[Bug 874700] Re: [Lenovo Edge 11/13] Card reader does not work with any type of card

2013-01-06 Thread Richard Wonka
I have a ThinkPad edge 13 and the card reader used to work fine, but now
does not seem to work at all or sometimes only reports cards 5+ minutes
after sticking them into the slot. I have not found out how to reproduce
the late recognition.

syslog stays completely quiet during this delay.

[Bug 920247] Re: display freezes at (random?) times

2012-03-02 Thread Richard Wonka
It turns out that it's not a complete lock up, but that there is no refresh
happening, even though the system keeps running.
More details on the symptoms:

* screen freezes (all/any open windows stay completely unchanged)
* The mouse pointer still moves
* With the screen unchanged, the mouse pointer changes when hovering over
(invisible) text fields, etc...

What can I do for further de-bugging?

I have not found a way to reproduce this. It seems to happen when I have
a lot of stuff happening all at once...

[Bug 871207] Re: Ubuntu one doesn't allow to add this machine

2012-03-02 Thread Richard Wonka
That workaround worked around things. :-) Thank you.

** Description changed:

I recently moved my user account to a new laptop and found that U1 was
still tracking my machine using the hostname of the old laptop.

As a consequence, I removed my old laptop from the list of devices on
U1, in order to then add my machine with the correct name.

Now I fail to connect my new laptop to U1 and the U1 client starts,
reports an authentication failure and then goes back to offering me to
Join in or I already have an account.

  What now?

frequently, everything but the mouse on my screen freezes. Moving the

[Bug 891606] [NEW] printer gets added to system multiple times, stops working entirely.

2011-11-17 Thread Richard Wonka
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade to oneiric, my HP LJ P1102 is rendered essentially
unusable.

When plugged in, it gets recognised and added to the system automatically, then
sometimes finishes one job and is unusable after.
When I want to use it the next time, it doesn't do anything.

Removing and re-plugging the printer (USB) gets me back to square one.

Printing is rendered essentially broken.

2011-10-10 Thread Richard Wonka
Ah, sorry, I failed to mention that the same happens over and over again
when I click on I already have an account - no credentials asked. The
U1 client shows the user interface as I used to see it when logged on,
but displays a red error message in the top, complaining about a failed
authentication, then switches back to the welcome screen. [repeat ad
infinitum]

[Bug 871207] [NEW] Ubuntu one doesn't allow to add this machine

2011-10-09 Thread Richard Wonka
Public bug reported:

I recently moved my user account to a new laptop and found that U1 was
still tracking my machine using the hostname of the old laptop.

As a consequence, I removed my old laptop from the list of devices on
U1, in order to then add my machine with the correct name.

Now I fail to connect my new laptop to U1 and the U1 client starts,
reports an authentication failure and then goes back to offering me to
Join in or I already have an account.

What now?

[Bug 820374] [NEW] Empathy ignores denying contact requests

2011-08-03 Thread Richard Wonka
Public bug reported:

When running empathy, I keep getting the same request from users to see
when I am on line. When I then click [No], the same request will come up
minutes later again. This seems to mostly happen via Yahoo! and AIM, but
I'm not sure, as I don't know how to see where a request (or any chat
for that matter) comes from.

I then would like to report the person bugging me, but there seems to be
no such option. This is important, as I get quite some spammerbots
chatting me up and they are only entertaining for so long..

[Bug 790130] Re: no pressure sensitivity with wacom tablet in inkscape

2011-06-24 Thread Richard Wonka
Okay, I have found something out.

I was reinstalling natty today (new harddrive, same 'puter) and found
that inkscape was giving me pressure sensitivity. It was working.

Then I used apt-clone to get all the installs from my old system. Which
installed huge numbers of packages and a new kernel - will try to get a
list of all of them..

NOW inkscape is back to the buggy behaviour. No pressure sensitivity.

So it looks like this bug is either in a recent kernel or an allergy to
another package.

The attached log file contains all packages that have been installed on
this system until today.

The interesting lines are from 2011-06-24 When it worked earlier in the
day as soon as I had installed inkscape (running the kernel that had
come with the live/install system from USB) and stopped working some
time after running apt-clone.

** Attachment added: all installations that have happened on this machine
until today.

[Bug 790130] [NEW] no pressure sensitivity with wacom tablet in inkscape

2011-05-30 Thread Richard Wonka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: inkscape

I am using inkscape 0.48 with a wacom pen touch (CTH-460/k)

I have been using this combination before and everything was working
fine, but - probably - since the upgrade to natty pressure sensitivity
does not work any more, whereas it is working fine, e.g. in the gimp.

I have double- and triple-checked the settings. The tablet is recognised
and everything is enabled and set to screen. Yet, no joy.

I'd like to work with this again, as this is a productive envrionment...

Re: [Bug 742246] Re: regression: snd-hda-intel Internal microphone in thinkpad does not record

2011-04-01 Thread Richard Wonka
Hey David,

sorry for not following up on this.

For some reason an update had disabled my input device (I can't think of
anything else that would have triggered this..) I have been able to
re-enable it in the sound preferences and had no more trouble since.

BTW: I have a Lenovo Think Pad Edge 13 (Intel) - are you sure asus is
what I should put in there? Might want to think about renaming that
option, whatever it does. :-)

Greetings and sorry again for not updating.

Richard

Hi Richard and thanks for your bug report. It looks like the right model
for you to use in Natty would be model=asus - can you confirm that the
 asus model works as well?

[Bug 742246] [NEW] regression: Internal microphone in thinkpad does not record

2011-03-24 Thread Richard Wonka
Public bug reported:

I am running Natty (11.04) doing multiple updates daily.

The internal mic in my Lenovo Thinkpad 13 (Intel) did not work until I
added the thinkpad option to snd-hda-intel like this:

%
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad
%

As of yesterday, (2011-03-24) my mic is silent again. Skype, empathy
video chat all worked, but now that's over..

[Bug 593080] Re: alps touchpad clicks erratic, deteriorating

2010-07-21 Thread Richard Wonka
the same happens with the 32bit version of ubuntu 10.04 installed on the
system.

Touchpad is _unusable_ and renders mouse unusable as well unless
disabled by running

# modprobe -r psaux

please help. This sucks.

[Bug 593080] Re: alps touchpad clicks erratic, deteriorating

2010-06-16 Thread Richard Wonka
Okay, found a mouse and the behaviour is the same

More information on that one:

It is only button1 that is affected and it is the same with the touchpad
or a mouse.

A usb mouse plugged in will work at first, but then lose the use of the
left (Button1) mouse button, as verified using

xev | grep -i button

Only Button2++ presses are reported after a while. Apart from time of
use, I have not found anything in particular that will reproduce this
behaviour.

Number of clicks seems not to be the problem, counting repeated clicks
in xev did not reproduce failure of Button1.

Where to look next??

P.S.:

The mouse reports in as

---%--- `lsusb`
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 046d:c058 Logitech, Inc.

[Bug 593080] Re: synaptics touchpad clicks working erratically

2010-06-13 Thread Richard Wonka
New input on this one:

touchpad performance can be restored temporarily by

# modprobe -r psmouse modprobe psmouse proto=imps

for some time, functionality is restored, but will deteriorate within
minutes.

repeated reloading of the module seems to consistently restore
functionality when taps start being ignored.

This is greatly affecting usability of the system, please up its level.

[Bug 593080] [NEW] synaptics touchpad clicks working erratically

2010-06-12 Thread Richard Wonka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

clicking via tap or hardware-button only works occasionally, often the
mouse will hang in a pressed-state.

Loading module synaptics_i2c got rid of this behaviour temporarily, but
now the issue is back, even though synaptics_i2c is still loaded.

Several days before the issue came up, I installed the package
'gpointing-device-properties' and enabled two-finger- and circular
scroll, which did not work for me - the touchpad just kept working as
before for some days, until this came up.

Disabling the above features and uninstalling gpointing-device-
properties has not helped.

After reinstalling, gpointing-device-properties does not list the
touchpad any more.

Any clues?

:)
