[Bug 1977660] [NEW] Power settings have no effect and offer nonexisting options
Public bug reported: The "power" area of the settings offer three options: powersave, balanced, and performance. As per cpufreq-info "balanced" is not a valid option. Also changing to any of the two really existing options does not change cpu frequency in a visible way. Maybe there is a connection between this and the bug i reported about the matching indicator: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-cpufreq/+bug/1977659 I *can* actually switch between the values using the studio-controls application. changing values there leads to visible changes in cpufreq- info output and /proc/cpuinfo data shown. [Bug 1973434] Re: massive performance issues since 22.04 upgrade
BTW: also, as I have an nvidia graphics card in that machine, one could think something is wrong with the graphics drivers... But I tried the nvidia drivers as recommended by the driver GUI tool as well as nouveau. It "feels" like the nvidia drivers are even slightly worse. On the Ubuntu live USB sticks, where perfromance is better, nouveau is used, on Poop OS the nividia driver - they seem all work similarly good. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1973434 Title: massive performance issues since 22.04 upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1973434/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1973434] Re: massive performance issues since 22.04 upgrade
I have an update on this and quite a bit of more information, even though not very clear what it means and how to further go on fully fixing it: After some more usage i realized that the performance is still pretty weak when using my desktop system for slightly more "real" work. I kept getting stutter in Video playback and Web browsers when using web applications with the slightest bit of JavaScript functionality, and a Virtualbox virtual machine. I first suspected gnome-shell to be a culprit and had the impressions things where sligthly better when using LXDE as a desktop environment, but still I never got real good performance. it's a real hard to get a grip on problem, as I dont know how to instantly produce the problem and measure it as with normal bugs. The easiest thing I can do is open a web browser, got to youtube, and open a few videos in new tabs and try to play them, and skip back and forth to different points, and "pretty soon" I get a stuttering in the video, a mouse pointer not moving fluently, switching tabs taking multiple seconds that usually works in an instant, a browser process with multiple 100s of % of CPU and a RRD* process. these are things that work without a problem on a very old Lenovo x1 tablet with a mobile processor, and that i would expect to work equally easy on a pretty new X1 extreme with i9 processor and 32G Ram... I did some more testing ( I cannot call it real debugging as I dont know how to use proper tooling and stuff for these kind of analysis) and checked how other Distributions and other Ubuntu versions perform from USB Live systems and found that not only PopOS, but also Ubuntu 21.10, BUT to my surprise also 22.04 from USB Live system behave much better. So I thought i must have some setting wrong, but I didn't know which, until i tried to turn off Intel Boost because I remembered in Ubuntu Studio it is recommended to be turned off for good audio performance. This helps a lot! But, this is not what is different between 22.04 live - because there, Intel boost is ON and it still behaves good. I tried this with several browsers with always the same result, so it seems to be a generic graphics system/library, or kernel problem. It actually "feels" like some scheduling issue - which was the reason I tried the boost setting. I also tried with a new test user, to make sure it's not a userspace local setting, or any browser plugin. But the same problems with a new, "clean" user. The system I experience all this with has been installed first with 20.10, so it has multiple upgrades - it *could* be there is some other setting from previous software versions thats broken - but I have no idea what setting this could be and how I can search for it. It could also be some old version of some gnome, X11 ( I also tried Xorg as well as wayland, no noticeable difference) or graphics library, and the kernel package is the wrong place for this bug, but I dont know where to start with that then...

[Bug 1976529] [NEW] cannot report bug on "ubuntu-software" because missing button in dialog
Public bug reported: When trying to report a bug on "Ubuntu-Software" (thats the name I start it from the gnome search). I want to do this by selecting the window of the application, because the application itself does not tell me it's name or package. But after selecting the window I am presented a dialog window with so much text in it, that any buttons like "ok" or "continue" are probably somewhere oiut of my visible screen. [Bug 1975430] Re: I can select the Xorg Nouveau server, but not click on "apply"
confirming my guess: this error occurs when having somehow "exotic" linux-image-* package names - even thoug dpkg-deb can build them and dpkg is installing them without compaints, they lead to an error here. A custom built mainline kernel without special naming can be installed without triggering the bug described here! likely its the regular expression in Line 86 of kerneldetection.py that I am right now unable to improve... the goal would probably be either to improve the expression to be able to deal with all legal package names, or give an error/exception that the kernel name/version could not be parsed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1975430 Title: I can select the Xorg Nouveau server, but not click on "apply" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1975430/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1975430] Re: I can select the Xorg Nouveau server, but not click on "apply"
OK, tracking down this stacktrace I found the problem: it appears that kerneldetection.py fails when I have a custom built mainline package installed. that would make this a bug in "ubuntu-drivers-common" It appears to be irrelevant that I am *running* the standard Ubuntu generic kernel - the error occurs when I just have this kernel package installed, and it goes away when I remove it! Maybe it doesnt happen with all custom packages, i have a slightly special name: linux-image-5.17.9-hs-custom-2022-05-22-a - I assumed when dpkg-deb can build it, this name is fine. yes i can test that, no problem! Re: [Bug 1973434] Re: massive performance issues since 22.04 upgrade
Hi Matthew, Yes, that looks very good! have to dig a bit deeper and do some more actual work, but at the first glance I can do the things that I described above where impossible! Thanks a lot! I tried to build 5.17.7 with the 22.04 config and make olddefconfig and then bindeb-pkg, but it took extremely much longer than with the 20.10 config, and after about 2 hours i saw it still hanging on dpkg-deb for the dbg package and even half an hour later not finish. I will try again tonite, probably doing a full "mrproper" before and letting it run over night to see if it really hangs or just takes extremely long. Actually I cant imagine why a dpkg-deb should hang, but I also saw now clues what it could be. [Bug 1973440] [NEW] cheese preview image black/white and striped (no effect selected)
Public bug reported: When starting cheese I see my picture, but it's without color and with stripes. It looks like a "bad TV Filter" or something, but I made sure no effect is selected at all. In the secont test of the bug reporting process, which appears to show the "original" camera image via gstreamer, the image is also wrong, but in another way. it's completely dark, but looking more closely, it seems to be the cam image, but extremely darkened so only a few of the most white parts of the actual image visible. Taking an actual shot with cheese seems to produce the actual image as is without any of both of these problems, so it seems to be the preview thats in error. Re: [Bug 1973432] Re: os-prober skip message is misleading
thanks for the quick response! I dont understand what „MVP“ means in that context - i know that abbreviation as minimum viable product, but that doesn’t seem to fit - could you explain what it means here? not totally convinced with saying it’s an “opinion” when there are in fact two different and distinct lines where os-probing is skipped for different reasons, but users get the same message, and one of these skips is not dependent on the said config parameter but existence of a different string in grub.cfg - but yeah maybe i do not yet understand the complexity enough… -- Henning Sprang http://www.sprang.de -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1973432 Title: os-prober skip message is misleading To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1973432/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1973434] [NEW] massive performance issues since 22.04 upgrade
Public bug reported: Hi, After upgrading to 22.04 i had to fight with massive performance issues. Browsers appeared to hang every other minute, youtube videos being laggy and hang in between, applications in a virtualbox VM where slow and also hanging every other minute to a level of not being useable. On a pretty recent and powerful system just 2 years old. I noticed CPU jumps in top, but also somehow thought it could be a graphics issue so invested some time installing nvidia drivers properly. Also I wondered if it might be the lowlatency kernel I normally use because I do audio stuff, and switched to generic. But nothing helped. ThenI had the idea it could be a kernel/scheduler issue because the system wasn't always slow, but it appeared certain things kept hanging when other processed had a lot of cpu for a few seconds. So I got a recent mainline kernel, configured it with my last running config from 21.10 before the update, made the debs and installed them, and now can tell that a mainline kernel 5.17.7 with all the dkms modules that i had before which got compiled automatically at installation brings back a "normal" performance. I can browse the web, run multiple youtube vids at once, even in another browser, have thunderbird running, and a virtualbox machine open with another browser for some web app testing and everything runs fine and smooth, no lagging. Not sure yet what the real reason is - either the kernel version, or a patch in the ubuntu version, or the 22.04 kernel config so far, or some configuration made in 21.10 that isn't good with 22.04 and it's kernel anymore. I will go ahead tomorrow and see if I can build a vanilla kernel with the config from the ubuntu 22.04 kernel and "make oldconfig", then I will be able to tell if only the config is making the difference. Please let me know of there is anything I should test to further analyze this issue, or any ideas I can try to solve it without having to run a mainline manually installed kernel. Thanks. While I am still on my way to understand what that means and if this is probably and error, because the string to search for should be "os- prober", one thing is clearly less than ideal: The information message tells the use to check the "GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER" meaning in grub documentation. But the reason why ths steps is skipped in that code line, is because a greo command. The outout should tell the user so! (ubuntu-bug uploaded my slightly modified version that changes the behaviour, this description refers to the unmodified version!) Re: [Bug 1951698] Re: [upstream] under wayland items in menu bar sub-menus cannot be moved
The output of firefox --version is Mozilla Firefox 97.0 and the package is 97.0+build2-0ubuntu0.21.10.1 amd64 One more thing: I have a bunch of folders in my bookmark taskbar, which means when I pull something out, I need to go back and forth a bit to find a free place where I can drop the icon taken from another folder. When trying a few more times, I succeeded in one of 20 or so cases when I was very quick. So it seems to be either a timing issue or an issue that on a very low level when I'm hovering over another folder on my "way out" to the place where I want to drop the icon the strange effect of "losing the grip" (I hope it's understandable how I describe this) happens... This problem does not exist in X11. There, I can just drag my icon, take all the time I need, let it "travel" over the whole taskbar or even firefox window back and forth until I decide to let the mouse button go so it drops where I just put it to. I also have the general impression that my mouse is a bit faster than on X. But this is really hard to measure exactly and probably not relevant for the issue at hand. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951698 Title: [upstream] under wayland items in menu bar sub-menus cannot be moved To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1951698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1951698] Re: [upstream] under wayland items in menu bar sub-menus cannot be moved
The Bug in the exact way as described originally is gone. I *can* move items *inside* the bookmark toolbar folder up and down. That being said, the handling of bookmark icons and folder still is not "normal" as in X11 sessions! In an X session, I can move Icons also in and out of folders, into subfolders in a taskbar folder, and back again. I can move an Icon from a taskbar bookmark folder directly to the taskbar. Under Wayland I can Move things *inside* a folder, but not back! This is valid from task bar into a main taskbar folder, but not back, and inside a taskbar folder into a subfolder - but not back. On the way back, there is a shortin blinking blue line showing where the icon is about to drop, but before i can let the mouse go to let it drop in that place, the icon goes back into it's original place in the folder. Not sure if I should open a new Bug for that, its probably technically the same area where the bug must hide, and very close to the originally described behaviour, only that up and down works now. [Bug 1950925] Re: alt-tab doesnt work anymore after upgrade to 21.10
maybe it is interesting that, before i got it working under wayland as I want it to be, I reverted back for a while to xorg. It was after I got the hints here to uninstall extensions, that I did that, and only then got back to the wayland session. I dont know why it should be, but it could also be that intermittently using xorg might have fixed something, even though it sound strange.+ The information about the extensions is interesting... and strange. People need their desktop environments to do specific things. The need for more extensions is mainly since Gnome made huge changes and introduced gnome-shell, which had many things of the previous gnome missing. So it's natural and also necessary for many users to get that functionality back. I normally dont install obscure extensions from the internet - but the ones I had solved also another problem. The fact that an update resulted in the nextcloud application being not working well anymore. If I install extensions from regular ubuntu packages I am assuming they are fine to use. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950925 Title: alt-tab doesnt work anymore after upgrade to 21.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1950925/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1952539] Re: Power Mode keeps switching back to balanced afert performance is selected manually
I looked into some more things to get this solved. While the Setting application says my power mode - the one it keeps getting back too despizte I chose another is "balanced", looking into the system it tells mie it's on powersafe: $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/*/cpufreq/scaling_governor powersave ... (repeated with one line like this for each cpu core i have) Looking at cpufreq-info, it tells me there is not "balanced" option: $ /usr/bin/cpufreq-info cpufrequtils 008: cpufreq-info (C) Dominik Brodowski 2004-2009 Report errors and bugs to cpuf...@vger.kernel.org, please. analyzing CPU 0: driver: intel_pstate CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0 maximum transition latency: 4294.55 ms. hardware limits: 800 MHz - 4.80 GHz available cpufreq governors: performance, powersave current policy: frequency should be within 800 MHz and 4.80 GHz. The governor "powersave" may decide which speed to use within this range. current CPU frequency is 4.43 GHz. So I wonder what the balanced option is about, if it's not reflected on the system, but despite that the system keeps going back to it. I read the ubuntu help pages about the power mode, and it says these options in the setting application should do what they look like. But I cant confirm this. It ignores my choices, and reverts back to a setting that doesn't event seem to be known to the system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1952539 Title: Power Mode keeps switching back to balanced after performance is selected manually To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1952539/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1952539] [NEW] Power Mode keeps switching back to balanced afert performance is selected manually
Public bug reported: I want my computer to keep running in performance mode. This worked well with 21.04, but since the upgrade the gnome shell applet tp switch this has been gone, instead in the setting i can now chose between performance / balanced and power saver. When I chose performance, close the settings app, and start doing what I want (make music with applications for this), I soon start to hear latency crackles. I go back to the settings then, and continue to see Power Mode being switched back to Balanced. What would I expect: I would expect after chosing Performance explicitly, it would stay like this. Especially as long as I dont change the power connection state of the machine or reboot, but ideally even when these things happen. But here, it doesn't even stay as selected even though the system is on a power line, and no reboot. It doesn't even last one minute in the state I chose it to be. Public bug reported: When running "ubuntu-bug firefox", it asks me which package of firefox I want to report the bug for and presents me a choice between the snap and the deb version. But the snap version is not actually installed. I thing it was when I upgraded recently to 21.10, but I switched to the deb version. The software management GUI clearly shows that only one of two possible options for firefox is installed, and that it's the deb, not the snap version. [Bug 1951698] [NEW] under wayland items in menu bar sub-menus cannot be moved
Public bug reported: When running firefox on wayland, it appears to be impossible to move bookmark items in the menu bar sub menus. How to reproduce: * haver a gnome session with wayland * have the menu bar toolbar activated * have a folder in the menu bar * have multiple bookmarks in that folder * click on the folder icon in the menu bar, when it opens, try to drag and drop the item to put it into another position - e.g. from the last to the first Expected result: * the bookmark item is move to the new position - this is waht happens when doing these steps with firefox on gnome with an xorg sessions. [Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows
I have this problem too. The real problem for me is less the dots staying in place, but alt-tab not working anymore. With so many people being affected - did anybody find a workaround other than not using wayland or logging in and out? Is there anything people not deeply into Gnome and/or thunderbird development can do to help it getting solved? I tried to kill and get gnome-shell reloaded, as I used to to before sometimes, but that just leads to the whole gnome-shell going down and not coming up again, as far as I understand this is related to using Wayland, where killing gnome shell and having it restart automatically seems not to be supported. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1932328 Title: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/thunderbird/+bug/1932328/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I cannot tell for sure about the overall amount of bugs in Launchpad, but in my own 25 years of software development i dont see how generally requesting dmesg for each and every bug report would have been necessary or helpful. For my concrete situation and launchpad reports, i can tell that at the same time i havent even got any answer for any bug i reported about thunderbird so far… so its not even looked at by maintainers but available to the whole world. (No complain, theres sure enough to do besides caring for a single users rare issues! Only an observation from my perspective) But yeah, there might be insights that i am lacking that make it a good fit. Im not going to insist in changes if you see it as necessary the way it is. Yes I understood that, that's why I explained a bit about jack and that I never saw an apport activity or the problem with the dmesg dialog before just because of jackd. So, I deleted the /var/crash stuff, and locked the screen and back in, as you suggested, but no problem appeared. I could provoke a jack crash again by switching my sound device off while jack was running. Gonna try when back at the device. It could be that the crash reporting > process for jackd actually is asking for dmesg information. Actually i haven’t been aware of a jackd crash recently. but maybe i just didn’t perceive it as one, while it regularly quits when switching off my external audio interface - which might look to apport as unexpected but to me is expected. I definitely don’t remember apport doing something about an jackd crash recently , and this effect described here never appeared before having used ubuntu-bug -w yesterday. -- Henning Sprang http://www.sprang.de -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1935568 Title: after having a bug reported, locked screen, and coming back, ubuntu- bug -w leaves a gksudo dialog for dmesg open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1935568/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1935568] [NEW] after having a bug reported, locked screen, and coming back, ubuntu-bug -w leaves a gksudo dialog for dmesg open
Public bug reported: I reported two bugs today, and both times, after having finished reporting the bug, locking my screen, and logging back in, suddenly there was a dialog asking for my sudo password so it can execute dmesg. But I could neither hit cancel nor could I enter my password, it apperaded that anything I did, especially clicks, made the window *below* the dialog react. First time I solved it by rebooting (because I had some packages to upgrade anyway), second time by killing gnome-shell and letting it restart. This dialog definitely did not appear in the process of reporting the bug, the first time it appeared on screen was minutes after completing the bugreports in launchpad, plus locking and unlocking the screen afterwards. Might also be a problem with gnome-shell or gksudo(?), but it only ever happened to me when using ubuntu-bug -w. [Bug 1935074] [NEW] Plugins cease to work due change in plugin loading and key shortcuts handling
Public bug reported: One example: Thunderbird cannot anymore handle the "s" key shortcut as expected(handing it over to the Nostalgy++ plugin for doing what it does when receiving this key) and as it worked before the update. The developer write: "Attention for TB 78.11: on TB loading, TB first sets Nostalgy keys, and after that, it sets its own TB keys, overwriting the keysetting of Nostalgy. In earlier versions of TB, TB did wait with loadiing of addons until TB itself was ready. That means after TB start, out of the box, the keys do not work. There is a workaround: open TB addons page (tools-> addons), deactivate Nostalgy++ with the blue slider switch, then reactivate Nostalgy++. Re: [Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1914110] Re: Update very old RNBC packages
Imho packages that are outdated to a level that makes them unuseable or much much less capable and/or not beeing supported anymore by upstream because they aren’t taken care for in Debian should be removed until a maintainer is found or the issue is fixed in Debian. Just copying major bodies of work from the original distribution which in turn seems having lost interest in tracking upstream progress is no good explanation for distributing totally outdated stuff. A distribution is ultimately responsible for what it distributes and simply closing such reports is not very friendly towards users. At least such a report could be used to track further steps to improve the definitively unsatisfying situation. -- Henning Sprang http://www.sprang.de -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914110 Title: Update very old RNBC packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rtirq/+bug/1914110/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1713017] Re: Enable MIDI support
as far as I can see in the bluez package source, the midi option is enabled now, so it *could* be closed... But even though it's on, I dont get it working, so I cannot confirm for sure. Expectation is: when connecting to a device, I get an alsa sequencer client, but I dont see that happening. But also I am not sure if I use it correctly, as i see nearly no documentation about it, despite one place that said what I mentioned above in what I expect to happen. I dont even know for sure if this direction is supposed to be unidirectional or bi-directional. (e.g. if my laptop can be the midi host, device or both). I'll keep trying. If anyone has a pointer to docs how it is really supposed to work, so i can confirm, it would be helpful and this ticket could be closed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713017 Title: Enable MIDI support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1713017/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1907005] Re: package is 3 years behind upstream and Debian
@eeickmeyer thanks for updating the package in hirsute! ;) As of the suggestion to use (ubuntu) Studio Controls: As far as I understand, this does not include graphical midi connection management, which is an important thing I use qjackctl for. I am aware of the great work of ubuntustudio, but the last time I installed the packages, sometime beginning of the year, something interfered with my grub setup, rendering my system unbootable. It took a while to get back running(and to find that only purging all ubuntustudio packages somehow solved the problem), without seeing exactly what the problem was, and then i lacked the time to really investigate how it happened and why, to create a proper useful bugreport that would be reproduceable and actionable. So for now, as long as I use these things on my main system that i depend on for my day work, I can only work with small single packages that I know work well for me. If there is any help needed to further maintain qjackctl and keep it up to date for future releases, please let me know what I can do! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1907005 Title: package is 3 years behind upstream and Debian To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qjackctl/+bug/1907005/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1902801] [NEW] Encvrypted attachments cannot be opened or saved as decrypted files
Public bug reported: I have been using enigmail in thunderbird until I upgraded Ubuntu and with it thunderbird to the latest version 1:78.3.2+build1-0ubuntu1 As enigmail is now integrated in thunderbird, I have gone through the painful upgrade process (it does not allow to look into passwordmanager for the pasphrase of the gpg keys it wants to import by blocking all other windows), and decryption of emails now works. But when looking at a decrypted email, fully being able to read the text content, when I want to use the Menu option "Decrypt and Open" by right clicking on an attachment (pdf in this case), nothing happens. What I expect to happen: The pdf file being shown to me in the pdf viewer. Or some error being displayed, or maybe I am asked for my gpg passphrase again for additional security. When trying the option "Decrypt and save as", next I can select a folder and filename, (the pdf name without .gpg) and chose "save" - but when looking into that folder, there is no decrypted file. (I tried this plenty of time, I am sure its not there, and I did this action before the upgrade many times successfully). What I would expect: the attached file without the .gpg suffix (the filename proposed when opening the dialog, which I did not change) in the selected directory. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 20.10 Release:20.10 $ apt-cache policy thunderbird thunderbird: Installed: 1:78.3.2+build1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:78.3.2+build1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:78.3.2+build1-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu groovy/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: mozilla-thunderbird (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1902801 Title: Encvrypted attachments cannot be opened or saved as decrypted files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mozilla-thunderbird/+bug/1902801/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Chuck, why is that changed this way? The very same Calendar works well with the standalone sunbird program - it also takes some secsonds to load at start, but then data is shown and no further problems. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 $ dpkg -l *lightning* Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Cfg-files/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-=-=-== un lightning (no description available) ii lightning-extension 0.9+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 Calendar Extension for Thunderbird/Icedove un lightning-extension-locale-ca (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-cs (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-da (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-de (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-es-ar (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-es-es (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-eu (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-fr (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-ga-ie (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-hu (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-is (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-it (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-ja (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-ka (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-ko (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-lt (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-mk (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-mn (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-nb-no (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-nl (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-nn-no (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-pa-in (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-pl (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-pt-br (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-pt-pt (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-ro (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-ru (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-sk (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-sl (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-sv-se (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-tr (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-uk (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-zh-cn (no description available) un lightning-extension-locale-zh-tw (no description available) please let me kn if you need any further information. ** Affects: lightning (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- After configuring a caldav Calendar, 100% CPU load, caldav not loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482622 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 481440] [NEW] svn status -u not working anymore since upgrade to karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: subversion Upgraded from Jaunty to karmic last week, and using subversion now for the first time since that upgrade. It seems in some strange way the subversion client is now bound to gnome functionality for authenticating against servers and does use the authentication tokens alsready stored in my subversion config directory anymore, instead asking for some gnome "apps" keyring password, which I seem not to know. It looks like this: usern...@myhost:/path/to/workdir$ svn status -u Password for 'apps' GNOME keyring: svn: OPTIONS of 'https://svn.project.org/svn/path/to/repository': authorization failed: Could not authenticate to server: rejected Basic challenge (https://svn.project.org) The client worked perfectly and for many months before this happened. While it might be not a too bad idea to use gnome keyring in general, I see it as a failure that svn does not revert to the "usual" authentication methods if that fails. That's not O.K., and I'm really in trouble now! $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 ** Affects: subversion (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- svn status -u not working anymore since upgrade to karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481440 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have this bug again, even though it's said to be fixed. (I wonder, the line menitioning the fix seems to have nothing to do with the problem described here!) Appears now since I upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic last night. But: only appears for one user! I have another suer opn the same machine, where Icons keep in the place were I put them, even after loout and login. Also, for the affected user, the "Keep aligned" setting cannot be turned off as reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/36244 Or better: if turned off, it's turned on again after next login!
