[Bug 211966] Re: nautilus-share report a warning about missing /var/lib/samba/usershares

2016-10-26 Thread Sebastian Meyer
I am running Ubuntu 16.04.1 and can confirm the appearance of this error
message in the terminal when nautilus is launched. The error sometimes
also pops up in a notification window, as observed in Comment #21.

Since I do not use the nautilus-share extension, I simply removed the
corresponding package to get rid of this error - as suggested in a comment on
the duplicate bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-share/+bug/225859/comments/3).

[Bug 1427860] Re: tpm error

2015-10-08 Thread Sebastian Meyer
I confirm the reported TPM error message "A TPM error (6) occurred after
attempting to read a pcr value", which recently started to appear during
boot on my ThinkPad T420s running Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, currently with
kernel 3.19.0-30.

I followed RikT's comment at
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1086005#p1086005 to disable
the security chip in the BIOS (which is different from the default
setting "inactive"), since I am not using it anyway. Now I only get

$ dmesg | grep TPM
[0.540023] ima: No TPM chip found, activating TPM-bypass!

which does not show up during boot (no error). My BIOS version is
8CET51WW (1.31) released at 11/29/2011.

[Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

I confirm the freeze when using the touchpad and the nVidia GPU on my
nVidia Optimus laptop (specifications below). I thus went to nvidia-
settings and selected Intel (Power Saving Mode) in the PRIME
Profiles. Now, prime-select query prints intel, the bug does not
bother me any more, and the laptop has far more battery life.

You can make the trashcan visible on the desktop by running:
gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.desktop trash-icon-visible true

[Bug 925760] Re: Constant warnings from the kernel: Test WP failed, assume Write Enabled

2012-10-18 Thread Sebastian Meyer
For the record:
There is hardware with faulty slot plug-in switches, namely the EeeBox B202
(one of the earlier Intel-Atom-in-a-small-box-boxes).
Mine has an empty tray, but displays that message on the tty every 51 seconds.

lsusb reveals the bad device (snippet):
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:0158 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. USB 2.0
 multicard reader

Obviously, doing an rmmod ums_realtek solves the issue of annoying trash
on the tty.

I am not fluent in rsyslog configuration, but maybe it is possible to
reroute that message to /dev/null?

[Bug 781520] [NEW] dependency on old libperl5.10

2011-05-12 Thread Sebastian Meyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

1) Release Ubuntu Oneiric (Development Branch)
2) libpurple0 2.7.11-1 [and also affects pidgin 2.7.11-1]
3) Install libpurple0 for telepathy-haze
4) apt-get telling me about dependency problems

I am on Ubuntu oneiric (dev branch 11.10) and just found out that
telepathy-haze's ICQ support is broken. This is due to libpurple0 (as well as
pidgin itself) depending on libperl5.10 and perlapi-5.10.1, which are
unavailable (checked on http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/pidgin), current is
libperl5.12 and perlapi-5.12.3.
Installing a virtual package supplying both packages seems to work for ICQ
support in telepathy-haze, but I didn't do any further testing/investigation in
pidgin itself (not installed anymore).

Attached is an ugly ctl file for equiv-build to hack pidgin/telepathy-
haze support back to oneiric until this is fixed (though I guess it
won't be too long?). Make sure perl5.12 is installed ;-)

[Bug 401499] Re: System log viewer keeps displaying error message /var/log/btmp The file is not a regular file or not a text file

2010-10-20 Thread Sebastian Meyer
I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (Lucid Lynx), x86_64 GNU/Linux
2.6.32-25-generic, with gnome-utils version 2.30.0-0ubuntu1.
A workaround can be found at
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-utils/+question/89994 ,
i.e. simply remove the entry /var/log/btmp from the list
/apps/gnome-system-log/logfiles of the log files which are opened up at startup
of the log viewer (e.g. using gconf-editor).
I think /var/log/btmp should generally not be part of this list, neither is
/var/log/wtmp .

PS: By the way, I don't really think this is a duplicate of bug #374320,
because it is not related to permissions of /var/log/btmp.

[Bug 661860] Re: synaptic crashes in Lucid when deselecting Consider recommended packages as dependencies

2010-10-16 Thread Sebastian Meyer
I just recognized that synaptic has finished applying the new option -- after
about 30 minutes of no response (I did not kill the process because I wanted to
see if anything happens eventually). During that time synaptic occupied my CPU
by around 90%. Thus, Synaptic does not crash as mentioned in the title but
instead only has some difficulties in changing this option in acceptable time.
The changed setting still is in effect after having started a new session.
When I now re-enable this option and click ok, synaptic does again not respond
due to high CPU load. In 'top' I first observed about 50% synaptic and 40%
at-spi-registry (whatever that is) for about 10 seconds. Then, synaptic raised
to 90-95% and at-spi-registry decreased to 2% (don't know if this helps), which
is still the case (~10 minutes later)...

[Bug 195783] Re: I see only a gray Applet Box

2009-02-10 Thread Sebastian Meyer
For me the Java applet works now!
With today's update from openjdk-6-jre co. from version 6b11-2ubuntu2 to
version 6b11-2ubuntu2.1 I re-tried my Java applet (see my above post #12 for
details on my architecture) with http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
It takes 10 seconds or so until I can see the dancing Duke logo together with
the version information BUT IT'S THERE! :)
Unfortunately, I did not test the applet right before updating, thus i'm not
sure if this is the reason for the bug fix.

[Bug 195783] Re: I see only a gray Applet Box

Hi Matti,
just like Lorant I can confirm this bug using 64 bit Hardy and 64 bit Firefox 3

   $ java -version

   OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_0-b11)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_0-b11, mixed mode)

and icedtea-gcjwebplugin (1.0-0ubuntu5).

There's a grey box only, and in the status bar: starting applet
(NB: It does not make a difference whether i have the nvidia driver (from
restricted modules) activated or not. Visual effects are disabled.)

Starting Firefox from console reveals initializing JNLPRuntime... as the last
line. Then, nothing more happens.
If you need more information, please let me know.

[Bug 185311] bug also depends on filename and pwd

2008-06-27 Thread Sebastian Meyer
Wanted to comment on the fact, that ooffice opens with failure depending
on the command line argument.

The following commands work fine for me, assuming I'm in my home directory
  pwd # /home/sebastian
  soffice --anything
  touch helloworld.odt; soffice helloworld.odt
  touch hellobigbigworld.odt; soffice hellobigbigworld.odt
  touch hellobigbigbigworld.odt; soffice hellobigbigbigworld.odt

NOW, by increasing the length of the filename by 1
  touch hellobigbigbigworlds.odt; soffice hellobigbigbigworlds.odt
it does not work any longer and throws the locking assertion failure!

Also
  soffice /home/sebastian/helloworld.odt
does NOT work, NOR does
  cd /tmp
  soffice --anything
  touch helloworld.odt; soffice helloworld.odt

And this is really strange... If it works or not, not only depends on
the filename of the document (or the command line argument in general),
but also interacts with the working directory `pwd`!

Final note: I'm using ubuntu hardy with kernel release 2.6.24-19-generic
on x86_64 AMD architecture and latest updates, especially those
concerning the openoffice suite version 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu1, published on
2008-06-17. (I did not change anything in the soffice starting script.)

[Bug 198899] Re: audacious cannot read from files with certain characters in the path or filename and has a high cpu load.

2008-06-07 Thread Sebastian Meyer
I had this bug, too (using Hardy with audacious 1.5.0-2).
First, there were some files with an ampersand in their name which could not be
played, but some of them worked. Additionally, those files differed in that
audacious couldn't show the track details (right click on song - View Track
Details). Note that the ampersand symbol sometimes did not appear in the song
title in the playlist. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any pattern in the
non-working files.
So, I decided to recreate the playlist from scratch. This time I can play all
my files containing ampersands (and also after restarting audacious) and they
are shown correctly in the playlist. Nevertheless, audacious sometimes still
can't show the track details for those files (and sometimes crashes when I
repeatedly click on View Track Details...)
I am sorry for not being more precise. I can't really reproduce any behaviour.
Couldn't this problem therefore be related to the update mechanism of the
non-static playlist?

[Bug 186569] Re: cannot delete files off of an Fuse mounted NTFS partition in nautilus

2008-04-29 Thread Sebastian Meyer
I can confirm this bug. In Nautilus, any files/directories on my ntfs-3g
partition can be deleted, but they can not be moved into the trash folder. I
get the same message as John: Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete
immediately? The file [...] cannot be moved to the trash.
I am using ubuntu hardy final release 8.04 on amd64 with

...:~$ apt-cache policy libglib2.0-0

...:~$ apt-cache policy nautilus

...:~$ apt-cache policy gvfs

  Version table:
 *** 0.2.3-0ubuntu4 0

Could this problem also be related to mount options?

Thanks in advance,
   Sebastian
