[Bug 1315667] Re: Search makes Clementine hang

2014-05-03 Thread Zordid
Using this repository with Clementine 1.2.3 fixes the bug, so please
upgrade within Ubutun to the same version!

[Bug 1315667] Re: Search makes Clementine hang

2014-05-03 Thread Zordid
Apparently this is a debian packaging issue:
https://github.com/clementine-player/Clementine/issues/3847

But still, I file this here as it is Ubuntu for the end user that screws
things up - either go back to libsqllite 3.7 oder provide a properly
built Clementine... shouldn't be hard to fix this!

2014-05-03 Thread Zordid

[Bug 1153217] Re: [Dell XPS L702X] Standby does not work anymore - system drains battery and overheats

2013-10-28 Thread Zordid
Hello EXPIRED???

This is a VERY VERY VERY SERIOUS BUG that needs attention! You are
practically DESTROYING hardware with that!

I am sorry that I cannot help you in bisecting a kernel - this is way
beyond what I as a user can do!

So PLEASE - get serious and help me.

Ubuntu 13.10 - still same problem. Put my Dell XPS 17 into sleep and it
will drain the battery completely while fans are off and CPU gets hot as
hell.

2013-08-09 Thread Zordid
How am I going to do this?
It still means I have to probe a lot of Kernels - and I do not know how to find
out whether there's trouble unless I send my laptop to sleep and wait at least
minutes up to an hour to see whether the CPU cools down or heats up! :-(
This is so mad

2013-08-05 Thread Zordid
The most recent release that worked was 12.04.

Thanks for your explanations. I am still very confused why such a thing
with a common Core i7 processor can happen. Am I the only one that has a
Dell XPS Laptop running Ubuntu? Is that possible?

What makes this bug incomplete? Do you need more input? What could I do
to gather logs on what's going on during sleep that is no sleep anymore?

2013-08-05 Thread Zordid
I just read your Importance link and I would definitely say this is of
HIGH importance:

High: A bug which fulfills one of the following criteria:
Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users (estimated)

The impact of this is extremly severe - when I found my laptop the first
time in suspend with this bug, it was overheated - I guess one could
easily damage the hardware or even burn your house with that.

Remember: the CPU does not go to sleep, but all fans are off...

[Bug 1153217] Re: [Dell XPS L702X] Standby does not work anymore - system drains battery and overheats

2013-08-04 Thread Zordid
Christopher, this bug is STILL there! Nothing changed. I booted the
daily live current from USB, went into suspend and there it is again,
the CPU heats and heats without any fan helping to cool.

This bug is damn serious. I cannot understand why nothing happens.

Ubuntu used to work on this machine fine / unfortunately I do not know
which kernel version brought the problem - but Ubuntu is unusable and
DANGEROUS this way!

If I can do anything to help, please let me know!

Since this kernel version, my system won't go into standby correctly
  anymore!

I noticed it several times that the laptop battery on my Dell XPS 17
(L702x) with Core i7 processor was empty when I wanted to resume after
standby, but now I investigated further and noticed that the case is
EXTREMELY hot when it is in standby.

Don't know what you need to investigate this, but this has not been the case
for years now.
Maybe it is even harmful to the system, as fans are off and all, but the
processor works on and on!

[Bug 1153217] Re: Standby does not work anymore - system drains battery and overheats

2013-06-30 Thread Zordid
HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP!

This is a confirmed bug - it happens with the latest Raring, straight from the
USB drive.
You can boot the system, send it to suspend and the processor gets BURNING hot!
It sucks the battery empty, the fans don't work but the i7 CPU heats and heats
and heats!

How on earth can this bug not get HIGHEST possible attention??

I tried Kernel 3.9 - the bug is STILL in there, too!

Can ANYBODY explain to me what else I could do but try to get attention
in Launchpad?

[Bug 1152490] Re: An Online account needs attention when opening Thunderbird

2013-05-26 Thread Zordid
I am also affected. Deleted my while Thunderbird configuration, re-setup all my
accounts. It worked fine until the first restart of my system (which I have to
do because of another bug that prevents standby...).
Now, same bug again.
Always get this dialog box when opening Thunderbird.

Please get it fixed!

[Bug 1179863] [NEW] Unity Launcher loses keyboard focus when quickly typing and selecting application

2013-05-14 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

In the current Unity version of Raring, when I open the launcher (Super-
Key) and quickly type what I'm looking for (e.g. "Libr..." for Libre
Writer), as soon as I see what I'm looking for start using the cursor
keys to move there by keyboard, suddenly the keyboard focus is lost - no
movement, typing whatsoever is possible anymore.

You can simple NOT use the Launcher solely with the keyboard this way.
It is distracting and wrong. I don't even know what the focus is lost
for, meaning where it is after it happens!

[Bug 1178976] [NEW] After monitor stand-by, Displayport audio is dead until monitor is "restarted"

2013-05-11 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

This is a terrible bug:

I have my speakers attached to my monitor, so sound is played via
Displayport audio. No problem at all.

BUT: My monitor goes to sleep after 10 minutes or so. When it's woken up
again, no sound whatsoever is played back any more. Going to audio
settings still shows Displayport/HDMI audio selected.

When I switch my monitor OFF and ON again, sound is back.

[Bug 1178332] [NEW] Standby does not work anymore - system drains battery and overheats

2013-05-09 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Could somebody PLEASE take action on this terrible BUG

I filed a bug (#1153217) MONTHS ago to tell you that system standby on a
fairly standard laptop (Dell XPS 17) with Core i7 simple DOES NOT WORK
any more!!

You can initiate the standby mode, but the system stays HOT, I even suspect
overheating as the fans are completely shut off, but the processor is
apparently still running!!!
On battery it takes 2 hours or so, then it's EMPTY.

This is a MAJOR problem present for MONTHS now and makes Ubuntu
practically unusable.

While I do try to help you with that, I simply don't get Launchpad. Who
is on charge for VERY BASIC problems like this, WHO is going to take any
action and fix this

THANKS!!!

I would love to "add the tag" kernel-fixed-upstream!
BUT HOW??? How come Launchpad is so obfuscated that I cannot find such a
apparently simple thing...???

Please, add the tag kernel-fixed-upstream - in the 3.9 mainline kernel
my processor stays cool over night!

Thanks!

[Bug 1153217] [NEW] Standby does not work anymore - system drains battery and overheats

2013-03-10 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Since this kernel version, my system won't go into standby correctly
anymore!

I noticed it several times that the laptop battery on my Dell XPS 17
(L702x) with Core i7 processor was empty when I wanted to resume after
standby, but now I investigated further and noticed that the case is
EXTREMELY hot when it is in standby.

Don't know what you need to investigate this, but this has not been the case
for years now.
Maybe it is even harmful to the system, as fans are off and all, but the
processor works on and on!

Please help!!

[Bug 1096314] [NEW] Minimizing full screen Virtualbox re-draws full screen with Virtualbox image

2013-01-05 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

This is a strange bug that is present since the update of 12.10 now.

When I run Virtualbox (guest OS is Win 8, but that does not matter I
guess) and I minimize this full screen window, the Unity desktop re-
appears as expected, but only fractions of a second later, the
Virtualbox screen (my Win 8) re-appears!

It is just a grapical bug, it's just the still image that is re-
displayed full screen, if you click on any (not visible) Unity window,
the screen is correctly displayed. But if you happen to click on the
background (not a window), nothing happens, the Virtualbox Image still
covers everything.

This is really, really annoying it must be a bug in Unity.

[Bug 1024961] [NEW] Gimp causes session to close immediately

2012-07-15 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Whenever I use Gimp, with the first mouse click in the image (e.g.
selecting a region or ANYTHING else) - my Ubuntu session is immediately
killed - all windows disappear and I return to the login screen of
Ubuntu.

No matter what was running - it is closed and lost.

There are no other signs I can see, simply nothing. I have never
experienced anything like this before and I do only get this when using
Gimp, no other programs cause problems!

How can I track this down? I am using the regular Ubuntu version of Gimp
2.6 that comes from the repositories!

[Bug 993013] [NEW] Dashboard-Tooltip hides input in Ubuntu search lens

2012-05-01 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

When you click on the Ubuntu logo to open the lens and want to start
typing a search string, the (in German) tooltip saying "Dash-Startseite"
still stays on screen.

Thus, you cannot see what you type! The only workaround is to click the
Ubuntu logo, move away the mouse pointer and then start typing what you
look for...

This is really distracting. In other software, tooltips automatically
disappear when a user starts typing!

Please fix this...

[Bug 993011] [NEW] Unity captures keypress even within VirtualBox although it shouldn't

2012-05-01 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

When within a virtual box, all keypresses belong to the virtual machine.
To gain access to the host OS, you normally have to press the defined
Host-key in virtual box.

E.g. if you switch windows within a virtual Windows OS inside Virtual
box, your Alt-Tab directly goes to Windows.

Now, with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS a single keypress which also MUST stay
within VirtualBox instead opens the lenses menu search function.

It shouldn't. It's massive distractive and not the expected behavior.

[Bug 992416] Re: Launcher and menu bar are distorted even after screen blank (timeout)

2012-05-01 Thread Zordid
Here is a screenshot taken with a camera - I did not manage to capture
this digitally as it disappears when you click in the launcher...

This picture shows only the launcher - but the title bar is distorted
exactly like this until you click in it and in the clock area.

How can I switch to the other Nvidea drivers? Never heard of them
either!!

[Bug 992403] Re: Shotwell does not appear in Launcher as running nor in Alt-Tab sequence

2012-05-01 Thread Zordid
Yes! That's it!
After I started a new session, it works - in the launcher as well as in the
Alt-Tab sequence!

So it is the same issue and not associated with Shotwell, I suppose, but
rather with pinning something to the launcher!

[Bug 992416] [NEW] Launcher and menu bar are distorted even after screen blank (timeout)

2012-04-30 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 11.10 and before, I often had distorted Unity launcher and
title/menu bar after a suspend/resume cycle - but now, with Ubuntu 12.04
LTS, this happens even when the screen blanks because of timeout and I
wake it up again.

My screen saver is set to just switch of the screens after 10 minutes.

When I move the mouse or touch a key, they switch on again - but both
Unity launcher AND title/menu bar show distortion in the form of blocks.
Hard to describe and I am NOT able to take a screenshot of this as while
trying to do so, apparently they get a refresh.

Another way to get a refresh is to move the mouse into the launcher or
click the title bar, sometimes I also have to click e.g. the calendar
indicator to make it refresh.

There seems to be one automatic refresh missing after screens go on
again!

[Bug 992403] [NEW] Shotwell does not appear in Launcher as running nor in Alt-Tab sequence

2012-04-30 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Right after upgrade to 12.04 LTS I notice that Shotwell, when started, does NOT
appear in the launcher bar at all. I was surprised, cause I had just started it
- right after it was up and running, its icon disappears in the bar.
Next time I started it, during the time the application started, I pinned
Shotwell to the Unity launcher. But then you notice that while it is running,
the icon is not decorated with a * to indicate a running application.

Further more: while it is running, it cannot be seen in the Alt-Tab
sequence at all. It acts like not there, not running.

This happened directly after upgrading to 12.04 and was not there in
11.10!

[Bug 948214] [NEW] Clicking breadcrumb does not select panel in Nautilus

2012-03-06 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

This is a real show-stopper for using more than one panel.

When showing an additional view on a directory using the F3
functionality "additional panel" (don't know the English translation for
it, in German: "zusätzliche Leiste") you see two different locations
side-by-side. This is nice and really handy.

What really is inconsistent: to switch between them you have to click inside
the main area, clicking on the breadcrumb above each panel does not switch the
focus at all, the click is ignored completely!
I would definitely expect this to work as I always fall for that, wanting to
switch directories in one panel by clicking on its bread crumb - with no
effect. I need to click inside the main area first and then again, second
click, in the bread crumb.

Pleaase change this

Thanks!

I don't know what else to do! If Unity crashes and my open windows stay
there undecorated - nothing else works. I cannot get a Terminal with
Ctrl-Alt-T as Unity is not running anymore, I cannot get to a terminal

[Bug 892828] [NEW] Shutdown of Ubuntu makes Firefox start again in restore mode

2011-11-20 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Whenever I shutdown (or restart) Ubuntu and I got Firefox open, the next
time I start it again, it displays its "restore" screen and says "This
should not have happened...".

I guess Ubuntu does not shutdown running applications properly!
Said, cause I have to remember to exit Firefox before shutting down the system!

[Bug 892462] [NEW] After unity --reset, top panel is only shown on right monitor

2011-11-19 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Unfortunately, every once in a while I still need to restart Unity - just now
because I played with a setting (Window preview in Launcher) in Compiz and
disabled it again.
In a situation where all window decorations, the Launcher, the top panel, etc.
disappear I need to do "unity --reset" to get back...

BUT: after that, on my two-monitor-setup, the top panel clock, volume,
calendar, system menu - they all appear ONLY on the right monitor, not
on both as it does after a clean start of the system!

How can I get that back to work - apart from a clean boot?

[Bug 892463] [NEW] Empathy displays "Facebook needs password" notification even though it has password

2011-11-19 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

[Bug 875841] Re: Brasero cannot burn CD anymore - empty disc is shown with 5.8MB free space

2011-11-15 Thread Zordid
Hey folks - why does nothing happen here

I just wanted to burn a DVD-R - no luck. Says it's got 1,9GB of free
space instead of around 4 GB! Plus: I cannot select the media, and if I
do Brasero immediately crashes!

What is this bug about? Hardware incompatibility?

PLEASE HELP!

[Bug 873545] Re: After update Nautilus icons are black/white, no decorations of breadcrumb etc.

2011-11-05 Thread Zordid
The problem with the undecorated elements happened again - in my case
when I start Ubuntu.

nautilius -q
and restarting it with
nautilus

seems to "fix" it. At least that's quicker than a new restart... :-(
Any chance this bug is fixed soon??

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-11-04 Thread Zordid
Thanks Daniel - will try that.
But since this fix was not there at the time of release, I rearranged my whole
set up - moved the laptop to the right of my main monitor so the launcher will
be in front of me... :-(

Now: I got a new problem, also associated with the honoring of the
primary monitor setting: the pop-up notifications unity displays are
always on the right edge of the VIRTUAL, the complete desktop. But that
is far, far away from where I notice it! So: it is more or less useless!

My wish: the primary monitor as set in NVIDEA X Server Settings must:
a) display the launcher
b) display the notifications

Is that possible? Where should I file this bug??? Could you also fix
that?

[Bug 883285] [NEW] Trashcan right-click menu in Launcher broken - empty bin not selectable

2011-10-28 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

When I right-click on a filled trashcan in the Launcher, the menu entry
"Empty trashcan..." appears, but it cannot be selected at all. I tried
left AND right-click, but no matter what I do, it's impossible to start
the command. This is the only menu entry I got and it is not even
highlighted like in other Launcher context-menus!

Other icons in the menu like Nautilus' menu work just fine!

[Bug 869196] Re: unity panel menus don't stay open when clicked on second monitor

2011-10-25 Thread Zordid
I was the original writer of bug #873562 - my bug was marked as a
duplicate of this bug.

BUT: it's not always the second monitor! I cannot tell you how it
happens, but sometimes it affects my main monitor while my secondary
monitor is keeping the menu!

So: this bug's description is not quite correct.

Please fix this - it is definitely a regression! 11.04 was not affected!

[Bug 876844] [NEW] Ubuntu Notification Popups appear on secondary monitor in Nvidea Twinview, not on primary

2011-10-17 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

I got NVidea's twinview enabled with two monitors - one in front of me (main)
and one to the left (secondary, NOT main!).
[Because of enough trouble with the launcher bar on the leftmost edge of the
virtual desktop of 2 times HDTV...]

Now, notification popups like new mail, connection established, whatever
- they all appear on the SECONDARY monitor far, far to my right where a
notfication does not make ANY sense! I don't see it pop-up there!

Either it should be displayed on BOTH monitors or the MAIN monitor setting must
be followed and popups be displayed there!
It's really unusable this way. I wonder: does no developer of Ubuntu ever use a
two-monitor-setup

[Bug 875833] Re: Unity launcher lens has inconsistent keyboard response

2011-10-16 Thread Zordid
Ubuntu Oneiric, 64bit!

** Description changed:

When I use the launcher lens (the menu, you know what I mean...) to
start a program I usually type until the desired program appears in the
list of matches - and because I am a "keyboard guy", I stay there and
want to use the cursor keys to quickly hit Enter on the already
  displayed match.

But that does not work properly!

In my attached example, I type "virtu" because I want to start VirtualBox.
It's the only match, it's displayed very quickly and from a UI standpoint I
know instinctively hit the Down arrow key to get to that match.
But that does not work!!! Somehow the focus it now somewhere "in the middle",
unseen, undisplayed and completely useless. I suspect the category,
"Anwendungen" in my case, now has the keyboard focus, but that's completely
nonsense! You can't do anything there!

Thus, you need to hit Down a second time to get to the VirtualBox
  program icon!

WHY??? Where's the usability? Even if I got several matches, that makes no
sense at all.
  1) because you can't SEE the focus -> VERY bad!
  2) because you can't DO anything with that focus!!

PLEASE fix this issue, it's driving me crazy!!! (have a look at MacOS to
  see good usability... ;-))

Why does apport-bug start Chrome then??? How could I find out why and
stop it from doing that?

[Bug 875789] [NEW] Epson USB printer not detected

2011-10-16 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

In Natty I never had any problems with my Epson Stylus USB printer - was
detected and correctly used from day 1.
With Oneiric it's "gone". lsusb shows it:

Bus 003 Device 008: ID 04b8:0803 Seiko Epson Corp. Printer (Composite
Device)

But in the printer dialog, nothing happens - adding a printer does not show the
detected ones.
This s*!

[Bug 873599] Re: Unity panel disappeared - trying to reset delivers compiz error

2011-10-16 Thread Zordid
Well, I got Nvidea, so ATI/AMD cannot be the root of the problem!! :-(
VERY frustrated here!

2011-10-15 Thread Zordid
Even after a completely new install of Ubuntu 11.10 and a handfull of
restarts of the system this bug comes again!

All my icons in Nautilus are gone - no nice UI anymore.

What is going on here?

** Summary changed:

- After update Nautilus icons are black/white and not "normal"
+ After update Nautilus icons are black/white, no decorations of breadcrumb etc.

[Bug 874968] Re: Thunderbird cannot store settings

2011-10-15 Thread Zordid
@Omer: how is that done best? I have a backup of my user's home - but if
I restore that 100%, wouldn't I get all the potentially "bad" settings
back?? What do you recommend?

[Bug 874968] Re: Thunderbird cannot store settings

2011-10-15 Thread Zordid
Would be nice if somebody who understands the matter would MOVE the bug report
instead of kicking it out.
After all Ubuntu wants to be user friendly, or am I wrong?
Thanks a lot!

[Bug 874968] [NEW] Thunderbird cannot store settings

2011-10-15 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

When I try to set up my E-Mail with thunderbird, I get this:

Der Konfigurationsserver konnte nicht kontaktiert werden: D-BUS-Fehler:
Method "Set" with signature "s(is)" on interface
"org.gnome.GConf.Database" doesn't exist

What's wrong there? Sorry, I don't know where to put all the bugs I
encounter with Oneiric. Never had so much trouble with a new Ubuntu...
:-(

[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-10-13 Thread Zordid
I cannot find any monitors.xml file - neither in my Ubuntu 11.04 set up
nor in my 11.10!

How can I set the screen the launcher should be on?

I find the whole discussion here so ridiculous! Since Windows 95 you can
drag Windows' task bar where ever you like - why can't this be done in a
2011 Ubuntu?

Arghhh!
