[Bug 1174374] Re: libreoffice-calc crashes/hangs desktop on Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 when opening a .xlsx file

2014-01-13 Thread Simon Tremblay
Hello,

I will try to update my Intel drivers too (if it's possible) and keep
you update.

Currently I have a similar bug (similar crash in pixman_region_copy)
that crashes Xorg.

Ubuntu version: 13.10

uname -a : Linux m193535 3.11.0-15-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec 9
18:17:04 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Video card:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor
Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Dell Device 058b
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 42
Memory at d000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
Memory at c000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
I/O ports at 2000 [size=64]
Expansion ROM at unassigned [disabled]
Capabilities: [90] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit-
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [a4] PCI Advanced Features
Kernel driver in use: i915

Note: It does the same problem with .xls file too. And I had same random
issues (with same crash in pixman) opening odt file in Writer...

2013-11-13 Thread Michael Jastram
@Bryan

In that case; did you try my instructions

Actually, really strange, the bug just disappeared. Even with the Intel
graphics, I cannot crash X11 any more. Therefore, I cannot try that fix
any more, either.

I didn't even change anything, but here is what may have fixed the
problem: My machine (Lenovo W500) has two graphics cards, Intel and ATI.
I usually use Intel. To troubleshoot this issue, I changed to ATI (via
BIOS). After changing back to Intel, the bug was gone from my system.

I don't think the reboot did it, as I rebooted before, which didn't fix
the problem. Maybe by booting with ATI, some X11 configuration files
were changed, that for whatever reason prevented this bug from
materializing, even after switching back to Intel.

Anyway, thanks for looking into this, and for giving such a prompt
reply.

[Bug 1174374] Re: libreoffice-calc crashes/hangs desktop on Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 when opening a .xlsx file

2013-05-25 Thread Andrew Krohn
Funny, when I upgraded to 13.04 initially, I did so mainly because I
wanted libre 4. I did the upgrade from an existing 12.10 install and
was loving libre 4. But I wasn't sure tlp was giving me the same
temperature control that jupiter used to (running a netbook with passive
cooling), so I did a clean install of 12.10 (removing libre 3.6 and
installing libre 4) and now I am having libre issues. I can open libre,
but when I try to go to a menu (say, to save something or to go to tools
in order to try turning off hardware acceleration), the menu appears,
but contains no text, and eventually libre just crashes. Contemplating
a clean install of 13.04 to see if the issue goes away since I am pretty
sure I was getting better performance and cooling than in 12.10 with
jupiter.

[Bug 1174374] Re: libreoffice-calc crashes/hangs desktop on Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04 when opening a .xlsx file

2013-04-30 Thread Bryan Quigley
Assuming you have no important settings in LibreOffice I would suggest
removing the previous configuration:

1. Close all LibreOffice programs (if open)
2. Open a terminal
3. Run rm .config/libreoffice -r

Can you open it after doing this?

After trying your suggestion, I had to cycle power to reboot (no other way
to get control).

I opened a .docx file and then a .xlsx file. The screen flashed several
times, displayed the documents and then went dark and unresponsive.

2013-04-30 Thread Bob Morain
By the way, this was on a recently booted system with very few packages
installed after installation. Personal files are on a separate disk, not
mounted as /home.

LibreOffice has failed liked this since 12.10. I can open from launch bar
and create small files, but opening existing files most often causes system
failure. I have to resort to Windows to work on business files. :-(

The open source driver is even worse. Fonts appear corrupted, the screen
is unstable, images jump around, unintelligible patterns overlay meaningful
windows,...

The Nvidia 304 drivers are most stable, but not perfect.

Turning off hardware acceleration seems to have made LibreOffice more
stable. Not sure, since I have only opened a few files, but it seems to be
working.

The webgl-conformance-tests.html page did indeed crash Firefox, after
reporting some failed tests.

Thanks,
