Hi guys,
I was just wondering what bootable CD people are using with some of the
new Dells - in particular the new Optiplex 745s. I've tried Mario Gzuk's
mm/gentoo-based CD, which works well for the 745, but seems to break for
some of the other models (specifically the GX20 and D620 - on both i

Hi all,
I'm using the latest downloadable linux bootable CD (from here:

which I finally got working this morning (thanks Nils). However, when
booting a Dell Latitude D620 from this CD, it gets down past "Starting

I was actually trying to do the same thing yesterday. I came up with the
solution inline below, although I'm not sure if it'll work for you. It
essentially checks the computer's IP address, and decides which
unattended.txt file to use based on that.
You could probably modify it to ask for a langu
Hi,
I was wondering if you could help with a problem I'm having with

off them and install XP Pro SP2 instead. Out Unattended installation has

Hi,
I've been trying to sync with the Unattended GUI SVN repository

Hi,
I'm trying to set up the unattended-gui web content, but currently
getting stuck on step 4 - configuring the database.
I have followed the instructions and done the following:
* Installed PEAR components: Auth, HTML_Template_Sigma, DB
* Removed the require_once line
play, and "Display errors = On" set in
php.ini, but I am not seeing any errors on the install.php page - it just dumps
me back to the database configuration page.
Any other ideas? :|
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Mario,
There seems to be a bug in the 0.5.1 image that you released last night,
which wasn't in the 0.5.0 version.
I modify your ISO image to include four "APPEND" strings in the boot
string:

Hi,
We've recently tried to switch from using regular unattended to

Hi,
I'm playing around with the unattended-gui webserver stuff. I've got it

Anyone got any ideas? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here...

Hi Sebastian,
In the end I followed the instructions in those links, and used the
TXTSETUP.SIF method, which worked a treat.
Thanks for your help!

If Mario would be happy to host, then it would probably be the most

isn't in UHCI mode. But worth checking that you're disabling the Flash

A nicer way of fixing this problem (I remember now - I fixed a similar
problem with our Dell systems), is to extract the uaroot file onto a

Hi,
Has anyone successfully managed to get AD authentication working on

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hi guys,
Has anyone tried using unattended on a Dell OptiPlex GX755 with RAID
(mirroring)? My colleague has just tried to install a PC this way, and
the following seems to happen:
* The unattended kernel boots, and recognises sda and sdb (not a
mapper device, i.e. the RAID volume)
If you don't mind doing that, I would be more than happy to test it for you :)
Thanks very much!
Merry Christmas all!

This behaviour could also just be a result of using a virtual PC; this could
just be a performance issue. If you're using 'full' virtualization (e.g. VMware
server), there will always be some problems with timing and performance. If you
can switch to hardware virtualization (e.g. XenServer or Xe

In my opinion, unattended-gui is better, because you can effectively get
a zero-touch installation environment. You configure each machine
through a web interface prior to turning it on, and then either PXE boot
or CD boot, and everything else is done automatically.

It depends why you're copying the drivers in the first place. At my
company, we copy them in this way because Windows is also aware of this
folder when it is copied over, so if it finds any new pieces of hardware
(e.g. network card) that have drivers in the $1 folder (or subfolders),
it can install
You just need to name the different OS folders differently, e.g.
win2k3std and win2k3ent - unattended will poll each folder and figure
out which version is inside...
