I agree to Daniel here, there's no need to artificially prolong the
waiting time; if the dialog disappears so fast that the user cannot read
it, there's nothing for him to worry about anyway. However, it does look
confusing.
I have a rough idea about how to make it only appear if writing back the
technically this is true, freeware is software that is no cost. But it
implies to most people that it is proprietary freeware. And not free
software, or open source. The program is GPLv2 seems like it
would confuse people to call it freeware. o well;

I agree. A black background is IMHO more aesthetic, and eliminates the
shrinking or bad resolution issues (like bug #60621 and its duplicates).

version, as fixes on the USB backend were done.

I didn't do that before now, if it needs to be done on install the
package should do it though.
I just did it and now I don't get the messages when I boot, but there
are still no entries in /dev/mapper when I boot and if I run sudo dmraid
-ay when I'm running the entries come up in /dev/mapper.

I used to have blank consoles too with nvdia driver in previous ubuntu
versions.
On edgy with nvidia drivers 8774 it all works fine.
