several machine all of which can mount shares served by an old version
of debian -- actually Libranet ... google that one to see how old the
distribution is!

There is no other solution that I know of. If you are running Hardy on
an i386 you can use the .deb that I created. If it is for some other
system you'll need to change the code. It takes a little bit of time,
but is perfectly straightforward.

I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 this morning and the problem remains. I tried
reinstalling the foomatic-rip from bug 287240, and it made no
difference. One additional thing I noticed this time is that the
printer starts printing as soon as the 'Data' light starts flashing.

issues. So far there are no issues with 8.10. I have it installed on 4
machines. 3 are rather new and one is an old P-II, 400.

I have attached my xorg.conf file however it is all set as the defaults
after I enabled twinview.
The maximum resolution I am offered is: 1360x768
If I alter the metamodes line in the xorg.conf file it disables my

I also have this problem on Intrepid. The flash works when I restart
the app, but the whole reason to hibernate is not having to restart
apps.

I am a newbie, my first post. Been reading many posts and bug threads
trying to understand what to do next.
Similar symptoms as posted by BigAl (2009-04-12), except I get through
the boot OK, the wireless connects OK, and then after some seconds locks
up the systems requiring a key-press hard

Ubuntu 10.10 still will not play a DVD Movie or store bought CD of songs
without Freezing the system.
With Ubuntu 8.10 using VirtualBox with CD passthrough Ubuntu 10.10 works. But
installed on my HD Ubuntu 10.10 freezes. Bummer. :-(

Opened config editor, but every time i ticked the trash_icon_visible
box desktop items vanished and file manager opened repeatedly, crashing
system. Untick box everything goes back to normal.

recordmydesktop has an excellent reputation. It's just broken on
Ubuntu, apparently.
Please let me know if I can help. I have a thinkpad w500 with 4GB of
RAM, so resources are not at issue here.
