changed, and gedit proposes the user to reload
the file. This can be extremely annoying when working on files changing
constantly, such as logs.

Steps to reproduce:
(
-1 Open a text file with gedit
-2 Modify and save it through a third party program (such as nano)
-3 Focus on gedit again, a message warning you the file has change and can be
reloaded appears. Some menu items are unavailable as long as you don't answer
the warning.
