Same bug here. Presist in 12.10. I cannot install 12.10 because of this
bug. When I do install and run update, the system has the exact
behaviors described above. Running an Nvidia 560Ti Graphics card with
current dricers. Doing the fix for nvidia proposed in other bugs and
threads doe not resolve

I updated my laptop to ubuntu 12.10 beta 2 to take it for a test drive.
When I try to mount my android phone to manage my music and pictures the
phone is not detected by the system and does not mount. This action was

I have this bug too. I have seen multiple related problems with Core i-7
processors on x-58 MoBos with newer Nvidia cards, posted in other bugs

Also, I just tried restarting gnome settings daemon and it gave the same
error, but did not change anything on reboot. I tried running it with
sudo, and my desktop theme changed instantly, so maybe try sudo instead

except mine only occur when my nvidia driver is enabled. I noticed you

noticed that I am not displaying my panels with the correct theme. My

mstt fonts and mathematica fonts. During installation, synaptic froze
and I had to hard reboot. Now the fonts work and themes are rendering

I think this is related to Pulse as sound is not present every time and
pulse can't see my sound card. Sometimes when I shut down my computer
and start it again later lucid boots with no sound and no volume

Installed Karmic RC with full updates and attempted to make a USB boot
disk for my netbook. I tried both aUSB key and SD card. Both failed to
format. The on e that did format had a warning sign next to the partion
it created that said I needed to format again. I tried using the new
disk utility to

@All- Sefan's suggestion in bug 442463 worked and this bug while not
being exactly the same responds to the same fix and subtle differences
may be related to differences in sound card circuitry. Can post Sefan's
solution as a fix for this from Bug
Strike that. The hack causes fatal error on reboot when the system
attempts to load X-server the screen begins flickering and issuing a
permissions error and continues flickering until reset button is hit on
the machine. I can no longer boot into my Karmic partition and cannot
access the data on
Yep me too. After install I'm having the same problem with multiple
applications. I tried setting the root password using $sudo su passwd$ and
also tried setting it in the user dialog. It still doesn't work. Your hack
works, but I agree something is wrong with the user privilage settings.

That worked, thank you. For some reason it didn't click over to the
configuration for the MP3+ mic input and defaulted to RCA instead. You
can mark this one as solved.

Christen Niemeyer - It's similar but coming from my sound card and not
the mother board speaker. I have a similar sound card to the person in
this other bug so it may be specific to that chipset as the pulse
shipped with Karmic beta is working fine in the other two computers I've
booted it on.
I'm getting it at every boot after install now.
