Trying to reconfigure Xorg not to use the intel driver, I ran:
Xorg -configure :1
This just gave me a black screen with a mouse pointer... Since using the keys
to switch workspaces lead to changes in the mouse pointer, I understood that my
apps where still there, but not displayed...

I have the same problem, but on an old dual-core desktop machine,
firefox takes up to 105% CPU (or more) and often freezes the whole
machine.
A typical example is when sufing the:

web site and open a few tabs with some of its pages. There's always a moment
where you open a
FYI I've just tried to disable "Hardware Acceleration". It's even
worse... There are display errors of the same type on every box shown on
the screen (text input, etc.).
