I tested this today against K3b 2.0.3 and normalize-audio 0.7.7 and now
it seems to work.

[Bug 1619868] [NEW] HP Scanjet 3670 is very slow when scanning at 600-1200 dpi

2016-09-03 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

Note: this bug report is the reincarnation of Bug #703322. The original
bug remained unsolved for 5 years, and then expired.

Binary package hint: simple-scan

Scanner model: HP ScanJet 3670
Ubuntu-release: 16.04 LTS

Relevant packages and versions:

libsane 1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2
simple-scan 3.20.0-0ubuntu1
xsane 0.999-3ubuntu1

When I use Simple Scan with "scan as photo" option at higher
resolutions, the scanning process is very slow: on 600 dpi, it takes 5-6
minutes; on 1200 dpi it would take about an hour to scan a page (to be
honest, I cancelled the process about halfway).

In contrast, if I use xsane with "factory settings" + 1200 dpi, the
whole process takes about 6 minutes.

[Bug 1617427] [NEW] some screensavers produce freezes when stopped

2016-08-26 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu MATE 16.04, as far as I can remember, the rss-glx
package was installed by default.

Reproduction:

1. Start the screensaver settings dialog: System / Preferences / Look
and Fell / Screensaver.

2. From the list on the left pick an rss-glx screensaver. I did not do
this test with all of them, but the following ones produce the freeze
(in order of seriousness): plasma, biof, pixelcity, colorfire.

3. Let the preview run for a short while (~10 seconds was always
sufficient in my case, YMMV).

4. Try to exit the dialog or switch to another screensacer (blank
screen).

5. One of two things happen:

a) The screensaver window freezes up, preview animation included.
Looking az the offending screensaver process in top/htop will show a
high CPU usage. Also, the offending process can not be stopped with
SIGTERM, you likely will need to use SIGKILL on it.

b) Complete system freeze. (I couldn't even switch to tty via CTRL-
ALT-F1) About 30-40% of biof and pixelcity tests resulted in a complete
freeze, and colorfire seems to consistently produce a system freeze. In
colorfire's case, I had to temporarily uninstall rss-glx to be able to
set the screensaver dialog to a state that will not produce a system
freeze on just about any action that would normally result in colorfire
stopping.

I was able to reproduce the bug with the above steps with all 4 window
compositor settings available in MATE Tweak, so Compiz / Marco does not
seem to be the source of the problem.

The bug also affects normal screensaver / screen lock use. I originally
encountered the bug by setting the screensaver to random, then I noticed
that whenever I interrupt pixelcity, it freezes and I don't get an
unlock dialog.

The phenomena described above also may be several separate bugs (one per
mentioned screensaver).

Also, some existing bugs (namely: #114783, #375819, #424782) seem to
describe similar problems.

[Bug 1599331] Re: mate-screensaver won't start when using Marco + Compton

2016-07-14 Thread Csipak Attila
Looks like I found the upstream bug report on GitHub:

(Couldn't link it into this ticket though, Launchpad does not recognize
it somehow...)

Also the Ubuntu MATE Community Forum has a thread on this topic, too:

[Bug 1599331] Re: mate-screensaver won't start when using Marco + Compton

2016-07-14 Thread Csipak Attila
This bug also may interfere with power management logic (mate-power-management).
I set the session idle timeout to 1 minute (+blank screen instead a
screensaver), display sleep timeout to 1 minute and computer sleep timeout to
10 minutes. (Note: I'm using a desktop machine, so battery events / power
source states do not interfere.)
Using Marco+Compton, the fade+reawaken glitch described above can be seen after
1:00. Then after 2:00 and 11:00 minutes, nothing happens.
Using Compiz, the blank screen kicks in at 1:00, then the screen sleep at 2:00,
then the computer sleep at 11:00, just as it should in the other case.

[Bug 1602009] [NEW] [needs-packaging] gcompris-qt

2016-07-11 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

GCompris is a high quality educational software suite comprising of
numerous activities for children aged 2 to 10.

URL: http://gcompris.net/
License: GNU General Public License
Notes: GCompris GTK+ is already packaged under the package name gcompris, but
the upstream developer decided to rewrite the full application in QT Quick back
in 2014 (see: http://gcompris.net/newsall-en.html#2014-02-09 ). The original
GTK+ version is already labeled as legacy in their online documentation.
Meanwhile, the QT rewrite is nearing completion, and it has already been
released for various platforms (including Android and iOS).

[Bug 1553662] [NEW] do not bring main window to top and steal focus when startup finishes

2016-03-05 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

Since GnuCash startup takes some time, after starting the application I
usually continue doing something else, opening other windows, etc. Then
about a dozen seconds later GnuCash startup finishes and brings the main
window to top, and also steals the focus from whichever window used it
beforehand. This is annoying and also a bad UI practice.

[Bug 1314924] Re: Adressbox Entries unreadable: Grey/Black Mask overlaying text

2015-08-20 Thread Csipak Attila
I can confirm the bug Jaap Woldringh mentioned.

Also, some small help on how to reset gfx.xrender.enabled to true to
work around it: look in ~/.mozilla/firefox/hashcode.default/prefs.js
for the same settings that can be configured via about:config. (It may
not be trivial to everyone how to do this when Firefox itself is not
functional due to the error.)

wrote a longer description of why this behavious is flawed and how it
should be fixed in my opinion. Feel free to mark it as a duplicate.

[Bug 1016603] Re: table design view handles field length non-intuitively

2015-07-26 Thread Csipak Attila
** Description changed:

Table design view handles field length non-intuitively when picking
  different field types. For example:

  1. Choose VARBINARY field type, the Length input field below gets filled with
2147483647.
  2. Now pick CHAR field type, the Length input field remains the same
(2147483647).
- 3. Pick SMALLINT, the Length chanes to 5.
+ 3. Pick SMALLINT, the Length changes to 5.

This behaviour _may_ be acceptable (some field types can have min-max
lenghts, others are defined to be fixed length, etc.), but for the
  novice user it appears confusing.

  I suggest that:

  - For fixed length field types (TINYINT, BOOLEAN, REAL, etc.) the Lenth
field should be _visibly_ disabled (grayed out). Right now, it is
disabled, but this is not indicated by any shading, coloring, whatever.
- The average user won't understand, why the Length is not changeable.
+ The average user won't understand, why the Length field is disabled.

  - When field types with min-max length restrictions are chosen, the GUI
should clearly indicate the length limits. (Do not expect the novice
user to read into the SQL standard for this.)

  - Have a default length value for every field type, and overwrite the
length with it whenever the field type is changed. IMHO this is
- especially useful when the user is creating the table the first time and
- skimming through the varius field types. Accidentally assigning a CHAR
- type length to be 2147483647 instead of 100 (see 1-2 steps above) should
- be avoided. I guess that there are scenarios where the current behaviour
+ especially useful when the user is creating a new the table and skimming

+ length to be 2147483647 instead of 100 (see 1-2 steps above) should be

(only touch the length value when changing to a field type, for which
- the current length value is too high/low) is only safer when modifiing
+ the current length value is too high/low) is only safer when modifying
an existing table structure - changing a CHAR field to VARCHAR for
example. But that small safety is also lost after the user accidentally
- picks a BOOLEAN or a VARBINARY type. So I guess if the we're creating a
+ picks a BOOLEAN or a VARBINARY type. So I guess if we're creating a
brand new table column, then the length should be overwritten by a
default tied to the field type, whenever the field type changes. And if
we're in the middle of editing an existing column, the GUI should always
remember the original length value and try to set it as a default,
whenever a different field type is selected, and the length constraints
of that field type allow the original length value. Otherwise it should
set the length to the value that is closest to the original length.

[Bug 1033598] Re: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being

2015-07-22 Thread Csipak Attila
@Tom Peterson

And when the problems with this approach are clearly articulated (thank
you, aarre), the official response focuses solely on ways to increase
the bug heat rather than on ways to actually solve the problem.

Dear Tom, what exactly makes you think that my response is official in
any sense?

FYI, let me tell you that I'm generally from the same breed of everyday Ubuntu
community member, just as you are. Except maybe that instead complaining and
blaming fellow users I:
- posted the original bug report 3 years ago,
- did some cleanup of duplicate bug reports,
- gave some tips for others on bug heat, increasing the likelihood of getting
this noticed by official maintainers.

BTW, did you ever consider subscription to bug mail?

While Aarre is completely right about the importance of this bug, I
don't really see how ranting and blaming others solves anything or
brings this bug closer to being noticed.

Also please note that so far, there's no official response for this bug
report. (Official meaning a statement originating from the maintainers
of this project.) It's just us talking and giving a hand to each other,
out of sheer altruism - y'know community.

I found the upstream bug in Keepass's SourceForge bug tracker:

The upstream bug was fixed in 2.27.

(I also tried to add the upstream bug to this ticket, but this is not
possible currently, see Bug #1448469.)

(+6 heat / duplicate).

Also, you can further increase heat by subscribing to bug mail (+2 heat

are subscribet to bug mail - if the remaining 8 people subscribes,
that's +16 heat in itself.

[Bug 1033598] Re: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being

2015-05-07 Thread Csipak Attila
Rick: the bug's current heat is 22 (now that I marked another bug as a
duplicate to this one). Right now, ordered by heat descending, this
places the bug on a 100+th place in this project.

This roughly translates to: Users don't really care about this issue,
or at least not so much as to file bug reports or searching for existing
ones and marking them as affects me and subscribing to bug mail. Well,
relatively.

(To learn more about bug heat, click the heat value just below the title
of the bug on the right.)

[Bug 1308047] Re: Installation of libapache2-mod-mono hangs

2015-03-27 Thread Csipak Attila
The bug is also mentioned elsewhere, with a somewhat different
workaround method:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/135547/how-do-i-set-up-mod-mono-on-11-10

(See comments under accepted answer.)

http://blog.xyzio.com/2014/02/05/libapache2-mod_mono-install-freezing-
during-install-on-ubuntu-at-digital-ocean/

The workaround for this is to open another session and restart/reload
apache:

root@xyzio:/home/xyzio# service apache2 reload
root@xyzio:/home/xyzio# service apache2 restart

Any opinions on which workaround is preferable (stop or reload+restart)?

[Bug 862728] Re: Please stop defaulting to VCS=bzr

2015-03-09 Thread Csipak Attila
Soren: let me just quote the official etckeeper documentation on this
topic:

By default, etckeeper uses git. This choice has been carefully made;
git is the VCS best supported by etckeeper and the VCS users are most
likely to know.

[ It's possible that your distribution has chosen to modify etckeeper so
its default VCS is not git -- if they have please complain to them, as
they're making things unnecessarily difficult for you, and causing
unnecessary divergence of etckeeper installations. You should only be
using etckeeper with a VCS other than git if you're in love with the
other VCS. ]

Source: http://etckeeper.branchable.com/README/

Also:

Setting a repository up at install-time is a feature of etckeeper
upstream (and a good one).

Bug #482417

BTW, Bug #482417 is generally complaining about the default bzr setting,
too.

It would be so nice to be able to either choose VCS at install-time or
make the same choice via package selection (separate packages for
etckeeper-git, etckeeper-bzr, etckeeper-darcs etc + if I don't want any
preconfiguration, I could just install an etckeeper-common package).

[Bug 1414494] Re: reboot after shutdown Gigabyte GA-P41T-D3 motherboard, Intel G41 Express chipset

2015-02-03 Thread Csipak Attila
Looks like today's ubuntu updates fixed the bug, which is strange. The
/var/log/apt/history.log entry produced by the update is:

Start-Date: 2015-02-03 22:51:31
Commandline: aptdaemon role='role-commit-packages' sender=':1.136'

End-Date: 2015-02-03 22:53:23

At first glance, I thought that the 3.13.0-45 kernel version fixed it.
But then I rebooted into kernel version 3.13.0-44, and couldn't
reproduce the original bug, neither. What caused the bug and what solved
it?

Meanwhile I could reproduce the bug on mainline kernel version 3.19-rc6.

Also I noticed that shutdown -H (halt) does work, only shutdown -P

[Bug 1414494] Re: reboot after shutdown Gigabyte GA-P41T-D3 motherboard, Intel G41 Express chipset

2015-01-31 Thread Csipak Attila
Since we are not sure if this is a kernel issue, I added upstart to the
affected projects.

If someone from the upstart maintainers is able to cross out upstart as
the source of the bug, then I will open an upstream bug report against
the latest kernel.

To penalvch: halting instead of poweroff is not really a workaround
IMHO. (Maybe you meant shutdown -H, then power off via power button?)

[Bug 1414494] Re: reboot after shutdown Gigabyte GA-P41T-D3 motherboard, Intel G41 Express chipset

2015-01-29 Thread Csipak Attila
I attached /var/log/apt/history.log which covers January. Some
explanation on 2015.01.25-26 entries:

2015-01-25 11:05:48
Bunch of updates, looks like it was initiated by Software Updater. I didn't
spot anything closely related to the bug, but then, I'm not really an expert on
this...

2015-01-25 22:57:34
This was shortly after I encountered the bug. I googled around, looked at some
other existing bug tickets, and found some general advice on how to check BIOS
via the fwts tool. Unfortunately, I didn't found any official updates for my
motherboard on Gigabyte's website, and also didn't really grok most of fwts's
output.

Start-Date: 2015-01-25 23:25:47
I switched from the nvidia to nouveau before trying to install a mainline
kernel version.

Start-Date: 2015-01-25 23:50:24
I installed the mainline kernel based on what I read at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds, this log entry marks the removal.

Start-Date: 2015-01-25 23:52:35
Switching back from nouveau to nvidia.

Start-Date: 2015-01-26 20:04:35
Updates initiated by Software Updater.

Start-Date: 2015-01-26 21:18:42
Switching from nvidia to nouveau. (After which I installed another mainline
kernel version via dpkg.)

[Bug 1414494] [NEW] reboot after shutdown Gigabyte GA-P41T-D3 motherboard, Intel G41 Express chipset

2015-01-25 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

This bug is pretty similar to the one described in #1409279: shutdown
from GUI results in shutdown, some seconds of silence, then reboot.
Hardware shutdown (holding power button for 4 secs) works OK.

Last kernel update happened on 2015.01.10, but I just started noticing
this bug today (2015.01.25), so it may not be a kernel issue.

As I see, in similar cases the general practice should be to try the
latest upstream kernel, so I guess I will try that as a next step.

Any questions or advice on how to diagnose this properly is welcome.

This pretty much looks like a duplicate of Bug #841211, although the
title differs because of the different localization of the error message
(German vs. French).

[Bug 1313433] [NEW] JVM terminates with exit code 13 on eclipse start

2014-04-27 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

Fresh xubuntu 14.04 install + fresh eclipse install. Running eclipse
from terminal produces the following output:

OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM warning: You have loaded library
/home/corphicks/opt/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.gtk.linux.x86_1.1.200.v20140116-2212/eclipse_1508.so
which might have disabled stack guard. The VM will try to fix the stack guard
now.
It's highly recommended that you fix the library with 'execstack -c libfile',
or link it with '-z noexecstack'.

Also, this might be two separate bugs:

1. The JVM warning about the disabled stack guard.

2. The JVM terminated. Exit code=13 error, which seems to be the more
important piece.

Well, if no one else confirmed this bug then most likely it's a one in a

[Bug 1196147] [NEW] Community wiki page RadeonDriver has some typos

2013-06-29 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

This section of the community wiki:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver#Power_Management

Lists two shell commands.

sudo bash -c echo \profile\ sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method
sudo bash -c echo \low\ sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile

Literally pasting these into a terminal won't work, because the
specified (relative) paths are mistyped. The corrected version gives
absolute paths and shall work (worked for me):

sudo bash -c echo \profile\ /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method
sudo bash -c echo \low\ /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile

Non-professionals will spot this typo a lot harder than I did.

(I also would have corrected the wiki content myself, but I seem to be
unable to log in to the community wiki and then edit this specific page.
:-s )

[Bug 1107653] Re: Major regression on Precise....(Fail to install and broke ALL the network)

2013-02-17 Thread Csipak Attila
I checked if compat-wireless is installed, and I think it's not. (A
quock search for compat-wireless in synaptic produced a bunch of
linux-backports-modules-cw-* packages, none of which is installed.)

I started experimenting again with bcmwl (see comment #3). I tried to
install it again (6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu0.0.1), but Ubuntu froze while
configuring the install. Also shortly after rebooting aptdaemon tried to
finish the unsuccessful installation, and Ubuntu froze again, so now I
will have to uninstall the package before aptdaemon can mess up my
session again. I struggled a bit to uninstall the package, the thing
that finally worked was to boot into an earlier kernel version and try
uninstalling from console via apt-get.

...

After reading through
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx and a bit of
experimenting, I finnally managed to install the linux-firmware-nonfree
package, and now the wifi funcionality is back. (The chipset is BCM4311,
PCI id is 14e4:4311.)

[Bug 1109790] [NEW] after some package updates ethernet stopped working + a weird wifi-related error appears on bootup

2013-01-29 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

This may be two errors, but until I know more, I will report it in a
single report, because they appeared at the same time so they may be
connected.

After today's package updates (+ a reboot) the ethernet connection
stopped working on my notebook. Network Manager doesn't show any
ethernet connections anymore. I also ruled out general hardware
malfunction by booting into WinXP, which can still make use of both eth0
and wifi.

I suspect the following package upgrades may be involved:

- isc-dhcp-client and isc-dhcp-common upgraded from
4.1.ESV-R4-0ubuntu5.5 to 4.1.ESV-R4-0ubuntu5.6

- upstart upgraded from 1.5-0ubuntu7 to 1.5-0ubuntu7.2

- ubuntu-minimal upgraded from 1.267 to 1.267.1

- bcmwl-kernel-source upgraded from 5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu6.1 to
6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu0.0.1

(After I post this, I will try downgrading the above and see if the bug
ceases to happen.)

Also I noticed that an error appears while booting, and managed to find
it in the syslog, see attached syslog_part file.

The error seems to be about wifi configuration but that is as much I can
understand about syslog entries...

Also it may be worth noting that the built-in wifi of the notebook has
not worked with Ubuntu releases for ~2 years, neither does it now.

(Sorry for the bug quality, I'm in a bit of rush right now, will add
more details in a matter of days.)

I guess the bug is a duplicate of #1107653 on basis of similar symptoms.
Also it seems that the offender is the bcmwl-kernel-source package
upgrade.

[Bug 1107653] Re: Major regression on Precise....(Fail to install and broke ALL the network)

2013-01-29 Thread Csipak Attila
I encountered the same bug on Ubuntu 12.04, see details in duplicate Bug
#1109790.

I tried downgrading bcmwl-kernel-source to the previous version via
synaptic, but the process didn't finish (updateing initramfs was the
last output line I guess). After about ~20 minutes, I restarted the
machine, now Synaptic starts with a warning message (sorry, I didn't
record it, it was about some broken cache I guess), then exited.

On the second reboot, I could start Synaptic without any problems and
succeeded in completely removing bcmwl-kernel-source package. Now eth0
works again and since the Broadcom wifi controller didn't really work in
the last 2 years I don't miss the driver too much.

In a couple of days I'm going to experiment with this a bit more, please
feel free to suggest ideas on how to debug further.

[Bug 1106864] Re: Multicolumn report does not show more than one graph

2013-01-27 Thread Csipak Attila
According to the upstream bug report, this bug appeared as a regression
in gnucash 2.4.?

Ubuntu moved from 2.2.9 to 2.4.7 in the Oneiric release, thus I marked
this bug as a release regression in Oneiric.

Also changed to confirmed since the upstream bug is clearly the same as
mine (and also has a dozen duplicates and me toos in the Gnome Bug
Tracker on various platforms - this bug is clearly platform-
independent).

[Bug 1106305] [NEW] filtering out zero-balanced accounts doesn't work when a new transaction changes an accounts balance to/from zero

2013-01-26 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a new file and two new accounts within it.

2. Open one account, then go back to the accounts tab.

3. Uncheck: View / Filter By... / Other / Show zero total accounts then
click OK. As a result, both accounts disappear.

4. Now enter a transaction to the account you opened in step 2. with the
other split pointing to the other account. After you finish the
transaction, both accounts will have non-zero balances, but they will be
still hidden on the accounts tab.

5. Workaround: open the Filter By... dialog again, check and uncheck the
Show zero total accounts checkbox and see the account appear and
disappear in the background.

6. The error also works the other way around: if you now delete the
transaction entered in step 4. (thereby restoring the account balances
to 0) the account won't disappear from the accounts tab afterwards.

I guess gnucash is missing some event handling which notifies the
accounts tab whenever an account changes its balance to/from zero.

[Bug 1041819] Re: K3B doesn't recognize normalize-audio is installed

2012-12-31 Thread Csipak Attila
I currently use:

Ubuntu 12.04 (fully updated)
k3b 2.0.2-3ubuntu4
normalize-audio 0.7.7-8build1

... and the problem is present.

I guess the versioning of k3b differs in Ubuntu and Debian, so Ubuntu
k3b 2.0.2-3ubuntu4 is not the same as Debian k3b 2.0.2-4.

If someone could backport the k3b fix mentioned by Joachim into the
Ubuntu 12.04 repository, well, that would be nice.

[Bug 1090977] [NEW] monodevelop should depend on xterm

2012-12-16 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Lubuntu 12.04 clean install (it may work on an older install too, but if it
doesn't, try a clean installation).
2. Install MonoDevelop from the Lubuntu Software Center.
3. Start MonoDevelop.
4. Start a new solution and a new C# console project within it.
5. MonoDevelop autogenerates a Hello World! program for you.
6. Try to run or debug (Ctrl+F5 or F5) the unmodified source code and
experience the error.

It seems that monodevelop uses xterm to run console projects, but xterm
is not a dependency for monodevelop. Since xterm is not part of a
default Lubuntu installation, MonoDevelop will throw an error at step 6.

The workaround is to install xterm manually via apt-get, synaptic, or
Software Center.

This problem has been around on other distros platforms, see this
forum thread for an example: http://mono.1490590.n4.nabble.com/File-
name-has-not-been-set-td1510697.html

[Bug 267464] Re: doesn't recognize mp4 files automaticaly (only when i press select video)

2012-09-30 Thread Csipak Attila
To Allan Rank: this is kinda confusing since the subdownloader package
(2.0.16-2) depends on the python-kaa-metadata package in ubuntu. I'd
guess you had some kind of installation problem earlier, which does not
directly relate to the original bug.

[Bug 1041819] Re: K3B doesn't recognize normalize-audio is installed

2012-09-05 Thread Csipak Attila
I copypasted the following comment from
http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?37194

If it works with the binary installed in /usr/bin/normalize, it's not a
problem with normalize. The binary in this package has always been
normalize, but is renamed normalize-audio in debian and derivatives.
I'd guess that debian's k3b would need to be patched to account for the
different name of normalize there. Let me know if I'm misunderstanding
something here, but for now I'm going to close this since it sounds like
the problem is elsewhere.

[Bug 1041819] [NEW] K3B doesn't recognize normalize-audio is installed

2012-08-26 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

This bug was already filed in the KDE Bugtracking System on K3B project,
see here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=251479

See bug description + comment 1-2 there.

Comment 2 on the above bug report mentions a workaround. As far as I
understood the main problem is that KDE tries to find normalize audio by
checking /usr/bin/normalize instead /usr/bin/normalize-auido . Now the
workaround is about tricking K3B by renaming normalize-audio to
normalize and then creating a script named normalize-auido in its place.

Now my guess is that if someone made the workaround steps desctibed in
comment 2 a step of the install procedure for normalize-audio, that
would solve the problem of the K3B vs. normalize-audio integration.

I guess waiting for the upstream K3B project to fix this issue is
hopeless (the linked bug was posted ~2 years ago, nobody even cared to
reproduce and confirm it). The upstream normalize-audio project doesn't
seem to be active since 2005, neither.

- (I would link it as an upstream bug, but it appears to me that
- bugs.kde.org is not linked to Launchpad. If there's still a way to do
- this the proper way, please let me know.)

Update: I also found the normalize-audio procejts own bugracker, and
filed a bug there, too: https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/index.php?37194

Alas, it looks like the upstream project is not registered on Launchpad,

[Bug 1033598] [NEW] the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being

2012-08-06 Thread Csipak Attila

This really may be two bug, but the latter one is a lot more irritating:

1. For some reason Software Center keeps asking me to create a Software

2. Well whatever, then I shall register again. Unless there's a CAPTCHA

[Bug 972124] Re: firefox crashes while opening certain webpages on mozilla.com

2012-08-04 Thread Csipak Attila
Today I re-tested this bug in the same environment on which it was
originally discovered, except that now I used Firefox version 13.0.1
instead of 11.0 (also there may have been a couple of other changes in
packages, since I occasionally updated packages on the machine). I
couldn't reproduce the error with any of the URLs mentioned above.

This bug may have been fixed, commited and released since I detected it
in 2012-04-03.

[Bug 972124] Re: firefox crashes while opening certain webpages on mozilla.com

2012-08-04 Thread Csipak Attila
Starting from the fully upgraded package set, I downgraded the firefox
package to 11.0, but I was still not able to reproduce the original bug.
The cause of the bug must be something more subtle, and I don't exactly
see how I could determine what fixed it.

Also there's a chance that the pages mentioned in the bug description
changed themselves, removing an important prerequisite of the bug.

[Bug 1027645] [NEW] ferret dash icon problems

2012-07-22 Thread Csipak Attila
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install ferret. (Via Software center, Synaptiy or apt-get.)

2. Problem 1: an icon (a question mark within a gray rectangle) for the
new application appears on dash - I guess this is some kind of fallback
icon, meaning ferret doesn't have any suitable icon on its own.

3. Problem 2: start ferret from the dash icon. Instead of what should
normally happen (dash icon starts blinking, then a small triangle
appears left from it), an invisible icon (icon-sized empty space)
appears bleow ferret's dash icon, which later behaves as the icon of the
running apllication.

Package: ferret 0.6-3ubuntu1
