I've upgraded to a new laptop and I don't have a way of testing it
anymore, sorry.

[Bug 782926] Re: [Unity] Application doesn't show up in Launcher when open

2011-10-16 Thread Eros Zanchetta
It happens to me too on a freshly installed Oneiric (AMD64).

The problem manifests itself quite consistently when I open terminal,
but yesterday it happened a couple of times with Chrome too. I'm sure
sometimes it doesn't do it because I was able to select Keep in
launcher for the terminal. When it was on the launcher, I could run the
terminal from there, but the small triangle wouldn't show up and
clicking on the icon wouldn't give focus to the application.

See attached screenshot, showing that when the terminal is open it's not
displayed in the launcher.

2011-10-16 Thread Eros Zanchetta
And terminal doesn't show up in the ALT-TAB selector either (see
attached screenshot).

It looks like the application doesn't exist for certain aspects of the
GUI: when it's like that, I can't even move the window by dragging the
title bar, I have to give focus to the main window by clicking on the
body (i.e. not on the titlebar which is unresponsive), and then I can
drag the titlebar.

This affects me too (Karmic x86_64):

I found this bug while trying to figure out why disk performance is so
bad on my box (I get an average SATA disk to SATA disk speed of 6
mb/sec). I tried swapping schedulers but I noticed very little change.

[Bug 438136] Re: palimpsest bad sectors false positive

2009-11-02 Thread Eros Zanchetta
@p4man: thanks for the clarification. I'd love to help, but I'm not sure
how. As I said above I ran SeaTools for Windows' Long Generic Test and
it didn't report any problems (you can find the log file in my previous
post) while palimpsest reports 466 bad sectors (see attached
screenshot). I don't know if this is a credible number of relocated
sectors.

I'm willing to run more tests, just tell me what to do.

I could try Spirite, but I'd rather not because it'll probably take
forever to run the test on a 1.5 TB disk.

[Bug 82504] Re: gnome-panel autohides inconsistently

Still present in Karmic final too. Is it still a bug when you're so used

Seriously, would this qualify as a papercut?

2009-10-30 Thread Eros Zanchetta
Same here on my fresh Karmic installation (x86_64), using a Seagate
Barracuda ST31500341AS. I also tried the 32 bit version of Karmic and
got the the same results.

I ran SeaTools for Windows' Long Generic test' to confirm that the drive
was OK and it passed the test (see attached log file) so I guess it is
indeed a false positive.

2009-05-16 Thread Eros Zanchetta
@Leonardo: I think yours is a different problem. As I said above, I
tried connecting a different monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 226BW) with the
same results, therefore the problem must lie somewhere else (probably
the nvidia driver).

[Bug 353067] Re: Frequency not detected for external monitor using nvidia GeForce Go 7300

2009-04-27 Thread Eros Zanchetta
I re-installed the system, so now I have a fresh installation of Ubuntu
9.04.

There's been a small improvement but it doesn't work properly yet, now
the following (mostly useless) resolutions are detected:

- 320x240
- 400x300
- 512x384
- 576x432
- 640x480
- 680x384
- 800x600
- 1024x768
- 1152x864
- 1360x768

I re-attach the files you requested earlier from the fresh installation.

[Bug 353067] Re: Frequency not detected for external monitor using nvidia GeForce Go 7300

2009-04-05 Thread Eros Zanchetta
I tried connecting the laptop to a different monitor (Samsung SyncMaster
226BW), nothing changed, so I guess it doesn't depend on the VGA/monitor
combination (not that I really believed that the monitor had anything to
do with it, not I'm sure it doesn't).

I removed brand and model of the monitor from the bug summary.

[Bug 353067] [NEW] Frequency not detected for external monitor ASUS VW202SR on nvidia GeForce Go 7300

2009-04-01 Thread Eros Zanchetta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

I recently upgraded to a 20'' ASUS VW202SR LCD but I haven't been able
to configure the optimal resolution (1680x1050) for use with my laptop
(a Toshiba Satellite A100 317). I had successfully configured my old
monitor (a 19'' Dell LCD) for its optimal resolution (1280x1024).

There appears to be nothing wrong with the hardware since everything
works fine in Windows (I had to manually add the resolution there too
though).

The problem seems to be that nvidia-settings is unable to detect all the
resolutions the monitor is capable of displaying, the maximum I can get
is 1280x1024. I also tried manually adding the resolution to xorg.conf
but when I restart X I get no video signal (neither on the external
monitor nor on the laptop display).

I had this problem with Intrepid and also with the new jaunty beta (I
upgraded just to see if something had changed).

Here's my configuration:

- Toshiba Satellite A100 317
- monitor: ASUS VW202SR
- VGA: GeForce Go 7300

lspci reports this for the video card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS
110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1)

Let me know if you need more information.

Best,
Eros
