Just happened for me today on kernel 2.6.27-8. But it was the first
appearance of the bug for some time now. But the scheme is the same -
high network load whilst downloading torrents. The difference was that
this time the processor load was more noticeable then usual (today the
system was
I've just got the freeze with flashing caps lock/num lock. To reboot I
needed to use power button so was quite serious... :/ I haven't seen any
particular reason or thing in the logs. I just get this sort of messages
all the time (messaes, syslog, kern.log):
Nov 10 15:51:21 newdumolap kernel: [
The time of the lock up was on 16:06. As I said here is nothing in the
logs. Every aforementioned log have message:

It's about a week after I've installed the linux-backports-modules and
problem seems to be gone (at least it haven't occured ever since). In
case the bug will occur I'll report it.
BTW I'm using 8.10 on Samsung Q310. As said before the bug seems to be
connected with extensive use of WiFi (I use
I've been cheering too soon... The bug is still here (just occured).
Same scheme: WiFi, torrent download, the flooding started after some
time from the begining of the download. One thing for sure that the bug
occurs less often (f.e. I've downloaded ubuntu iso several times just to
test it and
Affects generic image as well. Frankly, the bug started to occur
annoyingly often (3 times yesterday, 1 time today). I used hardy for
some time with this machine as well (a month or so and I'm Ubuntu and
Linux in general everyday user) and I haven't seen it before (this sort
of a bug).

Same here on 8.10 beta. To make wammu work just have to install package
python-wxgtk2.8 (with all dependences). Wammu package have currently
following dependences: python-wxgtk2.6 | python-wxgtk2.8 therefore it
automatically installs python-wxgtk2.6 (which apparently doesn't work
properly).

Yes its basically the same issue as in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278764 .
Example - in python (ipython) console type:
from pylab import *
plot([1,2,3])
show()
You should see a window with a straight line. With 'backend: Agg' the
window after show() just wont appear (without any error).
Same on Samsung Q310 with 8.10 Beta. For me removing splash option does
the trick (loading passes 'Loading hardware drivers' every time).

I've tried to install Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 AMD64. The laptop reboots

Here you are... :) I attached to process (apt-get dist-upgrade --fix-
missing) when apt asks me for confirmation (part 'Czy chcesz kontynuować

packages so apt tries to download only the missing.

What exactly mean 'reproduce'...?? Wait for another hang or just run

I checked once more and it looks like problem isn't in the update-
manager itself but apt in general. In my case update-manager hangs
because it has problem with downloading some packets. Apt (using console
this time) also is stopping at the same point. When I changed repository

I had the same problem (at Feisty 2.6.20-9-generic). It's connected with
'brltty' which is generating the conflict. Below I've attached part of
