[Bug 1548101] Re: iwlwifi kernel module failing wifi connection: Microcode SW error detected

2020-09-28 Thread Chorca
Seems I spoke too soon, tested with Kernels 5.4.0-47 and -48, and with
both firmware versions, I get the same iwlwifi errors, the card resets
constantly, once or twice per minute and causes loss of connectivity and
other odd delays in the system. Not sure if driver or firmware issues.
1.187 seems to be the oldest release and the firmware the card is
listing is the same between both 1.187 and 1.187.3

[Bug 1548101] Re: iwlwifi kernel module failing wifi connection: Microcode SW error detected

2020-09-28 Thread Chorca
Having the same errors here. Downgrading to linux-firmware 1.187 from
1.187.3 fixed the errors for me, appears the issue is in the updates
release.

2018-09-10 Thread Chorca
My issue seems to be localized to only the right speaker on a Thinkpad
x270, and the issue happens in Windows as well, so it may be due to a
blown speaker on my laptop.

[Bug 1786195] Re: broken audio/muffled, no system audio

2018-09-09 Thread Chorca
Having what I believe is the same issue. Internal Intel HDA audio is
distorted at normal maximum volume on Xubuntu, at 100% and not above.
Seems to be distorted at lower volume levels as well. System sounds are
distorted as well as sounds from media applications. This is recent to
me as it seems to have been working fine less than a month ago.

Same issue here, I am unable to run the pactl load-module module-
bluetooth-discover after some latest updates (over the past week). I
verified the module is installed, and it is shown in a 'list modules',
so should be loadable, but it refuses to load properly.

This issue has persisted through at least 3 released Ubuntu versions.

It seems to be a bit more complex than simply running that.. the
bluetooth device needs to be restarted as well (I cycle the wireless
switch on my laptop) and then the device connected/disconnected a few
times in order to get it to successfully connect to Pulseaudio.

[Bug 1199059] Re: blueman and pulse's module-bluetooth-discover (A2DP audio sink devices failed to work with bluetoothd : Unable to select SEP in system log.)

2014-05-21 Thread Chorca
It seems some of the issues I was having seem to have stemmed from being
in standby mode and resuming thereafter.

From a clean boot, here's my current steps/output to get the BT device
working:

After that, I get AD2P audio available on my headset. I tried this same
procedure with an AD2P-only speaker setup, and it works as well after
selecting Connect - Audio Sink in blueman.

The interesting thing here is that it seems to load this module during
startup, then unload it again a few seconds later. Curious as to why
that might be, but I agree, that does seem to resolve the issue. I'll
check how it works during standby/sleep and report as well.

[Bug 1199059] Re: PulseAudio doesn't load bluetooth modules automatically(orig.: A2DP audio sink devices failed to work with bluetoothd : Unable to select SEP in system log.)

2014-01-22 Thread Chorca
I'm not sure this is just bluez and not a little of pulseaudio, but i'm
still not an expert.

I pulled the source for bluez and recompiled without the
enable_audio_sources.patch file using quilt:
apt-get source bluez
quilt pop -a
quilt delete enable_audio_sources.patch
quilt push -a
debuild -us -uc
dpkg -i *.deb

This gets me audio. I've commented out everything in
/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf to leave it all to defaults. Here's what I
currently have to do to get working audio (after installing the patch-
modified version as above):

1. Computer start
2. Attempt connection to paired A2DP device. Fails (bluetoothd: Unable to
select SEP in syslog)
3. pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover (endpoints registered in syslog)
4. Attempt connection to paired A2DP device. Success! Pulseaudio device created
and available.
5. Open Pulseaudio volume control (to assign default audio output device).
Pulseaudio crash!:

6. Attempt connection to paired A2DP device. Fails (bluetoothd: Unable to
select SEP in syslog)
7. pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover (endpoints registered in syslog)
8. Attempt connection to paired A2DP device. Success! Pulseaudio device created
and available.
9. Open Pulseaudio volume control (to assign default audio output device). Can
finally open and assign output device.

Pulseaudio does seem to crash, as I receive a crash report notification
after step 5, and the Volume Control loses connection to the PA server.

All the while, blueman experiences connection issues to the server,
particularly after Unable to select SEP, though that may be poor error
handling on blueman's side.

This is on 13.04. I could upgrade to 13.10, but not sure if that will do
anything for this.

[Bug 1180120] [NEW] USB keyboard does not get current repeat rate/delay settings

2013-05-14 Thread Chorca
Public bug reported:

Having a problem with a USB keyboard on my Thinkpad. I have my repeat/delay
rates on my keyboard set to a faster speed than normal, and it works great with
the laptop's internal keyboard. However, upon plugging in an external USB
keyboard, that device does not get updated with the new repeat/delay rates. The
internal keyboard retains it's higher speed, however the external keyboard is
at the default rates.
Going into XFCE settings and toggling the slider back and forth will then apply
the keyboard rate settings.
The 'xset r rate 270 55' seems to work to properly set the keyboard rate, but
it will revert back to the default slower settings when the USB device is
replugged.

Ideally, XFCE or whatever is responsible for setting the rate on
external devices would be called and set the rate when the USB device is
detected and added to the system.

This bug seems to be related to this older, and fixed, bug, however it was
affecting Gnome. Not sure if XFCE has a different mechanism and has to be fixed
in a similar way for this to work properly:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/427168

That bug mentions that another bug was opened against Gnome here:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=610245

That was fixed, however, it does not appear to affect XFCE, so the same
issue exists.

Reproduction procedure:
1. Set keyboard rate away from defaults (I am using 270 for delay, 55 for rate)
2. Verify keyboard is operating properly at new speed
3. Plug in USB keyboard
4. See that USB keyboard operates at default speed, while first keyboard
operates at faster speed.
5. Change rate slider back and forth, (270 - 280 - 270)
6. See that USB keyboard now operates at faster speed as the initial keyboard
does

System information:
Lenovo Thinkpad X220
Ubuntu 12.10
xfce4-settings:
  Installed: 4.10.0-1ubuntu2

I can gather any logs necessary for troubleshooting this issue.

** Affects: xfce4-settings (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 392122] Re: [Karmic] dim display when idle only dims but doesn't restore the previous value when not idle anymore

2009-11-01 Thread Chorca
This is happening to me too, on a Dell Latitude D510, with an Intel
915GM. The backlight level can be turned up fully and the OSD reacts
correctly. However, when the display dims on idle and drops to around
half brightness or less, un-idling will result in the display brightness
only increasing one level instead of back to the previous level. It will
properly return to the previous brightness level when

[Bug 436729] Re: [Dell Inc. Inspiron 910] suspend/resume failure [non-free: wl]

2009-10-23 Thread Chorca
I also have an SDHC card installed when suspending. For me, choosing
Suspend on the menu caused my USB devices to power down, and the mouse
to lockup and the system to hard-freeze, requiring a hard power off to
resolve.

[Bug 350767] Re: New Notification Icon disappears at random, no way to access pidgin.

2009-03-31 Thread Chorca
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pidgin

Ubuntu Jaunty, latest updates as of the report.

- Pidgin's new icon using the indicator-applet (white letter) seems to
disappear at times randomly. You can be using the machine normally, then look
up to find that it's disappeared. Pidgin is still running in the background, as
ps ax will show and it will not allow you to run another instance (just gives
the wait cursor and then goes back to normal, does not raise buddy list or
replace icon) This requires a kill command to be used on the process, then
restarting pidgin to gain access to it again. I don't know for sure if this is
an indicator-applet issue or not, as I haven't seen any crashes pop up about
either.

+ Enabling Pidgin's internal icon is a work around for now, as you can use
+ it to access the buddy list when the other icon disappears.

Went ahead and did some diagnosing as per the Debugging GPM wiki
article. I started GPM in verbose mode and set it to log to a file. I'm
posting the file as an attachment, as well as the relative event lines
in the comment here.

This is what happens when the AC is unplugged:

[Bug 274197] [NEW] GPM Icon locks on AC Status change

2008-09-24 Thread Chorca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Since I installed Intrepid Alpha 6 on my Dell Latitude D510 (i915 chipset) I've
had issues with the GPM icon in the tray. It seems that when a power-related
event happens, (Unplug/plug AC power, and at login,) the tray icon locks up for
approx 1 minute, 22 seconds. Clicking has no response, no tooltip window shows
when hovered over. Brightness controls operate, but the OSD for brightness does
not display.
After the requisite 1 minute, 22 seconds, the brightness OSD suddenly shows up
if brightness has been adjusted during the hung period, and the icon then shows
the correct status. I've checked HAL with lshal -m, and the events are
instantaneous there; the screen brightness toggle when plugging/unplugging
mains works properly as well.

I'm not sure what is being queried here, but it seems to be hanging on
some sort of action; it only happens on AC plug/unplug, not on battery
remove/insert.

Using 2.6.27-4-generic kernel.

[Bug 153489] Re: Thinkpad Buttons on R31 don't work anymore

2008-09-14 Thread Chorca
This issue is still occurring in Intrepid Alpha 5 with a Thinkpad R32.
In Alpha 4, Mute button will mute in hardware, pressing a volume key
will unmute. Hotkey-Setup only seems to be able to see the volume
up/down keys, mute key does nothing when pressed while setting up the
key.

Latest updates with Alpha 5 do not see the buttons at all. They will not
detect any presses of the ThinkPad button, Volume up/down/mute, or LCD
brightness up/down. No OSD or other info is shown.

[Bug 195993] [NEW] Install CD dumps to busybox after toggling floppy

2008-02-26 Thread Chorca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: casper

This issue occurred with both Alpha 4 and Alpha 5 CDs.

I downloaded the Alpha 5 ISO and MD5summed it, it checked out. Burned
the image with Brasero, and rebooted the machine.

This machine is a Gigabyte GA-7NNXP motherboard with a Nvidia FX-5200
card, 1GB RAM, ITE RAID controller, Sil SATA, and an Athlon 2800+ Socket
A CPU.

I boot the CD as usual, and it comes up with the language select screen.
I select English, and then select Install. It begins to boot the CD,
going to the usplash screen with the bar that moves back and forth,
where the kernel boots. It then begins to look at my floppy drive. I
don't have any disk in it, but it tries to read the non-existent disk 19
times. Immediately afterwards, going to a BusyBox screen with an
(initramfs) prompt. I've included a screenshot.

The interesting thing, is that if there IS a floppy in the drive, no
matter what floppy, it'll boot. It toggles the floppy a bunch, and then
proceeds to boot the CD properly. If I disable the floppy drive in the
BIOS, it seems to try to access the drive even though it's disabled,
then dumps me back to the same BusyBox prompt.

I've tested this with the Gutsy release CD. It toggles the floppy drive
half as many times and slower, but proceeds to boot properly after
finding no floppy. Hardy simply dumps to the BusyBox prompt.

('toggling the floppy' meaning an attempt to access the drive, the
'tick-tick' a drive makes when there is no disc)

2007-11-18 Thread Chorca
Is tracker-stats showing files indexed?

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=3581112postcount=15
Seems to have a similar problem of showing items being indexed but returning no
results.

[Bug 163658] Re: LG Laptop hangs HARD (in Gutsy, but also in Feisty)

2007-11-18 Thread Chorca
Does the system seem to continue working in the background, or are you
able to SSH into the system while it is locked up?

There are some reported issues with Xorg hanging and blocking all input
while the kernel continues to run in the background.

[Bug 61034] Re: Cannot add printer

2006-09-21 Thread Chorca
First off, this bug seems somewhat related to the older bug, though the error
returned is a different number.
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-cups-manager/+bug/6711 -
this is the older bug report.

I am able to reproduce this. I have the latest updates to Edgy as of
this posting, and i have gone through a few logs.

Upon running sudo gnome-cups-manager in a command line, it lists the
printers, and automatically detects and attempts to install my Canon
iP4000. However, after clicking the final button, this error shows in
the display:

Selected ppd file = foomatic:Canon-BJ-100-bj200.ppd
Selected ppd file = foomatic:Canon-iP4000-gutenprint.ppd

** (gnome-cups-add:10374): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status
1280

I went ahead and took a look at the CUPS logs, and here's what they show
after an attempt to install the printer:

access_log:

error_log:

file nor the driver database entry contains sufficient data to build a PPD file.

E [21/Sep/2006:08:48:41 -0400] PID 10419 (/usr/lib/cups/daemon/cups-driverd)
stopped with status 9!

I have searched the internets and have not found any useful information
on this bug. There is more than one post in the forum on this,
aparrantly it worked back in Dapper, and after upgrading to Edgy, it has
not worked properly.

[Bug 61034] Re: Unable to add printer in Edgy

2006-09-21 Thread Chorca
Upon further investigation, i attempted using the web interface to
administer CUPS.

After selecting the port to add, it gives a list of drivers for the
iP4000. There are three to choose from:

1. Canon iP4000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0 (en)
2. Canon iP4000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0 (en)
3. Canon iP4000 Foomatic/gutenprint (recommended) (en)

There is no mistake, the first two are identical, i got the same results
after trying them - they both added the printer and printed test pages
flawlessly. However, upon attempting to add the printer with the #3
driver, the web interface returns with

Unable to copy PPD file!

This appears to be a problem with a file missing. Adding the printer
though the gnome-cups-manager interface works perfectly when using one
of the first two drivers, so-called High Quality Image (Gutenprint)
(en) in the dropdown, however, the gutenprint (recommended)
(Suggested) driver does not work and returns the 1280 error.

If the (recommended) driver is old/missing/misnamed, would that be the
source of this bug?

[Bug 37985] Re: Canon PIXMA iP4000 Printing Issues

2006-09-21 Thread Chorca
Using today's Edgy updates, the printer is working fine, printouts are
perfect. However, the (recommended) (Suggested) driver is missing from
the package i believe, CUPS errors out when attempting to install it,
however, the High Quality Drivers both work fine.

Confirmed. P4 3.6Ghz on Intel D955XBK. No 2.6.17 kernel has booted
properly, instantly panics. 2.6.15 will boot fine.
