I plugged my hard drive to another computer with 6GB RAM (instead of
640MB) and was not able to reproduce this bug at all neither with my
usual methods nor with hang.py. I can always easilly reproduce the bug
on 640MB machine in a few seconds.

I can also confirm that this bug is not reproducible on 2.6.28 and
2.6.29-rc1 vanilla kernels.
It means that this problem occured because of Ubuntu kernel patches and
that's why Theodore was not able to reproduce it on his Intrepid machine

KDE S.C. Lithuanian translation now use:
Plural-Forms: nplurals=4; plural=(n==1 ? 0 : n%10==1 n%100!=11 ? 1 : n%
10=2 (n%10010 || n%100=20) ? 2 : 3);\n
instead of
Plural-Forms: nplurals=3; plural=(n%10==1 n%100!=11 ? 0 : n%10=2 (n%
10010 ||
Since it's not possible to provide different variations for the same
language in Launchpad, then perhaps one of these would be possible:
a) strip the first form when importing Lithuanian KDE translation into
launchpad (thus effectively degrading it to 3 plural forms)?

How come? The first form targets cases where n==1, meanwhile the second
form targets n==21, n==31 etc., but still works fine with n==1.
There are some strings where either of these choices would be bad. That's
why I support option (b) if it is feasible.

Does it often happen that .desktop files contain plural forms? I should
check...
.desktop files never have plural forms. So this is not a blocker, just an
additional thing to consider.

No, only the header of .mo files is good, the files itself are broken.

I have been using gnash 0.8.8 since it appeared in Debian (I've rebuilt
it on my own Kubuntu 10.10 machine) and I did not notice any regressions
