anonymous mouse, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make
Ubuntu better. Does this issue occur for you in LibreOffice? If so,
could you please create an additional crash bug report so we can link it

[Bug 769709] [NEW] Time Warner Cable Mobile Internet 3G/4G Franklin CMU-300 USB Adapter not working

2011-04-23 Thread rusivi2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10

2) apt-cache policy network-manager
network-manager:
  Installed: 0.8.1+git.20100810t184654.ab580f4-0ubuntu2.1
  Candidate: 0.8.1+git.20100810t184654.ab580f4-0ubuntu2.1

3) What is expected to happen is when one plugs the USB adapter in:

+ Secondary click Network Manager icon
+ click Edit Connections...
+ Mobile Broadband tab
+ Add
+ Forward button
+ Highlight United States
+ Forward button
+ I can't find my provider in the list and I wish to enter it manually: radio
button
+ Provider: Time Warner Cable
+ My provider uses CDMA technology (1xRTT,EVDO) drop down
+ Forward button
+ Apply button

It would either begin to connect automatically to the 3G or 4G network,
or:

+ click the Network Manager icon
+ Time Warner Cable then it would connect.

4) What happens instead is neither occurs. Information about this device may be
found at:

Jon Dowland, you can test a newer version in Maverick by using the
VirtualBox PPA from the command line:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:debfx/virtualbox

If present, please click on the current status, under the Status column,
and change the Status back to New.

[Bug 123441] Re: Scanner CanoScan 8600F not detected

2011-04-11 Thread rusivi2
Raphael Finkel, does the modified steps found in the original post below
work for you?

1) You need some usb libraries, so, in a terminal type:

sudo apt-get install libusb-dev build-essential

2) To get the sane backends from git you need git-core. If you don't
already have it, type this (also in a terminal):

sudo apt-get install git-core

3) Now use the git that was just installed to get the sane backends
using the following command:

git clone git://git.debian.org/sane/sane-backends.git

That downloads the backends and puts them in a folder called sane-
backends in your home folder.

4) Change directory into the new sane-backends folder and compile them:

cd sane-backends

./configure –prefix=/usr –sysconfdir=/etc –localstatedir=/var

make --- this one takes a while

sudo make install

Now everything is installed, but you still won't be able to scan (except
as root) until you set up some permissions.

5) You need to edit a file, but you need to be root to edit it, so:

sudo gedit /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules

and add the following 2 lines:

# Canon CanoScan
ATTRS{idVendor}==04a9, ATTRS{idProduct}==2229, ENV{libsane_matched}=yes

save the file, exit gedit, exit terminal, reboot, and...

[Bug 160621] Re: running hddtemp causes unnecessary disk activity

2011-04-11 Thread rusivi2
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: hddtemp

running httdtemp normally or as a daemon causes unnecessary disk
activity. It is important for laptop users to reduce unnecessary disk-
activity because the harddrive head might be parked or the drive might
  be spun down.

IMHO hddtemp should not need to access the harddisk after starting up
  unless configured for logging.

Do you know exactly how wine goes about executing the .exe file?

No, but if you have a more specific question, a better answer may be
produced.

Could you provide the output of starting the program through strace?

See attached strace.log.bz2 performed at the Terminal:

sudo setcap cap_net_bind_service=+ep /usr/bin/wine strace -o

[Bug 474555] Re: Double-Declining depreciation to enter missing box salvage value

2011-01-18 Thread rusivi2
Pandemonium, if your directing your comment to me, I do not work for
Canonical, I am a volunteer! Despite this, bugging is a two way street,
not, Set it and forget it. If one creates a bug, they should be
prepared to be held accountable to working it out together. If one does
not want this, they should be prepared to not have their bug addressed
in a timely manner, let alone fixed unless it is a critical bug, which
this is not due to alternative packages providing the feature bugged
about. :D Marking incomplete until remote bug is created and linked.

As well, an exploration regarding kernel patching for (secure?!) port

2010-12-28 Thread rusivi2
Cesare Mastroianni, thank you for working on this bug and making Ubuntu
better. In order to test this issue in Maverick, one may do so via a
Live CD environment - http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.10/ and/or in a
VirtualBox VM environment ( apt-get install virtualbox-ose or
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads ). In the future, please
follow the debugging procedures found at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures Once Maverick has been
tested this bug's Status should be marked New. While your complaint
about this bug's management is duly noted, the logic you can't test
Maverick because you did not install it does not hold water here. ;)

In Maverick, downloaded newest WINE 1.3.4 as per
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb - downloaded iTunes 7.7.1.11 via
http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=33 - installed iTunes,
went to iTunes Store and subscribed to a podcast, after first successful
download distnoted.exe crash GUI prompt popped up once. Subscribed to
another podcast, no further distnoted.exe crashing. No noticeable GUI
degradation. Seems fixed via newest WINE.

[Bug 73321] Re: Idle timeout does not deal with simultanious logins

2010-09-29 Thread rusivi2
Thank you for reporting this bug. This bug is confirmed in Maverick
Meerkat. My User 1 is the first profile created when installing Maverick
native. In User 1 primary click System - Preferences - Power
Management - one may place the screen brightness as far down as
possible. Then I created a User 2, locked screen of User 1, switched to
User 2, default brightness was 100%, locked screen of User 2, went back
to User 1, screen is at full brightness and cannot be changed despite
User 1 prior preferences.
