[Bug 253119] Re: PPA packages do not show a changelog in update-manager

2017-04-14 Thread Dmitry Kann
PPA changelogs are indeed shown now for a fresh install of 16.10
Yakkety. However with an upgraded system I still see: "This update does
not come from a source that supports changelogs."

Is there some setting that I should change to make this work?

[Bug 1350747] [NEW] Black screen after lock or switch user

2014-07-31 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

This started about a week ago, I started getting very frequent problems
with lockscreen and switching users. After using either of them never
brings the system back. Most of the time I just get a black screen
(sometimes with mouse cursor).

The system seems to respond to keyboard but the display is broken. I
have no clue whether it's xorg, lightdm or anything else.

This never happened until a few days ago.

[Bug 1224572] [NEW] Music dir selection does not work

2013-09-12 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

In the Preferences dialog, if I select any dir in the Music dir drop-

$HOME/.config/sonata/sonatarc is not updated. Upon next opening the

[Bug 1072316] Re: GoldenDict's main window does not get focus after activating by the indicator

2013-07-12 Thread Dmitry Kann
Thank you Tvangeste. I successfully built GoldenDict from the GitHub
repo (1.5.0-RC-74-ge79efbd), the bug seems to be fixed now. I only
replaced the goldendict binary which was built (no "make install"), and
everything was working smoothly.

By the way, the UI is much better and cleaner now, and a lot of other
small things improved (eg. main window activation by a global hotkey
works now).

[Bug 1085608] [NEW] indicator-datetime-service crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()

2012-12-02 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

Upon startup I almost always get the message that "indicator-datetime-
service crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()", and then
it repeats multiple times.

What's the most annoying, no matter if I click Ignore or Report, and if
I check "Ignore future problems..." - nothing happens, nothing is
reported, and it's never ignored next time. So clearly apport (or
something else) is misbehaving too.

[Bug 1082420] [NEW] Cannot move files to staging

2012-11-23 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

Sometimes (quite often actually) files that I move to staging (Commit
tab) simply vanish. They disappear from the left list (Unstaged) and
don't appear in the Staged list.

I don't know when and why it happens. What I noticed though is that for
such files no diff is shown in the Changes window above.

[Bug 624566] Re: Enhancement: Middle click to close tab (like Firefox)

2012-11-23 Thread Dmitry Kann
I find the reasoning not valid. This would definitely be a useful
feature. Closing tabs with a middle click is a de facto standard in
almost all browsers: Firefox, Google Chrome, even Internet Explorer (!)

"Having tabs disappear if a user accidentally middle clicks anwhere
inside them is confusing." is not convincing at all. How about
accidental left clicks on the close button (which is WAY more likely
since people switch tabs with left mouse button, and they NEVER use mid
clicks on tabs except for closing). After all, be careful with clicks in
general :)

Moreover, a tab with a modified file would never close without
confirmation.

I'm determined this feature is needed.

[Bug 1072319] [NEW] Impossible to navigate word list with keyboard

2012-10-28 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

It's not possible to use keyboard to browse via different entries in the
word list: the list loses focus on any selection change.

When focus is in the search box, fisrt press of the Down key selects the
word list and then the selection immediatly disappears. After that the
focus is stolen from the list on any selection change, doesn't matter if
it's a mouse click or a key press.

This way it's very difficult to use keyboard to work with the app. And

[Bug 1072316] [NEW] GoldenDict's main window does not get focus after activating by the indicator

2012-10-28 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

If I use the indicator icon's menu to "Show Main Window", the window is

[Bug 1072314] [NEW] File list selection is lost after any command

2012-10-28 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

Whenever I run any command on the file list, for example Diff To Head
(Ctrl+H), or commit, or whatever, including even displaying a context
menu on right-click (!), the file list seems to be refreshed and the
current selection is lost.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Right click a file
2. Close the context menu by pressing Esc
3. Nothing is selected anymore -- Ag!

That's highly inconvenient, especially if you're used to use keyboard a
lot. The file list is not even selectable with keyboard after the
selection is gone!

[Bug 1070786] [NEW] Gedit inhibits Compiz grid triggering

2012-10-24 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

It's a very strange behaviour and somewhat erratic too.

When I start Gedit, it seems to block the Compiz grid function (window
alignment when you drag them to an edge of the screen, presented with
orange overlay) for all other windows -- mostly but not always. Gedit
window itself I never managed to make trigger the grid.

As soon as I close Gedit, grid triggering is back again. Weird.

[Bug 972063] Re: Bluetooth Headset pairs but does not show up in Sound Settings profile

2012-09-28 Thread Dmitry Kann
The solution described here helped all of a sudden:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/175933/why-did-my-bluetooth-headset-
disappear-from-sound-settings-and-how-can-i-get-it

All you need is to set card profile. First look up your device ID:

~$ pactl list cards short
0 alsa_card.pci-_01_00.1 module-alsa-card.c
1 alsa_card.usb-Generic_Turtle_Beach_USB_Headset_01-00-Headset
module-alsa-card.c
2 alsa_card.pci-_00_14.2 module-alsa-card.c
8 bluez_card.C8_84_47_04_21_6Fmodule-bluetooth-device.c

Then you use the above ID to bind the profile to the card:
~$ pactl set-card-profile bluez_card.C8_84_47_04_21_6F a2dp

The device shows up in the list again.

parent Nautilus window is closed, the File Operation window cannot be

[Bug 990957] Re: Global keyboard shortcuts should not depend on current layout

2012-04-29 Thread Dmitry Kann
I seem to identify the cause of the issue. As of Precise global
shortcuts began to depend on current layout, which is wrong.

Say, I assign the global shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D to run an
application. But if I have Russian layout selected in the current
application, the system translates it into Ctrl+Alt+Shift+"Cyrillic ve"
and ignores it.

Global shortcuts depending on current keyboard layout in the application
is a sort of nonsense, I suppose.

[Bug 894553] Re: "Writing metadata to files..." never finishes

2012-04-08 Thread Dmitry Kann
Thanks Adam, I also attach the most recent log, maybe it might help. By
the way, looks like "*_modified" files cause this behaviour. In the log
I see a lot of "timer restarted" events, like this:

L 30918 2012-04-08 15:53:22 [DBG] Photo.vala:3144: pipeline being run
against [11713] /home/dk/Pictures/Photos/2011/08/02/dsc05782.jpg
(/home/dk/Pictures/Photos/2011/08/02/dsc05782_modified.jpg), timer
restarted.

Can it be caused by file system notification on file change?

[Bug 640785] Re: nautilus file preview does not respect file size limit

2011-12-09 Thread Dmitry Kann
I reopen the bug. It is actually the case Nautilus GENERATES thumbnails
disregarding of the setting. It's especially annoying when it happens
while eg. downloading the file: it re-reads it numerous times and wastes
system resources.

Please see the attached screenshot: everything is very clear.

The setting's value has been there for ages. Still the previews are
generated and regenerated on file change.

[Bug 902215] [NEW] Application menu doesn't allow changing application shortcuts

2011-12-09 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

GNOME 2 had an option to allow changing keyboard shortcuts by simply
highlighting the corresponding menu item in the main menu and pressing
the desired key combination.

With Unity's global application menu this doesn't work. That impacts
very many applications that don't have a specific dialog to edit
shortcuts — in fact, almost all of them: Pidign, Shotwell, Transmission,
you name it.

I believe this should be addressed promptly.

Public bug reported:

After last update Shotwell always starts to write metadata to files upon

either. Console doesn't show anything.

@Ravi: I set brightness to the minimum automatically by adding the

[Bug 882736] [NEW] Unity draws orange resize bar when resizing a window

2011-10-27 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

If I resize a window by dragging a window corner or side, and the mouse
cursor hits a "hot zone" in the corner or at the edge of the screen, an
orange bar showing the future position of the window is drawn, and if I
release mouse button, the window indeed jumps to that position.

This "grid" behaviour should not be activated when you resize the
window, only when you drag it.

[Bug 880097] [NEW] Application menu is not shown in Unity

2011-10-22 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

If GoldenDict is configured to start minimized in system tray, if I
click its indicator and choose Show Main Window, in most cases (but not
always) the main window is shown but doesn't get focus.

If this is the case, even after focusing the main window no application
menu is shown in the panel at the top of the screen, only "GoldenDict".
Also settings are not accessible (F4), and obviously nothing from the
menu can be accessed either.

[Bug 879960] [NEW] Impossible to get contact list visible in Unity after reboot

2011-10-22 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

If Pidgin is listed in the Startup Applications, and I close the main (Contact
List) window (but it is still running of course), then, after reboot:
 - Contact List window is hidden
 - There's a button of running Pidgin in the launcher,
 - But there's no way to make the main window visible: clicking on the Launcher
button or in the Message Indicator -> Pidgin Internet Messenger doesn't do
anything.

The only way to bring it back is to right click on the Launcher button,
choose Quit, restart it again (it's still invisible), and then use
Message Indicator -> Pidgin Internet Messenger.

Even after restarting the app the Launcher button doesn't do anything if
the main window was hidden before quitting, which is obviously wrong:
there either should be no button, or it should make the window visible.

[Bug 871987] [NEW] Unity draws orange maximize bar for non-resizeable windows

2011-10-10 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

If I drag a non-resizeable window (a dialog for example) to the top,
left or right edge of the screen, it draws a nice orange bar showing how
the window would be maximized if you released the mouse button.

But since the window is not resizeable, it only jumps to another
position and keeps its current size.

@Michael, I have an Apple keyboard. If I open current keyboard layout

[Bug 859042] Re: Inplace file renaming lacks scrolling

2011-09-25 Thread Dmitry Kann
** Description changed:

If I rename a file in-place (with the F2 key), and the name of the file
is long enough to not fit in the window, it isn't scrolled when the
cursor is beyond the window edge. So you basically don't see it and you
  can't see what you're editing.
+
+ In the single-panel mode, it seems to happen in "Compact" view only, if you
scroll the list horizontally so that the file name gets cropped by the window
edge.
+ In the dual-panel mode (Extra Pane is on), it happens in both panes, in
"List" and "Compact" views.

[Bug 741423] Re: cannot click on indicators to the left of date/time

2011-07-06 Thread Dmitry Kann
Will anyone do something about that? That's really annoying: I have to
restart Unity every time upon login, otherwise most of my indicators are
unreachable.

I can't imagine how people use Unity with such a bug, which is 100%
reproducible every time.

Maybe it has something to do with screen resolution: I use iMac 27" with
native 2560x1440 resolution.

[Bug 643298] Re: newly installed apps dont appear in applications unless unity is restarted

This bug isn't fixed, or there's a regression.

I've just installed VirtualBox from Oracle's Debian repository, but if I
type 'virtual' in the search field it isn't listed. However, if I browse

Please reopen.

If I press Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C or Ctrl+V in the search edit field in

characters are inserted in the field.

Please refer to the attached screenshot for an example of those weird
characters.

[Bug 741423] Re: cannot click on indicators to the left of date/time

2011-05-24 Thread Dmitry Kann
I confirm this one. Most of the indicator menu cannot be opened by
clicking. They are only accessible if you open some other indicator menu
and then move the mouse to the desired indicator.

Although not all the indicators to the left of the clock are not
clickable, but most of them.

Also, goldendict's tray icon never shows up (filter is already set to
'all').

Both problems are gone is I restart Unity.

[Bug 779374] [NEW] Apply disabled when trying to completely remove items with residual config

2011-05-08 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

If there are items with the status "Not installed (residual config)" and
you mark them for complete removal, the Apply button (as well as the
Apply Marked Changes menu item) remains disabled.

The only way to remove such items is combining this change with others,
like installing a new or removing an installed package.

I also attach a screenshot of how it looks like.
