to begin work, I'm going to mark it as Triaged and let them handle it
from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

I confirm here on a up-to-date Natty that it is possible to insert text
in a read-only Impress file.
1) open read-only Impress file
2) select text in an other application (e.g. terminal)
3) middle click in Impress (as many times as I want) → text is inserted
(several times) but it is not possible
michwill, I have tried copying and pasting information from Firefox into
example4.odp via a 2 button laptop touchpad with no success. This seems
to be caused by the simple act of middle clicking your 3 button mouse.
Since you originally reported this issue in i386 environment, then
reproduced in 64
Following the described steps and example4.odt I've reproduced that. You
need to select any text (say, in your browser) and middle click in that
presentation. I attach the screenshot

I confirm that bug for LibreOffice Impress 3.3.1. It could be any
readonly file: just create an empty presentation with LO impress, save
as a file, change its attributes to readonly, open and try to insert
something there using middle mouse click
