Re: [Bug 1854995] Re: chromium-browser crashes on 4K system
Hi Olivier, I have determined that it is a bug in the display driver. How do I get the display driver to output something? It gives no output even if enabled=1 in /etc/default/apport. Re: [Bug 1854995] Re: chromium-browser crashes on 4K system
Hi Olivier, The file _usr_bin_software-properties-gtk.0.crash should be examined first, as I believe it to be the root cause of the crash. It's only 83 KB. There was also an excessively large 115 MB chromium crash log file called _usr_lib_chromium-browser_chromium-browser.1000.crash. Are you able to take such files? Best Regards, John. [Bug 1854995] [NEW] chromium-browser crashes on 4K system
Public bug reported: There is a bug which affects chromium-browser intermittently (it also affects the firefox browser, but not in necessarily the same way). [Bug 51573] Re: Please update HPLIP to 1.6.7
Check out the HPLIP page at SourceForge. The nice folks at HP have made a binary installer package (since HPLIP 1.6.9), which works in Dapper. The current version is HPLIP 1.6.10, and the binary installer can be downloaded from http://hplip.sourceforge.net/downloads.html - John -- Please update HPLIP to 1.6.7 https://launchpad.net/bugs/51573 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50840] Re: scilab 4
Scilab 3.0-12 included in Dapper repositories has severe font problems. It appears to use a Tamili font, which makes it useless for those who don't understand English words in Tamili characters (probably most of us). An upgrade to v4 might be better. -- scilab 4 https://launchpad.net/bugs/50840 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 48387] Re: CUPS 1.2.0 disabled by ServerName in client.conf
OK. The lack of fax support in HPLIP 0.9.7 contributed to the problem (or at least to my confusion). I think fax support was added in 0.9.8, and it's now up to version 1 - although they numbered it 1.6.6. It would be quite good to have a recent HPLIP available as a binary package for Ubuntu. The installation from the source package at Sourceforge is less straightforward than it should be, as there are a few script glitches. -- CUPS 1.2.0 disabled by ServerName in client.conf https://launchpad.net/bugs/48387 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 48387] Re: CUPS 1.2.0 disabled by ServerName in client.conf
OK. It can be closed. By restoring backups, I was able to replicate the scenario which led me to believe that autodetection was working. A second PC using Breezy with HPLIP 0.9.11 had been configured with the HP URIs for the Officejet, and published both the fax and the printer via cups. The laptop (also Breezy with HPLIP 0.9.11) autodetected them on this PC. Both PCs were later upgraded to Dapper. The HPLIP included with Dapper is 0.9.7, which does not support the fax function. Now that I have upgraded to HPLIP 1.6.6, both print and fax are available. However at least one PC must connect to the Officejet using the URIs in order for the other PC to autodetect via cups. With a fixed IP on the Officejet, I can connect all PCs using the URIs. Thanks Best Regards, John. -- CUPS 1.2.0 disabled by ServerName in client.conf https://launchpad.net/bugs/48387 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50810] partimage cannot read image files it created (workaround exists)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: partimage This is probably an upstream problem in partimage, rather than a Dapper problem. Partimage 0.6.4 shipped with Dapper fails to read image files which it creates if the gzip compression option is selected. It save the partition into files with names such as hda5saved.000, whether the gzip option is selected or not. When attempting to restore a partition from a file saved with the gzip option, partimage gives an error message Invalid compression level for hda5saved.000. It gives this error during command line or interactive restore operations, or in response to an imginfo operation. Luckily, there is a workaround: If the saved file is less than 2GB in size, then simply renaming it as hda5saved.gz will fix the problem. Then both restore and imginfo operations will work correctly. If the saved file exceeds 2GB in size, then an additional step is necessary. The saved file must be uncompressed and piped to stdin of partimage (as root): gunzip -c hda5saved.gz | partimage imginfo stdin gunzip -c hda5saved.gz | partimage restore /dev/hda5 stdin So it seems that there are two aspects to the problem. One is inconsistent file naming assumptions between the save operation and the restore or imginfo operations. The second is using a file write which can handle large files, but using a file read which is limited to 2GB per file. - John. ** Affects: partimage (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- partimage cannot read image files it created (workaround exists) https://launchpad.net/bugs/50810 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 48387] Re: CUPS 1.2.0 disabled by ServerName in client.conf
Apparently, the printer itself does not respond on port 631, so I guess it does not natively support ipp. When I was running Breezy, it definitely autodetected the printer (print and fax). My best hypothesis to explain this is that (i) I had windows running on another PC on the net, with HP software installed which autodetected all functions of the Officejet, and (ii) this windows PC may have published the printer on port 631. This PC is also running Dapper now, so I can't easily replicate the scenario. My network has been reconfigured with fixed IP addresses for all devices normally connected, and now uses DHCP only for ad hoc connections. Thanks for the assistance. -- CUPS 1.2.0 disabled by ServerName in client.conf https://launchpad.net/bugs/48387 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
