Title:
  midi high latency delay

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
In rosegarden (Jack & timidity) I have a bad delay of about 200ms when I
press a Key till it sounds through my speakers. I use a YMF-Soundcard with a
Yamaha-XG-Wavetable on it. If I use my Keyboard in LMMS the sounds appear just
in time. So I knew that it is a problem with the Midi-Out-Device.
As workaround I installed timidity++ additional to the existing one and
loaded a GM-soundfont into it. Ans surprise: It works!?! So, there is something
wrong with the standard-configuration of the midi-out-device in ubuntu-Studio
8.04.

Some other guys have the same problem too:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=891678
  http://www.nabble.com/MIDI-latency-in-Ubuntu-8.04-td19118784.html

  I used this HowTo:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Midi/SoftwareSynthesisHowTo?action=show=MidiSoftwareSynthesisHowTo

  My timidity.cfg:
  # Instrument configuration file for timidity
  # $Id: timidity.cfg,v 1.7 2005/09/03 19:26:03 hmh Exp $

  # You can change just about every option in TiMidity++ using
  # This config file. Please refer to the timidity.cfg(5) manpage
  # for more details

  ## If you have a slow CPU, uncomment these:
  #opt EFresamp=d #disable resampling
  #opt EFvlpf=d #disable VLPF
  #opt EFreverb=d #disable reverb
  #opt EFchorus=d #disable chorus
  #opt EFdelay=d #disable delay
  #opt anti-alias=d #disable sample anti-aliasing
#opt EWPVSETOZ #disable all Midi Controls
  #opt p32a #default to 32 voices with auto reduction
  #opt s32kHz #default sample frequency to 32kHz
  #opt fast-decay #fast decay notes

  ## If you have a moderate CPU, try these:
  opt EFresamp=l
  opt EFreverb=g,42
  opt EFchorus=s
  opt s32kHz
  opt p64a

  # Disabling some of the Midi Controls can help with the CPU usage a lot.
  # The same goes to the VLPF, sample anti-aliasing and effects such as
  # reverb and chorus

  # By default, try to use the instrument patches from freepats:

  source /etc/timidity/eawpatches.cfg

Bug description:
New package for Ubuntu, specifically, Ubuntu Studio, to replace jack-
rack in functionality and provide even more functionality. This
package has been a long-requested feature that we believe fits
perfectly into the Ubuntu Studio ecosystem.

All code is in the lp:carla git repo. We have been testing it using our
autobuild ppa:
  ppa:ubuntustudio-dev/autobuilds
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-dev/+archive/ubuntu/autobuild)

We plan to upload to Debian after the Buster freeze, but would like
Carla to be part of Disco. The package is an application and should
not interfere with anything else. We would appreciate an
acknowledgement from the release team ASAP, as we need sponsorship to
  get it uploaded.

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1817264] Re: Upload Carla as a replacement for jackrack

2019-02-22 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
A little change in plans. len-ovenwerks and I discovered that, as it
turns out, Patchage is still in active development despite not having a

Either way, Carla is a more intuitive and technologically plugin host

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1817264] Re: Upload Carla as a replacement for jack-rack

2019-02-22 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Just one thing to add: The version I packaged is 1.9.13 (2.0-RC3).
falktx hopes to get 2.0-RC4 soon, and has given himself a rough deadline
for a 2.0 release for the end of March. Depending on the timing, it
would be good to get 2.0 (final) in for either an FFe or SRU, depending
on the timing.

[needs-packaging] ac3JACK - audio streamer to SPDIF output using AC3
  on JACK audio

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Won't Fix
Status in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  URL:
  http://essej.net/ac3jack/

  Description:
AC3Jack is a tool for creating an AC-3 (Dolby Digital) multichannel stream
from its JACK input ports. Using this tool, an AC-3 stream (up to 5.1 channels)
is created in real time and either written to a file or streamed to a SPDIF
output.

If the SPDIF port on your audio interface for connection to a
multichannel surround receiver, you can achieve full 5.1 surround
mixing and monitoring of your JACK applications with a single digital
cable, and no need for hardware supporting discrete outputs and
  inputs.

AC-3 is a compressed audio stream, so quality will suffer somewhat,
but it is the price you pay for easy surround sound. The AC-3 encoder
used here comes from the Aften project and although the sound quality
seems good, I haven't seen any direct quality comparisons with
  commercial encoders.

Now has a GUI for the main functions.

Title:
[needs-packaging] AvsFilter -- video filter to avdemux2 for running
  avisynth scripts

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Won't Fix
Status in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
External video filter for avidemux2. Is used for load avisynth script
as native avidemux2 video filter. Filter supports external binary
Windows dll in avisynth script (thanks wine), several AvsFilter
instance with different avisynth script and many other features.

  Homepage: http://avsfilter.berlios.de/
  License: GPL2+

AvsFilter will not be easy to package, it has dependencies on wine and
requires AviSynth to be installed in the users wineprefix to work. It
also need to install a few files in the wineprefix itself.

Compiling this from source seems to require a Microsoft Visual C
toolchain. It may be possible to port the build system to compile with
  mingw32 cross compiler or winebuild.

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 510889] Re: Alsa No firmware for EMU card

2019-03-04 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
I'm pretty confident while this package could benefit the Ubuntu Studio
project, this needs to be talked about upstream with the Alsa folks. 9
year-old bug with no activity since 2015, so I'm unsure of the status.
Marking as "Won't Fix" with Ubuntu Studio simply because this is
something that needs to be taken upstream.

being the -rt. All the files seemed to be in the right place. The -19

I do not have this problem with my amd64 ubuntustudio on the same machine on
a different hard drive, the -19 and -20rt and generic kernels cause no errors
from that grub and boot normally.

I have separate grubs for each hard drive and the drives are correctly

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 235493] Re: Uninstalling ubuntustudio-menu does not restore original .menu file

Fairly certain this 10-year-old bug is fixed considering -menu doesn't
overwrite any files and apt is very good about removing the higher-
priority files for xdg menus that are contained within -menu.

Bug description:
Celtx is a film/tv production tool that includes basic scriptwriting
software. It's based on the mozilla codebase, and I believe is mostly written
in javascript. It's license is an MPL Derivative. There is already a debian
rfp: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=409048
  http://www.celtx.com/

Earlier sources can be found on mozdev, but since it's mostly
javascript, the source and the binary should be the same.

  Description added from #249715

  Description:
Celtx is the world's first all-in-one media pre-production software. It has
everything you need to take your story from concept to production. Celtx
replaces 'paper, pen & binder' pre-production with a digital approach that's
more complete, simpler to work with, and easier to share.

  Multi-Media Friendly
Celtx helps you pre-produce all types of media - film, video, documentary,
theater, machinima, comics, advertising, gaming, music video, radio, podcasts,
videocasts, and however else you choose to tell your story.

  All-In-One
Unlike scriptwriting software, you can use Celtx for the entire
pre-production process - write scripts, storyboard scenes and sequences,
develop characters, breakdown & tag elements, schedule production, and prepare
detailed and informative production reports for cast and crew.

  Fully Integrated
Celtx is designed to help your entire production team work together on a
single, easy to share project file - eliminating the confusion of multiple
project files, and the need for 'paper and binder'.

  World Community of Media Creators
More than 250,000 media creators in 160 countries create with Celtx in over
20 different languages. Celtx is used by independent filmmakers and studio
professionals, and by students in over 1,400 universities and film schools -
many that have adopted Celtx for teaching and class work submission.

  Non-Linear Project Development
Unlike scriptwriting software, Celtx puts a choice of fully integrated
development tools right at your fingertips, giving you total flexibility to
determine how your story takes shape.

  License:
Celtx is distributed under an open source license, so you can download it,
use it, and distribute it for free.
Celtx uses the CePL, which is a derivative of Netscape's Mozilla Public
License (MPL).

AvsFilter will not be easy to package, it has dependencies on wine and
requires AviSynth to be installed in the users wineprefix to work. It
also need to install a few files in the wineprefix itself.

Compiling this from source seems to require a Microsoft Visual C

  mingw32 cross compiler or winebuild.

NOT appear in the recipient's email -- they do not appear even if i

corrected file evolution-rss-0.1.4 (which i did NOT try, inasmuch as
it's not a deb package and i don't wanna bother looking up what to do

They are working on a Deb fix, but perhaps this plugin should not be

cd /lib is okay, next : cd modules - first problems but not at every trial -
sometimes it is working at the first time, the next time it may be, I can try
it 2 or 10 times with NO success
the same with step 3 - cd 2.6.35.24-generic. after arriving the directory and
do a "modprobe modules.dep" i see the message " no file or directory !

I was trying with all the possibilities of variation.

BUT a vi /lib/modules/2.6.35.24-generic/modules.dep is working why this

This fools one into believing that this Folder can be used.

If I store an Open Office File there, then O/O seems to be OK with
it - but the machine crashes heavily sometime later (auto save
  is on).

After the crash, I find out the hardway that the file is lost
("File Cannot Be recovered" error arises upon request for
  File Recovery).

If I try to reopen the file it says the "File cannot be found",
despite the numerous apparently successful saves, before
  the Crash occurred.

This can be avoided, but it shows that there
is a File Integrity problem going on.

  Thanks

Bug description:
I noticed that the default theme of ubuntu studio 10.10 is very slow
on a Toshiba Portégé R500 laptop (GMA945 video, no desktop effects, 64
bit install). I noticed this while watching the updater app while
moving the popup window with the progress info. For some reason it is
very strong for this one application. Instead of lossing too many
words, I will attach two screenshots. Both are taken short after
moving the popup window, causing redraw of the window now being
exposed. The default theme shows serious lag there, while the
Clearlooks theme is not that slow (you don't see anything out of the
  ordinary on that screenshot).

Anyhow, I think I should mention this ... as such redraw "performance"
makes the desktop feel way more sluggish than ... well, I'll stop
before I write down some insulting comparison. Since the choice of
theme affects this, there might be something to do to fix that
behaviour. Though I am puzzled: How can you make something like simple
white text on black ... slow? Especially compared to the other themes?

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 739628] Re: STUDIO could do with an Ethernet OK ICON and the System should check "Ethernet OK", more often.

2019-03-06 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Pretty sure this is a thing when an icon gets pugged-in. Part of Xfce's
NetworkManager applet.

Title:
STUDIO could do with an Ethernet OK ICON and the System should check
  "Ethernet OK", more often.

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
As per the title, STUDIO seems oblivious to Ethernet/Network going down or
being
  unplugged - - -

  With the Ethernet/Network RJ-45 unplugged :

  1) The Updater will claim to have checked successfully for updates.

  2) Firefox will wait until timeout, with out advising that there is no Network
  connection.

Suggest an ICON showing Network status. Then the system can refer
tot this ICON module in its activities and be more clever about
  interpreting the outside world.

Maybe this is a Ubuntu thing ??

  Thanks - Ken

Title:
Massive Installation Anomaly that circumvents RealTime Installation
  for the unaware.

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:

The installation for 10/.04 and 10.10 operates well - except for one Massive
Anomaly
that has trapped me both times, causing me to have to start the reinstall.

During install we arrive at an Input Screen which enquires as to which
services we
  need - Audio ? Video ? etc.

This screen is very poorly explained and the explanation that does exist
leads the installer astray very easily.
IT'S SO HAIRTRIGGER that it flies on into the remainder of the installation
without any RealTime
software being actually selected - which is very sad seeing how Studio is
tipped as the
mother of all RealTime beasts - - -

In 10.04 I had to start the installation again. In 10.10, (on a different
machine) I will try to get
the Audio system running post a basic install - not much luck so far.

  SOLUTIONS TO THE ISSUES

Problem 1 - Poor command annunciation. The arrow keys have to be used - they
are not mentioned in the text Menu, down on the bottom line. Unless the
arrows
are used properly, then few options get ticked - - -

1B - It's not clear which keys do what. Suggest that the "Continue" command
be a
Function Key, so that it's difficult to go forward until completely finished
with
  choosing choices.

Problem 2 - No "Are you Sure?" Input Screen. This can save the day, if
  present.

Problem 3 - No chance to go back to correct mistakes. The "R U sure?" box
should allow a return to the options so they can be modified before
  proceeding.

  Thanks
  Ken

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 741542] Re: Suspend in U/S 10.10 cancels Audio system operation.

Title:
Suspend in U/S 10.10 cancels Audio system operation.

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:

I have found that upon a timed system Suspend (as set in Power Management),
the working
of the U/S sound system is interrupted and altered in its operation, or
frozen, by the time
I reactivate the computer from Suspend mode.

Everytime Suspend occurs I have to restart the machine after Suspend to get
anything to work,
  with regard Audio processing.

  *   *

The critical Debug question concerning this issue is :

How does a ReaL-Time system like U/S allow a destructive Suspend to
happen, when a critical process (Audio Processing) is under way,
without accurately saving everything that's required to achieve a
stable Restart, before Suspend is allowed to occur??

  SUGGESTION

The current, in progress rewrite of Ubuntu Studio Controls could perhaps
include a
setup system for Suspend mode. The resulting core set of variables could be
the
basis for a system wide, access of Global system-control variables - this
improvement
may pave the way for coherency across the modules - and therefore far better
system
  coherency and stability.

This setup could provide for a seamless Suspend mode and recovery from
Suspend, to the exact
prior setup before the Suspend occurred.

  Thanks
  Ken Gibbs

Title:
U/Studio "Forget Settings" Bug, PLUS "Multiple Sound Setting Records"
  Bug

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  1) "Forget Settings" BUGS

In my new installation of U/Studio 10.10, I notice that the mixers cannot
remember all of their settings during reboot - and what they do recall
  seems to vary.

For example QAMixer will not remember that I am using a Dell
soundcard, etc etc, from boot to boot.

Also when one of the various systems interruptions occurs (see my
other Bug Reports), the sound settings will revert to some earlier version,
(even though no SAVE settings command is present or adhered too,
to give me the OPtion to Save ANY settings, definitely.

It seems to record some settings and not others - - -

And sometimes in QAMixer, when varying teh 3-D control,
this will lock up the whole QAMixer App - - -

  *

  2) "Multiple Sound Setting Records" Bug

This is a set of related Bugs, to 1) above.

Throughout the system there are settings. Few of these will
talk to one another. For example, If I use two mixers they will
not track each other as I move teh sliders in one.

Another example - If I allocate a Hotkey for Volume control, this control
works,
but does not manipulate the settings in any mixer window,
that I have found so far.

Suddenly I find later that settings seem to be getting set randomly, NOT
  definitely.

  This is frustrating.

  SUGGESTION

Suggestion is that Studio Controls has extra lines in it which can specify
some settings repository
as Master, for the numerous system variables, e.g. MASTER volume control,
etc, etc. Then the
various Apps, including the likes of various mixers, could then be programmed
to refer to common Variables
stored IN ONE PLACE somewhere, so that the whole system is actually coherent.

  Thanks
  Ken

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 740721] Re: Apparent Altercations between Audio Programs cause Freezes / Non-Operation of Programs

2019-03-06 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Ubuntu Studio Controls has been rewritten a couple times since this bug
was filed. Also, this seems like a general complaint more than calling-
out a specific package.

Title:
Apparent Altercations between Audio Programs cause Freezes / Non-
  Operation of Programs

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Invalid

Bug description:
It seems that not all packages are compatible. Some will run when certain
others
aren't loaded - when they have no competition - and won't run when another
program
  takes the resources..

It seems that to open one set of programs / mixers etc etc can
  preclude the opening of others.

Example is that in one of my Ubuntu studio machines, Ardour / Rezound
loads just fine, On the my other one it says Jack is unavailable. And
that's straight after boot, from both machines. (The one that fails
has a Dell soundcard that I supported and recognized by the system).

Another example is that Audacity will load but can't move it's cursor to play
a file loaded,
but in the good machine it works just fine - same file. (Cursor keeps
returning to Zero after
play is requested - it moves then jumps back to Zero).

  SUGGESTION

As per another of my Bug Reports, suggest that the Ubuntu Studio
Controls rewrite that is occurring at the moment also include
troubleshooting tools and cross-checking features to help Newbies
(like myself) to come to grips with the system, without spending days
  to get a basic result.

This issue seems to depend on how buggy the system is. Therefore the
troubleshooting tools should also cross check the system itself, to
see if it's OK to run the Realtime Audio applications, as requested by
the User / Engineer / Muso. The tools should say what's driving what
and what's needed because of that and then reveal any bottlenecks
  before they happen.

I encountered similar behavior under a lowlatency kernel on 10.04

problem exists under the Linux 3.x low latency kernel.

  Problem:

My audio-interfere works as an input only every now and then.
My audio interface appears on jack as an input as well as an output device.
The problem is that still if I choose it, it has no effect on input-route. Jack
will still use my laptops iternal microphone, not the usb-input what it should
to.
I have restored settings and reinstalled qjackqtl. Still, by no reason
sometimes the interfere works and sometimes it wont. Generally it wont.
11.10 had no problems with this.

  Mounting Audio CD's stopped working.
Filemanager says: "Location is not Mountable"
mount in terminal says: "mount: can't find /dev/sg1 in /etc/fstab or

ISO data disc will mount without problems, and VLC can read the audio
CD seamlessly. Hence this is not a very big issue.

But Movie Player (totem) will not play them anymore ("location is not
mountable" msg here too), and since VLC dosen't come with ubuntustudio
by default, it is a bit confusing.

edit: couldn't find where to enter the version: 12.04

After booting from DVD installer, the usual debian live screen is

ask to install, live session, memory test or recovery session. Waiting

boot device with boot strap on the root of my drive containing ubuntu
with a 200Gb partition for the os and a 50Gb swap space partition on
  the same drive Ext4 filesystem

I'm actually brand new to the tux family and I'm not sure what kind of
info you need so I included the info on my setup that I feel to be
pertinent to this issue. I assume it's an issue in the build and not
firefox since I previously had 13.10 (saucy) installed and didn't have
  this issue.

The issue I'm having is upon clicking open containing folder, in the
firefox download manager, it opens audacious instead of the folder
containing said file. This happens regardless of if I'm in the drop
down menu for downloads or if I'm in the full downloads library in
firefox, I can still navigate to the containing folder manually but
  the issue hinders workflow.

If any more info is needed please contact me and I will be happy to provide
contextual
  info on this issue.

-Edit: This issue happens with any type of file, not just sound formats. I
did test this to be sure-
-also occured on the live disk before I installed-
  -downloaded my iso from-
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/trusty/beta-2/

-update: As of April 02 2014 this no longer opens audacious- I assume
an update has fixed it partially as i can open containing folder from
the full download section- but now the drop down menu in firefox is no
longer showing up at all and i have to click from the firefox menu to
  open the full downloads section-

Title:
  Wine fonts critical bug!

Status in Ubuntu Studio:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Hello!

After you install FL Studio can not find the fonts in the program.

Copy/link the files from your system font directory
  (/usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts) to drive_c/windows/fonts in
  your Wine folder!

  Thank you very much!
