I wrote a moment ago that x-terminal-emulator -e %s seems to work as a
work around. That actually brings up a blank terminal window with
nothing visible in it, that has to be manually closed.

So, some items don't have tooltips, so remove all the tooltips. I don't
accept that as sensible. Some were showing useful information. Now

IMHO it is NOT a theme problem, it's a problem with the Indicator
Applet. All the themes have too much spacing between the icons. I use
Human Clearlooks where it is particularly bad.
However, if this is a problem with the theme, how do we adjust the theme
so there is no spacing between icons?

Also still affects me. I updated to Maverick, rather than a fresh
install and this problem is still there. I've tried each theme that is
installed on my computer and the problem exists on each of them. The
extra spacing seems to vary between themes, but it is worst on Human-
Clearlooks. Guess
I can't see what's incomplete about this bug by the way.

I upgraded to Maverick, I use theme human-clearlooks. This is still a
problem to me. It is a problem whatever theme I use.
Personally, I don't see this as Opinion or Invalid. The icon
spacing is inconsistent. It looks bad. It affects lots of people.
There's a patch. It's a bug.

I know the icons will come in the same order, i.e. Rhythmbox before
Battery Power before Volume, however, the icons DO change position,
because without Rhythmbox running, Battery Power is first, Volume
second; with Rhythmbox running, Rhythmbox is first, Volume second, sound

should be close to each other not with all this extra space between.

I have the same problem in Lucid 10.04
Depending on the theme, the icons are have a padding of approximately one icon
width to two icon widths between icons.
I have tried all the themes I have installed and they all have the problem.

It would seem to me that the solution to this would be to add right
click functionality to each icon, and to have on the right click menu
the option to remove that icon from the indicator applet. Alternatively
add an option as in Windows system tray which allows you to hide the
icons that you

I try to avoid installing any KDE packages because of all the KDE
libraries that get installed with them, as my disk space is limited.

I occasionally use Evolution, I may sometimes use Empathy but my main apps are
Thunderbird and Pidgin.
Indicator applet shows that Pidgin has messages, but will offer to start
Empathy and Evolution. It will not offer to Start Thunderbird or Pidgin. I

PS I've just fired up Evolution and Empathy, and despite several minutes
of looking, and also googling about Evolution, I can't find out how to
turn off their appearance in the Indicator Applet, so I am again going
to uninstall both.
