[Bug 1800238] Re: TechnoTrend TT-TVStick CT2-4400 (v2) stopped working with kernel 4.18
Yes, tried an unsigned kernel of [0] (linux-image- unsigned-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb with linux- modules-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb) and it shows exactly the same behaviour as cosmic's default kernel. Forgot to mention: w_scan closes with error message "ERROR: Sorry - i couldn't get any working frequency/transponder Nothing to scan!!" Unfortunately the Debian installation where everything went fine was on the same SSD I installed Ubuntu, now. So, I can't verify if the firmware I used there was exactly the same. On the other hand, 4.15 (kind of) works with ubuntu cosmic, so, IMHO and speaking as a layman this looks like a regression to me… -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800238 Title: TechnoTrend TT-TVStick CT2-4400 (v2) stopped working with kernel 4.18 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1800238/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1800238] [NEW] TechnoTrend TT-TVStick CT2-4400 (v2) stopped working with kernel 4.18
Public bug reported: Dear developer(s), I used a vdr-installation on Debian testing, before. Switched over to Ubuntu since the release of cosmic because of problems with GPU/steam under Debian. Now, I have problems to configure vdr because my TV stick doesn't seem to work with kernel 4.18. This is what I did: Installed Ubuntu, upgraded via aptitude to the latest packages, got the firmware "dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw" and "dvb-tuner-si2158-a20-01.fw" (as it was recommended by *I guess it was* openelec.org and the modinfo output of si2168 and si2157), tried w_scan and failed (w_scan *can* find some signals but failes in getting the channels). That looks like this, f.e.: […} Scanning DVB-T2... 474000: (time: 01:38.796) 482000: (time: 01:43.155) 49: (time: 01:45.163) signal ok:QAM_AUTO f = 49 kHz I999B8C999D999T999G999Y999P0 (0:0:0) Info: no data from PAT after 2 seconds deleting (QAM_AUTO f = 49 kHz I999B8C999D999T999G999Y999P0 (0:0:0)) […] Now, I tried an older kernel - 4.15, because it's still in the cosmics' repository and tried w_scan again: Success, although the TV-Stick doesn't find all the channels I found with Debian Testing. So, maybe there's a regression in the latest kernel regarding the TV- Stick-driver or there is another firmware which will work better with 4.18…? Would be glad if someone could help to work that out… Greets! [Bug 876975] [NEW] powerpc: /proc is empty, yaboot can't install bootloader
Public bug reported: Tried the new oneiric-desktop-powerpc.iso (and checked the md5sum before :) ). Went fine while booting but I got an error while installing Ubuntu: An error has been detected while trying to use the specified Ubuntu archive mirror.[…] Please check the specified mirror or try a different one I chrooted in /target, added a mirror in a self-created sources.list and made an apt-get update. After this - back on Unity - I pressed the o.k. -buttom from the error-window above and got a Installation complete-window. I tried to reboot and failed. Another turn: (After chrooting in /target) I checked if there was a feasable yaboot.conf in /etc, but there wasn't. Tried yabootconfig from console: This utility requires the /proc filesystem ?!? #: mount […] proc on /proc type proc (rw,relatime) […] #: ls /proc [nothing] Don't know, if the error-message about the mirror has got sth to do with the missing proc-fs, but I guess the installation could be finished even if there wasn't a working mirror reachable, but if there was sth in the /proc directory. [Bug 791588] Re: no idmapd for nfs4-clients
Why are you trying to run rpc.idmapd by hand? Because I wanted to see if idmapd is able to start, anyway, and if not, I expected the terminal output of idmapd is useful for bugfixing. :) Thanks for the quick reply, by the way… Just to make sure, I don't confuse things here: You mean, if I started idmapd by sudo service idmapd start, everything would be fine for nfs4? Or do you agree, there's something wrong with nfs4 in Ubuntu and beside this you wanted to give a hint, how to use upstart right? (Really - I appreciate this! This upstart things are confusing to me - I'm using Debian for quite a while, now.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/791588 Title: no idmapd for nfs4-clients -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 791588] Re: no idmapd for nfs4-clients
I'm using it this way myself without any trouble. If you have already installed nfs-kernel-server on your system, you are right: dpkg installs several directories under /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs with that package, also the nfs directory, needed for idmapd (as server AND client). But if you only install nfs-common, idmapd won't start until you mkdir /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs by hand. Promise! That's the only way I can make idmapd run on a nfs-client-only-machine with only nfs-common installed, otherwise it fails - this is prooven to work on all my Ubuntu-machines, even on the netbook: idmapd does run, now (- although I get the same funny nonsense about the owners and groups in nautilus and with ls -l in the terminal on the netbook like before. But this is only on the netbook and it seems to be another issue. It may have nothing to do with idmapd on the nfs-client.) To be more precise: idmapd now is running automatically on startup (no need for manual work), just like configured in /etc/default/nfs-common and just like expected - but that is AFTER I created the needed /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs directory by hand, which does not exist after a clean Ubuntu 11.04 install with just nfs-common installed. Hope, that was clear, now! :) Greets! [Bug 791588] [NEW] no idmapd for nfs4-clients
Public bug reported: Hello! Thought this one is bug-report for nfs-common. (And I really typed ubuntu-bug nfs-common - I'm innocent! I was redirected!) I have a debian nfs-server that uses nfs4 and it isn't possible for ubuntu to use nfs4-mounts properly, because idmapd won't start although it's configured in /etc/default/nfs-common: ### $ cat /etc/default/nfs-common NEED_STATD= STATDOPTS= NEED_IDMAPD=yes NEED_GSSD= ### A ps aux executed on both server and client shows that on the server rpc.idmapd is running, but on the client side it's not. Executing rpc.idmapd on the client manually fails: ### $ sudo rpc.idmapd -fv rpc.idmapd: libnfsidmap: using domain: localdomain rpc.idmapd: libnfsidmap: loaded plugin /usr/lib/libnfsidmap/nsswitch.so for method nsswitch rpc.idmapd: Expiration time is 600 seconds. rpc.idmapd: Opened /proc/net/rpc/nfs4.nametoid/channel rpc.idmapd: Opened /proc/net/rpc/nfs4.idtoname/channel rpc.idmapd: main: (/var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs): No such file or directory ### Easy workaround: create that directory! ### $ sudo mkdir /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs ### Unfortunately, this doesn't fix the problem on all ubuntu machines. I have three of them: A Powermac G4 with an Ubuntu 11.04 fallback Gnome 2.x-Desktop, a 64bit-machine as a HTPC with a minimal Ubuntu installation running XBMC and a netbook with Unity-Desktop. The first two do, the netbook doesn't. Could be a problem with WLAN (the netbook is not cable-connected) or the server configuration. Got to check a few things here… But one thing's clear: As long as the package nfs-common doesn't create a /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs directory, idmapd won't start and there is no chance to get nfs4 working properly. I've decided that since my computer was probably never designed for Ubuntu or Linux, it's foolish to expect reliable performance now that I have researched the issue. If I want Linux or Ubuntu, I'll have to buy a computer designed and tested with Linux software. I see computers on the market certified as compatible with Linux http://webapps.ubuntu.com/certification/ ; and, from what I have seen, compatibility is so complicated, I'll never get satisfactory performance from generic configurations. There too many parameters to coordinate for me to expect free software to work with my HP computers that were designed for Windows, not Linux. I did, however, get some experience with Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux that convinces me that buying a factory configured computer will be a good investment. Open source software seems like a good investment, power to the people. Thanks for the help. I hope my information is of some value to you. I know the free software was a good investment for me and the people who support Linux and Ubuntu. I would say the probability of me now buying Ubuntu/Linux computers is 60%. I can't see investing more money in Windows when I can get as good or better from Ubuntu/Linux. In particular I like: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/latitude-2110/pd?~ck=anavhttp://www.dell.com/us/business/p/latitude-2110/pd?%7Eck=anavI won't know if investing in Linux/Ubuntu is a good investment compared to Windows until I have purchased and used a Linux machine. I would say that based on the free experience of Ubuntu 10.04 from Canonical, I will buy an Ubuntu/Linux machine next. I'd say there is a 100% probability of me doing one of the following: 1) Buying a cheap Windows XP PC and installing free Canonical Ubuntu 10.04 over the Windows installation. There would only be one boot option to Ubuntu. 10% probability. 2) Buying http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/latitude-2110/pd?~ck=anavhttp://www.dell.com/us/business/p/latitude-2110/pd?%7Eck=anavor something similar. 90% probability. Free untested configurations are an investment in time and money that most likely would be better spent on certified configurations from Dell, HP, or Canonical. Living in California puts me in close proximity to sources where I can spend reasonable amounts of money and get a satisfactory return on my investment in open source computer software on reliable hardware platforms. I'm a retired computer software professional; so, I know enough to know I don't need to spend big bucks on branded products when unbranded alternatives will do just fine. For example, Open Office is working quite well for me. I still have Microsoft Office 2007 software, but the Open Office word processor and spreadsheet work just fine for my low key usage. I would never advise a poor person to invest in branded software when they can get free software that works well. I selected the option to show the seconds in the time display and to play system sounds. After applying the first 174 updates, I now get the dual boot screen after I select the Ubuntu option; there are only two options: Microsoft Windows Vista and Ubuntu. [Bug 668767] [NEW] package nvidia-173 173.14.22-0ubuntu11 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build
Public bug reported: The only event I noticed was a failure of updates. I have not noticed any graphic errors other than an annoying event when using open office text editor which may not be connected with nvidia: When I type a space, the cursor does not advance until after I type a character after typing the space. Typing multiple spaces does not advance the cursor. In Microsoft Word 2007, the cursor advances after I type a space. Back to nvidia, I am not noticing any problems that I can connect to nvidia. I'm not even sure what nvidia is. I do notice that Rhythmbox Music Player does not always launch on first attempt to launch it. For some reason, at times, I have to launch it twice before it comes up. At times it launches right away, when I first start my computer and have not used any other programs before launching Rhythmbox Music Player. [Bug 499445] Re: Conflicts between Broadcom 4312 wireless driver and internal Bluetooth on HP Mini 110
Hi! I had a very similar problem described above with a Dell Inspirion Mini 10 using the same broadcom chipset for wireless LAN and bluetooth. Everything went perfectly with both bluetooth and WLAN as long as I had the original Version of Dells delivered Ubuntu 8.04 LPIA. I updated to 9.04 x86 and bluetooth was no more - the same with 9.10 and 10.04. According to your posts, the bug should be fixed in lucid - unfortunately on this machine it's not. The version of bcmwl-kernel-source used on this machine is called 5.60.48.36+bdcom-0ubuntu3. WLANs working perfectly, Bluetooth doesn't even show up in lspci, lsusb or hciconfig. I remember a tool on the original Dell-Ubuntu called the aircraft-manager - or something like that - where someone could stop or start wireless services (BT or WLAN seperately). If the bluetooth-stuff is really completely done in software this could be a clue to a sollution. Unfortunately I don't remember which kernel modules the original Ubuntu uses, today it's wl on lucid. -- Conflicts between Broadcom 4312 wireless driver and internal Bluetooth on HP Mini 110 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499445 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 255678] Re: GSPCA webcam no longer working: no /dev/video0
Got a good hint in #440590: The modules must be reloaded after boottime to work correctly: modprobe -r gspca-sunplus modprobe gscpa-sunplus That does the trick for me! Got it working. The problem was not, that rc.local wasn't executed, but the modprobe trick seems to work only, if booting is finished. My rc.local now looks like this: modprobe -r gspca_sunplus sleep 60s modprobe gspca_sunplus exit 0 Now, everything works. -- GSPCA webcam no longer working: no /dev/video0 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/255678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 451599] [NEW] [9.10 regression] HDA power_save=10
Public bug reported: As said in: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel- discuss/2009-May/008239.html and Bug#380892 I file a new bugreport awith my hardware attached! Keep in mind, that I do post this from a 9.04, but the bug appears in 9.10...! I can also add to the other bug reports about this topic, I also hear a high feep when the sound-device is sleeping. I have an amplifier-card installed on my system - I have no possibility to turn down the volume. I have this clicking and beeping nearly all the time... At least I know where to shutoff this behaviour. :) Greetings! I can't mount it. The good news about it is that I no longer get an error message from nautilus on every start up... :) I got this behaviour since intrepid. So, no change for me in jaunty and karmic. Conclusion: Ubuntu recognizes the device correctly, all modules are loaded - but there is no /dev/video. Is it possible to try a mknod by hand? If yes, what are the correct options (major and minor numbers) to do it? Maybe, it's the missing thing to do to get a working webcam... O.k. - maybe not, but it's worth a try! :) Greetings! [Bug 255678] Re: GSPCA webcam no longer working: no /dev/video0
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 260918 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260918 I guess, the duplicate status of this bug is wrong. It starts with a report, that /dev/videoX is not created when plugging a gspca-webcam. This is also my problem, running Ubuntu 8.10 with a 2.6.27-8-generic kernel and an Aiptek Minicam, which is recognized as a Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd SPCA504a Digital Camera. (The other comments complain about problems with some applications, but most of the reporters HAD a /dev/video on their machine!) Reffering to the drivers, I had no problems in hardy and earlier versions of Ubuntu using the gspca module. The /dev/video0 file was created and I could use the device with ekiga and lately cheese. So me and the reporter of the initial bugreport have a problem with the driver (gspca_XXX), not with a library (libv4l) as in #260918. [Bug 89467] Re: [feisty] f-spot and system inputs freeze when using xorg via-/unichrome-driver
@Brice Harrington: I don't agree. 3D is working on my system with both via- and unichrome-driver. I'm playing Ri-Li, Tremulous, Gnome-Chess in 3D, Scorched3D and OpenArena without any of the problems reported in bug 43154. There are several games that don't work with this driver (f.e. Nexuiz, TORCS and Balazar) - the games are crashing on my system - but with these games I have never had a freeze like it is discussed here (with the system still available over ssh) or on the other bug-reports for the via/unichrome-driver (with system freeze, forcing the user to reboot). F-Spot is the only application that I have experienced a x-server-freeze with. [Bug 89467] Re: [feisty] f-spot freezes system when trying to import pictures
The subject of this bugreport is misleading (freezes system), but I can confirm, that f-spot sometimes just blocks the mouse, the keyboard and the monitor. My system's is still alive and can be used via network (by ssh f.e.). When I kill f-spot (via ssh) everything goes back to normal, I can use the system as before. I guess, that all the others reporting the bug, don't really experience a system freeze! I even guess, that the one reported bug no. 104372 didn't experienced a total lock-up, but it just looks like one - if you can't use your mouse and keyboard, your monitor is frozen and you've got no network-machine to find out, if your computer's dead or not: How to find out? I'm also using the Unichrome-GPU from VIA and the via-driver of x.org! There seems to be the problem. Here we go! Some comments to the Attachment: I got this error as I wanted to import a bundle of pictures. First time, I imported the pictures but I found out, that the gnome-terminal didn't save enough lines. So, I tried it once again, because the pictures seemed not to be imported. What you see here is the output of the second time. Unfortunately, f-spot wasn't able to find the pictures again (although they were in the same directory *???*) and I escaped. Gladly f-spot did crash, also, so I hope this output leads to the right issue! [Bug 91807] Re: evolution per-contact crypto-sign preference
Just to confirm what Peter Miller wrote. I used Thunderbird/Enigmail and the encryption integration was a charm. I liked the individual encryption-settings for each contact. As I only use GnuPG, the only thing I need is a checkbox, saying: Use encryption if key is available in the settings for evolution then I didn't have to activate it any time I want to sent an encrypted message. This would be even more user-friendly than the Thunderbird/Enigmail solution, because if I have a public key from someone, I normally want to use it - and if I don't want, then I have to disable encryption mail by mail OR delete the key with seahorse (for individual setting) OR uncheck the discribed checkbox (as a default value).
