[Bug 1876802] Re: Gnome (on Xorg) crashes when disconnecting external monitor

2020-09-21 Thread Gino Biondini
I am dealing with exactly the same issue: I am running Gnome on a fresh
install of Ubuntu 20.04 on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th gen. I have
an external monitor (also a Lenovo), and when I connect it (through
USB-C), everything works fine. However, when I disconnect it, the
system freezes completely after a couple seconds, and I need to do a
hard reboot each time.

[Bug 1855526] [NEW] Unable to launch libreoffice-math

2019-12-07 Thread Gino Duchi via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Every time I start libreoffice-math the system signals an error, asks me if I
want to recover the document I was working on (none) and at the end runs
libreoffice-writer.
After a while a message pops up that says that Ubuntu 18.04 has found an
internal error.
I have tried to uninstall libreoffice-math via "software" and intalling it
again without any results.
The system software is up to date.

[Bug 1582318] [NEW] amavis virus check fails when nvidia CUDA is on the same system

2016-05-16 Thread Gino
Public bug reported:

Amavis incorrectly assumes that /usr/bin/nvcc is the "Norman virus
control" executable, and attempts to use it to virus check incoming
emails.

In systems with the NVIDIA CUDA compiler installed, the nvcc executable
is actually the CUDA compiler, and so exits with a non-zero (exit) state
every time amavis attempts to execute it on email traffic.

This behavior results in all email traffic being marked (and
quarantined) by amavis as containing a virus whenever NVIDIA CUDA is
installed on the same system as amavisd-new.

The increasing use of gpu acceleration for speeding up and
multithreading particular server processing tasks means that in the
future more servers may experience this problem as they have NVIDIA CUDA
installed on them.

I believe that amavis should verify that nvcc is the Norman virus
control executable prior to attempting to use it as a virus check.

A workaround for this bug on current ubuntu systems is to modify the default
/etc/amavis/conf.d/15-av_scanners file and comment out the following three
lines:
['Norman Virus Control v5 / Linux', 'nvcc',
'-c -l:0 -s -u -temp:$TEMPBASE {}', [0,10,11], [1,2,14],
qr/(?i).* virus in .* -> \'(.+)\'/m ],

[Bug 1248260] Re: ibus-daemon hogging resources

2014-10-25 Thread Gino
Ok. This is pretty bizarre. The system unresponsiveness issue happened
again.

This time, I ssh'ed in and noticed that Google Chrome was using 105% of
CPU and the load was shooting up.

Did a 'killall chrome' and the load went down to normal.

Looks like Chrome has some issues running on Ubuntu Linux.

[Bug 1248260] Re: ibus-daemon hogging resources

2014-10-24 Thread Gino
i could move the mouse around but the mouse clicks were not registering.
using ssh, logged in (took a little while) and noticed that the load was
12 or higher. running 'top', i saw a couple ibus related processes that
were taking up gigabytes of ram. indeed, even though i only had chrome
and a couple terminals open, the system had started using significant
swap space in addition to the 6 gigabytes of ram available to it.

i killed a couple of those massively bloated ibus processes and the system soon
returned to normal. and mouse clicks started working again.

can you guys do a code review of the ibus related code, to see if you can where
the runaway resource utilization might be occurring. and possibly do some
checks. at least log info that would help to identify/pinpoint what is going
on.

at the very least, have it monitor itself, in terms of resource
utilization and have it automatically restart/exit if the utilization
goes above a reasonable threshold. 2+ gigabytes used by one system
process is NOT reasonable..

[Bug 760769] Re: Desktop stops responding to all keyboard and mouse clicks

2014-10-24 Thread Gino
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 762918 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762918

Lately, I've been having the same issue. My desktop mouse cursor was
responsive, but the clicks were registering or being detected.

I was able to ssh into this machine when it happened. Doing a top, I
noticed that the load was > 12 ! (Typical load is usually < 2).

Also, there were some ibus related processes hogging up gigabytes of
memory. Bizarre and a little unnerving. I killed a couple of these ibus
related memory hogs, my system came back to normal.

So, I think the mouse clicks not being detected was a side effect of the
system being under such a heavy load that it couldn't respond in a
timely fashion to mouse clicks.

Also, as a side note, I changed my Google Chrome configuration to
disallow running in the background. It also seemed to be using up a
solid gigabyte+ of memory.

I'm going to try to remove ibus and see if the crazy load issue (I
wasn't really actively doing anything to stress the system at the time)
goes away..

2014-10-20 Thread Gino
This is still broken in 14.10 :-(
Additionally, kernel 3.15 deprecated interruptible_sleep_on_timeout, so now in
14.10, to get dahdi to work, in addition to the above patch for xbus,
pciradio.c also needs to be patched as per here:

[Bug 1312421] Re: Cannot rebuild dahdi-dkms (1:2.5.0.1+dfsg-1ubuntu3) : unknown field ‘drv_attrs’ specified in initializer .drv_attrs = xpp_attrs

2014-05-29 Thread Gino
Hi Guys,
I can confirm that applying Russ's first patch (
https://github.com/asterisk/dahdi-linux/commit/2e7acd2 ) to the version of
dahdi in ubuntu 14.04 allows xbus-sysfs.c to compile, and so dkms now builds
the dahdi module correctly.

His second patch is probably necessary for versions of dahdi later than
what is in 14.04, but isn't needed for current ubuntu.

So if using ubuntu 14.04, apply the first patch to
/usr/src/dahdi-2.5.0.1+dfsg-1ubuntu3/drivers dahdi

then run sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/dahdi-dkms.postinst configure

and you should be fine.

[Bug 1323478] Re: ibus input Chinese word in webapp, words were duplicated

2014-05-27 Thread Gino Zhao
@Gunnar: You are right, I tested ibus-sunpinyin (Chinese sunpinyin),
using it input some Chinese words in webapp, It dose work well, doesn't
have this problem.

Input Chinese word in webapp via ibus, in summary:
ibus-sunpinyin sunpinyin engine for ibus, version: 2.0.3-5build1, works
correctly
ibus-pinyin and ibus-bopomofo in pinyin engine for ibus, version:
1.5.0-1ubuntu1 , words are duplicated

My system: Ubuntu 14.04 64bit

So, does it mean this issue belongs to im-config?

[Bug 1323478] Re: ibus input Chinese word in webapp, words were duplicated

2014-05-27 Thread Gino Zhao
I'm not sure this is an issue with im-config. I just updated im-config
package then make me can input Chinese words in webapp. so I guess that
maybe related.

In LiberOffice software, gedit, web browser(chrome and firefox) and other
softwares I used, It never happened, I can input Chinese words correctly.
I only met this problem in webapp (Amazon webapp and Telegram Unity Webapp).

Sorry, I don't know how to judge this issue belongs to im-config or
webbrowser-app package.
I hope I can provide the necessary information to help fix it.

[Bug 1323478] [NEW] ibus input Chinese word in webapp, words were duplicated

2014-05-26 Thread Gino Zhao
Public bug reported:

I just update im-config to ver. 0.24-1ubuntu4.1, so I can input Chinese
word in webapp now, like Amazon webapp client (previous version not
support )

But, when I input Chinese word via ibus pinyin method, words were duplicated. I
always got double what I typed.
For example, input '好', show '好好', input '你好', show '你好你好'.

I think this is new issue for this package.

[Bug 1313058] [NEW] ibus doesn't work in web browser / webapps

2014-04-26 Thread Gino Zhao
Public bug reported:

I found I can't input anything using ibus input method in ubuntu web
browser.

At first:
I open unity-webapps like unity-webapps-amazon and unity-webapps-telegram. In
unity-webapps I can't input Chinese word by ibus
later:
I found unity-webapps use ubuntu web browser, I open ubuntu web browser
directly, I still can't input anything by ibus in input box or form.

So I think this issue is for this app.
Please fix this bug.

P.S. I can input Chinese word by ibus in Chrome and Firefox web browser.

[Bug 658302] Re: Visible wireless networks are not sorted by signal strength

2013-07-25 Thread Gino Miglio
Mathieu,

I disagree. As I write this, I am sitting in a shared office building
with about 20 networks in sight. My company's network is (obviously) the
strongest signal, because I am in my office. There is no reason I should
have to sift through an alphabetical list of distant networks to find
the one I'm trying to connect to. It should be in the top 5.

I know the SSID and only need to do that once, of course, but that isn't
always the case. If I'm visiting a friend in an apartment building, it's
a similar situation. The same goes for most public access points.
Honestly, I can't think of very many situations where sorting
alphabetically would be more useful than sorting by signal strength. I
think it should be the default, but at the very least there should be
an option.

I think it's absurd that this was closed as a Won't Fix. I don't imagine
it's difficult to implement, either, though that is not the point. This
is a feature which should exist and doesn't. It makes network-manager
seem amateur.

[Bug 947723] Re: ASIX USB-Ethernet driver noticably slow, dropping packets and reporting RX errors

Yes, this bug still occurs for me.

Using the manufacturer's source from

http://www.asix.com.tw/FrootAttach/driver/AX88772B_772A_760_772_178_LINUX_Driver_v4.4.0_Source.zip

to build a kernel module solves the problem though.

What is ubuntu patching the working manufacturer's driver with that
stops it from working?

Hi Ming,
no this kernel does not resolve the issue.
It starts off with ok speed, but over time degrades in exactly the same way.
Using the vendor driver as recommended in the op definitely rectifies the issue.

Is there any debug info you want me to grab while running your module?

Hi,
for me it is the usb to ethernet adapter that came with my asus zenbook U31E.
(USB ID is 0b95:7e2b).

You should be able to buy these individually, as you probably don't
want to buy a whole laptop to get one to test.

[Bug 1012165] [NEW] lirc_wpc8769l is not being built due to a compile error

2012-06-12 Thread Gino
Public bug reported:

A compile error is preventing the lirc_wpc8769.ko kernel module from
being built in ubuntu 12.04. This hardware is necessary to support
WEC1020 Winbond CIR Transceiver hardware.

Basically - the methods generic_find_next_le_bit and
generic_find_next_zero_le_bit have been deprecated.

All instances of generic_find_next_le_bit need to be replaced by
find_next_bit_le,

and all instances of generic_find_next_zero_le_bit need to be replaced
by find_next_zero_bit_le.

Once this is corrected the kernel module will build correctly and
hardware using this module will become usable again.

[Bug 987823] [NEW] courier-imap stops accepting connections

2012-04-24 Thread Gino
Public bug reported:

I have recently upgraded a working email server from ubuntu 11.10 to
12.04 final beta, and the following issue is occuring.

After running fine for a random period of time (anywhere from 10 mins to 40
hours), courier-imap will stop accepting connections, and email clients are no
longer able to check mail.
After the error occurs, thunderbird for example fails with an error of the
form: "Server email.addr...@mailserver.xxx.xxx has disconnected. The server
may have gone down or there may be a network problem"
Other email clients fail with similar errors.

There are no clues in either syslog, mail.log, mail.error etc.

Restarting the courier-imap and courier-imap-ssl services does not solve
the issue. However, if the server is rebooted, then the imap services
come up and work fine.

The bug is difficult to reproduce, but definitely occurs in the normal
scheme of things at least once every 40 hours.

Having said that, I have managed to exercise the bug consistently by
using a web client such as squirrelmail to access emails via imap.

The bug can also sometimes be reproduced by accessing the same mailbox
simultaneously using two email clients (eg desktop mail client +
smartphone mail client at the same time). So this may be some sort of
locking or timing bug.

There is at least one other user who has experienced this problem, we
have had a discussion on the ubuntu forums here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=fba71f803c489876a75fb08df822a930&p=11856138

I recommend a high priority for this problem, as I believe a lot of
email servers based on ubuntu will become unusable on upgrade to 12.04
if this problem is not corrected.

Please let me know if there is any other data I can collect to help
solve this problem.

[Bug 948734] [NEW] [Studio 1535, IDT 92HD73C1X5, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2012-03-06 Thread Gino Lo BIanco
Public bug reported:

I had sound until I hit the mute button on the face of the laptop.
When I unmuted the sound did not return. I went into console and
unmuted using alsamixer and unmuted from the audio panel icon. Even
after reboot i'm not getting sound. The only sound I heard was the first
beep sequence during the trouble-shooting scenario

I'm using Oneiric Ocelot

don't even have a Desktop or running operating system for that matter. I
would much appreciate some help. All I want is a working computer.

please reopen this bug

to reproduce, open about 8 tabs on random blog sites with pictures and flash

sit there for about an hour or so
check firefox's new bloated size
reset the browser reopening all the same tabs firefox should be a lot
smaller in memory and the system should suddenly be a lot more responsive.
check it out
