[Bug 99437] Re: umount: mount disagrees with the fstab

2007-04-27 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
That's great, even though I'm not technical enough to understand what
the patch actually did. However, I was wondering: it is ok to allow
unprivileged users to mount/umount removable devices, but what about
fixed devices? Wouldn't it be better if general users be able to
mount/umount fixed drives only if they are part of some special group,
e.g. mount ?

Suppose that I, as sysadmin of my home PC, have another HD that I use
for backup... I surely wouldn't like my mom or my sister messing around
that hd... Well, just my 2 cents.

[Bug 109502] [Feisty] After install, xorg wont run, Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist)

2007-04-23 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
Public bug reported:

My friend tried to install Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on his PC (which has a
nvidia gfx card): loaded the system with the Live CD and installed it
alright. Upon first boot, xorg couldnt start, droping to the console
with the following error:

Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist)

I thought that it could may be a defective CD, however, I noticed
another user complaining about this on the #ubuntu chat. User
diabolikmachine mentioned that this was probably related to the fact
that the user tried to enable desktop effects on the live cd (and I am
sure that my friend tried that as well).

SOLUTION:

diabolikmachine suggested to that user to do a command line login, and run
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx
The user reported that the problem was fixed.

Anyway, I think that this bug can really mess the will of newcomers to
adopt ubuntu, since that many of them will try out the features in the
live CD before installing. If, upon install, they must do a command line
like that, I think that that will be a little intimidating.

I can confirm this bug. Fresh install of Feisty Fawn, it worked the

and reopen it. After that, the change was noticed by me and the other
peer.

Changing underline, bold, color etc in chat window produced immediate
effects both for me and the other peer. However, changing font was only
apparent to me (maybe because the other peer was using Windows?).

[Bug 90592] Re: upgrade using cd from 6.10 failed

2007-04-18 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
You've installed automatix. Unfortunately, there have been many reports
of automatix causing upgrade problems. Ubuntu can't support upgrades
after installing 3rd party software such as this.

[Bug 107354] gDesklets desklet outputing tons of error msgs

2007-04-17 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdesklets-data

Hi there, this is my first bug report, apologies if it isn't appropriate
- although it is a minor problem, I don't know if this can break
something on the long run.

OS: fresh install of Feisty Fawn RC 20070415

Problem: When using SideCandy Network 0.10 applet, under Gdesklets
0.35.3, a lot of error messages pop up on the log section of gDesklets
, almost 4 msgs per second!

Steps to reproduce:
1- Install gDesklets using Add/Remove... button;
2- In gDesklets, navigate to System/Net and double click SideCandy Network;
3- Right click the gDesklets icon on the taskbar and select  View log;
4- Notice the error messages flowing in (notice that there are 2 wrong
values):

P.S. - I'm not sure if Im posting this in the right way or the right
place. Please, if that's the case, a little hint would be helpful for
future bug reports. Thanks!

[Bug 97109] Re: Gdesklets doesn't work

2007-04-17 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
Using gDesklets with Feisty Fawn RC 20070415 and Beryl.

At first, it seemed that when I run Beryl AFTER gDesklets, the desklets
doesnt work (in my case, I was using the SideCandy class of desklets,
and they simply vanished).

By closing gDesklets and running it again, everything worked just fine.
I can even rotate the cube and still see the desklets.

[Bug 91381] Re: All gdesklets weather applets fail to retrieve data

2007-04-17 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
Feisty Fawn RC 20070415

I can confirm this.

Attaching a screenshot showing all weather desklets failing to gather
data.

[Bug 66473] Re: Unable to position Taskbar type Desklets (Infodomestics specifically, others fail also)

2007-04-17 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
Using Feisty RC 20070415

I can confirm this. The toolbar keeps attached to the cursor, and
clicking to place the toolbar on the right place was simply erratic
(other windows gained focus or maximized). The only solution was to
close gdesklets, by right clicking the icon on the taskbar and selecting
close (with the toolbar still attached).

[Bug 92652] Re: C-cedil not present in US-International keyboard

2007-04-17 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
I must say that this behaviour is a let down for portuguese/brazilian
users. At least for me (BR), I'm very well used to typing ' and C to
produce Ç , and I really hope that someday this can work in ubuntu out
of the box . After all, internationalization isn't a priority of this
distro?

When I give out free ubuntu CD's to my friends, I expect them to use it
and enjoy it as much as I do - but it ruins my advocacy when one of
them calls me to ask why am I getting ć 's instead of ç 's when using
OpenOffice... not being able to TYPE correctly is surely a serious
problem for me.

[Bug 72468] Re: Trash looks empty, isn't

2007-04-17 Thread Júlio Alexandrino
Using Feisty RC 20070415 here, with Beryl.

I dont know if this happened when I changed window managers from Beryl
to metacity and vice versa, but Im looking now at an empty recycle bin
in the right corner of my screen that contains 12 files that were
previously in my Desktop before I deleted them. BTW, when I hover the
mouse pointer over the trash bin, a popup message reads No items in
Trash. When I right click it, the option to empty the recycle bin
greyed out too.

So, I can confirm this bug.
